Spring time in WI has brought a lot of functional fitness for me and I am proud to know that I have more strength to deal with the construction project (helping a relative) and the tree planting we've been doing. As we work toward our health and fitness, sometimes (often) we forget it's not just about looking better or the number on the scale but more about being fit to live an active life. I'm not saying I didn't feel every one of my 65 years when we came home from the building project, but feeling my biceps and triceps, just reminded me what living this spark life has done for me. Not bad for an old lady! LOL

Angel looks like a bit of a mix...the face looks bullish and the color almost looks like a springer. She keeps you honest when it comes to the walks after work eh? Good for her!

Oh Lordy! Thanks to the request for a shout out, I discovered its been months since I've visited this team. Sorry bout that. I think a lot of us who have been on SP for a long time, get linked into a certain routine and on the teams that are less active we drift off into space.

Anyway I thank you for the reminder.

I too a still in the healthy range but gained back some of my loss and I'm not comfortable with that. Recently I decided (since the weather is finally getting better) I need to run again.

The holidays are upon us and I wish everyone good health and happiness in this time of celebration whether you celebrate Christmas or any other holiday. It's a time to consider your blessings, family and friends and to reflect on the past year as we approach a new year with the chance to improve and build on the progress we've already made. Forgive ourselves for any lapses and congratulate ourselves for our successes.

Best Wishes!

Welcome back....what's been happening in these last 3 years?

I've been here all this time but have been treading water so to speak for quite some time, some good habits have remained solid but some bad are still causing some issues for me. I haven't gained a lot of my weight back though I did gain some and have just maintained at a certain level now for at least 2-3 years...I think I'm working at it but I know I'm phoning it in a lot of the time. But....and this is important...this is my life and I won't go back to the way things used to be.

Well, here we are folks...6 years to the day of when this team was first formed.

I Wonder...........

Are we all still Sparking away?

Have we changed in these 6 years?....I don't just mean our weight, our bodies, our fitness....but so many other ways. (my relationship with food is totally changed, my inner chubby little sister is all grown up and gone, she still struggles with body image but she doesn't buy what had been told to her as a child)

And....Do we have significant goals and plans for the future?

I wish you all well and if you have a chance, I hope you'll stop by and let us know what you're up to.

Spark On!

Got 50 bonus points for the team today and it goosed me into coming and making a post. So...an update is in order. No, haven't lost weight, haven't gained so....went kayaking on a windy day the other day and boy did I work! good for me. Meeting or exceeding my step goal (17K) most days with only a rare slight miss, the average is still over the goal. A healthcare insurance computer snafu had me stressed but that is supposed to be fully solved today...waiting for a phone call. Other than that, taking a little trip and very happy for the distraction.

Positive thoughts sent to all of you!

nearly two full weeks since my last post...have I changed things significantly? Well, I got a kayak and nearly every day have added anywhere from a 1/2 hour to an hour and a 1/2 of paddling...I not only can feel it in my arms shoulders and even torso, but I can see those biceps and triceps muscles more defined. I still don't like to do standard weight training but this is FUN! so it's the best way to add some strength training and balance with all the leg work that my walking/running provide. I'm blogging again a bit more...when I was doing my best here, I was blogging and I think it helps me to focus my efforts and causes me to evaluate what I'm doing and why. So, changes are being made...not enough yet but it's a work in progress!

Hmmmm....again, been a long time since I checked in here. What have I been doing?

No progress on the scale but no backsliding either so that's one thing....I think if I REALLY want to make change, I need to change some things...like making ST a part of my fitness...yeah, I know I've said this before and I have not truly made it happen...ah..perhaps that''s why the scale hasn't truly happened either!

Be strong my friends!

OMG! Has it really been this long since I've posted on this team?

So what has been happening so far this year?

Currently I have been working very hard on my fitbit step counts...I challenged myself to run at least a mile every day and I increased my step goal and can happily say it has not only been met but exceeded. Recently, when fitbit introduced a tile to encourage at least 250 steps per hour, I have enthusiastically jumped on that challenge since I have had a bad habit of too much sitting time...of course this is partly why I haven't been posting as much...less keyboard time.

My great nephew had another set back with his health, the surgery he had for the cancer set him up for some stomach problems. Anyway, last month, he suddenly had a big problem, his whole stomach had twisted over on itself and it died and ruptured. More big surgery, sepsis, and he just got out of ICU the other day. Poor little guy will have spent the better part of two years in the hospital by the time he turns 5. sigh.

Another month nearly gone...for that matter, another year. Not where I totally want to be but I didn't lose ground either so I am calling 2015 a success. Thinking about 2016...not to make resolutions but to find ways to optimize those things I do toward my goals. It's a constant isn't it?

