the 100 calorie bags of microwavable popcorn - kettle corn flavor gives me a little sweet and not alot of calories. usually split the bag with a coworker during the day so really its only 50 calories. it helps.

SLM0305 -- your fruit creation sounds yummy. You can also put your yogurt in the freezer for a little while and it's almost like having soft serve ice cream! Granola, nuts,or chopped fruits are great with it too.

If the journey was easy I wouldn't appreciate the benefits I reap.

Loving all of these 'variations' on calming the old sweet tooth after a meal! I've been enjoying a 1 + cup (depending on the types) of seasonal fresh fruits with cinnamon and freshly ground nutmeg (a new HUGE fav), container of Light Activia yogurt and a sprinkle of LF granola (1 Tbsp) for crunch in the evening emoticon

I made a mini trifle this weekend with one piece of angelfood cake (70 calories), one cup of fat free pudding (60 calories), one cup of raspberries (50 calories) and a tablespoon of Free Cool Whip for a total of 180 calories for a HUGE dessert. Yummmm!!! I didn't feel the least cheated while everyone else celebrated with icecream and cake on the 4th.

It's true, we're all a work in progress!

I tracked my food to the calorie on Saturday - even had a couple hundred left over. Then Hubby made a yummy, healthy, salad for dinner, apple and walnuts with Romaine.

I made sure he used the right amount of oil and vinegar so my calorie allowance wouldn't be exceeded. Didn't even think about the walnuts.

Let me tell you, they may be good for you, but they pack a calorie punch! I ended up with 1/2 cup and 400 calories, putting me over by 200 calories at the end of the day, even after all my careful planning. I was so totally bummed.

It's the little things that will creep in and knock us for a loop! But, Lee, you are right, live and learn and tomorrow is a brand new day!

Lee,
I've come to the realization that we make responsible and irresponsible choices. The key to
being successful is to not beat yourself up over it and to learn from it. The fact that you tracked your foods is awesome and acknowledging that you have to be more responsible in your choices for the rest of the day is definitely in the right direction. Beating yourself up won't help.

If the journey was easy I wouldn't appreciate the benefits I reap.

Well today I screwed up and got up late, and had breakfast at lunch timme, That was Ok, I counted the calories, For a snack I had 2 cups of cold watermelon. BUT we are going out soon to a meeting and don't have time for dinner before we go, and I ate a whole bar of dark chocolate, but I did add the calories to my tracking, and I still have over 400-500 left for the day, so I will eat very carefully when I get back home. I did lose 1 lb this morning, so I should be good. I just felt bad about eating the chocolate. With a bit of luck I can still be within my calorie allowance, as the chocolate counted as lunch. ( stupid eh )

Watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew and grapes -- are satisfying, individually or as a mini fruit salad.

Boy-oh-boy can I relate!!! Trying to keep from giving in to my craving sweets after meals is my major challenge. I make a cup of green tea and if that doesn't do it I will have one tablespoon fat free smooth or crunchy peanut butter on a spoon and between sips of tea I nibble on the peanut butter. At other times a small piece of dark chocolate. I purchase a bar that has 15 sections with each at 10 grams or 57 calories. emoticon I am a work in progress!!! Best wishes.

Hi, yes we do have a Woodmans, thank you so very much.
I love Woodmans, they have such a wonderful variety of everything, but they are always so busy no matter what time or what day you go, and it takes forever to get out of there. But I still think it is worth it. Thank you again, I will tell my daughter she does the shopping. God Bless you, Lee

I like having a popsicle. Something I can share with my 8-year-old.

I also like Healthy Choice Complete Meals. It has just enough dessert to satisfy.

I want to get to a healthy weight and stay there forever. I don't have to make huge changes all at once, just small ones consistently.

Hi, I think the biggest difference is in the texture..very thick..but also it is not as sour tasting. It is the only yogurt I can stand without it being sweetened, but I have also put a packet of stevia in too.

I had forgotten about angel food cake until I saw an article about sweets on the website. You can get quite a hunk (30 grams) for relatively few calories. Pair it with seasonal fruit (I just did honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries, blueberries, and fresh pineapple mixed together for a fruit salad), and you have a great dessert for 150 calories or less. If you want to be really decadent, add a dollop of Cool Whip Free on top. You are still getting quite a dessert for less than 200 calories, along with a fruit serving to go with it. Of course, there are lots of fresh fruits and berries in the market right now for a great price, and they are soooo good!

