Thanks so much for the birthday wishes. My daughter threw a surprise birthday party for me Saturday night. Actually, it's been a wonderful whirlwind since the weekend. My sister came in from Florida and stayed till Monday. Tuesday I had a massage...a gift from my kids. Today another friend who couldn't make the surprise party this weekend came by with a gift and lunch goodies. I'm just settling down...

Catch up with you all later.

I have a lot to do today but I can't put the book I'm reading down.
I'll Walk Alone - Mary Higgins Clark
Picked it up from the library yesterday and I'm a bit more than half way through.

Tomorrow night is the first night of Passover. Going to my niece's for the Seder and Tuesday night is the second Seder. That will be at my daughter's with just her family, me and my son. For that I'm making chicken soup. Have to get that pot going but here I am. Before I was on the phone and when I get off the computer I'm going to read a little.

Also have bills to pay and laundry to do as I will away for a few days.

The weather is kind of dreary - reminiscent of a November day.

I had planned to be in and read, catch up on some TV shows. Finished a book this morning that I enjoyed and went to the library to pick up 2 books they were holding.

Was on the phone quite a bit.

Have a good one.

Packing is going along slowly. But I'm pleased with what we have done so far. We are having to pack some of his mom's stuff and we have spent most of the last few days doing that. Today we got into our things. The weather here has been rain, rain and more rain. We are expecting some bad storms Saturday. I don't think the ground can absorb any more water...it is already so saturated. It had also cooled down this evening. When we get everything put up, I will definitely post some pictures of the new house, especially the new bathrooms. They are so nice. We are also starting to have work done on the yard. It looks like a jungle right now, but we are determined to improve it.

Have a great weekend!!! Nancy

Good Morning:

Got some very good news. We've had several hail storms here in south central Wisconsin this year and with all the damage the roofers are doing a phenomenal business. All up and down our street people are having their roof repaired or replaced. We put on a new roof in 2002 and Vic insisted on getting something really good. We got a roof that was guaranteed for 50 years and could withstand 80 mile an hour winds. I thought he was insane; the roof would definitely outlive us. Guess what folks....in the years since, we've had at least 2 very bad hail storms, tornadoes, high winds, and heavy snows every year. Every year you see the roofers. Well, I had the roofer come out to see if we had damage. NONE. Even the vents and eaves were in great shape. What a relief.

Going to start reading some new authors this week. When I find one I like I read everything by him/her in the order of publication. Mysteries are the best escape for me, but I don't like anything gory.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Gail

Nomi: Hey, 30 minutes on the treadmill is great. Don't knock it.

Nancy: How's the unpacking going? It may be slow but slow is plenty good if it's all you can handle. Things will be great. Maybe when it's all done you can post pictures of your new home.

Packing is coming along slowly...trying to figure out where we will put everything. The weather has been awful. We have had 3 1/2 inches of rain. It is a mess here. My sister's roof leaked. The wind blew some of her shingles off. The insurance adjuster is coming by her house tomorrow while she is out of the town for the day. So David and I told her one of us will go over and be there when they come.

Talked to our son this evening. We hadn't talked to him in two weeks...everyone has been busy and playing phone tag. It was good to hear what was going on with him and the boys. We will be seeing them on Easter. Can't wait!!! It's been too long.

David got our taxes finished and they will go into the mail tomorrow. I am so glad that is done.

Penny Hope you are feeling better.

Nomi Glad you had a good time.

Gail Hope things are going better for you and Vic. You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

Hope you all are having a great week.

Nancy.

Good Morning:

Well, it's supposed to get to 70 today but the temps will plunge thirty degrees or more tonight. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts. Hope to get to the gym today.

Vic finished the federal taxes last night and will do the state taxes today. That shouldn't take too long because most line items are copied from the federal forms. I'll be so glad when that's behind us. UGH.

Enjoy your day,

Gail

Nomi: Be sure to let us know what you thought of the play.

Nancy: Are you making good headway? Sometime unpacking starts slowly but moves very quickly after a certain point.

Nan: How was the party?

Penny: Hope things are looking up for you.

Ellen: How's the floor coming? All done? Want to come here and do mine? Let me know how you like the tile floor. I was thinking of tile for our kitchen and was going to do it this month. However, with Vic back in chemo I'm going to put it on hold. I don't think tearing up the kitchen floor will be good for him.

