I am still on Goodreads, but have not been reading as much as I would like to. I have no reading goals...., just whatever sounds good at the moment.

I probably spend too much time playing "games." :)

My husband and I have been playing bridge on bridge base online with different couples we know. We call each other and are able to talk for the 2 hours or so that we play.

Went out today for about an hour..... ran a bit, but still recovering a little from whatever I have had, so didn't want to overdo it.

Hi Jean, yes, I do. It's 90 books. That's lower than usual for me, but I'm having trouble concentrating on books these days. That surprised me a little.

But I am 2 books ahead. My reading has picked up since I stopped watching the news and limited my time online. I've been spending a lot of time in the garden, which I find very calming.

How about you? Are you still using Goodreads?

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Take care.

It's really HOT here in Austin. We're supposed to get a small break from the 90s, and some rain, over the weekend.

Almost afternoon in my world......

Beautiful day today in FL.....

Went out to "run around and play" today. I have not done much of anything (walk, bike easy) for a couple weeks. Today ran a very slow mile, walked a mile, ran another very slow mile.

The only lingering symptoms...... swollen glands still (even after antibiotic) and feeling like I have to cough...... chest is not perfect, but much better. So whatever I have had is nearly gone.

Reading a book called "Intuitive Eating" - about making peace with food, letting go of guilt from eating and letting go of dieting, and learning to trust your intuitive food choices. Not done yet. A lot of what is written makes sense... just tough to do in this predominately dieting world.

Have a great day!

Still no results...... called after 5 days and I guess the lab is so far behind.

Still not feeling well, tough to say what I have. May need a 2nd dose of antibiotics, but am waiting to get the results.

I have thought about buying one of those indoor gardens with lights etc.... not sure where I would put it plus wondering if it would attract insects inside the house, so never followed though.

Have not felt good this week so...

Called my doctor yesterday. We had a tele-office visit. He prescribed some antibiotics for me, but suggested I get tested. So I went to the state (drive-through) testing site nearby. Will not know results for 2-5 days. I think the antibiotics are doing the trick though.

So - not even going to the grocery store. :( at least until I get the results.

Yes, tomatoes are a challenge in warm climates since they need relatively cool night time temps to set fruit. Cherry tomatoes tend to handle it better, the warmer climate, but they've been hit or miss for me. Last year I had huge, healthy plants, but no fruit until fall. Then we we had an early freeze.
emoticon
This year I invested in grow lights and started plants early inside. That gave them a head start on growth once I planted them outside. Fortunately, although it has been hot during the day, nights are still staying at 70 or lower. I figure I have until the end of the month, then nothing more until fall.

My plants are all in containers and trough planters, another challenge since the soil warms up more quickly than in the ground and requires frequent watering. Still, it's fun and gets me outside.

I tried tomato plants when we first moved to Florida as they were so easy to grow in Michigan. But Florida tomatoes were problematic every year I tried. So, now, they come from the store.

Ran and walked today...... warm morning!

Good for you. I've been working in my garden. I've got some great looking tomato plants. Hoping to get good fruit set before it gets too hot. That's always a challenge, especially as night time temps get warmer earlier.

I do miss the spring arts events that have all been canceled and lunch with friends. But changes required for social distancing have not been as abrupt for me as a retiree. I guess the trade off is that we retirees are in the risk pool.

The grocery stores here have done a good job enforcing / promoting social distancing. The number of people allowed into the store at one time is limited (which of courses means lines to get in). The lines are controlled like in the airport (LOL), with markings on the floor at 6 foot intervals. HEB won't let you in if you're not wearing a mask.

Many stores have special hours reserved for seniors, usually early in the morning which gives you first shot at stocked shelves. We went to Costco this morning during senior hours. Short line to get into a fairly empty store.

I think we have been lucky in Austin with a very proactive mayor. He closed restaurants, nonessential businesses and schools about a month ago, even before there were very many known cases. He also canceled South by Southwest, which usually happens during spring break and brings in music and tech industry people from all over the world.

So the number of cases here are growing linearly rather than exponentially, so far, fingers crossed.

Afternoon...

I do not live much different than I normally do. Except spending time with friends once in awhile and going out to eat.

Going to the grocery store tomorrow early. Last week I went on Thursday about 10:30 and it was practically wall to wall people. Tough to stay at a distance. Going to try tomorrow early see how busy it is.

Ran my hour today - still using 15:60s. Hopefully, will be able to run more beginning next week.

The weather is beautiful here in Austin (the lull before the storm :-). My vegetables are all planted and looking good. Lots of work still to do in the yard as everything is growing like crazy. It helps that this is what I'd be doing anyway in a "normal" year.

