I get easily overwhelmed...a member of my women's bible class recommended a "me" day to recover....then I remembered to *do something everyday to make me smile*...another reminder of why I need to "spark"

I was eating with abandon for a whole week on vacation and gained 3 pounds. Now I can't seem to get back on track. I'm eating constantly. Today, I went to the gym and called a friend to get my mind off food for a while. I don't like tracking my food but it does help to see how much I'm consuming. How can I get motivated to start tracking my food again? It's getting monotonous.

I have.it's like I'm afraid to reach my goal then,I eat food, binge and never reach my goal. For the life of me I can't think why. Makes no sense. That's why staying in my food plan on any given day is important. I can't go past thinking long term only one day at a time

I've been hovering around a point in my weight loss that crosses a barrier into a lower weight than I've been in a couple decades. I am sabotaging crossing that line every day and I don't understand why. Even though I am highly motivated to be free and healthy, something about crossing that number is setting me back. Anyone else experience this?

The music is haunting and drawing and wild,
and an old woman steps from the shoes of a child.
An hour gone, a day gone, a year, then a life
Illusion is smiling while drawing his knife.

I am new here and checking in :)

I have an audition tomorrow in a discipline I am not very used to, so I am really nervous. I have body image issues, so they of course are in full swing. But I am eating lean protein and fiber to feel full and keep myself from snacking. Just hoping I get a good amount of sleep tonight :)

But, I'm in a relatively good place considering, so cheers to that :)

The legacy goes on, yet it can be divorced from the eating. They're really two separate issues that I know I had falsely paired. Besides, I think I'd be hard-pressed to find an adult who doesn't do one or several of these. These reactions are actually inferred in Buddhist texts describing the way meditators discovered their minds worked a couple of thousand years ago.

I love that we don't have to completely heal to start managing our food better.

I've always felt "crazy" and any time I visit with a doctor about it, the Quacks always tell me "you're perfectly normal...." (never mind that I *do* have issues ...)...

Anyway, was looking at Postsecret.com and there was a link to another website, and from there a link to another and here it is:

I had plenty of stress today regarding the beginning of the school year tomorrow. I was glad I had a reasonable lunch packed and good groceries for dinner. Kept to my plan. I didn't want to feel bloated and disappointed later.

This is becoming one of my fav teams. I want to thank all of you for really helping me come thru a rough patch yesterday. I was having a good day when my sister called, and as she went on and on, I found some old resentments floating up. I didn't say anything to her, (stuffed my feelings) and when we hung up, all I wanted to do was call in a pizza! NOW! I actually considered it. I told my DH who just rolled his eyes. He's been thru this before. Thank God a friend called me just then and I vented to her. Of course I felt better, and I remembered a lot of what is said here. I was no longer hungry, I remained on my food plan, and happy mood restored. Yep, we can do this!

That snacking at night is one of my "challenges", too. I sometimes hang a poster that I made on the fridge door with magnets that says various things to myself. Some say Don't Let Yourself Down, Think Of Tomorrow, and my fav: Don't Be Stupid. For me, it helps.

After serving myself what I considered a reasonable amount, I was able to keep from nibbling on the snacks left out in my Monday night class. I did elect to eat my lunch in a routine time window even though I wasn't particularly hungry. I'm hungry now but would rather wait and eat in the morning. I know from experience my body will shift and start using stores to satisfy the hunger.

Kept to my plan today, except that I forgot to bring cherries to a social event. Had old thoughts about having some when I got home "to make up" for the missed ones, but realized I was not one bit hungry. I can bring some to work with me for lunch tomorrow.

I did go, and felt a little torn. Robert Sean Leonard was excellent but we could hear the lively music from the production next door during some very intensely dramatic parts. Also there were several roles played by actors in a graduate program that's a partnership between the theater and a private university, and it showed IMHO. I was glad I didn't pay more for my seat.

Well, I got a shock at my own blindness last night. I checked the school district website and discovered that the new school year begins in FOUR DAYS, as opposed to the eleven that I was blissfully looking forward to before I checked the site. I thought I had another whole week of break to sit around on Spark and No S, do occasional outings, and look out the window. Nope, three days of prep and students a week from today and for many weeks after that. Strangely, I'm not in a panic. Maybe it's numbness? but I think the fact that I know I have at most two years and I will be working half time comforts me. Even without the extra week, I can take it.

The only food reaction I had was to buy more cherries on sale. I had already decided to get some more, since the season is almost over and the sales can't go on, but I made a point to get them before I went home, and I waited until breakfast to have any. The rest go in individual baggies later.

Sticking to my eating routine today.

Been wobbling on my food plan, but no particular emotions driving it. Just situational. Finishing a Beck book that had a section on EE, and other common slip ups. It's reminding me to read my reasons list and add some reminder cards. Will work on that today.

