Thanks, everyone. Rupert is going back to the vet today for a follow up. No one likes having stuff put in their eyes, but Rupert has quickly learned medicine = treat, so he's "coping." Little fart cracks me up. I'll let you all know how the vet goes.

Never give up.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, he was on Atropine until Saturday. The pupil is a little smaller today. We go back for a follow-up later, so fingers crossed.

Never give up.

i have dealt with a scratched eye with my horse. i think one of the things your Rupert is on for his eye if you are putting it in his eye for pain could be one that will dilate the pupils. is atropine one of the meds? if so this is to dilate the pupil as pain in the eye will constrict the pupil and this atropine helps with the pain and dilates the pupil. using the antibiotic helps with the scratch. i can't tell you how many scratched eyes i have dealt with on my horses. have patience and keep an eye on his eye and watch for excessive tearing with his eye. it will get better and i think the dilated pupil is due to the pain med. hope this helps and please keep me posted on how Rupert is doing.

Rupert I a beautiful dog. Don't beat yourself up. He could have done it to himself. When Mutt's ear swelled up the vet said he had broken a blood vessel in his ear. When I asked how that could happen she said it could be anything from shaking his head and the ear banging against the coffee table to an accident when he was playing with the other dog. Willing to bet Rupert's boo boo is the same type of thing. Just take care of him and make his as comfortable as posable.

My sweet baby, Rupert (chihuahua), scratched his cornea last weekend. He's being treated with pain meds and antibiotics, but his pupil is enormous. I'm really worried he may lose the sight in that eye. Worst part is that I have no idea how it happened. Feel like a terrible dog mom. (Photo of Rupert before his eye issue. Just want you all to see his wonderful face.)

Never give up.