Most of my neighbors are also working in their yards. We wave from a distance.

If I sounded harsh, I apologize. I'm just a believer in following the advice of the doctors and scientists. I don't think they would hide anything that helps. As long as drinking warm water is in addition to the advice of the experts, no harm done.

Since the virus doesn't enter the lungs from the stomach, I can't see how drinking warm water could possibly help. Besides, our body temperature is over 98 and that certainly doesn't deter it. Wish it were that simple.

Afternoon...

Spring has been around for awhile near me. It is beautiful weather!!

Ran and walked today. Lots of people out, but everyone gives everyone else lots of space.

I keep getting alerts on my phone....IF YOU ARE 65 OR OLDER - STAY AT HOME!!!

I did watch a short video..... on FB..... drinking warm water may keep the virus from entering your lungs... as it doesn't like warm temperatures, or the sun, and just will move to the stomach where it dies from the stomach acid.

Stay safe and HEALTHY!!!

@Sharon, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother.

***

AFM

Just got home from an hour walk. Sitting here icing the injured area of my leg. I think icing helps. I have also started wearing a compression sleeve on that leg while walking to help keep it from swelling up. Hoping that helps.

Going to see "Dolittle" today. Should be a fun movie then out to eat. Having a terrible time losing these pounds I have gained since I stopped running plus the other 15 I needed to lose anyway.

Oh Jean!! I had no idea about your accident. Wishing you a speedy recovery..

I have not been around for awhile. Still Running, training and fitness Battling my weight loss maintenance. Made it to 5 years staying within 3-5 % range. I have been struggling this past year going over 3%.

My Mom passed away Jan. 23rd and still feeling disbelief. I moved back to NC from Tampa area to care for her almost 10 years.. This was so unexpected. She has had stomach issues, digestion, pain when eating and blockage. Come to find out the day before she passed, she had Gangrene in stomach and intestine area. This showed up on a higher definition CT. With all the X-Rays and CT scans they did,it never showed up. Not sure why they waited to do the higher one so much later. This is what caused her the blockage. I wished her doctors had been more proactive to have ordered more tests to find this out sooner instead of when it is too late.. This type of gangrene occurs when blood flow to an internal organ is blocked — for example, when your intestines bulge through a weakened area of muscle in your abdomen (hernia) and become twisted. Internal gangrene may cause fever and severe pain. Left untreated, internal gangrene can be fatal. She never had the fever. To me it sounds like something that was going on over a period of time. I just can't believe this happened over night.. I miss my Mom very much. We did so much together. We were always very close but much closer these past 10 years.

Sorry that I have not logged on here in so very long.....

A bicyclist ran into me in November and I have not yet been running since. Hopefully in another month. So much soft tissue damage on my leg near my ankle. Just keeps swelling up. Luckily NO BROKEN BONES anywhere....

Hi June, you might be able to find metatarsal pads at a good running store or pharmacy. They are also easy to find online. The Natural Foot Gear website that I linked to in my original post sells them. They may also have an article on how to use them.

I bought my Superfeet at REI. I would expect a good running store to have them. And then there's always Amazon.

Thanks again Catherine

I do have vibrams, haven't worn them lately, they have no padding at all so might be something to wear later when my foot is not so sore. Does one get the metatarsal pads at a running shoes store or in the pharmacy? I will try my running shoes store regarding the insoles with extra padding on the ball of the foot. I saw wearing high heels could be a cause, not in my case. So it stands to reason that the running shoe stores will have these solutions for women runners.

June, foot problems are tough, as I well know. Like the back, hard to avoid using them.

I hope your doctor can help. In the meantime, since putting pressure on the ball of the foot caused this flare up, which suggests some inflammation is involved that might be mitigated, I agree that strategies to relieve pressure on the ball of the foot is the way to go short term.

Did your doctor say anything about metatarsal pads? I never used them, but I know people who swear by them. If some of the pressure on your irritated nerves comes from a weak metatarsal arch, they might help. I used the pink Superfeet insoles in my zero drop shoes. They have extra padding in the ball of the foot and are targeted to women (lots of us with problems from high heels). I also wore men's running shoes for the extra width in the toe box.

Wearing Vibrams fixed my foot pain, but now I have difficulty finding regular women's shoes that I can wear. They are almost all too tight in the toe area. Fortunately, I live in a warm climate and dressy sandals are an option. I have become a little notorious for my Vibrams, however. I have many styles and wear them almost everywhere. One of the good things about being 70 is that you can get away with a lot in the name of comfort.

