Not sure how much I will get entered on my food tracker today. It isn't going to be terribly pretty since I am making biscuits for dinner.

Boy, thought I would be able to get back on here sooner than this, but it's been a whirlwind since getting back.

I'm planning a return to routine starting tomorrow, so I'm very hopeful you'll be seeing me regularly. Till tomorrow....

Dinalynn3--I figure that you're in your 50th year, right? Close enough...you can be the baby of the family! How 'bout that?

I've spent the day making some homemade dinner rolls for the church dinner tomorrow. They're in their last rising right now, so I'm not being tempted by the aroma of fresh bread baking...yet~ Maybe I can just get them done and go to bed~

Yes, I'm double posting here!

Just wanted to say my workout last night at the gym worked wonders! I lost a half pound which I will gladly take since I didn't eat very good this week!

Make it a great weekend!

I picked at my son's Thai food for lunch. I'm still hungry because I stopped after a very small amount. I haven't done my tracking yet, so I will have to see what I have left to eat.

Hi all..happy Friday!

I work out tonight at the gym and I have my work cut out for me! Have to not only work off the chicken chow mein I had for dinner last night (ate wayyy too much of it) but also the big mac I had for lunch today! (sigh) Haven't had one of those in years and it was just so good!
So I have to work a bit harder to get it off and since I weigh myself on Saturday morning I really need to work hard!

Have a great weekend!

It is a fuss but I started Sparks a long time ago and then fell off the planet - the diet planet that is. Anyway, I am back and I am really making a commitment to do this right this time and part of that is to use all the features available to me on this site.

A big piece of the puzzle for me is accountability. I need daily check-in on my progress or lack of it - to help me get where I want to be. Unfortunately, I am just that weak. Anyway I am hoping this will help with that.

It took me about 8 months to do anything with my Spark page! I'm just not that into it, I guess. I can't figure out how to upload any pictures and just don't want to spend that much time with it. I really like too many other Spark features to fuss with one that frustrates me.

I am thinking about doing that web page but I need a title for myself. Any suggestions?

I have officially started (again - sigh) on November 8th. I am doing my food journal honestly and completely which has become number one for me - even when I have missteps. I am drinking my water and most days getting my 50 minute (3 miles) walks in. My official weigh in day is on Sundays but unofficially I am down 3.2lbs. Yeah! The biggest change is in my attitude - mainly that I am doing this for a life time.

Anyway that's why I joined this board. I belong to another board but I think I need that daily accountability to keep me honest.

Anywho....

That's good news, Terri.

And I know that I need to increase the amount of stretching I do now, just because it is such a problem for me. I am very flexible in some ways, not so much in others. I never thought that I would be a work in progress at my age!

Yes, that age thing sucks Barb~ But are you noticing any more flexibility at all? You should, if you're stretching faithfully.

Welcome to the team ADA! Yes, this is the place to jump in. I always try to catch the intros for new people and welcome them there, but I don't always get to it before it drops below my line o' sight-- I'll bet it's starting to get pretty cold in WA by now, right? My brother is in Seattle.

Well, the blisters on my foot turned out to be an allergic reaction to something...probably the adhesive in the steri-strips. I'm not sure why it took ten days to erupt, but I'm sure glad it did! That would've been extra miserable to have to deal with! I just finished a vinegar/water foot bath to help dry them up and keep it germ-free. The stitches are gone, so it's just a matter of letting the blisters run their course and new skin to grow. I'm very relieved, as I was having images of some kind of staph infection or something!

Ada, just jump in!

Terri, I am sorry about your foot. Those blisters sound uncomfortable.

I am feeling pretty good about getting back on track with food after my several day Milky Way excursion! They're gone so no more temptation, but it didn't seem to have done any long term damage, since I have been exercising all along.

I have a real problem with hamstrings and glutes. It frustrates the heck out of me that my legs feel fabulous when I leave the gym, after i do my exercises and the stretching, and then I'm stiff again a few hours later! Ah, age catches us, doesn't it?

Thanks for the welcomes!! How do I put a graph of my weight loss on here like the rest of you? Im so dumb about this stuff, lol. Today is my second day of getting back on track with eating. I am so ridiculously busy, I am still working on the exercise. I have to take control of my life and reduce the busyness, it hinders my attempts at getting healthier! Have a great day everyone.

Hi everyone! Welcome FUZZ55! I look forward to getting to know you.

I've had a strange couple of days...I've been doing SO well with my foot since the surgery 2 weeks ago and was ready for tomorrow's final post-op and stitch removal. But yesterday I developed some really strange blisters on the top of my foot! It was hurting as though the bandage was rubbing and when I took the sock off and looked, I could see a reall big blister. DH cut the bandage off for me so we could see what was happening, and the whole incision area is covered with blisters! I even have them between my toes. I called the Dr. but he was working in his out-of-town office and was completely booked for the day, but he got all the information and told me to elevate it and ice it. He said it didn't sound like an infection, but might be an allergic reaction to something. I'll find out in the morning, but it's really a set back. There's no way I'll be able to even get the surgical shoe on w/out rupturing a dozen large blisters, so I guess I'll be using crutches to keep the foot out of the rain puddles.

