Hello again--
I was just looking over the first three days of food that I have eaten and I am a little concerned that I am not eating enough. When I eat a protein (chicken or sirloin for dinner) I eat a 4.0 oz portion. I am trying to eat a good amount of everything else, but still am afraid I am eating too little (If it was always that easy, I wouldn't need this program! emoticon )

I don't want the low range of calories to hinder my weight-loss. Any suggestions? Where should I add food? Should I just stick with it for the remainder of the Phase 1, or should I fix it somehow?

Thanks all!
Jenn

Phase 1 is going well. Today is Day 3. It is going well. I hope that it continues this way as I work through Phase 1. Starting to miss some of the things I had last week, but I am pushing through.

Hope everyone has a good rest of the week. It is all DOWN HILL from here! emoticon emoticon

Hi all, I thought I was subscribed to this board but somehow must have gotten unsubscribed. Glad everyone is doing so well. Wow! some great stories. I'm on Phase II now and have been doing pretty good. I lost 4 lbs on Phase I and was happy with that because I really was doing 1.25. This way of eating is becoming the norm for me and I'm trying to stay within my calorie range, too. Don't get discouraged because you are going down even if you think it's not that much. It will come off little by little and for me the cravings have gotten better. I think any loss is a good thing. Keep on South Beachin' emoticon

Hi All!

Tomorrow begins my 2nd week of Phase 1. I had a real hard time the first week...I had a lot of the "flu-like" symptoms. I would get very lightheaded, had a dull headache most days, and just felt "off". I lost 3.5lbs and while I am happy I am also a little disappointed b/c I think that it was the 3lbs I typically gain when its that time of the month...so in reality I think I only lost .5lbs. Its disheartening but I am not giving up.
I had a slip up yesterday...I took my little guy to a birthday party where all they had to eat was chicken nuggets. I wound up having a few b/c I knew that if I didn't eat I was going to pass out. I had to work in the morning so I didn't really get to prep myself for the day. Then DH and I went out for dinner for our anniversary...we had sushi and sashimi which helped both of us stay in range (Hubby is doing SB too...stinker lost 7lbs!) for the most part. We did go for some gelato but rather than having the large I would have had, I had a small. I figured our anniversary comes around once a year and we don't get to go out very often. Today I was right back on track. We went out for dinner with my parents for my mom's anniversary and I easily pushed away the bread basket and went for the grilled chicken and steamed veggies. I was very proud of myself!!!!
Its all little steps to a greater improvement in me!
Hope everyone has a good week!!!

BOBELLY thanks so much. I know it is frustrating sometimes. I put on pants yesterday that havent fit me since before I got pregnant and they are even a little loose! It made me feel so good. I guess I am not sure where all this weight is if I can fit back into those pants :)

Hey guys,

Tomorrow will be week 2 of Phase 1. It seems to be going ok. I don't think I've lost a lot on the scale, however. It probably would help if I didn't weigh myself every time I go to the bathroom. emoticon

Also, I only worked out once this past week. I just quit smoking, so I didn't want to take on too much. I am going to start back on Monday, though. Perhaps that will help with the numbers on the scale.

Going to the grocery store this morning to get food for next week. Can't wait for phase 1.5 (gotta figure out how that works exactly.)

LINDSEA11 I wouldn't worry too much. I am a pear shape also and I am at day 12 of Phase I and have only lost 4 lbs. Disappointed yes I am also, but I have also been exercising as well same as you but not even as much I am doing 20-30 min in the morning of TMT and then walking 52 flights of stairs at lunch 4 days a week. (this week only twice). Anyway my point in this is I have been measuring inches as well as weight and I am down 5 3/4 inches as of last night. So that makes me happy and gives me some hope. I see more value in inches lost than weight lost numbers. Try doing that, Keep track in a little note book with the dates in your room. I measure usually every 1-2 weeks. Maybe you'll get more motivation out of that.

I hope that helps. Stick with it. I am going to try to stick with it as well. :)

Well my weight loss has definitely slowed down. At the beginning of the week, I reported a 7.5 weight loss. Today it said 7.9. Oh well, at least is is still going down, but it was fun to lose so much so quickly.

I have a question. Do you have good ideas for traveling meals? We will be on the road for 4 days, traveling to our daughter's place then on to our son's. Just a quick trip, but long distances. 12 hours to my daughter's then another 3 to our son's. We will attempt the full 15-16 hour trip on the way home ( knowing my husband) I just hope this doesn't derail all our good efforts.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all I ask or imagine according to the power that is within me.

Thanks Kierae, I plan on introducing just oatmeal for a few days and then moving to fruit for one of my snacks.

Phase 1 is primarily water weight loss that first week and then most people settle into a normal weight loss pattern. Average weight loss in p1 is 10% of weight loss goal. This is skewed by variables: how we ate prior to starting, were we dieting prior (ie lost a portion of water loss prior), level of exercise, etc....the closer to your goal, the slower it is. Breathe - you are still within a good weekly average!