LOL rain here, dry there, cold, warm, wouldn't it be nice if we could wave a wand and even it all out? LOL

If we could find that magic wand we would probably be waving over our bodies though or the scale. LOL

I did solve the murder, even caught on before the detective got it all figured out...LOL did the same thing last night. We had gone to town in the afternoon to get a new powerhead for the central vac...checked out 3 different stores miles apart (time waster) then back to the first store to buy one. When we got home, the last thing in the world I wanted to do was exercise but I forced myself and of course as the mystery unfolded, I was having a great time and actually even hit my 15K steps for the day before the last culprit was in jail! LOL

Keep doing all that outdoor clean up, eventually it'll show if not on the scale maybe in your killer arms!

Please, PLEASE, send us some of your rain!! We sure could use it. A few days ago we actually had some rain...a "steady drizzle" that lasted a few hours. While grateful for that, we need so much more!! Weather has been very cold for SoCal! 30s at night!! My relatives and friends on the East Coast are enjoying "balmy" weather and, uncharacteristically, we are much colder here.

In addition to my typical Outdoor Fitness, I've been doing a lot of yard work. Raking leaves, schlepping and cutting firewood and weeding. Last week I got into a cleaning frenzy inside the house. That sure got me sweating and burning some calories. The scale, however, has not responded in the manner I'd like emoticon Just gonna keep on keepin on...

So....did you solve the murder??

Good morning! We've been having so much rain, the weather bureau posted that we had gotten 3 inches in this county over the past 48 hours and had it been the usual temp and this was a snow event, it would have been 30 inches of snow. OY! Weird weather.

I did some jogging on the mini tramp yesterday while watching 2 hours of a PBS mystery program I like. Time flies when you're solving a murder. LOL

You're right, I have tried nearly everything except moving to CA! LOL When we were working, we went on vacations every winter to a warm climate...that helped. I was a nurse and worked in a department that had no windows so I would go into work at 4;30-5 in the morning, never see the light of day and go home as it was getting dark again around 4:30-5. So that winter vacation was so necessary. My husband worked outside but even though he saw the sky during the day, working outside in winter in WI was also not always great. LOL

Anyway, since retirement, we haven't felt the need to go to a warm place since we usually can get out during the day. Today, it still was awfully damp but warm (for us) and we got out for a long walk and stopped to talk to some neighbors. It really helps.

Back when we were working I had a light box that I would sit by but it didn't make the move with us so....

Did you read the email from Chris Downie regarding SAD? I thought of you when I got it. It mentioned a "light box", not sure if you've ever tried that.

I am from the East Coast, but live in Southern California. I am sure you heard of our drought. We need rain so badly. On the other hand, the weather here has been lovely - low humidity, high 70s (today it hit 82 degrees!) and chilly, clear nights. Since I am big into my Outdoor Fitness, I get the sunlight and my Vitamin D daily. I should be happy about that, but when I have bouts of depression and "funk" I can't blame it on SAD!! Fitness helps, as does prayer. Have you tried praying or meditation? Probably a silly question. If you have SAD, you most likely has tried everything.

Hope your fog lifts soon, as well as your spirits!!

Have a lovely evening emoticon

Well, it has been so foggy lately that I am very much in need of some outdoor time. It is slightly less dense so the plan is to get out there and move even though it'll feel like walking in a cloud.

Thank you for the pat on the back. I agree with you, it is success to be hanging in there and to some extent, I too have re-assessed my "ideal" weight goal...but I'm not totally comfortable in my skin right now or perhaps I should say the jeans I was wearing yesterday. LOL tight...not so tight I couldn't wear them but ugh, not comfortable.

I have SAD, not severe, but learned some time ago that I NEED to get out for those walks. Even when the sun isn't shining, the light that is out there and the fresh air and yes...movement...are all good medicine for me. Years ago, there were times when I wasn't doing this on my own, that my husband would actually kind of order me out of the house. LOL Well, he was nice about it but he would tell me to go out for a walk sometimes because I would get so bad. LOL now I order myself out the door.

Sorry to hear about your separation from the kids. That has to be hard. Are yu doing skype or facetime with them? Not the same as being together but seeing those faces is better than a phonecall.

Our sick family are mostly better. The nephew with leukemia had a very successful (so far) bone marrow transplant from his son. Paul is doing really well, got to go hunting this fall and got his buck which was almost like a gift to him and the Dr. is telling him if all continues to go well this winter, he will be able to go back to work. He's anxious to do that, didn't think he would miss being a worker but after over a year, he's ready mentally. His grandson, the little guy who also had cancer is also doing pretty well. Still has some problems but he'shome with his dad and eating real food. In fact Paul said he ate like a vacuum cleaner at Thanksgiving. So, they hope to get the feeding tube out soon. All the chemo did some damage to his lungs and liver but he's alive and when grandpa asked him if he wanted to help him while doing thanksgiving dinner clean up, he said yeah and gramps had him pull his finger. You know the results....giggles and typical 4 year old delight. Good to see. LOL

So, we'll be heading into 2016 soon...well sooner than we know. What will that bring I wonder?

