Hi--I have gathered all my spark recipe bean recipes that I have used on here & they are on my spark page in my new cookbook called BEANS blah, blah,... Anyway, 2 of my long time favorites from before I was a sparker are on there--Cajun 15 bean soup, and South beach diet black bean soup. Also, read the comments the people put at the bottom of the recipes in case there is some other way you would prefer. If you don't like one recipe, try another they are very different. To put them in your nutrition tool--just click on the recipe & when the nutrition info comes up, scroll to the bottom & you see an orange bar that says add to my meal planner & click it you can either just add it, which will list in on today's menu(then just delete it off today-the recipe will still be listed under your favorite)/or if you look under the orange bar you will see you can select what day you want to pre-schedule it onto. The recipe will be permanently stored under MY FAVORITES, which is an option at the top of your daily menu on your nutrition tool--to see it first click button that says ADD A ITEM NOT ON MENU at top of menu. Ask if questions/ spark mail or however. Anyway I have 3 other trade secrets that may help & are not in my cookbook. If you just add salt, pepper, onion, maybe garlic & 1 or the other of these 2 favorite seasonings I'm gonna list--any bean will taste fine on rice. Here are my 3 secret weapons for the sake of taste & nutrition:1-I add 1/2 cup raw pureed veggie into each bean dish--no one notices & it adds a lot of vitamins(ask if need specifics) 2-I use this as fake bacon in beans: www.jdfoods.net/products/baconsalt.p
hp
And #3-I use the creole seasoning when I feel like doing little else/it's sold at wal-mart where I live: www.cajungrocer.com/tony-chacheres-l

Talk nice to ourselves is such a brilliant concept. I loved the way you described it so that we could all really get it.

Thanks!

I think who ever has been needling you, will be very pleased/haha. I am one of those people who can totally miss what's right in front of my face--I was 10 before I knew I had a nose(not really, just said it for lame affect). That's why now I walk away & chew gum while I try to get perspective. I am a master of over-thinking;in fact, my entire bloodline of relatives do this, so as a group we can unleash serious psychological trauma on one another just by asking each other questions. It's painful, really. I actually try to spend as little time with the group as I can for my own protection. Stopping harshly grading my performance or deciding whether I can do something before I even try it---has been one of the hardest things I've had to battle. I've made a lot of progress with it, for instance, when I used to do something stupid, in my internal dialogue to myself I used to say stuff like this,"You STUPID #@$%$#$!!*^&%Idiot! You always %$#%^^&! You'll never %$#@&&^%%!" Fill in any profanities you would like; I used them all. Now I just talk to myself & try to stop myself before I do anything else like this,"Whoa, stop right there!! What was that all about?? What can I do about it? I better get out of here for a minute & go chew gum & think of something to do." This following example helps me, since I've been studying for almost 2 decades on how to talk to my kids so they wouldn't start out in life the way I did. Later, I had a light bulb moment & realized I should coach myself the same way. Here is what I mean: Let's say I take one girl to a gymnastics class & she falls off the balance beam. I'd say this smiling while looking concerned so she knows I'm not laughing at her or making light of the fall," Ow, that looked like it hurt. You ok? Good. Why don't you try it again, you want to?" Let's say she gets back up there & sadly, falls again. Now I would approach her not smiling b/c I would know she is certainly more upset & feeling very discouraged & nobody needs a clown at that point. I'd say, "Oh no!! I'm so sorry--you're still ok, huh? You looked like you were doing ok to me, do you even want to try again--you're so smart: can you think of anything you might could change to help you get it? Good idea, so you think maybe you need to lean more to the right--go ahead & try. I'll stand here to catch you, if you want, just in case." She falls again and I repeat what I did & we both are in there trying different things until something does work or she needs to quit for the day. On the way home, if she never got it, I would tell her, " I know you're tired & probably irritated--but I just want you to know, I'm really proud that you kept trying. It's strange how different things can be hard or easy, isn't it? You know, like how you can out run anybody without really trying. And how you can read so fast & draw so really well--you know how Susy has been taking drawing classes & she still says she wishes she could draw like you. It's funny how that works isn't it--nobody is great at doing everything. You wanna watch a movie when we get home?" I would have liked a parent to teach me to think things out with perspective--now I talk to myself that way & it has really helped me thru the years--I used to waste so much time on the drama I had to work thru before I could do some things--now I don't procrastinate(which is where my drama & worry used to come on the scene)--I just go get started doing what I think needs to be done in my life. Tomorrow at 8 am, I am going to go get in a pool, wearing a swimsuit, that I still would like to never wear in public, & I'm gonna swim laps by whatever means necessary--even if I have to use a snorkel & 5 flotation devices. I really do not want to do it, I mean REALLY, but I'm going b/c it's in my best interest for my future. Read my thread today called IT'S OK TO LOOK STUPID for the ugly details. YEAH, the title is a note to self & I thought it might help some others considering doing things that could involve embarrassment. Thanks for this post too --I'm gonna need the reminder come morning, definitely. emoticon

I like to post info that I find out and about in the world and I have been ignoring a wonderful asset laying right at me feet.

Here are a couple of articles I stumbled onto here on the wonderful SparkPeople.Com site and even though you may have already read them, this is for the people like me who miss the things right in front of there face ;)

This article really struck a cord with me as motivation and I seem to be doing the same dance all the time and I am trampling all over someones feet, come to find out it was my own all along.

I like this article because it caused a light bulb to go off over my head especially the part that says

"But this learning won't happen if you spend your time and energy obsessing about your slip-ups, or getting down on yourself. That kind of useless self-abuse is just a smokescreen you are using to avoid your real responsibilities and opportunities. It is the polar opposite of honest self-appraisal, no matter how “true” or “real” it might feel to you. These may seem like harsh words, but getting past this problem is really critical to success."

There was also a passage about feeling powerless and continuing to be a victim that really struck a cord with me. I feel so helpless and powerless at times that I cannot change the situation I am in, come to find out the reason my situation feels so hopeless is because it "feels" so hopless. Well maybe that only makes sense to me *chuckles* but it really makes sense.

I hope this was enough sharing for those of you who needle me to comment when I post *cough* becca *cough* It's a 2 part article just follow the links
