Deb, I agree with everything you said but especially the last sentence "I doubt Conda has any idea what a real friend is." A real friend is there for THE FRIEND and from what I can see, it's all about Conda with Conda. People don't always figure out what's going on but even when they do, it may take awhile. I think Conda knows how to exploit the weaknesses we all have, the insecurities, etc - some people are really masterful at that - look at the many famous 'con artists' who seem to know how to exploit others. To me, Conda is in that category! And when you find out details about the con artists' victims, you often learn they were transfixed by the person to the degree they simply IGNORE all signs that don't agree with the image they want to hold of the con artist.

Anyway, whether she SEEMS to have a lot of friends or not, I do not believe Conda knows what 'being a friend' really means.

"Conda may not be as nasty as we all see her as she says she has many friends."

PPPPFFFTTTT!!!! LOL!! Conda also said she won the last immunity challenge and disagreed that Jeremy HANDED it to her! Clearly, her opinions of reality are off-base. I doubt Conda has any idea what a real friend is.

The shows are "scripted" in they edit to help us see things that they want us to see. Conda may not be as nasty as we all see her as she says she has many friends. Still, I'm not fond of her, so who knows. I do know some of the other contestants were "labeled" as the villian and were really nice people.

They have trainers who work with the contestants during the week, they have others to manage food and other things. The show gives us information so we fall "in love with" the trainers and we want to follow them all the time.

I watch because I enjoy seeing what they do (or show us) and how they reach their goals. It helps me see that I can do this as well. Inspiration does not necessarily mean the person is perfect but that they inspire us to be better.

Can't you get such information from an ex contestant blog??? It would be worth investigating if you're that curious.

My husband and I have often discussed this.
Imagine if it were ALL just real. Boring.
They have to get show ratings. I'm sure the contestants sign up to be the bad guy or whatever. I can just image all the behind the scenes we don't see.
I'd love to see just one show where it's all real, just to see what a contestant does from waking to going to bed - like what they eat, if they run or walk before the gym. How many hours they really spend with the trainers etc. Just ONE honest show to satisfy the curiosity.

I always believed that the trainers ran them through a workout, anf the " homework " was other activities that do not need a trainer, like swimming 50 laps, or walking 5 miles, so why would Bob and Dolvet stay.

As far as soup, and Subway, they are loaded with sodium. I have heart problems and so I can't eat these. Since a lot of these contestants are diabetic, or 400 lbs with high BP, they probably couldn't eat them anyways.

SP has ads of non healthy products, because they advertise whoever pays them. I just DVR the show, and skip commercials, whether in the show, or regular. Plus this allows me to FF through the sappy heart-to-heart talks, or the fake " realizations" the contestants have.

I really just watch, the workouts, weigh-ins, and challenges, plus any rewards like makeover week, or last week with Jessica Simpson. The rest is a bunch of fake people weeping for a camera, but that is what is scripted. Biggest Loser is a huge money generator, as are ALL TV shows. Thats why they count ratings, not to provide better shows, but to havevehicles for more advertising dollars.

The idea that they would spend millions to inspire us is just very naive. If advertisers feel they can't make a profit by advertising on BL, they will stop advertising, and the show will end.

I take this "revelation" with a grain of salt. Not knowing the person who said it makes it hard for me to really believe it all. I completely believe that there are staged things, but I can't accept that it is the extent that you wrote. There would be all kinds of legal implications.

Just watch it for what it is--an entertainment!

I thought the responses were pretty nice, but just not the shock value that maybe you wanted.

However, this is a fan site so not to sure what exactly you were wanting back.

I've heard and met a few of the contestants and all that are keeping the weight off have had pretty positive bl experiences. The negative stuff normally is for the people who can't keep the weight off and well that's usually how most people are towards any program that they don't stick with.

I also feel that after watching it for 11 + seasons, if you apply to go onto the show you should know that what you are signing up for. I went to an audition and they are brutally honest.