Nice to see you, Donna! Don't know where our "team mates" are, but they have to be around as we are still doing good in our "class". Yes, December already..

Lots happening to me during the latter part of 2015. Due to loss in major contracts, my position at work was eliminated. My son and his family (my two grand babies ages 4 and 2, and one on the way!) moved to Colorado. I've never been more than 4 miles from them, so it has been really tough for me. I have been to visit them several times, but that gets expensive!! Spent Thanksgiving there; my younger son and his g/f came also, so it was really nice family time together. My brother from CT also joined us!! Speaking of family time, boy oh boy did we enjoy wonderful, indulgent meals!! Desserts, too!! Even though it was really cold there and snowing, I did my best to bundle up and get some fitness in. Hanging in there and doing my best to get back to my ideal weight goal. I am thinking my original goal was a little unrealistic for my age, so I have adjusted my goal. As long as I am in a "healthy" BMI and feel good in my clothes and good in my skin, I'll take it.

Been up and down with depression. Believe it or not, YES, working out DOES help. 99% of the time I feel better after my outdoor fitness. Not always great, but usually better. Better is good.

Staying where you are IS a success!! I don't know about you, for me, in the past, as soon as I eased up on a "diet" (don't "diet" anymore!!) the weight came pounding back. I think maintenance in itself is a success. Pat yourself on the back.

Keep smiling. Never give up!! You are worth it. emoticon

Hmmmm...December already, still plugging away. Only success is that of staying pretty much where I am...guess that's not all bad.

I seem to be in the midst of my fall funk and need to really push my way out of this before it shows on the scale. Probably my best bet is to make a rigid workout schedule so that I pump up the endorphins. That's the plan anyway.

Yummy soup and future meals are already made! Good for you.

LOL yes, it's goofy to drive that far and we don't do it often but some of those special things are worth the trip. I love to make bread and love my caraway rye but had been running out of caraway seed. The grocery store has these teeny weeny little jars that I could go through in short order and not cheap either. I was able to get a large jar for maybe 3 times the price of what I would get in the grocery store but at least 10-20 times the amount. I'll be making rye bread this week!

Yes!! Absolutely - it IS all about balance. I had an outpatient surgery on Friday. I did my Fitness yesterday but probably shouldn't have since the area is very tender and "tight". Was fearful I'd pull out the stitches. So, today I had a "rest" day.

Speaking of cooking, I had a yen for chicken soup (comfort food), so decided to make it from scratch. This way I can watch the sodium. Takes longer than opening a can!! LOL - however, much better for me. I always put fresh veggies in it, too. Making a huge pot so I can freeze individual containers and enjoy it several times during the next weeks.

200 miles is a long way to drive to shop! Guess it was more of an adventure and outing for you.

Weather here (Southern California) is cloudy and about 78 degrees. The night will be much cooler.

Well, I did get the email with your post, so I'll take that as a good thing!

Big HELLO to anyone else out there that may be reading. emoticon Have a great week, All!

You know, I don't always get the notifications either but today I did. So glad to see you're still here and plugging away with the lifestyle changes. I think of course we all would like to have met and maintained the "perfect" goal without having to keep thinking about it but maybe that's just misplaced thinking since perhaps one of our goals is to be able to keep thinking and doing at all times.

Today, it was raining and not very pleasant weatherwise so we got in the car and drove a couple hundred miles to do some shopping...weird because the shopping we did was for essentially grocery items but it's a restaurant supply store so the items are different in both quality and quantity and substance. Anyway, the freezer and produce bins are full and so am I having had a huge dinner salad. So lots of sitting in the car...not so great...but healthy eating....super great. All about balance eh?

Hi!! Yes, I am still here! Not sure why I am not getting notifications when you post, DD.

Yes, I joined a few of the Challenges. A good amount of the info is helpful. I had been somewhat stuck in a rut, weight-wise. Similar to what you said, I am still in a "healthy weight range", but not where I want to be. Life threw me a few curves so I wasn't as vigilant and "on target" with my meals and snack choices. I kept up with my fitness, but not to the level I was a year or so ago.

SO!! Back to business, back to doing what gave me great success. Mindful eating, not waiting to get hungry, making good choices 90% of the time, and MOVING more. I felt much better in my skin when I was in the mid to upper 120's so that where I want to be, and remain.

