Hello All,

I currently am not doing much exercise because of the weather. The room where my recumbent bike is is too hot for me to work in right now. I have been doing some other exercises though. I have a small AC that I am putting in that room so as soon as I do I will be able to do my bike again.

Best wishes to all..

1200-1550. I agree- it helps to swing around the range and not try to stay too close to the bottom - especially if you are exercising.

Hello All,

I am new to this team and have not participated a lot since I joined it. But I am here now and would like to see if I can stay posting on a daily basis or there about.

I am on a 1200-1550 calorie range and am usually on the high end by the end of the day. I have had some that where on the low end but I don't think I did as well. So for now I will stay where I feel the best.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Best wishes to all.

because of the range - 1200- 1500, if I go over one day, I'll hug the bottom the next day. I seem to do better with weight loss when I'm not at one spot - say 1300, everyday.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one doing better (although slowly as well) not hugging the bottom of the calorie recommendations.

Nothing's gonna stop me now.

I agree - If I stay in the high middle of my calories and eat a balanced diet I've noticed I'm not as tired throughout the day as I used to be and I'm still (slowly) losing weight.

SP recommends 1300-1650, I had been trying to stay on low end....but it seems at the high end I can get the carbs, etc., in and weight loss seems a bit better.

First off, it really is counter productive to go below 1200 calories. Your body will think it is starving and will hang on to any reserves you have. I have heard that it takes 1500 calories just to maintain your body on a daily basis.

I have noticed something weird, don't know what the science is behind it, if any. If I'm on a plateau and eat a high calorie meal, then go back to my regular diet, it seems to knock me off of the plateau, and I start losing again.

I'm still a long way from my goal, I think the closer you get to goal, the more you have to tweak your diet and exercise to wring that last spark of fitness and health.

My spark range is 1200-1550 and I generally stay there, but I am so much more active than when I started. I have been at a plateau for the better part of a year and am very close to goal. I have attempted to reset my goals, therefore my calorie range, but the system seems to bring me right back to the original range. After all this time being stuck, upping my calories may get the scale moving again. Can anybody tell me exactly what to do to reset my goals and make the calorie range change?

Exercising along with staying around 1850 works for me, to slowly lose. I'm on the Slowest User team. Slow works for me too!

Thanks for the info on how to calculate calorie range. Interestingly enough mine ended up spot on in the middle of my spark range. I liked the confirmation that what I'm working on is a good range. On slow weeks like this one it is tempting to cut things in half, which I know is the wrong thing to do, but tempting, non the less.

I just use what SP set me at because it seems to work for me. I am in the 1500 - 1900 range for calories, if I stay somewhere in the middle area of those I tend to do well as long as I am exercising.

I was told by a dietician to multiply my target weight (150) by 12 calories per pound to calculate my daily goal of 1800 calories for slow weight loss. 12 calories per pound is for people who are fairly active - walking, swimming, cycling for 30 min. three times a week.
I exercise more than 3 days per week but try to stay under the 1800 cal/day in an effort to lose a little more that a pound a week.
There is a formula that is called the Mifflin formula that takes into account height, activity, and age. You can Google it. For me, the calorie count was very close to 1800.

I'm at 1200 - 1550, too. I have always dieted on a 1200 calorie goal, and have not been that successful; being able to raise it that few hundred calories seems to have done the trick for me. I'd say I average around 1350-1450 and very seldom go over. Sometimes I have to really work at getting to the 1200.

I have learned that if I don't eat enough I will not lose weight. It is so counterintuitive, but I have proof right before my eyes so I am learning to accept what I've been told for years.

GODFEARINGGIRL, if you do A LOT of exercise and record it, SP will up your calories to keep you fueled. Burning off tooo many calories without replacing some of them will slow weight loss. That's probably why you have a higher range.

Interesting to see our different reasons for choosing calorie goals. I can see how if you can't get in the fitness part you would really have to cut back on calories. I'm pretty tall (5' 8") and I'm not trying to lose that much weight right now. If I can manage 1 pound loss every 2 weeks (that's how often I weigh myself), I'll be happy. If I stick with my plan, I should. My problem is sneaking in more calories than I'm counting. I'm really working on being more accurate about recording things so I truly stay in my range.

SP has me at 1450-1800 or so (keeps changing) because I work out a lot.
But I met with a nutritionist in June (see my June 9th blog for her ideas) and she wants me to do 1200-1400 six days a week with one 'diet day off' (without going crazy).
I could manage it but I started having daily headaches so increased my lowest days to 1400.
I have not found my sweet spot yet- been plateaued for many many months.

I keep mine set at the place(s) you saw in my post, and I am concentrating on slow loss. I'm a member of the Slowest Loser Spark Team and really believe in this focus.

Right now I'm just maintaining since I can't do any form of movement. Thus, my calorie level is low.

Mine used to be 1250-1550. And I really found that great.

But I had a tumble down a set of stairs two weeks ago and can no longer walk ... for now ... and won't be able to for many, many weeks. So, obviously, I can't go to the gym anymore either.

So I dropped my calorie range to 1150-1350. I could have simply tried to cut back or do it in my head, but I changed the range and it automatically tells me how much protein/carb/fats I need. So helpful.

Mine is 1,400 - 1,850. I was just plain hungry and going way over my calorie max when I had it set lower. Now I am consistently coming in under 1,900 calories. I'm in the Slowest Loser team, so I'm not in a hurry to lose the weight. I just want it to come off. When I set the upper limit to under 1,800 calories, I would eat things I didn't enter into my tracker, on the spur of the moment and quickly forgotten. I was going up in weight, not down. So I increased my upper limit to something I thought I could do. I've been consistent at sticking close to the 1,850 limit, slightly over and slightly under, but hovering right around there. With my new exercise routine becoming a habit (Thank You 28-Day Challenge for getting me back in the habit!), I think this will work. I lost 2 of the 3 pounds I regained so far.

How do you decide on your calorie range? Do you use SP recommendations? Lower? or like me, Higher?