Good to hear from you. I'm sorry it is for this reason.

Thanks Catherine - you are always a great source of information, thank you for sharing your experience.

I went to the doctor, he felt my foot and believes it is a neuroma, he ordered an x-ray which ruled out broken bones or arthritis, now I am scheduled for a soft tissue scan. Morton's neuroma is between the 3rd and 4th metatarsal bone, mine is between the 2nd and 3rd so technically not Morton's neuroma but an interdigital neuroma. I have had plantar fasciitis before and have gotten better by stretching. Plantar fasciitis is an imflammation, so it will go away when properly treated. Neuromas are considered to be growths or masses, which can thicken and damage the nerve. I had similar pain a few years ago and I rested from running for a while and it went away. I think I injured the ball of my foot when I was doing some exercises that required pressing down hard on the ball of my foot for an extended period of time. I think my foot has less tissue, less fat and muscle since menopause, so it injured more easily, but I do feel silly about overdoing the exercise and provoking this condition. I also have flat feet and bunions, and that is on the list of possible causes as well. I wish this was just an inflammation because then I could recover. I spent years running in minimal support runners with spacious toe boxes which made my feet stronger, I kind of don't want to wear those super padded runners that save your feet but give knee and hip problems. I am for now wearing shoes that are more padded so as to not aggravate the neuroma. I guess I hope to recover like from plantar fasciitis, but have read that if there is not a proper course of support to healing with the neuroma, I could end up with permanent nerve damage, which can be alleviated with surgery. I really really hope that with being careful not to further aggravate the nerve, the pain will go away, and then I will carefully start running again and also not do anything that will press hard on my foot for an extended period of time. Arggh. The exercise I did that provoked this was the I decided to learn to skate board, for improving balance. I just wanted to learn to glide around on a skate board, not do anything risky or fancy like jumps and tricks. After I achieve a basic sense of balance, I thought I would spend a morning practicing in an empty parking lot, 4 hours of pressing down on the balls of my feet for balance, I was thinking I would best improve my balance by practicing for a long period rather than an bunch of shorter periods. Sigh. Really not liking getting older and more fragile due to menopause. I think I pressed so hard because I was finding my balance and was a bit teetery. I think once I find my balance, it should be like riding a bike, easy, natural, second nature.

In the mean time, I am doing my best to do the right thing so my foot will heal - wearing wide toe box padded shoes, wearing shoes in the house (I have a hard floor - cement with radiant heat coils covered by hardwood or linoleum), wearing toe socks and thicker socks over top and with this combo, being careful to not wear shoes or boots that are tight on the middle of my feet, being careful not to press down hard on my feet, to walk and stand lightly.

Hi June. I'm sorry to hear about your problem. As you may recall, I struggled with ball of foot issues when I was running (although not specifically Morton's Neuroma). Have you been diagnosed by a physician? I ask because similar symptoms of ball of foot pain can have different causes, which makes it confusing.

That being said, I found the educational information on the Natural Footgear web site to be very useful. Here is their article on Morton's Neuroma.
naturalfootgear.com/blogs/ed
ucation/17

In my case, I resolved my ball of foot problems by wearing zero drop shoes and gradually spreading my toes with Vibrams. The key for me was strengthening the metatarsal arch while taking pressure of it that occurs when you wear shoes with elevated heels.

Good luck.

PS I should add that I used cushioned insoles in my running shoes during the transition to pain free running.

Just wondering if anyone has had Morton's Neuroma.

I'm not sure what to do. Stop running for a bit and hope the pain stays away if I start again slowly. Will the pain go away with rest?

JEAN.... What is your esophagus issue? About 5 yrs ago, I was having sudden chest pains that came and went in a second or two. So I knew it wasn't a heart attack. But I feared it was Angina or a heart related issue. One was so bad, I almost went to the ER. I called my paramedic son and told him about it and what did he think? He asked me, "Didn't you run this AM?" I said yes (I was training for a half marathon at that time). He asked how I felt. I said, "GREAT" as always." He said, "That's not Angina. If you had that, you'd feel miserable! But I'm not a doctor. If you are having chest pains, get in!". So I called the nurse and of course, she said to come in immediately! After talking to the doc about all of it and reviewing my history (I have ZERO heart disease on both sides of the family which he said was HUGE in my favor...not that heart issues are impossible, but unlikely), he sent me off to a gastro doc. She (gastro doc) was amazed he didn't have me do a stress test to confirm it wasn't heart. So I had one. Being I was training for a half, I passed that baby with flying colors! I totally impressed the technician for a woman my age! So that was fun! Anywho....I ended up being scoped which wasn't bad at all. Turned out I have Acid Reflux...or GERD...whatever you want to call it. So apparently, what was causing the chest pain, was my esophagus. When acid creeps up there, it can cause a spasm. There is a nerve right next to the esophagus that leads into the heart. When the esophagus does a spasm, it hits that nerve and it feels like a heart attack. WHEW.... Acid Reflux is not good, but it beats heart disease. The nurse told me if I lost some weight, it'd probably go away. It did...but now I'm back up and just rejoined WWs (it's half price for three months until 11/4). So I rejoined...Told hubby if I don't lose anything, then I won't continue when the trial period is over).

