Good morning, everyone.

Cold here, but Austin got lucky with the weather last night. The ice and below freezing temps stopped just north of us. Sounds pretty bad in Dallas, though.

I have to hang around waiting for a package that requires a signature. This is the third delivery attempt and then it gets sent back.

Hopefully it won't be too late as I need to get to the gym fora run plus run a number of errands. Have a great day!

Hi everyone,
Cindy, hope nothing important was lost and the mess is dealt with and things are back to normal.
sort of did my hill work today, and timed it more carefully. it seems to be only 20 feet over 0.14 miles, but given that i run the whole way (ranged from 98 to 104 seconds) and my hr finished each run around 165 (89%), i think it was work. i did almost 5 climbs — i was zonked, but the bigger problem was a bunch of people walking down the hill, blocking the run, so i only did 0.12 miles of it. then i ran another 2.2 miles to the market, and bought some fruit & fish & veggies and walked home and nearly froze (45, wind chill 41) because of course what's warmly dressed enough to run in is not warm enough to walk home sweaty with the groceries in…
what i don't quite get is why my best runs are the long ones … both in terms of time and feeling and pleasure. my calves hurt for the first 3-4 miles regularly, and the first and last are the most traffic lights & pedestrians …but i'd give today a 2.75/3, anyway.
have a great weekend.
things remain very hectic here for another week — then should calm down somewhat.

HI everyone,

sorry to those who suffer from the cold weather. Reading about yours makes me feel better about our temperatures in the 50's. It is too cold for the time of year, but still much better than yours.

Yesterday I had 2 functions to attend in the evening and it started pouring rain. I did well on the food side, but slipped up on the drinks, including too much juice... It was freshly pressed.... forever my temptation..... LOL

So I need to do better over the weekend. But there is the office function tomorrow.

No exercise today & yesterday apart from some walking. Will pick up tomorrow again

Such a busy week my running is down. It was very dark, wet, and raw yesterday but today was brighter, but COLD. That in itself would not stop me from running... But my house was in such disarray with holiday decorating, I couldn't stand it. I did a marathon decorating and cleaning job to finally finish it off.

My son and his family, whom we just saw last weekend (they live 4 1/2 hours from here), will be here this tomorrow thru Sun AM for his brother's paramedic graduation. We planned on going downtown Chicago on Saturday to see all the Christmas decorations. It's so beautiful there at this time of year, but it's only suppose to be 20 degrees. Ouch ! We'll have an 18 month old with us as well. Bring on the blankets!

Hope to run Sun afternoon. It's not going to happen before then, that's for sure.

I can't look at our temps for the Jingle Bell Run on Saturday without thinking of the rest of the country! Waking up to balmy 30s and a high of 44. I'll walk with my sister in holiday cheer!

Went to City Sports in Downtown DC for Packet Pickup. The volunteers thought it was cool that my sis was wearing the same race run shirt I got in Tampa, 2010. They save those tech shirts for $$ goal achievers. I do like my cotton holiday run shirt I got.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Well, we are having our yin and yang weather -- 80 yesterday and 40's today, getting colder over the next few days, maybe even some freezing rain over the weekend. I can hardly wait.
emoticon
I feel very lucky to have the gym track to fall back on, although if it is just cold, I'll be outside. Ice I will probably skip.

Cindy, I'm sorry to hear about the flood -- hope nothing important was stored down there!

Today was a 7 mile, MP tempo run. Fortunately my Saturday and Sunday runs this week are shorter "long" runs -- 10 miles each day. We have matinee concerts both days, starting at 3:00 pm, so I will have to get to the gym early (or get outside early if the freezing rain doesn't materialize) to get the runs done in time to be "pretty" for the concerts (ha, ha).

I did meet one other goal last week, my book reading goal for 2013. I had originally set this goal at 52 -- one book a week, but it was clear early on that I was going to get to that number around half way through the year. I kept increasing the goal until I finally settled on 100. I finished book 100 yesterday.

Stacie, hope the weather in Houston is about 60 during the Santa Hustle.
This weekend it's supposed to be 36 on Saturday morning with rain. My last 16 miler was about the same and suffered through hypothermia for the last 4 of those miles. Hope to be better prepared this time.
24 degrees and snow for 17 miles sounds dreadful to me.

