Do you mean Fifth Avenue, by Christopher Smith? I downloaded a sample of it, and it looks good, but it's 99 cents. Which is a good price, I'll admit, but not free, so I'm wondering if it's the same one you're talking about.

I tried the Power of Now but I did not like it at all. My daughter recommended a couple of books. Power of Now being one of them. I have one more book she wants me to read but I have my doubts about that one too. What do I say to her? She loved the books.

I love Dean Koontz. This book is really scary. I first downloaded the Novella, "Darkness Under the Sun", which is a prequel to this book to see if I would like it. The novella was a very quick read and was only $1.53 on Amazon.

My favorite Dean Koontz books are "Lightning" - a book about time travel, and "Watchers" about two amazing dogs.

I got Sherlockian out from the library. There was quite a long waiting list for it. I am the odd one that doesn`t like the book. I was ready to return it the next day. I`m going to try The Power of Now.

I'm re-reading The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer, one of my favorite authors. She writes in the Regency-era genre, a lot like Jane Austen.

I'd like to find an annotated version of Tale of Two Cities. I read an annotated version of Pride and Prejudice once, and it was helpful in explaining terms being used. Language has changed so much that sometimes the meaning of what the classic authors were saying escapes us. (At least, it escapes me). For instance, when Juliet cried "Wherefore art thou, Romeo?" she wasn't saying where are you, Romeo, she was saying "why are you Romeo?"

Has anyone read any Shakespeare, by the way? It's on my bucket list.

I have never read Tale of Two Cities... I feel like it is one I should though.

I just finished A Dog Named Slugger by Leigh Brill. Very touching and a tear jerker. If you read like Marley and Me it is along the same lines and is about the author and her dog Slugger. She has CP and Slugger is her service dog.

Right now I just began Such Good Boys: The True Story of a Mother, Two Sons and a Horrifying Murder.. It is a true story by Tina Dirmann.

I think this will be along the lines of "The Lost Boy, A Child Called It and A Man Named Dave." - I highly recommend these books - but warning they are very sad and true.

I just finished reading "The Potluck Club." It was a free book on Kindle that I happened to find, and I just loved it! It was about a group of women who meet once a month for potluck and prayer. I didn't think I would like it, but I started reading it, and couldn't put it down. All the women have stories, but the one that gripped me the most was a woman who had fallen in love with a man who was drafted to Viet Nam. So they got married the weekend before he left, and she got pregnant that weekend. Her mother and father were appalled when she told him she had married a Mexican, and they made her leave their home, so she lived with her husband's family. When she was nine months pregnant, the army came and told her he had been killed, and she went into shock and had the baby after four days. When she came to, her mother was there and told her the baby had died and took her home with her. Her mother convinced her not to tell anyone about it, and eventually she married another man, but she never forgot him. Then, 30 years later, she finds out her son had not died - her mother had found a way to give the baby away for adoption and she finally gets to meet her son.

I just finished reading this, and now I don't know what to do!

I'm reading The Host by Stephanie Meyer, who wrote The Twilight series. It's way different from that - no vampires - but very gripping also, once you get past the first couple of chapters, which are kind of confusing.

Almost done with "Pathfinder" by Orson Scott Card.

It's easy to lose track of time when I'm reading and have had to make a deal with myself. No reading until after my morning workout. It's been working so far.

I love the classics. I just downloaded 6 Anthony Trollope books free -- all came together in one book. Something like 63000 (not pages, but length). Only problem is that you can't tell where you are in a book, or how close to the end of that book. They are in order of when he wrote them.
I did the same thing with Jan Austen. Both have table of contents to make it easy to skip to the book you want.

Never give up...JUST DO IT!

I am still reading the Dresden files by Jim Butcher and am almost done with the series. I have also been reading J.D. Robb’s in death series. I would like to read the latest in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. I bought it but have not had time to read it yet.

I also downloaded a lot of the classics but have not started any of them yet. I would love to read some of them but we shall see if I get time. 8)

"Greyhound" It's really good. It is a story about a 11 year old boy who is put on a greyhound bus by his neglectful mother to travel from Stockton, CA to Altoona, PA to live with his grandmother. He goes threw so much stuff and meets some really interesting characters. I'm a little over halfway done with it.

Welcome DEBBIERNDDHC! I hope you like The Lodger as much as I did. emoticon

I am currently reading Tender Graces by Kathryn Magendie. It is really good so far, though heartbreaking. It is the most current book I have read in a while. I have been devouring the classics lately and simply loving them.

Jane Eyre
Wuthering Heights
Great Expectations
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Anna Karina

have been my favorites so far--they just don't make literature like they use to, LOL!!

Hi there all! I am new here. I had to say, i downloaded the Lodger, so i can't wait to see if its any good. I have had my kindle a few months. I love it so much, i bought or rather ordered the new one and am selling the old one (3 months isnt really old is it?) to a co-worker. She is getting a good deal... i didnt pay full price for it either, i got it off Ebay from someone who loved it so much they ordered a DX. so i see nothing but good stuff there. I cant wait for the new one to come in! i am reading two books right now, Calling Home, which so far has been interesting but a wee bit crude, and just finished Forever More, a great story, i stayed up till midnight reading. I also have the free Alice in Wonderland that i have read again. going to read the Lodger soon. I was able to do 20 minutes on treadmill with bum knees today, so i am tickled pink!