Good Morning

Haven't been here for a while for a couple of reasons. I am limiting my computer time as I was spending way too much time on it and secondly, I had been coming here and there was not much activity. I see things are picking up so I will be back.

Going into N.Y.C. to see the show Memphis. Have to run and start to get ready.

Have a great day.

Gail, did you get any of that bad weather they were predicting? It rained for about 20 mins, the wind was howling, then it was over. It wasn't as bad as they said it was going to be.

Penny, I hope you are feeling better.

Yesterday, hubby and I ripped up 2 layers of vinyl tile flooring in kitchen/dining room. What a workout! I carried out so much flooring and pulled up so many nails. Today, I'm feeling it...sore neck to back! This morning my friend and his daughter came and started working on the floor. Now it's going to be porcelain tile. I can't wait to see it; I'm stuck at work tonight. This is my last week on afternoon shift, then I'll be back on the dayshift for 2 months.

Have a good evening!

Penny, Sorry you aren't feeling well. Hope you will improve soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care.

Life can be so chaotic. As I stand here among a sea of boxes, i wonder where to start. I have gotten the bedroom done (got to have a place to sleep!!!) The office is done enough that we can get to our computers. The kitchen involves packing my MIL's stuff and unpacking our stuff. I never knew the three of us could have so much of the same stuff. There will be an estate sale, so we have to get things ready to be appraised. We still have a lot to do on the house, and will be doing a little at a time. But it feels so good to at least be in the house.

Hope everyone is having a good week. I am trying to be a little more active and make some improvement on my eating habits. I have fallen back into some old ones that are not good. I'm trying to change one thing each week...this week I'm trying to make sure I eat a "good" breakfast. So far so good!!! I haven't gotten on a scale in so long, I'm almost afraid to do it. Oh well, when ever I find it, i guess I will find out just how bad i have been.

Good Afternoon:

We are in for some stormy weather this weekend and I just may stay in. Might just catch up on my recorded tv shows. What are you guys doing?

We went the last concert of the season last night and to a reception afterward. As season ticket-holders we usually take in 4 concerts a season. I've already paid for our tickets for next season and will look forward to going.

Enjoy the day,

Good Afternoon:

Vic and I are going to a concert this evening. It should be wonderful. There is a champagne reception afterward. WOO HOO.

Vic will start his April round of chemo on Monday. His numbers are going down a bit and I find he gets tired a bit sooner. Still, he's quite independent and has been tackling the taxes since yesterday.

Speaking of the chemo, take a look at the blog I wrote today. His shots cost $3,000 each. That's $30,000 a month! Luckily we have Medicare and an HMO, so we don't pay anything out of pocket.

Wishing you all a great evening and weekend.

Gail Sorry Vic is having a hard time. Is he doing chemo now? I know I was so tired and my white cell count was always low. Hopefully things will be better for him soon. My brother and sister work at the polls and they say the same thing...that sometimes it can be really busy. Hope you're feeling more rested today.

We have been unpacking now for several days and I swear I'm not noticing any difference. I think the boxes are reproducing when we aren't looking. Oh well we continue to persevere!!!

Hope you all had a good week and are getting ready for a fun weekend. We're planning to spend some time with the family. Our son and grandsons may be coming to see us. I am hoping so!!!

Have a good weekend!!!! Nancy

Good Evening:

Sorry I've been MIA. Vic had an appointment today with the hematologist. His numbers are going down, but that's what happened when he first started; things got worse before they got better and it took 4 months before the tide turned. He's feeling all right, but is slowly getting a little more tired. His red cell count is down a bit and that accounts for it. Right now he's doing taxes....YUCK.

I spent almost 15 hours working at the polls on Tuesday and needed all day yesterday (I'm not kidding) to recuperate. We had two wards to cover. One had over a 60% turnout and the other had over a 40% turnout. That's HUGE folks. There was a steady stream of people all day and several who needed to register before they could vote. The people I worked with were very, very nice.

Gail

Nancy: WOO HOO. You finally made it. Congratulations and all the very best in the new house.

emoticon We finally got moved!!! I can't believe after all this time we are here. Now I am surrounded by a house full of boxes, but at least the traveling back and forth is over (unless we want to go there). We ran into problems on moving day...the truck wasn't big enough to hold all our stuff. So we moved as much as we could and then went back and rented another truck and got the rest. We got everything moved here on Friday (04/01). We spent all of Saturday getting our stuff in the house. Mom had everyone over for dinner on Sunday. It was so nice to just relax for awhile. She also fixed dinner for us on Saturday.