I agree with Lynda, I take what I find useful and throw out the rest. The season a lot is being thrown out (kind of like how I'd like to throw out Bob's socks and tights or whatever they are LOL). I get more out of watching past seasons on Netflix right now. But I do still find them inspirational in a lot of ways, except not so much this season. I know what we see on tv, even on reality shows, is not really real. I really don't care if they eat Subway or not. I eat it sometimes because I can get a healthy fast food meal than a lot of other places, and love the Sweet Onion Teriyaki sandwhich which is low in fat and a reasonable amount of calories. But I don't do it often. I chew Extra gum sometimes and was chewing it before they started advertising it because as far as gum goes I like some of the flavors. I chew gum when I do a lot of walking or hiking because my mouth is constantly dry, even with drinking water. It doesn't really help my sugar cravings though but I use it for other purposes. But they have to generate income somehow to sponsor the show and at least some of this is better than McDonald's or a beer commercial as a sponsor. But anything we see on tv, including the reality and even the news, is not necessarily the whole story. With that in mind it's entertainment that I like better than a lot of what else is on tv (except my other favorites The Voice and Dancing With The Stars which also probably have their own secrets).
Some of them have kept their weight off and some have gained it all back. If it helped some make lifestyle changes then that's great. Nothing works 100% as we've all heard stories of people with gastric bypass or known people who had it and either didn't lose much or lost and regained. I remember seeing Vicky on one follow up show and she had gained a little weight back and was up to 150 I think, which she said she felt better at than the low weight she got to for the finale. 150 is still so much better than where she was, and if I can get to 150 it will put me at the top range of a healthy BMI.
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.

Diane, if you really think about it, I doubt the shots of them eating at Subway are taken in one shot. They probably have to do it over and over and over again. I think that is true for any food ad, which to me those times that show them eating are ads not reality. From my understanding of commercials, many takes are done and so rather forcing someone to continually eat or drink something, they just have the person keep spitting the food item out. I just always assumed they probably do the same thing on BL and never figured they actually ate the meal.

I think it's obvious that the editing is manipulated. Once there was a big uproar over Conda she's been all but removed from the show. They hardly showed her the last 2 weeks.
That's interesting about the Subway ads. I had heard that before about the trainers. I think they only workout with them a couple of times a week.

I agree with the mroe recent posters - I take from it what I can and leave the rest - I enjoy watching the show but don't think it's a 100% match between what we see on the screen and what 'really' goes on behind the scenes. But so what? When I see a person who is a lot heavier than I am being able to run on the treadmill, even for 10 seconds, it gives me hope and inspiration that I can do more than I think I can - when I hear scandals or stories or whatever, I know it might be true and it might not - the person who gave you all the inside info may be 100% truthful or may be 'full of it' - I have no way of knowing and don't really care.

This season has not been as inspirational as most others for me - so I'm hoping that next season gets back to that aspect. If not, then bye-bye! I have watched other shows for a time and then quit watching for whatever reason. That is true for fiction, 'reality' shows, non-fiction and all sorts of other things - I go on 'binges' where I want to watch documentaries and then periods where I don't watch any, etc. Right now I watch BL - later I might not. I've watched other 'weight-loss' oriented shows and some have held my interest for awhile, others have not - I also like to read 'inspirational' stories about people overcoming their personal challenges or personal 'demons' because it makes me have the confidence that if they can do that, I can deal with my challenges, too.

Anyway, sorry if you are disillusioned by it - guess I grew up seeing celebrities and famous people 'up close and personal' often enough to realize they all get pimples, burp, fart, act ugly or whatever might be in contrast to their 'image' - same thing for politicians as well as actors, singers and so forth - so I never did really 'believe' what I see on TV is 100% true, even the news shows.

Well put SUNNYARIZONA! I agree, I don't care about the behind the scenes stuff and I know that what they show in the 2 hours each week is nothing like what an actual week is like for them on the show. But I do like seeing these people overcome their personal challenges and lose weight and get healthy. And I feel bad when some go back to their old lifestyles after leaving the show, but for the many who continue to be healthy, even if they gain some back, I'm happy to hear that they live a happier and healthier life. That's why I watch this show. At least it has a purpose unlike most of the junk reality shows, like Jersey Shore.