Good morning all!!

The forecast for my 17 mile run on Sunday is a high of 24 degrees and a 70% chance of snow! I may try to do it on Saturday which will be colder, but clear. Excited and a bit apprehensive. I was pretty wiped out after my 15 miler. Slow and steady and just git 'er done!! I looked at the extended forecast for Galveston and am ecstatic to see predicted highs in the 60's for our stay. We may not want to go back home.

Trying to get in the Christmas spirit. I did some online shopping today. I'll be making candles for gifts this weekend plus trying my hand at some jewelry making. It will be a joy shopping for Kora!

Enjoy your day and stay active!!

Stacie

DEE: You are such a traveler!!! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time.

CINDY: Good grief. You sure have had some hurdles to jump over since moving.

Having a nice time on vacation. I did run on the beach yesterday but it was too slanty for me - I could tell cause my ankles and arches were noticeable. Will explore the internet today and see if I can find a nicer running trail in the area for tomorrow.

HI everyone,

am still going strong on the 3 early morning sessions in the gym a week. Haven't lost any weight though.... Have started doing intervalls for the whole time on the treadmill, but am still only doign 20 minutes Want to increase slowly.

Monty,
great that you are having this sister time. Hope the new Orthodics work well for you.

Stacie,
yeah for Babytime! Being so far away from home all my nieces & nephews grow up without me being much of a part of it.

SB:
Nairobi is known as the green city under the sun. Even though they are really cutting many, there are still lots of green spots all over. I enjoy looking out over town when we are on our construction projects (mostly highrise office blocks) and admire the green.

I live two miles from a Road a Runner store. Great shop. In warmer months, they have fun runs where you run to nearby retailers and collect coupons for items you can get back at the store. I'm also blessed to live by the Naperville Running store, a small business that was one of the first running stores in America and still wins awards for best this or that. I patronize both and the completion between the two has been amazing.

Nice 2200 yard swim thus AM and awesome Computraing last night.

Christmas deco boxes everywhere. Lots of work coming up.

Enjoy!

Yep, that store is one of the best running stores I've ever been to, Jean! I've been a Kayano runner since March 2011. I love them on my Halfs. I just started using the ASICS Noosa for my 5 & 10Ks along with my Tri 5Ks.

BBAHONORS: WooHoo for registering for your next HM!

MONTY: I didn't know RRS had real stores either. I have been wearing Kayanos for awhile now.

CATHERINE: Good job on the 1600s.

Short easy run planned for this morning. I want to run on the beach. Low tide is not until 1:00 or so. Will probably head out about 11:00 hoping for a strip of harder and flatter sand.

I'm really enjoying my time with my sis.

I discovered Road Runner Sports actually had live stores! My sis got her Brooks Ghost 6s there. So, we had to stop there today as i've never been. Ended up getting a Shoe Dog aka a full foot analysis! I figured I'd get another opinion.

Found out the way the new ASICS Kayano is designed with extra cushioning towards the mid foot strike. Since I started Pose Running, this would benefit me more than the recommended GT-3000. I love the comfort of the Kayano when you forget you're wearing running shoes, THAT speaks volumes!

I didn't buy any new ones as I will go back toARC and order a special edition Kayano. I DID get fitted for orthodics and scored a pair to putt in my shoes. Didn't see that coming!

Good afternoon, everyone.

I use my Kindle Fire a lot to respond to the Spark forumns. But I had to turn off the auto-correct function to be able to do so. It was continually inserting words before I was finished "typing" and it was usually the wrong word. It was impossible to beat it -- I didn't hit the keys fast enough. My sentences were always garbled. Now that I have disabled that function, I can go at my own speed and only the keys I touch get entered.

My heel seems pretty much back to normal and I am ready to resume my training plan. Today was speed work -- 3 x 1600 meters with 600 meter recoveries.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

About 4 more miles today on the beach..... Beautiful walk!!! Going to the original Ron Jon's Surf Shop this afternoon (another walk to the store). I don't think I'll buy a surf board though. They have LOTS of other good stuff.

LYNN: I've tried using my Kindle Fire to answer Spark....., but it is way too difficult to type more than a couple words..... Enjoy the biking tonight.

DIONNE: Thanks and good to "see" you on the chat thread! You have lots of time to train for an April HM. Are you using one of Jeff's training plans?