I am having mixed emotions. I am on Day 12 of Phase 1, having been strictly following the diet as well as doing 60 minutes of power yoga 10 of the last 12 days. I am only down 4 pounds. I mean it is a good thing to be down but i just hear everyone else saying they have lost so much in just 1 week. I am a pear shaped person to begin with. Would this have anything to do with the fact that I am not losing as much weight as everyone else?

Cate,

The vegges stay the same. Basically what changes is that you can cut back from the 3 snacks (which was mandatory in p1) to 2 snacks (and if you want/need the 3rd you can). What you will find is when you do add in a serving of grains and/or fruit, is your calorie count will increase. This shouldn't be an issue considering the majority of folks on phase 1 are normally hugging the lower end of their calorie range anyways. We really should be working the entire range (cycling).

When you do decide to do phase 1.5/2, add only ONE serving of either a fruit OR the grain..not both. If you add both at the same time and you trigger, you won't know what did it.

Hey all! I just finished week 1 of phase 1 and am down 5.8 pounds! I am thinking about moving to phase 1.5...I would love some fruit in the mornings or a slice of whole grain bread w/ my peanut butter. I may try this for a few days and see if any cravings return or if I stop losing weight.

I have only 2 more days on Phase 1. Have not checked weight for this week, not until Friday. (Lost 7.5 pounds on first week) For the most part I am feeling good. I have noticed that getting through my aerobic classes has been a little more challenging. I get tired and have to push through the last 10 minutes or so. I don't know if this is a lack of carbs, or just me being lazy. Anyway, I look forward to reintroducing my morning oatmeal on Friday. Do I keep the rest of my food intake like I am doing now? In the book it looks like the quantities are cut back as you introduce fruits and whole grains.

Welcome Kelly! You are correct - you should never be hungry! Congrats on the weight loss so far and adapting it to what you need. You honestly shouldn't be losing muscle as long as you are taking in enough calories to cover the metabolism and workouts. Doing the strength training will help build muscle which in turn means you will be burning more off.

Regardings phase 1.5/transitioning out of phase 1 - the key is to go slow. Occasionally people stall a bit or slightly increase (I think I went up a pound or two but it was very temporary) but then settle into a "normal" weight loss pattern.

Hello All,

I am new to SB. Before I started, I was really trying to cut out processed foods from my diet so I was eating a lot of veggies and meats and trying to make as much as possible from scratch. Hubby and I did eat out but even then I was making pretty good choices. I had lost 20 pounds before starting SB.

Today is day 9 and I'm down almost 5 pounds. I have only been eating the recommended foods but I have been eating a little bit more nuts and dairy than suggested. I feel like I need these to make sure I don't get headaches. I have chronic migraines and I'm not willing to make myself more sick so I am just listening to my body. So far it seems to be working.

I'm really concerned about losing muscle and water and not losing fat. I have been pretty thirsty lately and I've been drinking and drinking and drinking my water! Another reason I've been eating my nuts and proteins is because I'm working out 30-100 mins a day. I'm trying to do equal strength training and cardio. None of it is extremely high intensity.

I am also getting worried about moving to phase 1.5 - I'm wondering if I should expect to gain weight back? I have to do more research on it this week.

I really don't understand how people are saying they are hungry on SB. If they are, I think they are doing it wrong! I have made so much food and really interesting food. Even my hubby who isn't trying to lose weight and not on the diet really likes the food. One of his favourite was the cauliflower pizza crust!

Kelley

Just dropping by to say hello and share some good news with anyone just starting out and maybe struggling a bit through those first days. I'm on Day 6 of phase 1. My cravings are gone (yay!), and I have much more energy than I did on days 1-3. When I stepped on the scale this morning, I was down 5 pounds!

Basically the phase 1 list shows sugar free jams and jellies on the sweet allowance. The fact is that any jam or jelly that is sugar free really does have minimal fruit/juice in it which is why it fits the bill. Whereas the All Fruit is all fruit and does not fit the criteria. The latter has the fruit listed first in the ingredient list versus the sf styles which has water.

would that also include jelly made with fruit juice, not splenda, like Palanor's All Fruit?

Sorry was unsubscribed - if it is sugar free jelly, yes it is allowed on phase 1 and counts toward your sweet calories.

Welcome MYLIFESONG!

I am on day 5 of phase 1. I have not been completely perfect - had a few raspberries the other day and a couple of ryvita crackers after a tough work-out, but I'm okay with that. If I'm going to cheat, I'll make healthy choices!

I hope you're all having a successful time this weekend...those are the worst for me!

I wanted to start phase 1 two days ago but didn't have a meal plan step up...BIG mistake. Yesterday I finally got it together, researched some recipes, have a plan set up and went grocery shopping. I'm ready now. WELCOME phase 1!!!

Yep! I'm encouraged! Thanks for posting, ladies. Day 5, I'm still alive, and starting to thrive! My daughter is coming home from college for Spring Break. I just hope I don't let our celebrations trip me up. She is one of the reasons I hope to get in shape-to stay healthy for all those unborn grandbabies. I will be a rockin' cool granny if only those kids of mine will let me. haha

We are supposed to have a Nintendo Wii party this afternoon to celebrate her return with some young men (hmmmm). I think I will just whip up some rice krispie bars and take a nice long walk. Yep. That'll do.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all I ask or imagine according to the power that is within me.