Sorry so long....Just curious about the esophagus thing. So....I need to take better care of myself as I don't want to get Barret's Syndrome or worse...esophageal cancer!

As for PF....I'm feeling MUCH MUCH better! Only did occasional walking, no running at all, and I had been taping my food to suspend my fascia. It has made a HUGE difference. I need to build up that walking now and throw in some small runs. Maybe do your split. I have a 5K on Thanksgiving morning...so....we'll see if I walk it or run it as my foot allows. I'm about 97% healed!

Sorry to hear about your groin issue. That takes a while as well. My son has the same thing and he's been frustrated at how long it's been taking. This soft tissue stuff is ANNOYING at how slow it takes to heal. I hope you are on the mend and feel like your normal self soon. I know...what's normal, right? LOL

My trip seems like AGES ago already! :( .

LYNN: Your trip looked and sounds amazing. You were gone a long time. Loved all the photos on FB. Sorry about your PF. I buy Vionic sandals - almost the only type of shoe (except for running) that I wear. Well, I do live in Florida - the sandal state.

My groin muscle is slowly getting better. I have been using 15:80s for run-walk. Even with this easy interval - I can tell the muscle is still very weak. For longer runs - I use 15:60s for 1 mile then walk one mile then run-walk again etc.

Haven't been feeling so great this week... This esophagus issue is disturbing. I tried to add some foods back into my diet, but triggered more problems. I am fairly certain I will have to see a specialist and have a scope done...

Bought a book yesterday from Amazon that my daughter recommended - about a medical medium's understanding of food and illnesses. I like data rather than - some intuitive ideas - but she really likes it and so I bought it also. He recommends juicing celery and drinking it every day. Who knew????

Even data and diets are conflicting though.... don't eat this or that..... do eat this or that. Depending on who wrote it the message is not always the same....

Supposed to go out for 7 miles today, but didn't. I will tomorrow or the next day.

I failed to mention that I have terrible plantar fasciitis. It's from those "Fitbit Challenges!!!!" Too much too soon, apparently! So this all happened right before our big hiking trip out west (Utah and AZ canyons). I paid good money on quality hiking boots and added special inserts. I also bought Hoka running shoes and added inserts to that as well. Last spring, thankfully, I bought some Veronics flip flops. Turns out, I spent about $500 in footwear since last spring! But it was money well spent as between these arch support shoes, and taping my foot, I was able to do several hikes without any issues! Have stopped all running for now. Yet another setback! I just keep on fighting back!

Oh my, JEAN...Didn't know you had a groin injury. My son has that. He's finally getting better to the point he can run, so long as he doesn't go out strong or long. Before, he couldn't even do that.

I'm still battling plantar fasciitis. I've stopped all running, cut back on walking, that is, until we had our hiking trip to southern Utah/northern Arizona. I taped my foot with some heavy duty tape and bought some pricy, GOOD quality hiking boots as well as Hoka shoes, all with more pricy inserts! I spent $500 on arch support flip flops, Hoka running/walking shoes, Solomon hiking boots, and inserts for the latter two! Gone are the day of cheap shoes, that is for sure. The hiking distances were reduced for our trip, although the last day in Sedona, we hiked for six miles. I took an Ibuprofen after that! Lots of rock climbing involved and our knees (and I'm blessed with good knees) were barking! Otherwise, the shorter 3 miler hikes left no pain behind so long as I had the tape on and good hiking boots with quality inserts.

Trying the Sparkpeople diet programs to lose some weight. Tired of WWs. My SIL had good success with the cell phone program of "Noon", but she, as well as many others, are having trouble canceling the subscription. It's even been reported to the BBB! So, no thanks! Thought I would try this FREE program, track on here, and see my ole Spark friends more often. We'll see how it works. May need a more formal program.....