Congratulations, Jean!!! Great race so milk it for all it's' worth! emoticon

Haven't been on lately b/c my Mac is busted and using an iPad is not as easy (for me at least) to type comments. Need to take it in to the Apple Store but I need an ID to do so. Left my wallet at my son's house 4 1/2 hours away! They mailed it and it should be here today, hopefully.

Ran yesterday in balmy 41 degrees (felt balmy after all the 20s we've been having lately). Easy/fast/easy three miler. Computraing tonight. Ouch!

Have a good day!

Thanks for the many congratulations......

GARY; Sometimes I forget to eat on schedule during long runs too. Good job on the 11 miles.

MONTY: If anyone can teach someone to have fun with a race.... it has got to be you. Enjoy time with your sister.

STRIVER: Great run!!! Good luck to your daughter. You are a good mom for traveling to support her!!! Let us know how her auditions go.

CATHERINE: Great 5K time even if it was not a PR.

STEPH: A tree garden in your backyard. Envious!!!

STACIE: I am looking forward to some baby time in April. Will be spending a couple of weeks with my daughter, her new baby, and her husband.

*****

I wrote a blog about my race.
I was sure exhausted and stiff on Sunday, but yesterday felt good. No aches or pains at all. Walked a little over 4 miles on the beach. Today will probably do the same. Will run tomorrow.

I need to sit down and plan another race or two for this winter and then get my training plan on paper.

Oh, BTW Jeff Galloway qualified for Boston on Saturday. The qualifying time he needed was under 4:10 and he ran the marathon in 4:09:54 - a 9:33 pace. I am very happy for him.

I got loads of baby time over the holiday which makes me an extra happy grandma!! She's growing so fast. BF and I did a 45 minute run on Friday. I did my 12x800's yesterday. I was so close to skipping them, but a text from my DIL motivated me.

Have a great day all!!

I'm pretty much ready to jet up to DC today for a week stay with my sister. I'm going to help her with Mom's estate. We're also doing our first 5K together. It's the Jingle Bell Run in Arlington, VA this coming Sunday. I want to get her on a weekly workout plan. We'll probably do a quick walk pace but it's a start and we've all been there. Stay strong!

HI everyone,

I did get out of bed early and had a good workout in the gym. I started running in the second half of my treadmill time, want to increase slowly, was doing 2 min 1 min intervals for 10 minutes. It's a start.

Gary,
I did have fun and was not as tired as I had been on Friday morning

SB,
great race.

Hey....

FINISHED!!!! That is good.
If I PR'd it was only by a few seconds. I don't know the official results. I was running strong up until mile 9 and then my pace sort of deteriorated.

A good morning....
cool breeze and lower temps (mid 60s).

DH finished also - only a few minutes behind me. He ran 20 minutes faster than his last HM - a couple years ago. He used 20:35s and was under 3 hours.

Slow down man, listening to you make me almost dizzy.... So you are a good orange picker? Ok, when I get my trees planted, I will call you for the first harvest and if you are as experienced as you say I will train you on Mango & Avocado picking as well.
The Avocado trees are already waiting to be planted in a pot outside my door. I grew them from seeds.

Hi to every one else
Had a nice quiet weekend felt like a holiday. Yesterday I walked with Poli while he played golf, then we went home and had a quiet afternoon in. Today He came over for lunch and then we went to see a friends we hadn't seen in a while, brought her our present from India and showed her the pictures.

Now will hit the sack early since the alarm will go off at 5am to get me started to the gym

Good morning, everyone.

Cindy, so glad to hear that your MIL is doing well (under the circumstances).

I am just back from my Jingle Bell 5K. Not a PR, but close: 27:16 (Garmin time). It was about 20 degrees warmer this morning than it was for the Turkey Trot, but still a nice morning for a run -- around 60 degrees. Now I am ready for a nap.

