You're right Bee. It's more about the need to put something in my mouth than the actual food.

New research agrees with weight loss as a byproduct of being in the program....

“Eating addiction”, rather than “food addiction”, better captures addictive-like eating behavior"
is in a November 2014 science journal.

We had a conference last week as well. It was marvelous! I was so very tired as it was all evening Friday, then from 8 am to 8pm Saturday, and I had had a super busy work week before, but it was soooo worth going to hear about people's recovery.

I, too, feel that the weight loss is a by product of being in program. As one of my home meeting member's says often, "I thought I had a weight problem, but I had a living problem."

Today I have to be out the door early for the conference. I enjoyed the short time I could be there yesterday afternoon. It was so inspiring to see these women get up and talk about what a difference OA had made in their lives. Some of them talked about 20 or 30 years of staying on their food plan. They had all lost significant amounts of weight, but the added benefits to their way of life was what they talked about. The weight loss was a byproduct of the change in their lives. I also met a woman who is in OA b/c she is anorexic and had to learn how to deal w/ her food obsessions.

Hi Kate!
Welcome to the Team!

One of the promises of the program is the ability to deal with life's ups and downs, without resorting to food.

Keep coming back. It works if you work it!

Hi,
Just jumping in. I just started attending local OA groups 2 weeks ago but I thought it would be good to have an online group as well. I've enjoyed the other SP groups I've been with for years.

Although the seeds of this disease were there through out my life, I only really went off the deep end after my mom died a bit over 2 years ago. All the bad habits that I'd managed to keep in check before that came out of the closet and took over my life. I've gained almost 50 pounds in that 2 years and learned that I can't really stop my cravings by myself even w/ medication and therapy.

I appreciated being reminded that there's joyful things that has nothing to do with food!
Quite honestly I am sitting here munching on a bunch of chocolate that I covertly brought into the house this morning. I already threw it in the garbage this morning, only to fish it out after lunch. The addict in me strikes again. I am looking forward to food sobriety.

Good for you! That is so important!

Tomorrow, I will probably have some me-time all afternoon and early evening. I will get my volunteer jobs done, do some house sorting, and then pamper myself a bit with a home pedicure and manicure.

Its good to find ways to even treat yourself without food. I always like to do it with a new bottle of nail polish or get my hair done with a deep conditioning at home. I am getting back into the swing of taking care of myself a little bit more especially on the weekends. Feel like a girl again!

Can you believe how fast the months have gone by? I love the fall colors and I genuinely enjoy the month of October. October doesn't have to be the SCARY month due to all the goodies that are passed out. In my life, I like to take the time to enjoy the beautiful colors on the trees, the cute gourds and plump pumpkins that adorn everyone's porches......and last, but not least, the children that are excited to dress up and get their goodies! There are so many HEALTHIER choices we can make even for the little ones in the month of October. Instead of candy, I like to give money or little coupons booklets to healthy places like Subway. I have been in the mode of trying to teach my little one exercise habits and good eating habits even though I stumble along the way. I am wishing everyone a Happy October!! Let Go and Let God
