Good Evening:

I got in a 2.5 hour nap today and boy, did I need it. Things are quiet, Vic hasn't been running a fever and he isn't moaning and groaning....thank God. It makes me feel so good when he feels good.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and prayers.

Lots of love,

Gail

Good Morning:

I'll try to get back to you later but here's an update from yesterday.

I took in for his weekly blood test. His numbers were poor so they gave him 2 pints of blood. Also, he spoke to the doctor about the shoulder pains and when they took his temperature they found that he had a fever. Fever means infection, so they gave him an IV with an antibiotic. His fever came down to normal, so they sent us home. We were gone over 6 hours.

At home he began to feel miserable again, and seemed to be getting worse and worse. Finally, I told him to take his temperature. He told me it was 102. (I later learned it was 102.8) He didn't want to do anything, but I called the chemo center and the doc on call told me to bring him to the ER. They gave him fluids, more IV with antibiotics, and admitted him. When I left he was looking and feeling a whole lot better. I got home around 1:30am and by the time I got to sleep it was well passed 2am. I just got up and will be heading out to the hospital just as soon as I shower and grab some coffee.

Thanks a million for your prayers, concern and kindness.

Good Morning:

Have to bring the car in for a 3,000 mile oil change this morning. Will also have them repair a slow leak in one of my tires. This afternoon I'm going in for a pedicure.

Vic did a little better this weekend with his digestive track, but he was in horrible pain from his shoulder. He thought perhaps he way lying in an awkward position or accidentally pulled something out of joint, but our son told him that sometimes it can suddenly come about as a result of the chemo. I tell you if it's not one thing it's another.

Yesterday our dd and sil stopped by with a pair of comfy shoes for Vic. They can be worn outdoors, are athletic slip-ons with adjustable widths and massage the feet. I got him some shorts and a pair of slip-on that are totally enclosed and can be worn in any weather. Unfortunately, while the shorts were perfect, the shoes were too large. I'm going to go back today to see if they have the shoes in one size smaller.

We had a quiet day and I bought some KFC as a special treat. I rarely give him that stuff. There's still a lot left so he'll enjoy some today too.

I want to thank you all for your support, kindness and love during this difficult time for me. My heart goes out to each and every one of you who is suffering and/or who has a dear one who is going through hard times. Illness, divorce, financial worries...they really take their toll, don't they?

With love, hugs and prayers,

Gail

Good Morning:

I never got to the gym yesterday but I did get out to run a few errands. I went to the library, the farmer's market and the garden. Ah, yes, the garden. I picked up a basil plant at the farmer's market for $1 and put it in the ground. My garden is looking good and it gives me great pleasure.

I also went to a local store and picked up shoes and shorts for Vic. I've got to see if they have one size smaller in the shoes. They are slip-ons and are more convenient.

Wishing you all a fine day and wishing all those fathers out their a HAPPY FATHERS DAY.

Hi!! We got back last night from GA. We really had a great time. We had dinner with our dinner group...everyone was able to make it. As always we did a lot of laughing.

Gail David did some of the work, but we also used a general contractor and a plumber for a lot of the work. We still have some painting to do inside.

Nomi We now live in Lexington, KY and it is about 420 miles from where we lived in GA. David and I both grew up here. He came from NC when he was 10. I moved to KY from MA when I was 3.

My family is getting together for Father's Day at my Mom's this year for lunch. We only have two Dads this year...David and our niece's husband. Bill, my son, isn't going to be there. He took the boys to Ohio to show them where he will be living when he moves the end of this month. He also wanted them to see their room at the new place. He will have them every third weekend and 6 weeks in the summer. They will also be meeting his fiancées family, who are really excited to see them. I can't wait to hear what the boys say about it. Bill's job is being relocated 4 hours away from the boys. He and his ex-wife have a good relationship and it makes things so much easier for the boys.

Hope you all are doing well. Have a great start to the new week.

I had a lovely day. The play was People in the Picture. About a holocaust survivor from Poland and her telling of the story to her granddaughter. It was good though I liked it less than the others.

My visit with my friend from work was great. It was so good to see him.

Good Morning

Going into New York City to see a play. I just love the theater and am so looking forward to it. Before the play I'm meeting someone I used to work with. then meeting the friends who I'm seeing the play with and after that dinner. I must be very diligent with food.

Have a good day.

Janis - you make a lot of sense. My heart goes out to you on the loss of your son.

I also use food for everything.

Today I helped out at an ice cream social at the library. Since ice cream is one of my favorite foods I knew it would hard. I think it should be its own food group. Anyway I ate more than I should have but not as bad as it could have been. One of the women said she wanted some but really can't. I don't know if I will ever get there when it involves ice cream. Ate fine the rest of the day so hopefully this won't do too much damage.