My husband calls Reality TV scripted tv because they have 'writers', producers, etc., just like all the other shows. I know they edit and push certain scenarios for the 'dramatic' effect. I've known that they stick with a "formula" pretty much. For BL, I watch for the inspiration and training advice. I know they have to make money, so I know that Subway, the gum and the soup being pushed is for commercial purposes. My problem with this season is that I'm finding very little inspiration, and there really isn't anyone I'm rooting for.

Life is what you make it. Why not choose to be happy?

It's a REALITY SHOW for goodness sake....do you actually believe other Reality shows are for REAL?! A BIG reason I don't want any of them!!! BUT the BL is different....

I don't really care to know about all that "behind the scenes" garbage, as the show remains inspirational for me. I mean, people really DO lose weight!

If they have to do workout alot on their own time, that is a GOOD thing , not a bad thing.....I for one, NEVER thought the contestants and the trainers were working out together CONSTANTLY....they don't pay those guys enough for that!!!!

Don't give up on BL, GLEAN from it....for me....I glean....PERSERVERANCE in the face of major challenges.... I glean, HOPE , that if they can do it, maybe I can too!!! BTW, they have done shows on that very thing....MILLIONS of Americans and around the world ARE very inspired to get off their bums and lose the weight.

I'm not surprised either. I, too, have read about former contestants doing all sorts of crazy things before weigh in and especially before the finale. No "reality" show is real. If you look closely at the credits of most reality shows, it says something to the effect that the producers have a say in the outcome. I watch Project Runway faithfully and I can tell you that the best designers aren't necessarily the ones that make it to the finale, but the ones that make the best TV do. And all reality shows are that way. Why do you think Conda is still there? And why Icky Vicky and Heba made it so far? They were the contestants that people love to hate and will tune in to see if they get kicked off. I enjoy watching the transformations which is why I watch the show. And Bob and Dolvett are nice eye candy. emoticon

Umm, if this shocked you to learn all this, then I'm sorry to tell you that no reality show out this is actually real. They fabricate a lot of stories, they edit things to appear on way when actually something completely different happened. And I know all tjhe food promos is for the show to get money. It's so obvious when they show one of the trainers talking about chewing gum or having healthy choice soup for a meal, that it's because those food companies give lots of money to the show to promote the. And if the contestants eat the food or not, I could care less. I don't pay attention to the commercials during the show. And I've always known that the trainers aren't there 24/7, that a lot of it is the contestants working out on their own, which I thinks is a good thing. If you only did all this stuff with a trainer, than you'd be completely loss when you go home. But no one wants to watch the contestants just working out in the gym on their own. People want to see the trainers there with them, yelling at them and stuff. That's why they just show those few moments on the actual show. You really haven't told me anything I don't know or that I'm surprised to hear. I've known this every since MTV came out with Real World. It's a lot of "fluff" to get people interested in watching. I don't watch for all that , I watch because I like seeing the transformations and to root for people.

I hate to be cynical, etc., but none of what you are saying comes as a surprise to me. I only watch the show because it's like a train wreck, I can't take my eyes off. Every since the second (or third) season after Jillian blasted out one of the players for taking weight loss supplements and then turned around a season later and started selling her own line of weight loss supplements, I have known it was all about ratings and money.

The really truly unfortunate thing is what these people do to themselves in order to try to be the "biggest loser". You can find report after report of them doing questionable things like dehydrating themselves, eating asparagus (a natural diuretic), etc before the final so that they have virtually no water weight on them when they weigh. It's a wonder that there has never been a case of kidney failure. it's really unfortunate.

I have been watching the show for years! I love the show and it is very inspiring!! Every season there would be certain episodes that will bring me to tears! I am heart broken over the truth. I work with someone who is related to someone on the show. Eating Subway is a lie, they spit it out (it is only for the show......FALSE ADVERTISING!), any restaurant they go to - they do not eat anything and the workouts are with their trainers only for taping of the show. They workout on their own. The TRAINERS want them to participate in temptation challenges so their team can win. Then when the when the show airs - act like they are upset that someone would participate. There is many more lies - but I can't say.... I've probably said too much already.......
I know TV shows edits and tapes for ratings, I just thought the BL was different! I am very disappointed!
The show will not be the same!!!!!!