Day 5 for me now, I am feeling better, thank goodness, Day 3 was the worst I felt awful all day long. Day 4 was on and off.
I stepped on the scale this monring and was down 4 lbs...I was shocked and also assum it's water wieght, because my inches are not down at all. But I'll take it seeing that # go down is motivating for sure.
This wekend I am going to try to make some meals for the week as I don't have alot of time in the evenings during the week. and I also need to get some sugar free jello to try. After dinner last night I was needing something a bit sweet, I had snap peas wich actaully helped.
I am however not looking forward to the weekend, I think this is going to be the hardest time for me. My routine gets messed up from my work week and I expect I will struggle. I am going to stay strong! (I hope)

Well, this is really wierd...I was disappointed with my results in phase 1 (my own fault, I wasn't tracking, and was probably not eating enough veggies), but realized that after three weeks, I would start cheating more than sticking to it...so went on to phase 1.5...and the pounds are moving! In this past week, I've lost 2.5 lbs!

Wow CATE195! That is awesome! I am on Day 8 and could only hope for that much loss! I do see a remarkable difference in my stomach though. My love handles are disappearing and my ab muscles are starting to be visible again. I wish I had a scale at home so I could see some numbers. Keep it up, let us know how much you lose in the 2nd week! So motivating!

Wow, way to go CATE195! That is really inspiring. I'm on day 3 of phase 1 today. I weigh in on Fridays for my weekend challenge team and I am down about 2.5 from day 1. I'm sure it's all water weight, but it's so motivating to see a change!

Just weighed in after completing my 1st week on Phase 1, I lost 7 1/2 pounds!!! Wow, that's more than I expected. I really stuck to the diet with one slip on Wed PM, after a hard day at work I went out to eat with my hubby. I had baked cod with no butter or bread crumbs, a double serving of green beans and a salad with dressing on the side (I used the dip the fork method), so far so good, BUT I really was hankering for a glass of wine, so I went with it. I felt so bad the next morning that I think I will stay away from the wine until it's legal again.

Yes, thanks BacktoTen! My fat calories have been from healthy sources - low-fat dairy, lean protein and nuts, so I guess it's not a terrible thing that those counts are high. I will add some non-fat greek yogurt. Lots of protein!

I tried to eat cottage cheese and when i made eggs, I'd use 1 egg and 1/4 cup of egg whites. I was always a bit high on the fat part, too, but it seems to work. I ate nuts and greek yogurt with a touch of stevia. The fats were usually from nuts so they were mostly monosaturated and they're good for you. I tried to eat some beans, too. Salad dressings are high fat. I used olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Hang in there. The fat will be more balanced in Phase II

Oooooh! I want to know about the sugar free pudding too! I am on Day 7 or is it 8? I can't remember but I still want chocolate and the ricotta desserts make me gag for some reason. I can't handle the texture or something. All I have been having is jello, which is ok i guess.

Welcome KIKI! Yes I have noticed that too. Head scratch. Hopefully, our leaders will offer suggestions.

I just had the Asparagus Mushroom Omelet. Bleah! Nasty stuff. NOT a do again!

I am on day 4. No problems so far. Just another question, though. Are we allowed to have sugar free pudding? My husband made some last night. OOoooo the temptation!

Hi everyone! I just started Phase 1 yesterday and found this group for some added support. I have tried SB in the past but usually bail after a few days. But my doctor has recommended a low carb diet so here I am!

So far I am feeling pretty good, but I find it difficult to keep my calories up without overloading on fat grams. Anyone else have this issue?

ALOVEBEAM: I sent you a email about the Chock Full of Veggies Chili. I hope it helps. I get so confused on this site. I find something marvelous then try to navigate back to it, but *poof* it is gone! Haha. I found some yummy recipes right here on this spark team.

Pork Loin tonight! Any great ways to prepare this? I am open. The book suggestion is Ginger-Dijon Glazed Pork Tenderloin. It calls for fresh ginger. I don't have any, can I use ground instead?

I felt really tired Day2 and 3 and someone suggested adding in 1/2c beans and make sure I got my milk in also. It really helped and I am feeling great now.

I am on Day 3 of Phase 1 and I feel awful. My stomach is very upset and I have no energy. Is this normal?

Day 1 and 2 were ok, even though I had a hard time last night figuring out a sause for my stirfry, with no soy sause it was difficult. :(

I had made the cilantro lime mayonnaise already and tried simmering 1/2C of garbanzo beans with diced tomatoes and added in 1-2T of the mayonnaise. It was actually really good and helped me get my beans in. Also very filling. I also occasionally eat the Plantars Nutrition SB blend, celery with ff cream cheese, and cheese sticks. I am on Day 6 and it seems to be alot easier and I am needing less food now than when I started. It is actually getting hard to meet my daily calories unless I watch it closely. Can't wait to weigh in and hope I lost a couple pounds!