Last week was an awful week with food. I binged off the charts and I feel sick about it. My husband and I went north to visit family and I let my expectations get the best of me. We drove over 800 miles to get there and had to work around my stepchildren's schedules. I just feel my husband's children take advantage of him. I do not come between him and his children. I do have a relationship with them by minding my own business. I keep my feelings inside and keep them down by eating. I feel I'm trying to fill a void like a hole in my soul. I loss my son about seven years ago and think I use food to not fully feel the grief. I miss him so much. I'll stop now because I don't know if I am making any sense.

Hugs,

Janis

Good Afternoon:

It's 3:30 PM and I'm so beat. Vic had his last chemo treatment this morning...thank God. They sent him to x-ray, and from what they can see he has no obstruction in his digestive track. They've scheduled him for a GI evaluation July 2. He's been so miserable, moaning and groaning day and night. Also, he's not eating well. I had some errands to run but was so worn out I only managed two. Tomorrow is another day. I guess things will just have to move slower. Got to kick back and relax.

I tried to reach my friend Celeste this morning and got no answer. I'm hoping she was in the bath and not back in the hospital. She too, poor dear, is having one horrible time with the side effects of her treatment.

Sorry that I have been MIA. I have had some physical issues, but they appear to be getting resolved.

We spent a wonderful weekend with our youngest grandson last weekend. He and I had a movie date which we both enjoyed.

Little by little, I have been getting my gardening done. I am trying to take advantage of the weather which is gorgeous now.

I hope that you are all well and that you have a wonderful weekend.

Carlene - I know where you are coming with re the food. So many social situations revolve around food - plus I'm a binger and anything can set me off. Please visit my blog for today and you will see what I mean.

Gail - Thanks for the encouragement.

Came back from the gym and walked an extra 10 minutes on the treadmill to make up for all the food last night. Also did some strength training.

Going to a sr. meeting a little later.

Good morning everyone! The sun is out and boy does it feel good to see it. I know we need rain, but it can make me feel down and not motivated to do much. I'm a Leo so maybe that's part of it. Off for another long hike with my brother in a while. Now that I'm moving more, I don't feel "so old". If that makes sense. Bruins game on tonight and my husband is already planning a meal. If I could only get past the food with everything issue, it would help. Just have to think first about the choices I will make when eating and it will be ok.

Have a great day!

The early morning thunder storms woke me up. I'm glad it rained. Then I don't need to worry about watering the garden. Actually, I really need to get back there to thing the plants and pull the few weeds that have cropped up.

Hope it is nice again today. I did a lot of cooking and relaxing yesterday and never made it out of the house. I'd like to get to the garden and the gym today. I finished the Jonathan Kellerman book, MYSTERY yesterday and also read all but a couple of chapters of Janet Evanovich's WICKED APPETITE. I expect to finish that this morning.

Be safe and enjoy the day.

Good Morning

Nancy – how far is it from your new place to GA.

Gail - I tried to read a Jonathan Kellerman book a very long time ago and it was too weird for me. I do read his wife's books - Faye Kellerman. I just love them.

Came back from the gym. I'm planning on staying in today. Pay some bills, laundry, etc.

Have a godo one.

I went to the library the other day and got some books, one of which is MYSTERY by Jonathan Kellerman. I really got into it. Any of you read his mysteries?

The sun is out today after two days of gloom and doom. It's a nice change. Vic is feeling better and just left for chemo. I'm going to sit back and relax a bit. I've been up since 4:30am.

Enjoy the day.

Good Morning:

Dave came this morning and the house is now clean. WOO HOO!
He will be on vacation fishing in Canada in two weeks, but I just got off the phone with a lady from the timebank who will fill in on the 24th. Boy, am I blessed.

I need to coddle my left shoulder and so lifting and cleaning is out for me. I'm somewhat better since I had the cortisone shot a couple of days ago, but I don't see much in the way of range of motion. Hopefully, that will come with PT, but I'll need to wait till July 1. That was the earliest appointment I could get with a shoulder expert.

Hope you are all having a good day.

Love and hugs,

Gail

Nancy: Enjoy your trip back to GA next week. I bet you can't wait to see those friends. Be sure to bring pictures of your new home. You must have such a feeling of accomplishment...David especially. Has he not done most of the work himself?

Hi! Donna, Welcome to our group.

Nomi I know how much fun dinner with friends can be when there is a lot of laughter. Our Wednesday night dinner group in GA was just like that. In fact we are going back there next week for a visit. We are going on Tuesday. David has a doctor appt Wednesday morning. Then we are meeting the group for dinner that night. Thursday we are having lunch with a couple who are our best friends. Later that day we are getting our hair cut...we both definitely need that. We will be coming home on Friday. We haven't been back since we moved the end of March.

This afternoon our niece and her her two little ones came by to see all the work we have had done on the house. Those girls are so adorable...they are almost 3 and 5 months. We had a great visit.

We had a little rain. They were calling for thunderstorms, but they seemed to have by-passed us this time. I think they are calling for rain all weekend.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Enjoy!!!

Good Morning:

I DID IT! Yesterday, after 8pm I went to the gym and did 35 minutes on the elliptical. Ladies, you have no idea what a feat this was. Usually, if I don't go in the morning or early afternoon I don't go at all. I just watched HGTV all the while and the time flew by. I even burned 315 calories.