My weight has gone up and down during the last month. Hopefully I can get back on target while unpacking. Hope you all are doing well and making more progress than I have lately.

Gail Hope Vic is doing better now. You both remain in my prayers.

Rebecca I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. Hopefully it will get better soon.

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts during this tough time. David and I both know that his Mom is in a better place and she isn't suffering anymore. Alzheimer's is such a tragic disease difficult to deal with at times. We still just miss her so much.

I better go for now and get back to unpacking. I will try to be around more now.

LOL! That was a good one, Gail. I can just picture Vic's face. I did that one to Mark. We were at the doctor's office and they asked me if I was pregnant. I looked at her with a straight face and said, "Yes." Mark looked at me and said, "UH???" and laughed. I looked at him straight face and said, "Oh I forgot to tell you." Then I couldn't keep a straight face any longer, because he was giving me weird looks. Even the receptionist was laughing.

I think Mother Nature was pulling an April Fool's joke on us. The weekend was beautiful and warm (finally). This week rain and cold again...At least I was able to do my walk outside.

Good Morning:

I pulled an April Fool on Vic several years ago...I was 53. Any way, I told him I was pregnant. By the look on his face I thought he'd have a heart attack. Finally, after a very long minute or two I said," APRIL FOOL!"

Hello everyone, I'm sorry that I haven't checked in in so long; it's comforting to see familiar names on the past posts, even though I only had a chance to glance at them briefly.

I haven't been checking in because I haven't been on the computer much at all the past few months, I just haven't felt up to it. My psychiatrist completely changed my medication regimen and I'm having a very hard time adjusting. I'm constantly nauseous, have gained weight, my blood sugars are higher than normal, and I've been very anxious and depressed. And there's not even the slightest chance I'm pregnant, so there's no other reason for my symptoms.

I hope to check in at least once a week or so; I have the time, just not the energy, strength, or motivation, even though you are all dear to me and I think of you often.

In the meantime, please be kind and gentle towards yourselves.

Good Morning:

I was feeling better yesterday but thought it best not to go out too soon. It's been cold here and very unpleasant outside. I'm almost 100% this morning...dare I say...so I expect I'll go out later to the gym and supermarket.

Vic just left for his weekly blood test. He's been tiring quickly lately and hasn't been eating well at all. He also hasn't been taking in enough fluids. This morning I put some eggs, toast and milk in front of him. He ate them and off he went. I've got to be more adamant. Last week he was so dehydrated when he went for his last day of chemo that they had to give him an IV.

I've been reading a lot in the past few days and at least that aspect of my life is back to normal. When we first heard of Vic's setback I couldn't do anything.

Hugs for all of you,

Gail

Morning,

Here I am stuck at work and working from 6a - 2p on a Saturday! I weighed myself this morning, and the scale is going up and up. I wonder if there's a ghost living in my house and it is stepping on the scale while I'm on it! No matter what I do (exercise and eating right) that scale is going up. So aggravating and depressing. The other depressing part is the weather. One day it was 60 and now it's back in the 30's and dreary! I thought spring was here. Have a good weekend. emoticon

Yesterday was my mom's 80th birthday. I went to the Memorial Park and released a red and a purple balloons in her honor - Red Hat colors. I stood there and cried, as I watched the balloons float into the sky. In a few minutes, they disappeared. I wonder if she reached down and grabbed them. A nice thought...How I miss her so much. I really wish she was here to see me losing the weight, she would have been proud. Happy Friday and have a great weekend. I hope the weather is getting better by you, not in IL, still cold and yucky!

The doctor said that I have a sinus infection. So she gave me medicine for it and said that should take care of it. We have been working on getting the last bits and pieces packed. Since we have a few things to finish before we leave, we are delaying our move by a day. So we will be up there on Sunday. I am getting excited now that things are moving along so well. I will be offline for a few days to a week. They are supposed to be hooking up our internet connection on Tuesday afternoon. So if everything goes well I will be back online Wednesday or Thursday.

I will be thinking of you all and sending good wishes your way!!!

Nancy - good luck. What a hall this was.

Gail - hope you are doing better.

Came in from shoveling. Only about an inch or a little more. I am very grateful that one of my neighbors shoveled the bottom of the driveway where i get plowed it. The snow in general was on the heavy side and the plowed stuff is even heaver.