Well, we all should know that this is not a "diet"; it is a lifestyle. Life is not perfect, and neither are we. We just gotta keep on keepin' on!

Good morning to anyone who's still lurking out there! How are you doing?

I can't report losing any wt. lately but I have held my wt. at what is within a healthy range so maybe it's not all bad. I also completed the fiber challenge and have continued to get the fiber and the increased water that that requires. Had labs repeated after the month long challenge with some improvement in the values so proof positive that this needs to be an ongoing thing. Labs will be done again in January so it will be interesting to see if I can see even more improvement. Anyway, since that is a goal as much or more than the weight, I should be happy. Still gonna try to lose that extra weight!

Here it is October of 2015....still here, still trying to change habits for the better, still hanging at a weight that's about 13lbs higher than I would like...obviously I have work to do.

I wonder how everyone is doing? have you been trying any of the challenges? I am doing the fiber challenge and even though I frequently ate lots of fiber it was more inconsistent so this has given me a more consistent intake and it does help to keep the appetite a bit more settled too.
When this month challenge is over, I plan to keep this going while perhaps tackling another.

5 years that this team has been around....has it been a good 5 years? It has. Even though I must say I am still a work in progress in so many ways, but I know if I had not been actively trying to change my life habits, I would be in a far worse place than I am and if I'm totally honest, I am doing pretty darned good. Hope you all can say the same...ups...downs...we've had a few...but we're doing it our way! Sorry Mr. Sinatra! LOL

Here i am for what appears to be my monthly hiya!

I watched the movie "Run Fat Boy, Run" this morning. Very funny and yet also a bit of a message movie with a lot of heart. Well, that's at least the way it hit me....maybe because of the journey here. When the main character is running the marathon and his romantic rival is right along side of him, the rival smugly says " run, fat boy, run" to which he answers " I can lose weight but you'll always be an a$$hole" Made me think about the people who tried to make me feel bad about myself at times in my life and how there was a time when I gave them that power. If there's one thing that I have really changed wile on SP, it's that. I am much more able to resist the urge to allow anyone else to get inside my head.

We're approaching the anniversary of this team and I wonder if you also have made that kind of progress. Being the masters of our emotions is probably the greatest benefit of taking control of our health and fitness. My weight is not perfect, my fitness could probably be better at least in the area of consistency but I'm pretty proud of where my head is at. LOL

Keep sparkin team!

Oh my! I have been lax in visiting this team.

After my last post, My nephew did get discharged from the hospital but the doctor said he needed someone there 24/7 so I heeded the call and went down for a couple weeks of nursing/family support. Had to run him back up to the U hospital late one night for fever so good thing I was there. After that glitch, all went well. Anyway, that's the reason I have been even more scarce than usual.

Hope all are doing well.

Back from a very nice vacation trip and managed to even do just a little running a couple of mornings...not much but it was pleasant.

A positive news update on the family front...great nephew is home right now, his radiation treatments are done and though he developed some breathing difficulties, wearing oxygen at night seems to help and his mom posted some pictures of him playing in the sandbox with his little brother...just a bit of normalcy. My nephew received his bone marrow biopsy which went well, he is starting to get beyond the side effects of the last big chemo treatments so hopes that he'll also be able to go home in a couple of weeks. It's all a waiting and hoping game.

Still plugging away (literally) with the running...that's not quite accurate as it is getting better in one way but then the allergy season is off with a bang so back to using allergy meds & inhaler which bring the HR issue back into the spotlight even though I have managed to bring my resting HR back down a sign that my condition is returning. I'm just so impatient. LOL

Yesterday was my board meeting so now I just have some readiness to do for the annual meeting after which I will turn my gavel off to the next guy and glad of it. It really wasn't a bad thing but I have other fish to fry so grateful to be done with this.

My nephew is having his kill all chemo before his bone marrow transplant. This one of course is to be far worse than any of the other ones and he noted yesterday that they upped the dose based on how his body was responding but otherwise he's been pretty quiet which means...don't bother him he's sick...hard to sit by and wait and wonder especially since we know that the plan is to bring him virtually to the brink of death before the transplant which is hoped to create a fresh start ( with it's own risks of course) sigh, the great nephew is getting his radiation treatments which is hoped to eradicate the part of his cancer that they could not remove with the surgery and his many rounds of chemo...one amazing little 3 year old. The big hope and dream of course is that later this summer, we will all be able to relax a bit and celebrate their being "cancer free".

Well, so it goes. Hope you are all well and making progress in whatever you desire.

Spark on!

I have been MIA from this team for so long...I'm a mess...no, don't get me wrong I'm not in the dumps and being down on myself, it's just that this winter of stress over family and the usual months of being restricted mostly to indoor exercise has me feeling pretty unfit.