Hope your groin injury heals completely soon, JEAN.... ILOVETOPLAY...Welcome and hope to hear from you again soon!

Lynn

Started HM training this week.... HM is not until 2/2 though...

This groin muscle is almost healed.... been walking mostly with just a little running thrown in. For example - went out for 5 miles on Monday... walked a mile.... run-walk a mile... walked....run walk.... walk. But even the run-walk was only run 15 seconds, walk a minute.

Biking again today.

Hope all is well with all of you....

Good Morning!

It has been beautiful in Florida the last week or so. The rainy season has taken a break and every day is hot still, but beautiful.

Have not been running much - since I pulled that muscle in my leg. Biked yesterday, been walking. Hopefully can start running again soon.

Pulled a muscle in that last race and have not been able to run since then. I will try tomorrow - hopefully it will feel okay.

I have given up on the marathon training for a December race. I have missed the last 3 long runs because of health issues. I am signed up for a HM in, I think, February - so will rewrite my training plan and work on this goal. Maybe a marathon is in my future, but maybe not.

Good Morning!

Heading outside in a couple minutes for a short walk - down to the neighborhood dock (which is on a pond) to see if I can get any decent bird photos.

The 5K on Saturday was very fun. I ran the best I could and finished 6th in my age group. If I were 3 months older I'd be in the next age group (70-74) and I would have been 2nd. So that is something. I was glad I didn't keel over [as it does cross my mind even though I am fairly certain all these chest issues are from my esophagus]. I think my average pace was 13:26. The winners in my age group were close to a 10:00 minute mile pace. I cannot imagine.

Have a great day runners and walkers

Afternoon!!!

LYNN: Hurray for signing up for another tri!

***

Between taking ibuprofin for a week waiting to get into the endodontist and taking an antibiotic for 3 1/2 days - my poor esophagus has had a terrible time. I stopped taking the antibiotic and most of the pain went away - Zantac (?) spelling seems to help a lot...

***

Called my doctor's office thinking I should talk to him about this chest pain... Here is the conversation....

ME: I think I need an appt to see my doctor.
OFFICE: You think you need one.
ME: Yes.... I have....[interrupted]
OFFICE: What is your birthdate
ME: (gave information)
OFFICE: You have an appt coming up plus labs. Have you filled out the paperwork yet? [my wellness exam in the 30th]
ME: No
OFFICE: Well, you need to fill it out and send it in.
ME: I thought I needed to bring it with me.
OFFICE: No, send it in, it takes us a lot of time to type all that information into the computer.
ME I am having pain in my chest and I am unsure what it might be. Might be my esophagus or something else more serious.
OFFICE: I doubt I can get you in any sooner. But you need to fill out that paperwork.
ME: [very angry by this time,] Just forget it then. I will wait until next week.
OFFICE: Are you sure?
ME: Good bye - [hung up]

In spite of this - I ran on Tuesday.... 3 miles - faster each mile - with the last mile close to my previous 5K average pace. I will run again tomorrow and then the 5K on Saturday. I do not think I will beat my recent best 5K, but might improve my course record as this is the 3rd time I have entered this particular 5K race.

JEAN: How is that tooth? I hope it's not as bad as you think. Sometimes we fear the worst. Had to laugh at your comment...."any excuse not to run long". I can come up with 101 excuses why I shouldn't do anything involving movement. Ha, ha...

My youngest son, 35, took up swimming to add to his biking and running (groin injury has running on hold, but he's walking up a storm). So now he wants to do a triathlon that's here in Aug. This is for 2020. He has me all signed up as well, so I better get back in the game!

LYNN - I would freak out also. and WTG on your fitbit challenges with your family. You are doing fantastic.

Having trouble with my front capped tooth. Have an appt tomorrow. I think the little tooth inside the cap is dying. So I haven't been exercising very much - as I am worried about some internal infection.... - any excuse to keep me from running my long run last Sunday.

Hi all....I am so bad about getting on here!!! I keep thinking of this place and all of you on my run/walks and thing that is the day I'll get on and then something distracts me. My latest HUGE distraction is this:

I dislocated my finger from a fall. Was walking my dog with the hubby at night. I didn't see the uneven sidewalk before me and tripped over the ledge and then over my dog using my hand to catch my fall but apparently, at an awkward angle. I about freaked out when I saw this. Thought my finger was toast! We went to the ER where I freak out the triage nurse. They saw me immediately. The ER Doc came in, sat at the side of my bed and gently said, "We could get an IV drip in here and wait for 45 min while your hand gets numb, do it, and then you'd wait a few more hours before getting feeling back in it. OR....we could do this in TWO seconds and it'll be over! Just TWO seconds VS HOURS!" I knew what he meant....popping it back in. I chose the 2 seconds and I'm so glad I did. It didn't even hurt!!!! TV over exaggerates this stuff. Anyway....after several days of swelling, it's starting to look normal. I did, however, tear a ligament on the inside of the middle joint. So I have to buddy tape it for three weeks every day and for up to 8 weeks for when ever I do sports. Even walking and running in case I fall again as it can be dislocated from just a bump.