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts and prayers. It really is wonderful to have such thoughtful friends. We miss her so much, be we also know that she is in a better place and at peace.

Well we are finally moving this weekend. We are doing some last minute packing and cleaning. We will be moving on Saturday. Then we will start the unpacking. I will be so glad when we finally get settled.

I have a doctor appointment in the morning. I'm not sure what is wrong...it could be a sinus infection, a bad cold or bronchitis or a combination. I just know I feel awful.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Good Afternoon:

This week went quite well. We had family over on Saturday night, and yesterday afternoon my grandson and his girlfriend came to spend the day with us. I made life really easy by having takeout on Saturday and using paper plates. Yesterday I kept if very simple: a salad, pot roast and home made soup. I bought dessert and that was fine... I don't have a sweet tooth so it doesn't appeal to me.

I'm still in a funk over Vic's re-occurrence of leukemia, but am slowly coming to terms with it. What else can I do? I've made it to the gym with him twice, if only to do a couple of laps around the track. Just getting out can help a bit.

Many, many thanks to all of you for your kindness, good wishes and prayers. You are the best.

Good Evening:

Vic's arm is a bit sore from his chemo shots but he is otherwise all right. I spent the day indoors again yesterday, not even bothering to get dressed. Today I cleaned while he is at his chemo treatment; in the afternoon I went with him for his annual cardiology appointment. His heart is great.

This weekend we'll be getting together with family. Our grandson and his girlfriend are visiting from Ithaca and it's been about 7 months since we saw them. I'm going to have them here. tomorrow night, but it will be take-out or prepared stuff from Sams. I have no energy to cook.

I fell apart at the seams since we got the bad news last week, physically as well as emotionally. I've accomplished nothing but at least I've tended to myself. This past week I had no impetus to get on with normal living. Guess I need to give myself a push to get with the program: exercise, eat right, study, do normal chores. I'm not on a pity pot; I'm just sooo tired of thinking about the future. I need to start living in the moment. Easier said than done.

My love to you all. Thanks for your prayers and support; they are keeping me going.

Gail - hope you are feeling better and Vic is doing okay.

Nancy so sorry to hear about your MIL.

I wrote a blog about my friend's daughter passing away. Very unexpected. Can't stop thinking about it. The funeral will be Friday.

I am getting better about my eating sweets, but now I'm turning to other foods. I need to get my healthy snacks in order and have them ready.

This has been a difficult several weeks for us. David mom passed away on the 4th. She didn't know anyone and then she stopped eating. She seemed to forget how to swallow. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. We have been in KY dealing with the funeral and other issues. We got back yesterday. David has to make another quick trip back for 2 days. We will be moving the last weekend of March. The house is ready and we will have everything packed by then. The service was wonderful...the minister did an amazing job. Our son and our nephew each read one of her favorite poems. Our two grandsons put roses in her casket at the end. I miss her so much but I know that she is in a better place and at peace now.

Gail I'm sorry to hear about Vic. Hope all goes well for him. You both will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hope everyone is having a great week!!!

Good Morning:

I was down with a cold Saturday and Sunday but did take good care of myself. I'm so glad I had frozen dinners I prepared last week, so Vic just needed to nuke his food. Sunday I spent the entire day and night in bed resting and drinking tea. I didn't take any meds but did use my Neti pot twice and I think it helped a lot.

Yesterday I went with Vic for his first round of chemo. He goes 10 straight days a month. Today he went by himself. His spirits are good and he is taking things in stride, carrying on as though he was not ill.

I want to thank all of you for your emails and postings, wishing us well and keeping us in your prayers. It means so much to us.

Don't go on Spark very often. I also realized I was spending way too much on the computer and I'd much rather have time for other things, especially reading, therefore I limit my time on the computer. I set the timer and I usually don't go too much over that.

Hope everyone is doing well.

I got to the gym today and worked out on the elliptical for 30 minutes. Burned 285 calories and was satisfied.

Tomorrow Vic goes in for his 6 month bone marrow biopsy. Maybe I'm cocky, but I think it will be fine.

Sweet dreams tonight everyone.

Great News:

I just got off the phone with my friend Celeste. The results of the PET scan were very good; her cancer is shrinking....How great is that? Thank you all for keeping her in your prayers. I hope you will continue to do so. Please understand she is in stage 4...the last stage, so this reversal is nothing short of a miracle.