A few runs under my belt which mostly felt really hard...starting HR higher than it should be...why?...I think I'm going to blame it partly on being deconditioned but more on the allergy pill I needed to add to my daily regimen. The allergy pill also dries me out so much that I start my day with a nose bleed often. My BP is low so that's not an issue but it puts me in that struggle zone...do I quit the allergy pill and suffer the allergies or do I suffer the side effects of the pill?

Actually, those runs weren't as bad as they felt. Logging them in, my pace is slower but not that much. But it is clear that I need to make a serious plan to get back into condition.

I have some paperwork and duties to perform for my presidency of our lake association and I just can't get myself moving...sigh. My heart just isn't in it.

Wah wah wah...Ok, I know what I need to do and I know how. Now, I just need to stop whining about it and get to work. LOL

Hope all are well and forging on toward a healthy lifestyle.

Again, I see it's been a long time since I've checked in but here's the update.

The 5% winter challenge did just what I intended, it helped to blast me back to a better place. I still want to lose a bit more, 5 pound would put me back to my lowest SP wt. and I have again set the ultimate goal to actually lose more like 14. With spring finally coming back to WI, I should hopefully be able to make more progress in this since running is again a possibility.

On the family front, our little 3 y.o. great nephew finished his last chemo this morning and tomorrow will get his stem cells then it's wait to see how he responds. his grandpa, my nephew also finished his current dose of chemo this morning and is going home again since the drs say there are far less bugs at home than in the hospital. he goes in for a f/u dr. appt. in about a week and hopefully his brother's test results will be back to tell if he's a bone marrow donor possibility, if not I offered to be tested though they may not even want to do that since they apparently prefer a male donor for him. We'll see how this all unfolds.

So, that's what life is like round here. Oh, the swans are back to the lake, there is only a small area that is open and they are gliding about over there along with some geese. It's nice to see these returning beauties.

Hope things are well for the rest of the team. Spark strong!

I see it's been a long time since I have visited this team. Hope all are doing well.

I have been doing the 5% challenge and can happily say that it has helped me to budge off this long period of maintaining not my weight loss but my vacation wt. gain (of two years now) ugh...so still in maintenance but at the high end and not happy with that but also not motivated enough apparently to get it off. Now...I am back to where I was before the vacation creep and ready to keep losing that bit more that I have wanted to lose since first losing my weight here on SP.

Personally, well, family wise, there has been crisis. My great nephew has been battling stage 4 neuroblastoma since Oct. 2. This 3 year old boy has been such a brave little guy! More recently, my 50 yr. old nephew, the little guy's grandpa, was diagnosed with Leukemia. So we have one in one cancer center and one in another cancer center separated by about 100 miles. Lots of stress and concern so I consider even small personal wins over my eating and weight, to be huge wins.

Be well, everyone and continued success.

Happy new year everyone! Since this team was formed in August of 2010, this will be the 5th year...WOW!

Well, early this morning I couldn't sleep anymore so turned on the TV...every other commercial was either for some diet program or a piece of workout equipment or diet aid....the new year resolution time for sure and the companies are ready to cash in on all the good intentions. Then I opened the laptop and checked in with Facebook....10 of the first 15 postings were recipes for decidedly non diet fare. It pointed something out to me.

So many of us....for far too many years, step on the scale or look in the mirror round the first of the year and say "This is it!" but the recipes I saw posted show that along with the resolve to do something about our weight is the desire to eat all the goodies that we desire.

Wishing don't make it so! Resolving to lose weight isn't good enough. Habits have to change and that doesn't mean we never eat a treat again, but it does mean we can't use any and every excuse to have a treat. To say to ourselves....it's so and so's birthday...super bowl sunday...the full moon...Friday....or the sun is shining or it's raining or or or........LOL As a favorite Gilda Radner character used to say...."It's always something!" So we need to learn to be selective. I love chocolate but I don't waste that love on cheap candy bars that I won't really love that much....sugar, wax, cheap chocolate....no, I have learned it is so much better to have a small amount of really good stuff.

Let's go into 2015 with true resolve to change the way we look at our diets and lifestyles.

Looking back at my last post, I can renew that good feeling I had right after the fund raising event.

Our Raiden's last round of chemo was particularly tough on his GI system. After repeatedly dislodging the nasogastric feeding tube when throwing up, they decided they need to place a feeding tube through the abdomen. The risk of another potential source of infection is outweighed by the nutrition need and current difficulties. So another procedure to start this week out but he's so wiped, I think he almost welcomes it.

Unfortunately, I haven't had any problem eating myself....As this year ends, I see no progress toward my goal of losing a bit more weight in fact I can now stand to lose more than that desired amount. So, last night I joined the winter 5% challenge team. Hopefully it'll help me to blast through the lethargy and put 2015 off to a good start.

