Anyone ever heard of Spanish thyme? it's excellent on broiling chickens and adding to vegetables.

I'm out of the taco seasoning I use and can't find it at my HEB so I'll have to check Walmart for it and if they don't have it I'll take a bus trip to Bolner's over on S.Flores street, they should have it there unless they've quit making it. Sure hope not.

Garlic, onions and cinnamon. In fact if you combine these and add some apples in a quick saute it makes a great side dish at dinner time.

It used to be garlic and onions, but I recently found out I can't eat those any more due to fructose intolerance.

I love to use fresh herbs. Basil is wonderful!! I am growing a lot of herbs this year.

Basil, Oregano, Thyme, Tarragon, Peppermint, Spearmint, Lemon Balm, Rosemary, Lavender, Marjoram (an under used herb, that should be tried more often) and Parsley.

I love to mix some of these together.
and Lemon with Thyme or Tarragon is wonderful on chicken.

Good luck,
wendy

It would be quicker to list the ones I don't use - I can't think of any! Using herbs and spices helps me so much in having tasty meals while still reducing sodium... I couldn't do without them. I can't wait for summer to be here and to go pick my own out of my garden. Fresh is so much better than dried!

I have a long list so this is a small installment! The top ones are the herbs that I grow: basil, chives, dill, mint, oregano, rosemary, sage, thyme, tarragon.

Basil worked really well indoors from seed this year with the new grow lights. The rosemary also did much better.

I am spice challenged. I don't know which spice to use on which sort of food. But I did discover something great.
Hands down, Montreal Steak Seasoning. You can use it on just about anything. Also, it's sold at Costco in the big dang containers, so I always have it on hand. We eat it on potatoes, eggs, any kind of meat, fish or fowl and stir fried veggies. If you can cook it, you should try it!

What I use the most is actually a blend of spices. I use Bolner's Fiesta Brand Taco Seasoning mix in a lot of what I cook, I love it. What I like the most is that although it has salt in it, I don't taste it and since I eat very little salt it's a factor in mixed spices for me. In fact when I head home, from McD's where I'm using their free wi-fi, I'm going across the street to the store and picking up a few items, a bottle of taco seasoning for sure as I'm out of it. LOL They have a website and I believe they do mail order if you're interested in getting some and don't live in San Antonio, not sure if it's available all over TX or not.

I enjoy using almost all spices. for pork and chicken; coriander, marjoram, basil, thyme, oregano and sage work well, for beef; ginger, curry, chilis, cumin, garlic, basil all work pretty well also. Just play around with them, you'll find what works :)

Basil and Herbes de Provence or any herb 'mix' are great favourites in my house. I also ALWAYS have a 'rub' knocking around in my cupboard - of a spicier variety (Thai or Indian) and I brighten up chicken, steak and fish in an instant. Makes any meal more appealing.

Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're probably right!

Garlic, anise seed (awesome in Italian dishes), cinnamon.

Though not a "spice" it hangs out with them - vanilla extract.