Hi LadyLee. I love the texture, which is creamier. I get the non fat, which has very few calories, but really does fill you up. You can use it like a custard dessert..( I use stevia) and stewed fresh fruit. I put about a TB of home made granola on top. Great for breakfast or lunch..or a good snack. It is not as sour tasting, as regular yogurt. I buy it at my Big Y or Stop and Shop. It is more expensive, but I have so few things I feel good about eating, it is worth the price to me. I spent about 4.50 for a quart..which is about the same for Stoney Creek. Give it a try, by getting a small container first.
Oh..also..add some dash..any flavors and use to dip veggies.

I keep home made fudge, loaded with dried fruit and nuts on hand (one piece has less than 50 calories, and just knowing it's there somehow makes it all better (:) I also make fruit pops with fresh fruit, almond milk and chocolate chips that have about 65 calories. But what I usually have because I can stretch it out over most of the evening is a protein shake made with almond milk. (I like the Biggest Loser protein) When that is stick blended with ice it is creamy and frosty and takes a while to finish.

oh I wish I could just eat one Hersery Kiss:-) What saved my day yeterday, was eating a chocolate rice cake. It gave me the sweetness I was craving, the chocolate, but also the crunch. I keep a bag just for those moments.

I make a banana smoothie with one small banana, one cup skim milk, 2 packets of artificial sweetner, few drops of vanilla flavoring, and 3 ice cubes. Liquesfy in a blender. Tastes just like a milk shake.

I did have low fat Edy's icecream last night. I have been off all sugary treats for a month and lost five lbs. Not easy in a camp kitchen, making cookies or cakes all the time. I usually can take care of my sweet tooth by having strawberries with a dab of chocolate syrup and then non fat whipped cream. Also, those fantastic little cups of yogurt with probiotics..with fruit and topped with a little crunchy cereal is yummy too.

After dinner I always have "dessert". I mix 3/4 cup of high fiber cereal into a Yoplait fat-free yogurt.(they have amazing flavors!) It's sweet, crunchy and very satisfying. I get my calcium and fiber and quiet the "sweet tooth" monster!!!

I honestly find that making myself a "milkshake" as a dessert (medifast protein shake with lots of ice in the blender) both satisfies and zaps sweets cravings...plus I get a whole bunch of protein and fiber in only 90 calories!

You all must be better at this than me. I'm really not a big sweets person, but when I crave them, I know that if I have a little something I can avert the big binge.

The better mt diet is balanced the less I crave the old foods (chips, sweets, etc.), unless it is an emotional binge trying to happen, I'm still working on dealing with those.

I agree that some foods are trigger foods, in that if I eat one, I will want the whole package, recipe, whatever... Rice Krispie treats are one such item. Although one treat would be a decent snack (one per day, perhaps?), I can't seem to stop at one.

Like others, I have found that if I check on my meals and snacks, I am lacking that 5 per day (or more) of vegetables/fruit when I am at my worst for those cravings, which lead to binges. It is one thing to want to sample something, which usually happens when I am on top of my game, and wanting to dive face first into something, which usually occurs when I have not been getting enough of the good stuff.

I find that for me sweets lead to craving more sweets. If I don't eat any for a couple of days the cravings are gone. I have been eating fresh blueberries and strawberries with cheerios for my breakfast each morning and that seems to work for me also.

Finally had one of the frozen fruit pops I made last weekend - they are really good! The chocolate chips don't grind down to nothing, so there is a bit of chocolate taste and the almond liquor did keep the pops from freezing rock hard, so they were easy to eat, without being drippy. This was an experiment that I'd rate a success!

Well, from the posts, it's obvious that one isn't alone on this topic! Most of the things I use/do have already been mentioned, but I'd really like to get to where I don't have that funky little "I need something sweet" craving. I strongly believe it's habit, and currently I'm not ready to give it up. I need to work on that.

I wash and chop 6 strawberries and mix with 1/2 cup of Yoplait 0% Source with splenda, strawberry or vanilla flavour.
It tastes great, my mom who is 74 told me that she liked it better than strawberry shortcake. I have a sweet tooth too. the yopait is 35 calories and the strawberries are maybe 30 I'm guessing. Tastes like you should feel guilty but it's not!!!

I'll do the math again for the calorie and nutrient info and post it on the recipe site, I'll let you know when I get it there. Lots of folks are asking for it and it really is satisfying, really easy to make and less the 50 calories a piece.