From my lips...this intent to your ears....I WILL do this.

Yesterday I participated in a fund raiser. It was the Snowdrop foundation TM "run til you snowdrop" I only ran 1 hr of our teams 24 hr. Raidens Warriors. It was such a great experience to be in a room of 20 treadmills all with walkers and runners who were committing their hearts and their efforts to such a great cause. The money goes to a scholarship fund for children's cancer survivors and toward research for a cure....all this specific to the Wisconsin Children's hospital cancer unit.

During my hour, the young man on the TM next to me was a 10 year old leukemia patient, he's doing very well right now...a survivor hopefully and such a fine young man who made me feel so good about my small involvement. Of course, part of my reason for being involved has to do with my great nephew who is also a great reminder of how to accept true challenge graciously.

All of these children are amazing!

Now the most recent good news for Raiden is that he had a stem cell harvest with the hopes of obtaining at least 15million stem cells....his harvest yielded 60 million! And the little trooper slept through the harvest procedure. I'm so proud of him.

Good morning hope you're all well and heading into the holidays with strong resolve to stay healthy.

I've been trying to limit some of my computer time, found that my time has been sucking right out of the day if I'm not careful and the bonus is that when I give my 90 minute break from the keyboard, I am filling it with ST and various cooking, cleaning tasks. i feel so productive! LOL

Thanks, he's a little trooper and amazingly doing pretty well considering. When you see clips of these beautiful bald children giggling and enjoying simple little things, it serves to remind us to find something every day to enjoy and appreciate. He's living the life he's got right now and though I know we all would like it to be different, children have a certain acceptance of things that is precious.

Wow...it is so sad to think of a precious little three year old boy going through chemo. My heart aches for him and his family. May God give you all strength and compassion and faith. I will keep him in my prayers. Baby steps in the right direction are definitely good news. God bless Raiden. Keep staying strong.

Things are still dominated by the cancer battle of our little 3 yo great nephew. He's completed the second of five rounds of chemo and is doing as well as can be expected. He has days when the little boy personality shows in clips that mom & dad or grandma post and of course down days too. It's a journey of one day at a time....baby steps and we just keep on keeping on.

I have been dedicating my steps counted on runs to killing cancer cells...gives me a feeling of doing something and not wanting to skip a run means I'm actually improving my pace and my stamina so Raiden has been helping me too.

Hope things are well with you. Stay strong!

Just a little positive update. The most recent pictures posted by our little Raiden's parents, showed him actually smiling while he ate a bowl of spaghettios, chocolate milk and chips ( a child's dream lunch LOL) and watching the legos movie (yet again). This is such a move forward since he hadn't been eating and even didn't have interest in gifts etc. until recently. There are so many wonderful people sending good vibes his way and of course the efforts of the medical staff. We are all so extremely grateful!

On the home front, fall clean up is progressing. I plan to get the flower beds cleaned today. We're getting out for our walks though we've had a lot of errands that have gotten in the way on some days. I was having a lot of change of season aches and pains so haven't run for a bit but maybe today.

Hope you're well and on track.

Oh, such a long time again, since I have checked in here. sigh

Challenges....husband and I both had colds that really knocked us down...too much vacationing.

Then got a call from my nephew, his 3 yo grandson is in children's hosp diagnosis cancer...since that call on Saturday it's been more calls, nearly constant e-mail exchanges and FB time. BTW...if any of you out there are so inclined, my grand niece set up a facebook page to follow his progress and we're asking anyone who is willing to check out the page Raidens Battle....Raiden's dad told me on the phone the other day that whenever they see all the likes for the page and the comments, well wishes, prayers, it just makes them feel so touched. I am amazed at how the internet has helped to make the world a smaller place.

Back from vacation and getting back into the groove...sort of LOL. Husband has a bad cold and I fear I'll get it so doing all I can to stay healthy. Only see a couple of vacation pounds on the scale which isn't bad and maybe they aren't even totally real since I usually have edema weight after traveling...of course my meals right now have been wonderful full of fiber soups and chili so again the scale is just hanging...LOL I'm full of it! LOL

It has been a difficult past several months and so sorry to hear that.

If there is one good thing about that, it is that things have GOT to take an upturn.

Let's hope this year will end on an up note and we can again meet those goals.