It's another gloomy day here and it's probably just as well. I want to catch up on all the programs I recorded on TV and read some.

Yesterday afternoon my granddaughter called. After her very successful year at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee she learned she was accepted to the UW Madison. Madison is the flagship campus and her home. She's lovin' it! She was talking about taking a semester off to be with her boyfriend in Colorado, but sounded a bit less so since her acceptance. I sure hope she continues her education till she's finished. The likelihood of return diminishes when people take a "break".

Hope you are all safe and happy.

Gail

Naomi: I really envy your getting together with friends who can laugh a lot. That's a rare commodity these days. ENJOY.

Donna - welcome - we are so happy to have you. I know exactly what you mean about this being a new day and starting over.

The humidity seems to be a little less and temperature down some. Today was just awful weatherwise. thankfully did not get the severe storms that were predicted but it did get quite windy. I guess this brought in the better air.

Went to lunch with friends today. There is always so much laughter when the 3 of us get together. We set a date to meet again in July.

Hi Everyone

I don't think I've posted before but here I am. I understand being sick of saying, "it's a new day and I'm starting over." I lost 16 lbs and then regained most of it....I have done this so many times it is discouraging but I've determined not to give up....somehow

I'm being tested again for breast cancer....I had it in 2008 and now they've seen something on both sides...just had a bilateral MRI of the breasts...now awaiting needle biopsy.

then I got a letter from Social Security saying they're reviewing my disability. I've got so many things wrong with me, including bipolar disorder, that I couldn't possible work but who knows what they will say.

So, I've been turning to food instead of my faith which I know better than to do. Those old emotions are so strong and the routine of the comfort of food is so ingrained.

Here I am....at least talking about it
Hope you all have a great day
Donna~

Glad to hear all is well. that must have been quite scary.

Gained 3 lbs. this week. I am so tired of this. I've been with the same 7-10 lbs. for over 2 years. I'm tired of saying it's a new day and start over.

Boy, we had some horrible weather last night. There were very severe storms, tornadoes, power outages, flooding etc. in a huge section of the state. I took shelter on my basement steps for about 1/2 hour. Am I ever glad that is past us.

Hope you are all faring well.

Hello again:

Well, it seems I have a bad case of arthritis in my left shoulder. I also have a small tear on the rotator cuff and a burr or spur. The doctor gave me a cortisone shot in the shoulder and set me up for PT. (Oh joy!) This may do the trick. If it doesn't we have to try something else.

Right afterward I went to the gym. I haven't been there yet this month. I worked out on the elliptical for 50 minutes and burned 470 calories. WOO HOO!

Stay cool everyone.

Good Morning:

I'm going to the sports medicine doctor this morning and have a dental appointment for a 6 month cleaning in the afternoon.

Yesterday Vic had an appointment and things are still not good. If his numbers don't go up after this go-round they may try an alternative treatment. He will be going for a bone marrow biopsy in the next couple of weeks to see where things are. In the meantime he is doing well psychologically. Playing the piano for hours at a time, reading and watching TV and carrying on as usual. He is truly amazing.

Stay safe and cool.

Had a rough night. My arm/shoulder were hurting a lot and wound up taking 3 ibuprofen at 2am. Today it will be very hot here too and we may break a record. It's 77 F and just past 7am.

Stay cool and safe.

I had a most wonderful day. Went to daughter's house - we went to a street fair.

Came home for a while and then went to 7 year old granddaughter's softball game. She's doing pretty well.

Just a wonderful day - and a bonus no traffic on the ride home.

Gail Glad you liked the house. I have to tell you the new paint job makes it look even better.

Yesterday we went to our grandson's birthday. His other His mom was having it at her parents' house. Even through the divorce, we have all remained friends and close. It makes it easy to be together for events like this. Our son was there, but his girlfriend had something planned with her mom and couldn't make it. Our former DIL is dating a real nice man. It was a fun time.

David isn't feeling well...I think he has one of those bugs that are going around. I met my mom and sister for breakfast this morning. We had a good time. I met them around 10 and it was already 90° outside. Needless to say today was a very hot day.

David and I are planning a trip back to GA next week for a few days. It will be our first trip back since we moved. We will be visiting friends. I am definitely looking forward to this trip.

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday and has a good start to the new week.

Good Morning:

Today is cleaning day and I'm going to give it all over to Dave. In the past I was working with him side by side. Last week I let him wash the floors. Today I'll give up the rest: changing the bed linens, and sanitizing the kitchen and bathrooms. I feel like a slug letting him do it all even though I am paying him. Crazy, no?

Yesterday our granddaughter and her boyfriend paid us a visit. It was the first time I met him. he seems very nice and is quite enthusiastic and very personable. They have known each other for several years having met at soccer camp (Sue, our soccer is your football.) and are pretty thick. Hannah says they will consider marriage after they finish school. We'll see. A lot can change by that time.

Enjoy the day and stay cool.

Gail