Finally!! We're back home in Fl, getting settled in and restocking the pantry. I've really missed not being on Sparks, so I'm happy that I found some time to sit and at least post on my teams. I'll have to go back and try to enter the past few days food and exercise, not that there's been that much exercise! Anyway, you'll see me here regularly from now on. Hooray!! I've missed all of you!

We are going out for Thanksgiving this year as it is only my hubby, daughter, & myself. Son/DIL will be with her parents. They will come on Friday after. We will put up our tree (fake) that day and the grandkids get to do the decorating!! We bake cookies and the girls and I have a "tea party".

I never get a tree up that early. The ones we get here would be totally dried up by Christmas. One benefit of living in a more rural area, I guess!

I have a big range AND a wood cookstove in my kitchen; thus two large ovens--and I still have a hard time getting things out (and hot) at the same time. The wood cookstove doesn't get as hot, so we use it to keep things warm and toss paper bags full of dinner rolls in there to keep warm. I can put things on top of it, too.

Does anyone else go out for the Christmas tree on Black Friday? We're too far away from town to bother with the mall and all those ridiculous crowds, so we've started using that day to get the tree. Then we can get it up over the weekend and enjoy it longer. I like to take it down just after New Year's Day. Once we have all the lights up on the house and the inside decorated, DH likes to have the grands spend the night (in small groups as we have 13!). I don't know why it's so special, but it is. I have my little village set up with the people and trees and the little ones are pretty good about not touching it. One of these days, DH wants to set up his old Lionel train to go through my village. The kids would LOVE that! So would HE! LOL

I get very excited about cooking Thanksgiving dinner every year. It's my favorite. I only have one oven which is not huge, so everything really has to be orchestrated to come out at the right time. I used to call the Butterball hotline every year, too, but years ago I realized that I knew how to do the turkey so I had to give it up!

Hi all! Can't believe that Thanksgiving is almost here! It's been sunny and warm here in Cleveland and I was out doing yard work, cleaning up leaves and digging up flower beds this afternoon! Definitely got my cardio in with the digging!

Lost a pound this week..and since I've just come back to spark this past week, I'd say I did pretty good the first week out!

Hit the gym a couple times too along with walking after work! Hoping this weather holds out for another week or so, so I can cut my lawn once more! Never thought I'd say I was cutting grass in November!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Terri, sounds like quite a day. You're lucky!

It's a little chilly and I have a relaxing day ahead of me. Yesterday was terrible because I got very little sleep on Thursday night but I feel a lot better today.

I made lasagna for my son and his guest last night. I had been kind of bad on food all day (I'm blaming it on the lack of sleep), but I was good with dinner.

I have never used a crockpot, but I never would go out and leave something running like that. And if I am going to be home cooking anyway, I might as well use the oven or the stovetop!

Had a granson for a couple of hours yesterdayd, so I called DS#2 and asked if his 3yo would like to come and play with his cousin. Turned into quite a play day, with more joining us later in the day. Come dinner time, they were asking to spend the night, so we called parents and three of them stayed over (first time alone for the 3yo). They're all still here and have gone out to play in the sunshine where the men are working on various projects.

I'm going to have to get something going for lunch for this big crowd!

I wish I'd have started something in my crockpot last night! What was I thinking? Oh yeah, I was tired and fell into bed after a day with the grands! LOL

I work and I'm single so I do a lot of crockpot cooking. I picked that up when I lived in Connecticut (I live in West Virginia now) and I made a lot of chowders and beef stews. It's nice to come in the door and dinner be mostly ready. I mostly stick with chicken or with a "turkey chili" (made with ground turkey). This helps me stick with my plan as I don't have to do a lot of thinking as to what I'm going to make when I come in the door, it's already done!! My George Foreman grill gets a lot of use as well as I can put any kind of meat on it and the fat goes in the pan as it is cooking whether it is a pork chop, steak, or ground chuck (and it does "knock out" the fat, my cholesterol has gone down a lot)!!
I also like to make vegetable soup in the crockpot as I use a lot of veggies (carrots, celery, green beans, cabbage, onion) with a low-sodium chicken broth and a lot of seasoning (Mrs. Dash or some italian seasoning). emoticon

I haven't stuck my nose out but the house is cold. I think I will have to turn on the heat again.

My son is entertaining a friend from out of town. He was so excited to be able to show him LA, but he was so enthusiastic that he already tired himself out! It's kind of funny.

Here in NE Indiana we have sun and it may push a high of mid 50s emoticon

My DH is home again as their job site is waiting for inspections, sooo he is entertaining the gkids outside. He tried to get Martin to stay inside. Martin will be 3 January 2nd and does not cling to grandpa and wanders off. But if big sis is going out so is he. DH does like to play with the kids but by evening (like me) he's worn out. This is the day they sleep over and I usually make them nap after lunch.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning from Crestview Florida. Its 56, sunny and gorgeous!