I'm still here!! I do log in every day. Life has been full and stress-filled the last several months. My Mother passed away in June...and was probably abused/assaulted prior to her death, in the Assisted Living place where she was living. Has been a horrible time for me. In addition to that, my job has gotten increasingly difficult, and I have been unhappy and dissatisfied there. Poor work ethic and dishonesty has been allowed and rewarded, and good work habits have been ignored and, at times, punished. I have morals and this is very upsetting to me. I have gained some weight since my total loss of 55 pounds. However, I am not giving up. My days are so full it is a challenge to find time for fitness. My eating habits haven't changed dramatically, but my total fitness minutes are not what they should be. I now want to lose 7-10 pounds. At 50+ I know that I cannot achieve my goal by nutrition alone...I have to make time for fitness.
I do Bonus spins for our Team every day. 4 years and still determined to continue this journey...in good times and bad.
God bless you all and check in from time to time!! emoticon

This month is slipping by fast and it is almost time to think about how we're going to stay on track when the weather changes....have you given thought to that?

Last winter we discovered the ability to use a local high school gym at no cost even...such a deal! That will definitely be on my list of possibilities...dvd's, home equipment and outside whenever we can since that always is more enjoyable.

I look at my last post here and see that I've allowed another month slip by....

I've spent the last month one day at a time, mostly eating my rainbow of foods, walking and running and logging everything. Weight just staying right where it wants to be LOL. I would like to lose a little, especially before the change of season but more important is maintaining the fit of my clothing and general fitness so I won't complain. If I'm totally honest with myself, I know I haven't always done everything I should in order to trim the number on the scale so................

Hello to anyone still out there! Only a couple days and August will be here. I've decided to choose this as a time to really dedicate to why I'm here. One thing for August is again to set into the 28 day bootcamp dvd...but for me it's going to be a longer program because I learned the last time I did it that I need to build more recovery time between the prescribed sessions so the 28 days will be doubled taking a day off between each day. Hopefully that will be better for me. Still running and walking with no races planned with all my goals in that toward being consistent and increasing my endurance and speed. And...I am set on attending to the basics with my eating and cutting back on the "treats" LOL

Hope all are doing well and wondering if anyone else sees this coming month as a change to re focus.

Here we are, another month coming to a close....have I made progress? Not according to the scale, but those too tight shorts can now be worn, they're still tight but not too much for wearing and since doing the bootcamp dvd, I seem to be running faster and with more endurance...ha side benefit! So...yes, I'm making progress just not in every way....yet!

Hope all are well and also making whatever progress you desire.

Gosh, I just saw that it has been over a month since I checked in here! Where does the time go?

Wish the winter's extra pounds would slip off as fast as the days. LOL

Of course, I see that I'm not the only one who has been busy elsewhere. It took such a long time for the weather to improve that I've been trying to be out there as much as possible even with some absolutely heavy duty allergies.

Be well!

Nice when you discover that you have burned calories doing your "sprucing up"

Here in Northern WI we went from winter to summer in short order but today is a cooler day with some breeze to blow away the mosquitos which are I swear the size of hummingbirds! Ok, that's exageration but you understand.....it's always something! LOL

Enjoy your beautiful cleaned up yard and pool, you deserve it!

Had family in from the East Coast (I live in So Cal) and did major deep cleaning and yardwork and cleaning the pool. I decided to track those and boy oh boy - did I burn a lot of calories with all that cleaning and sprucing!!
I took today off to stretch the long weekend and enjoy family/friends. Even got out today for a nice long outdoor fitness. Was hot but not unbearable, and I drank lots of water.
Hope everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day Weekend!!

Good for you Mareannie! I've had the same feeling with my winter wt. gain...it doesn't feel good and like you I've wondered how I ever put up with the way I felt at my high weight. I have always believed in the setpoint theory and recently watched some really great weight of the nation programs on I tunes...they were produced by HBO I think. Anyway, one of them discussed how after having been overweight, even when we've lost weight, our hunger hormones etc. don't work the same way as someone who has never had a wt. problem. That could be depressing if we just look at the surface statement but looking deeper, I think it just empowers us to forge ahead knowing that we need to remain vigilant and work harder to be what we know we can be. Anyway, that's the way I like to think. Now...since it got nicer here, I went to put on some shorts and the first pair I pulled one shouted loudly that my winter weight gain was no joke! Luckily I have shorts in there with different cuts that still fit ok but that tight pair really gives the incentive to get rid of this stubborn junk in the trunk!

We're fighting the good fight together and No, we won't give up!

Glad you finally got your Spring!! We've got it here in Southern California and the end of the week will feel like SUMMER with temps in the high 90s! Trying to fit activity in everywhere I can. Strange...I am so uncomfortable at this weight (136) after getting into the 120s - how the heck did I deal with it when I was 177+ more than three years ago!! I guess our bodies have a "comfort zone" weight which varies for each person. My current weight does not feel comfortable. I will not give up!!

Happy Mothers' Day to all the Mommies - hope it was a lovely day for all.