Haven't read the whole topic yet, but decided to try frozen hot chocolate for my after-dinner treat tonight. I just made hot chocolate with a 25 calorie pack of hot chocolate mix, about 3 oz. of water and about 3 oz. of 1% milk. After it cools a little, I'll put it in the freezer until after dinner.

As I figure it all up, that ends up being about 62 calories and I can even add a dollop of Cool Whip Lite to it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I made some fruit pops this weekend that are really good. I stick blended 3 cups of sliced strawberries, a medium banana, 1/4 cup of chocolate chips, 1 cup of almond milk, juice of one lemon, 1/4 cup of almond liquor, and 2 tablespoons of splenda. Divided into 12 pops they are 65 calories each. If you chose not to use the chocolate, or the liquor (I used it to keep the pops from freezing so hard)the pops would come in at 35 calories each!

I agree with RAFTER3P - brush your teeth after meals. You can also chew some peppermint gum. After I quit smoking, I turned in my after dinner cigarette for ice cream. I just needed something to signal that my meal was over. Ice cream is better than a cigarette, but 30 pounds later I need to start working on the ice cream now!

I make home made fudge that is packed with dried fruit and nuts, I cut it in very small pieces (1x1) and that takes care of my chocolate cravings (at about 45 calories). I know how many calories the whole batch has and that keeps me from over eating! lol. I'll have a piece every couple of days, but just knowing it's there in the fridge is soothing.

The other thing I do in the evenings is have two cups of almond milk blended with ice. It's really cold and kind of thick so it takes a while to drink. While I'm having that, my husband will have the frozen treat he can't live without and we are both happy with neither one of us feeling like we've sacrificed anything. The high protein in the almond milk is incredibly satisfying so I'm set for the evening plus I'm getting more fluids, which I think contributes to the satisfied feeling.

hugs

I have low thyroid function, which makes me feel pooped a lot of the time, which in turn makes me want to reach for carbs galore! I have found that my worse days for craving sweets are those days when I am extremely fatigued. Since I have begun SparkPeople, my go-to's include granola bars, sliced fruit, 100-calorie packs of popcorn or almonds, and yogurt.

My favorite dessert-type snack, at the moment, is Edy's Slow Churned, Sugar Free, ice cream. To make the 1/2 cup serving go farther, I take 1/2 cup frozen fruit--strawberries and sweet cherries are two of my favorites--and pulverize it in a mini food processor. I pour the fruit over the ice cream to make a decadent sundae. The whole thing comes to about 125 calories and contains a serving of fruit as a bonus. Since everything is frozen, I have to savor each bite or face having a case of brain freeze.

I understand that some people want to avoid sugar, while others are trying to avoid sugar substitutes. I figure that if I use each in moderation, I won't have too much of either one.

Oh joy -- sweet stuff -- not much -- just a little bit. But, am lactose intolerant and have to do the gluten-free. So that limits me -- I'll have to get in the groove with some of your fruit suggestions. Sometimes a lot of things just don't appeal to me. I think I'll make some meringues -- that might do it. Will let you know.

oh, yes, sounds so familiar!
I've had that terrible habit for years, and I would not stop at "handful" of treats, I'd eat up the whole package.
at first, I replaced my chokolate treats with cereal bars - like Kashi cherry-dark chokolate - they taste great, and unlike sweets they actually have some nutrition))
But eventually as I became more mindful about WHY I eat, I realised that I don't really want a dessert, I'm just used to having it. And often I would take out that bar and put it next to my cup of coffee, to not feel deprived, but after several sips of coffee I would feel that I am satisfied already, and I put that bar back in the box for a day I will actually want it.
Another great thing to do: I put vanilla almond (or soy) milk in my coffee - it has fewer calories than milk, and it is a little sweet so coffee tastes like from a coffee shop - a dessert all by itself!

I've learned that Clif Mojo bars work great for me. They are a combination of salty and sweet. If I want peanut butter, I have the peanut butter pretzel. And if I want some chocolate, I have the mountain mix.

1 square of really good dark chocolate (most American versions aren't that great) eaten slowly can calm cravings for me - especially if I've had a satisfying meal - or a complex tasting berry like blackberries - anything with a sweet, rich, full flavor...

For me, great flavor means I need less, especially if I'm already full.

Try meringue cookies. There's a recipe for chocolate meringue cookies at myrecipes.com and Whole Foods sells them in chocolate, lemon, dulce de leche and vanilla flavors--only 7 calories per cookie. Also hard candy is helpful--jolly rogers or starbright mints. They last a long time if you just let them melt in your mouth and don't chew.