None of this has stopped me. My family has Fitbit challenges going all the time. So we are walking and running up a storm. I got up to 5.25 miles of run/walk Sunday, and JEAN....I, too ended up with 10+ miles total for Sunday to finish a Yosemite NP challenge. I came in 3rd which is saying something given the men in the family go all out! Great training for our Utah/Arizona canyons tour in early October as we plan to do a lot of hiking there.

Mild heel pain (guessing plantar fasciitis) on the right foot, so I've been splinting it at night, icing after walks and runs and doing some stretches. So far, it's pretty mild.

Good for you, JEAN, in wanting to plan a marathon!!! I'd like to do a half at Thanksgiving if I can. We'll see how this foot thing goes.

Good morning...

Dee: I have always wanted to attend one of your dance classes.

**

Been running (3x per week) and biking a little (2x per week). Thinking about buying a new bike. The one I have (about 6 years old) is getting very rusty. I would like a bike that doesn't rust in this humid weather.

Last night we went to see "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" with Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. Honestly, it was probably the worst movie I can ever remember watching.

The Space Coast Marathon is a great race - probably the prettiest I've run. I really enjoyed it.
You'll do fine!

As for me, not managing more than running twice a week, but I did dance up a storm in Mexico last weekend. I taught an Israeli dance workshop in Saltillo and had a great time.

Managed 9 miles (mostly walking) on Sunday - very hot!
4 miles yesterday - hot, but much easier than Sunday's distance

I have probably mentioned this numerous times... but during the summer I most often run by heart rate rather than pace....

I love the way I can program workouts into my Garmin. I might have a 60 minute run at 80% of my max HR... and so I run enough to maintain that. The first couple miles are usually close to the pace I would normally run for a steady state run, but the last couple are often slower.

You should do great. So excited for you. I would love to do that race one day.. Good excuse to come back to Florida..

I ran yesterday. I was going to try for 12 miles, but the heat, humidity and Full Sunshine got to me and stopped at 10 miles. HM for week was to be 10 miles and MM was 12, so I am still happy with that. Hopefully next week I can make up for it. After mile 5, I had to do more walking and hydrating..

I am looking at the Space Coast Marathon - it has a 7 hour time limit - which is the amount of time I will need.

I will see - who knows if I can get past the 13 miles with my arches (well, and the rest of this body).

Sharon: Hurray for a training plan... LOL They definitely help!

Weather: Sounds like it is hot in a lot of places this time of year.

Dee: Did you get outside and run a little?

***

Supposed to do 1 mile intervals today.
Supposed to rain.

I will see what happens in an hour.... :)

Marathon Training: I actually am going to start a 20 week MT plan in a couple weeks. I do not know if my feet can handle the time and distance needed. I have not signed up for one yet (it is early December), but if I can make it the 20 mile distance - if I can even do the 17 one.... I will then sign up. I know how my feel feel after a HM distance.

I hope everyone had a nice 4th of July! Jean, we use to vacation at Mrytle Beach a lot before moving to FL way back when.. Even when growing up in NY.. Myrtle Beach and FL we are go to places.. Your pictures are beautiful..

Dee, I enjoyed seeing your pictures of your travels too.. Wishing you happy running. I know you will get back to it..

I enjoyed easy running for the month of June.. Now training starts. I just finished week 1/14 MM/HM Training for Fall Training.. I am signed up for Oct. and Nov. HM but may switch the Nov. one to a Full.. Not sure, we shall see how it goes. It has been a long time since running a Full and that was the Clearwater Gulf Beaches way back in 2001, 2002 and I think 2003. I think 2000 I ran a relay with a few friends..

It has been so hot here.. Keep cool.

Thursday I did go out for an easy run - that means maintaining a heart rate of about 75% of my max. (for me that is about 136).

When I walked in the door I checked and it was 81 degrees and 80% humidity.

Biked very easy yesterday and that seemed like harder work than running on Thursday.

Will run again tomorrow...

Yesterday went to see the new Spiderman movie. It was good and exciting once you got through the 1st 10-15 minutes of seemingly needless material.