I hear you! This winter was so tough for me, extreme cold and lot's of snow, husband and I both had 3 really bad colds that put us out of the running (literally) and spring is very slow to come so I stepped on the scale this morning and really had to shake myself to keep from negative self talk.

The bright spot is we can come here and share with our friends who are often also struggling and we know what we need to do and ......We'll do it!

Been stuck on an ugly plateau. Too much time at work, too much time commuting, and not enough time for the fitness I love. Eating habits are still good, just the amount of fitness has decreased and my body and clothes and scales reflect that. emoticon

Here we are well into the first week of January 2014. How are you keeping it alive and sparky?

I joined the January jumpstart challenge just to push myself to doing the ST and something requiring some accountability. So far so good....I'm feeling energized!

How bout you? What is everyone doing to keep it fresh?

Here it is weeks later and I believe I should be completely over this cold but I still have a cough that mostly occurs in the evening. It isn't accompanied by chest congestion nor is it bronchial in nature (I have a history of bronchitis) it is more the result of post nasal drip that irritates and of course evening is when it is most noticeable and annoying. sigh sorry to share this with you but oh well.

Winter here is a deep freeze. Trying to stay active. Home exercise when the cold, like today is dangerous and outside when I can. We found a gym to use which has been a blessing but since it's in a school, closed for the holidays. blah blah blah.

LOL Enough, 2014 will be the year that will bring big things yet to be disclosed.

Oh oh, I have not checked in here for a while. Had such a terrible cold and though I think I'm getting over it, the cough lingers. Our weather has been super cold which makes life difficult but I have found a local town school district that has a community initiative with open hours to use their gym facilities. One potential problem is that we aren't residents of that town or county. There is nothing like that in our county so I'm hoping that we can use this great resource even if they have to charge us somehow. I challenge you all to find a way somehow. We can do it!

Now I face a slight lull between one holiday and another and stepping on the scale I can celebrate no wt. gain from this last. Can it be that I finally have learned to enjoy and not over indulge? Goes to show we're never too old to learn. LOL

Hope you're all well.

Hmmmm.....still talking to myself. I know you're out there but busy on other teams I think.

I've had a bad cold and I know I'm not alone in that, if you also have been sick I wish you better soon. If you've been well, I hope you stay that way.

Spark on!

WOO HOO! hit my goal which took me to 1000 miles of runs tracked on my Garmin. I rewarded myself with a new pair of compression socks and today, I will get out for a run so this month will end above my 45 mi monthly goal for sure! This feels good but I have started to look toward November and in that vein, I have started a yoga/flex streak...10 minutes every day...2 days in so far! Also doing push ups every day as well. I'll continue my running and hope to celebrate 2000 miles by the end of this next year. Hmmm....better start thinking about some rewards! LOL

The month is half gone and so are half of my miles. Rain today...hoping it slows down or better yet stops so I can hit the pavement without getting drenched.

Set my goal for October to run 45 miles...all other aspects will be aimed at accomplishing that goal. I think that if I lose weight it will just happen as a result of attaining this goal. Easier this way.

Ten days since that last post, another road trip since then and of course some poor eating while on the road. The truth is that options along the turnpike are overall not that great. I did meet my rainbow every day but my calorie and fat counts were high and sodium...well...so the scale read up 4 pounds and today after a much better day of eating yesterday down some so I am only up 1.6...tomorrow or the next day I should be back to square one...then I can see if there is a chance to actually start losing again! LOL This is a continuing saga but that's life isn't it? Overall, I have been maintaining and that is the point the additional wt. loss I would like is more the frosting on the cake of my life. How bout you? Are you living the life?

Every once in a while I get a reminder of a simple fact...I weigh every day...I'm not obsessed, I just find that a daily look helps to keep me thinking about what I eat. Ok, todays weight is up two whole pounds. First thought, what did I eat yesterday? Was it a lot of fiber? maybe a lot more salt than usual? & did I drink as much water as I should? Well, at first I thought it was the water...I drank 9-10 glasses of water but I usually strive for at least 13 and less always seems to make a difference since it seems my body tries to hold on to it if I don't have more to flush out. Forgot about the broccoli slaw that I ate, not just at lunch but it was so good, I had it again at dinner...all fiber....oh yeah! LOL So, my weight is up a little today...big deal. now I need to fill my water pitcher!

Back from a vacation and personal in to report. Although vacation meant a lot of forced sitting (car trip) and eating out which is so very difficult, I came home to register the same wt. on my scale. Very happy about that. Do you suppose I have learned to live the lifestyle? LOL

Time to stop procrastinating. I got my ST by doing some heavy duty raking and hauling and forking weeds from the lake onto one of my flower beds...double duty both for me and the garden!

This month is more than half over so my goal today/tomorrow is to put my fourth quarter goals in writing in a blog post...accountability.