Have to focus on getting packed for an 8 day trip back to DC tomorrow! Funny how I'm more concerned on having enough running clothes for working out and racing next week!

oh my goodness am i far behind! so am just going to wish Cindy and her MIL the best of luck, and say congrats to Catherine for a time i couldn't dream of, wish Dee a great trip, and say i'm thinking of SB, who is probably running at this very moment. and hi to the rest of you.
didn't have thanksgiving. worked hard, slept not enough. had a rotten 4 mile run, with 2 miles at 60/30, to make myself do it, though why, giving how slow it was.
today otoh, got 11 h of sleep, and not only ran 14 miles, but with negative splits, and a great great run again. why is it that my long runs are becoming the best? not slow, not fast (except in comparison to all the others). mostly because i'm being careful about sleep before them, i think, but also because on the shortish runs, a lot more of it involves crossing streets, waiting for lights, and running through and around tourists. i guess. today was all 30/30, except for a few 60/30s when i was going downhills. next time i might change it to 30/40 to try to be slower, but today i made the first half be slower partly by running on cobblestones — almost this entire run was along the Seine, and on the bottom part in places i generally run up along the road. i figured that would slow me down, and i was right. i made an effort to run the last 2 miles the hardest (and my HR stats show i succeeded, they were my only hard miles (141 & 144, the next hardest was 133), and despite being back with traffic lights and tourists, they were. first time i have ever had strength left to run the last 2 miles best! will post the map on a blog even though i still haven' t thanked everyone for commenting on the last one. will do that too.

Feeling positive about my sis returning to running! It's been about 13 years. We're scheduled for a Jingle Bell 5K in Arlington, VA next Sunday.
She just called me, excited, got the full gait analysis.and bought the recommended Brooks Ghost 6. She's been training to just walk the 5K and I will be right beside her. My goal is to show her how to have fun with it and enjoy it all!
I'll have her visiting me in Florida and joining us on all the fun runs!

SB, enjoy your race tomorrow.
Dee, hope your trip is a great one. It sounds like a good start.

AFM 11 miles run this morning with the fastest mile being the last one. Had almost nothing left in the tank at the finish. Ran and talked with a friend for the first 7 miles. When I do this I forget to drink and eat and it showed at the end.

Cindy - emoticon Hope MIL is doing well.

Dee - Hope you have a great trip!

AFM - I survived working Wednesday (into Thursday at 3am) and Friday and today. DD Jillian just left to return to college - this was her first weekend back at home - miss her so! Getting ready for a 5 mi "long" run before next weekend's indoor 20K. DH's ankle is bothering him - apparently he hit with his other foot while running. So, he's running on the treadmill. I'm going to run outside as it is about 28* and sunny. I've had a headache much of today. Need to clear my head.

A nice run, a fun Chanukah party, but no Thanksgiving. Tomorrow the Dead Sea and Jerusalem. Monday, Tel Aviv and a visit with an old friend from Houston who moved here 10 years ago. A nice break for me.

Have not been able to run . Life is a bit crazy . My MlL had brain surgery to remove a tumor about the size of an egg. It went well and we are very hopeful . It is likely to be benign. My girls return to St. Louis on Sunday. Not the thanksgiving weekend I imagined.

Lazy day! Went to American Running Company's Black Friday event, and scored 2 pairs of Spenco flipflops @ 20% off (huge), a free ARC ASICS Tech shirt, and received at $25 gift card for being the 7th person in the store, The card will come in handy as I'm waiting for the new ASICS GT-3000 to be released in the next 60 days!

Spent the afternoon at Dunedin Smokehouse, watching Nebraska find ways to shoot themselves in the foot. Iowa was rock solid.

Waiting for tomorrow as D & I have plans to run around with Gianna and see Frozen in 3-D!

Had a great Thanksgiving as well. Decided to just go to the Turkey Trot 5-miler and see what I could do--it was great! I jogged/walked and walked some more--even ran with Santa for a about a quarter of a mile, lol. It was cold at 20 degrees, though. Hope everyone who celebrates the holiday had a good one ;-).

Had a great Thanksgiving. Ran my second annual Turkey Trot with my dad. Used the run-walk-run method.

Glad to see so many others are staying active during the holiday.

(Jeff Galloway app is 1/2 price today. Available in iTunes. Just search for Jeff Galloway. I got the 5k and 10k. Thinking about getting the 1/2 marathon app as well)

HI everyone,

I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and not too much pumpkin pie. Now don't go spending all your money on black Friday, unless it is for new running shoes....

I went to the gym this morning. So that is 2 weeks in a row with 3 gym visits. |Am booking another golf lesson for tomorrow as well.

Have a great weekend everyone