It's more than summer here, it's hotter than Hades. Although we did have a few ferocious rainstorms to cool things off this weekend.

i will force myself to get out there this afternoon. Even if it's slow. Even if it's ridiculously hot and humid.

Hi everyone! Nice to see some posts.

DEE: What an awesome trip! You are such a world traveler!! Go outside and run - it is definitely summer in your world.

SHARON: 4 miles 3x a week sounds very doable - especially this time of year. I have been trying to run a longer 2 hours (very slowly) every other week.

Ate WAY too much on our trip to Myrtle Beach. But, the weather was beautiful, walked a great deal - morning - and then some sight-seeing - and then on the boardwalk to and from dinner most nights. No running at all - but plan to get outside tomorrow morning.

Hi Elizabeth!! Nice to meet you.

I am enjoying June as my recovery/ rest.. I ran two Half Marathons in the Spring and soon will start training for two Fall Races.. I have been running maybe 4 miles 3 x a week.. Next week it ramps up to 5 miles on Tuesday..

Good morning, all!
Back from an incredible trip to China and Tibet. I'm still struggling with jet lag 10 days later, but doing better.

Jean, your travels sound wonderful. My son and his family will be moving to Madrid soon; if I can only make myself retire, I could spend a month or so there trying to learn Spanish. Fortunately there are similarities with French, so it would be doable. Once I retire.....

That's the current mental battle. It would mean not having extra cash flow to help my two youngest. But then it's high time they take care of themselves. Sigh. Such a difficult decision.

Good Morning.....

LYNN: Have you ever been involved with the photography group called 52frames?

***

Another beautiful April morning....
I walked a short distance to a neighborhood pond - a little over a mile. Tried to take some decent photos..... none turned out....

I am going to investigate Farmer's Markets in my area. I would like to start buying fresh produce from a local grower.

We are heading to Las Vegas on Sunday. I remember when we scheduled this.... I said - do you think this is too soon after getting back from Europe. It was a free timeshare week - so no cost to us and Rick had supposedly free tickets..... which ended up costing quite a bit. Luckily, I like Las Vegas.

Got home late Wednesday. Wow, was I tired after the very long travel day.

We had a great time. I loved Paris and Germany. I would return to both - but probably not on a tour. When I was in Germany, I thought how interesting it would be to live in one of those little cities we visited on the Rhine for a month and take German classes, go to the market square every day and buy fresh vegetables.

Walked today for 4 miles... will run for the 1st time in 2 weeks on Sunday.

We are leaving Friday for a couple weeks. Viking river cruise in Europe. Unsure if I will be able to log on here while I am gone. I am taking Ipad, phone, but not my computer.

Plan on walking everyday..., but not running at all. A really long rest week....:)

Run-walk 60 minutes - Steady State at about 80% of max HR

I use running for the following fitness goals...
Cardiovascular fitness
Cardiovascular endurance
also running helps
Lower body mucular strength and endurance.

I would certainly like to be faster, but that is no longer my main goal...
Pace just ends up to be whatever it is at my target HR....

Seabreeze,
it sounds like you got a great workout in. I am very much an emotional eater as well, glad though that you are focused now and back on track. Its hard to get started but once you're "there" it does get easier.

Yesterday I did 14K on the TM, slow and easy. Today I will do nothing. Going to a baby shower this afternoon so will try not to indulge too much. It will be hard, I love those little sandwiches they have at showers! WILLPOWER

Good Morning....

This last year has been emotionally difficult for me and I regained some weight - as I tend to try to solve sadness and stress through eating...

I am focused once again.... and back on track with 'my' diet. "Today" I feel confident that this focus and commitment will continue. I would like to lose 20 pounds.

Yesterday, I did HIT for my run-walk.
Warm up walk only 3 min...
Run-walk EASY for 1/2 mile
then
Seven times - 3 minute runs at 90% of max with a walk recovery in between to about 70%
then
Run-walk EASY to finish a 60 minute work-out
then
Cool down - walk only till I get home

For the 3 minute runs - I tried run 80 seconds; walk 20 seconds; run 80 seconds. I need to walk less in order to keep my HR elevated.

Currently Reading:
Daughter of the Empire by Raymond Feist and Janny Wurts
and
The Book of Balance and Harmony - a Taoist classic translated by Thomas Cleary
(this book is often out of my ability to understand - but I do pick up tidbits on life here and there)

Hello Jean!
Thank you, it feels so great to be almost at my goal. I actually never expected to get below 140 so where I am feels so good.
I have used the Jeff Galloway plan many times, did a half-marathon using the run/walk method. Right now I am just mostly running (especially the slow easy ones) but will do the walk/run occasionally.
How did your run go?