Just a quick hello as I want to get a few things done this morning and then get out of the house. Its to beautiful to be inside. I'm considering riding to Ft Walton Beach and taking a walk on the beach. Very seriously!

Doing better. I've lost 2-lbs. I'm not mentioning any how-to's for a while (it's healthy!). Just weight loss. Will say this, the comment(choc chip cookies) was the *ah-ha* moment I needed. Perhaps it was not intended to be the way I took it, but it was the motivation I needed.

BTW, ladies,I told my mom I would bake some chocolate chip cookies for the girl that made the comment and make sure they are nice and black on the bottom.

PAT:
I haven't read my mail here yet. I went by there earlier and SP locked up. I got mad and closed out. Then decided I'd at least post here if I could. *smile* I'll get to my mail later. Thank you in advance.

BARB:
My son watches those shows all the time. He has told me some horror stories about when the chef is on the rampage. Nothing makes him happy and therefore everyone else pays. But still Josh loves the job. Because, at times, the chef is extremely happy.

My DH works late tonight so I will "try" to get back later. I don't want to lose anymore of this day.

Have a great Friday!

I've bought a few things for Thanksgiving the last two weeks, so that I don't have to go nuts next week! My daughter and her husband are coming for a week, so I am getting things that they eat. My SIL likes canned green beans--it's what his mother makes--so I actually bought a can for him for THanksgiving dinner. I tried making him fresh green beans before and he just doesn't eat anything but the canned ones. I've always felt that they were just mushy. But everyone has their own taste!

A HUGE thank you to all the Veterans who've served their countries at home and/or abroad! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I had my first post-op with the podiatrist today to change the bandage and check my progress. The foot is still swollen and very bruised. He said he was amazed at how much bone had grown over the screws since my surgery in January. I should be safe from fractures (and will heal quickly in the event that I get one). So, one more week of babying it and then I should be good to go--even if it's SLOW going for a while. Thanks everyone for your prayers and concern~

Hey KAT, get outta your hole--Mrs. Fields is a fox! Have you ever seen her? Man, I wouldn't look like that if I spent that much time in the kitchen! Not unless I was lifting a cast iron skillet in each hand the whole time~

How do you "look" as though you are a good baker? That's just stupid, Kat, don't stress it. And no cookies for that one....

Did your son get any formal culinary training? Just curious. From watching the shows on tv like Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen, all romanticism about working in a restaurant has flown! I love to cook, but every time I think that might be interesting to do, I remember those shows and cringe!

Hey there.

Just a quick note this morning. I've been fighting the funk the last couple of days. Stepping on the scale this morning sure didn't help. I'm up 5-lbs. *sigh* This mood started when my DH came home and told me one of the girls at his job said I should bake them some chocolate chip cookies. He asked her why. And her reply was, "Because she looks like she would be good at it". What the heck is that suppose to mean!? I mean, how would you take that statement? My husband told me she didn't mean it the way I was taking it. OK, really? When I look at the Pillsbury dough boy, I think he would be a great baker! ?Correct? Anyway, that started the funk.

PAT:
We had a fantastic time at the restaurant my son works at on Sunday. It was wonderful watching him in action. He loves his job so much. I was so proud of him. And his Grandmother and I both teared up as we talked about how his life has changed in the last 2 years. He truly is answered prayers.

I'll be back as soon as I drag myself up and out of this quick sand.

When my son lived in an apartment at college, he did some cooking for himself. I would get calls from him at dinnertime! I thought when he came home, he would cook sometimes, but he prefers to eat Mom's cooking. He'll cook for himself when he moves out again. My daughter never had a lot of interest in learning to cook. I did teach her to make spaghetti sauce and she used to make perfect omelets, but she hasn't done anything in so long, she's forgotten. Her husband likes to cook, and is kind of anal about "his" kitchen. She is perfectly happy to stay out and let him do it.

I taught all my kids to cook from an early age. I always figured that was my job--to work myself out of a job! If anyone went hungry in my house, it was their own fault! I also taught them to clean up their messes; however, that lesson seemed to need a lot more repeating than the cooking lessons... =/

My DH can only cook frozen pizza, bacon, or anything microwaveable. One time long ago he made me a Mother Days dinner. He and my sons got the cookbooks out and found one that showed all the course to go with one meal. Quite nice and a good effort on his part. My sons can cook some. I'm teaching my gkids to eat healthy. No candy from grandma or a lot of cookies. Fruits and veggies for snacks or cheese sticks.

We've got a lot of cooks in the family, but we all cook pretty plain, traditional foods. No gourmets here~ My DIL is from Central American, though, and she does some pretty fabulous stuff (exotic for us, traditional for her)

Kat, hope you all had a great time at the resturant. I'd love to have a cook in the family. No one but me cooks. My daughter lives alone and doesn't cook much. My son can and does now that he isn't working but he doesn't really enjoy it. Now me, I love to cook, bake, & eat!!!!

Hope you all have a nice day!!!
