Basically, his whole policy has been to undo anything and everything President Obama put into place. And take kickbacks from big business.

It seems so unreal in a way - I can't understand how so many of them voted for this horrible plan!!! It seems as if any person with half an ounce of human emotion would have voted against it!

I think that's the major difference between the two parties - Republicans want to be sure they get more than anyone else, and Dems want to be sure that EVERYONE gets some, even if it means everyone gets a bit less.

Darn politicians. They will all have their cushy medical plans and everything even if they serve just one term in the House or Senate. About the only thing they could all agree on without a problem, right?

I can't believe they got rid of the age deductions! I'm 63, and was looking forward to hitting age 65 and getting that second deduction for being over 65! Now that is gone! Plus they're talking taking away Medicare (which I've paid into since I was 18), and Social Security (also paid into since age 18).

Honestly, I don't see anything happening under this administration. It would help if both parties actually condemned these hate crimes. Our leaders need to lead by example; talking/condemning these hate crimes is one thing but they need to do something about it, especially in their own states.

Yeah, well, with this administration we know it isn't going to happen now.

But just like for a while any state that received federal dollars for highways had to lower the speed limit to 55, they/we can stipulate that any school, public or private, that receives federal funds must do this educational program. Sort of national reconciliation or something. Or link it to federal monies for churches and such. Might work.

But we'd need an entirely different political or social climate than we have right now, that is for sure!

It would be great if programs were set up in schools in every city, but it would be much harder to push these things on churches and private schools as they are not regulated and can't be reached the same ways as public schools and such can be. They can only be persuaded for now unless more laws are passed maybe.

We definitely need education programs focusing on tolerance and acceptance of others - in the schools, in churches, in community groups. Everyone needs education on this!

Yeah, since Trump got in to the presidency, hate crimes based on religion have increased. And surprisingly (or maybe not), the majority of these crimes are against Jewish people, not Muslims.

Truly a scary time in our nation.

I live in Colorado and lived here most of my life. Up until the last several years it seemed as though people of any color was accepted fairly well. I heard some grumblings now and then about people of color but recently it's become much worse.

Southern Missouri, where we lived for 12, it's 99% white people and while you do see Hispanic people there they don't mingle with the white people. There are a some African American people there and they seem to be accepted a little more than Hispanic people but even then many don't like them being around. I can't tell you how many times I saw confederate flags in peoples yards, painted on people's vehicles or they had a little flag attached to their vehicle in some way. Our neighbor even told us once not long after we moved there that the wrong side won the Civil War! I was amazed at this statement!

On the other hand, I'm glad reason prevailed in the Alabama election!!!

Glad I don't live there, if that's how some areas are. Well, plus it probably is way too cold for me, at least in winter!

I can understand people who have strong beliefs about how they choose to live their lives. It's when they want to impose those beliefs on everyone else that makes me crazy!

I don't know where you live, but that sounds really bizarre.

Though I grew up in rural New York, about an hour outside New York City - and the one country club was no Jews allowed. (I don't think there were enough people of color to warrant a sign saying they couldn't join either.)

I spent a year in Minneapolis, and while there were things I liked about it, that was WAAAY different than New York, or Seattle.

Well, I know of a few places. The area I live in is pretty bad like that in fact. Some of my old neighbors didn't want me to so much as walk too close to their lawn as I went back and forth from the bus stop for school and the school system I went to did not have and black people at any level until after I graduated as it is common for anyone of color or different beliefs (non christian) are stuck living on the other side of town and don't come to the nice west side unless it is really necessary. It is common for people to rush to get a job before other minorities as businesses can't look like they are discriminating so they take on one or two token employees.

It seems to be worse in the north in my opinion. Everyone seems to say they are open about it, but as soon as someone wants to have an event or just be themselves, people turn and shun them but won't want to come right out and say anything for fear of seeming ignorant or anything.

Seattle has had a large gay population for a long time, and has always been pretty open about it. Same with San Francisco. But I tend to think of the general SE US as being less open - might be true, might not be. Just my perception, given the way people there vote and what their politicians say.

I was thinking of the fact that 80% of the people living with HIV are men, and presumably either gay or bi - and somehow didn't quite picture TN or KY having a large population of gay/bi men. Or maybe it's a down low kind of thing. Just was not what I would have expected to see.