I did intervals on Wednesday, and tomorrow am suppose to do an easy long run in Z2 for 90 mintues. I did this same run last Saturday.

I would love to run outside after work today but it is giving rain today. Suppose to only have a high of 6*C with heavy rain. Not such a nice day!

Crazy.... when I opened this thread it didn't show anyone had posted since I did... then when I posted - a bunch showed up.... LOL so here is another post from me.

ELIZABETH: I just noticed the notes you have added to the bottom of your post. Congratulations and losing so much weight and getting much more healthy. Almost to goal weight - hurray!! I also base ALL my runs on Heart Rate and Time. Each of my runs that I use for my maintenance plan have a target HR - and can range anywhere from 75% - 90% of my max HR. I, too, have a Garmin. I just adjust my run walk intervals so that I can meet my target average heart rate. Do you use Galloway's run walk program or are you following another type of program?

LYNN: Yes, Florida may be keeping daylight savings time permanently. That would be okay with me. How is your training going for your 5K? About a month away.

Good Morning....

Heading outside in about 60 minutes for a nice run..(and walk).

My sister is in Florida with some friends for 3 weeks and I drove to where she is staying and spent the night with her and her friends. What a great group they are!

Summer is definitely approaching in Florida. Mornings are usually 65 - 70 degrees and mid afternoon is near mid 80s.

Today was an interval session on the treadmill. I actually had an awesome run. My average pace was much better than just last week, I am feeling quite happy! After getting off the TM I went outside and realized how nice it was and that I could have ran outside. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow.

Yes, I was sound asleep in dreamland when my alarm went off yesterday morning! 5am to my body and mind. lol But, I went to bed early last night and feel good today. lol Plus, the sun is out and I think its giving some warmer temps later in the week. I am hoping to get a run outside in on maybe Thursday. We'll see. We dont' have sidewalks here so I need to have the shoulder of the roads clear of snow and ice.

Awesome that you are training for a 5K. And...on my birthday as well!! haha emoticon For a great cause for sure. I agree, its hard to be motivated in the winter months when its cold and dreary. I do feel a difference....I feel Spring on its way. yay!

Today my training plan tells me to do an easy 30 minute run. Sounds good to me. I will do it on my treadmill.

Welcome, Elizabeth! I'm guessing you might have been more tired this AM trying to catch up on that lost hour of sleep! There's been A LOT of talk these days about dumping time changes. I am ALL for it! I don't care if it's standard time or daylight savings time as there are pros and cons to both....but stick with something and be done with it already. JEAN....your state is a handful that have passed laws to keep DLST, but it hasn't gone into effect. CA is also one of them...They are saying it has to be approved by the Feds, and they said they are in enough trouble with the Feds right now so didn't want to push it. LOL LOL LOL However, your Senator, Rubio, has just written and submitted a bill keeping the whole nation on DLST. So time will tell if that is the case. Much research shows the spring time change causes more accidents, heart attacks, loss in job hours from absences, etc., than any other tie of year.

Started training for an Apr. 13 5K. I volunteer for a boxing class for folks with Parkinson's and this race supports research for a cure and/or better treatments via the Michael J. Fox foundation. So many of the clients and the coach is going so thought I'd join in as well. I've done little to no exercise being so unmotivated with constant 20 degree weather with ice and snow! FINALLY....we are climbing back up as old man winter loses his grip! In fact, could be in the mid to upper 60s by Thursday! We'll be running around in our bikinis! LOL

Wow getting up today was hard! I am usually up at 6am when I am working so today seemed like 5am I guess. Had a pretty good weekend, my sister visited on Saturday night so it was nice to spend some time with her. There was wine involved. emoticon

I work part-time/casual in a dental office and Mondays is a day that I am always on the schedule to work. So it is typically my "rest" day, no exercise today. Yesterday I did a PiYo workout. Tomorrow the program I am following calls for an easy 30 min run.

Woke up this morning with a huge kink in my neck! Not sure what I did in the night but sure feeling it this morning!

Hi Jean, thanks! I do find it hard sometimes to find active groups on here.

Yesterday my I did my long run....which was an hour. This plan I am following uses time and heart rate instead of distance. I have a Garmin that tells me my heart rate so yesterday was a slow easy one. Today it calls for "crossfit" so I'll do something else I guess.

I think walking is great, I love to get outside for a brisk walk. I am hoping that the roads clear up here soon! I am looking so forward to spring.