Sticking to my food plan and debating if I should pay big bucks to go see a world class Shakespeare production tonight that I would be getting a bit of discount on. If you call 60+ bucks a discount. It would mean going by myself. I used to do a lot more by myself, but I got tired of it. I'm also not sure it's the play to splurge on. It's a very complicated political drama, but it's also not staged very often, and it is starring the actor who played the sidekick of the doctor House in the series of the same name. Not that that means he's the best Richard II they could have gotten, but he's not slouch, that's for sure.

If you have not eaten in response, you are winning, even if you still feel lousy. You are showing a strength that is so often necessary for even tougher battles. (One of my spiritual mentors recommended we not ask for ease but for strength.) I hope you gave yourself lots of credit. It IS hard to break the habit, especially if we lose sight of the price we pay for keeping it: that it's actually harder to live with keeping the habit.

It CAN be lonely in our culture to oppose the influences to take advantage of all the eating that's possible. So many people accept the idea that when they feel bad, OF COURSE they eat, as if it's impossible to resist. Remember our "tribe" is here rooting for you; we're all trying to do the same thing! And it's the right fight, IMHO.

Really having a tough time emotionally the last 2 days. I have kept on track with food and exercise but it has been very hard and lonely. I know I have to learn to feel my feelings and not use them as a excuse to eat but it is so hard to break old habits.

For today, I'm committing to my healthy program...one day at a time. I'm also committing to accepting that this day can be filled with those emotional traps, loaded and ready to spring. But I will remember that I am strong, I have support (SP) and I don't have to use food to cope anymore. emoticon

Several easy days. It always feels like it will last forever. But it is getting easier and easier to accept that for overall satisfaction, I rarely need much more food, and certainly not much more manufactured food than I eat. There is still a nagging old tape that says I won't get enough pleasure if I don't get to eat highly palatable foods more often than I do, even though they are less and less fun anymore, and I feel fine with better quality food. I guess I actually miss that fun some. Not to say meals aren't fun now. I can have a lot of fun eating a banana and almond butter, or food with Indian sauces I love. The list goes on!

Only possible trouble I might have today is that feeling of wanting to eat after a social situation is over that I still often get. I"m meeting someone for a midday movie. I commit to eating according to plan, which does not include any random food between lunch and dinner.

It's the 4th of July. We're getting ready to head out to a huge block party with live music, dancing, food and fireworks. Yeahhh. Have a good one everyone.

I have no social plans for the day. In the past, I was often frustrated and even sorry for myself. It just seems like too much trouble to even think about it. I'm actually enjoying feeling no pressure to get out there. I also might have insisted that I needed to create some kind of special food experience to mimic what is going on "out there" or to reward myself or not feel "deprived." It's so nice to have done this long enough to realize that those social moments with celebratory eating options will come down the pike again and the best prep is sane but satisfying eating before and after. I have cherries to look forward to, along with my regular fare plus a little leftover Middle Eastern food from a restaurant. I'm grateful even without remembering that literally millions of people in the world would be ecstatic to eat my modest food today.

For those struggling, please have faith that there is NO emotion that cannot be "ridden" without the need of food. More often, it's our thoughts and judgments bringing on the emotion that must be dealt with and they can be navigated as well.

Congrats on the car!

Have been a bit more social than usual the last couple of days. I made a mistake on the location for a meetup, so I missed it. I'd go to it no matter what, but it is a plus that they offer scones with jam and clotted cream. When I missed the meetup, I was a bit wary that I'd end up talking myself into getting something else similar, when I really just wanted scones as part of the meetup experience. I lucked out finding a terrific little restaurant and loved the food so much, I forgot about getting any refined stuff.

Pretty much have stuck to my guidelines the past four days.

The day has just started but I am feeing pretty good. Going to a BBQ today. I am going to bring my own food so I can track it easier. I have no Idea what they are doing but they are good friends so I know they won't mind. I just don't like to bring attention to what I am doing I guess because I have failed so many times I feel like people will think I wonder how long it will last this time. I know it is just my negative thinking and it doesn't matter what people think but it is still just hard for me. I guess I am judging myself. I hope you all have a great positive day. I will think good thoughts for you all.

I got really overwhelmed yesterday at work and I have the office pager through the holiday. It gives me alt of anxiety that something will happen that I am unable to handle. It has never happened but I still worry about it. I just wasn't into cooking a meal so I used my back up lean cuisine instead of picking up fast food. Then I went to bed and got a very good night sleep. Today has been very busy but again I had back up and I used it so I have stayed on my plan I feel good about that. Sat is my day to weigh in and It was a very special day for me I was 299.4. I have made a goal I am under 300. That makes me feel proud. I hope everyone is having a great day. If not just stop right now and start over. don't look back only forward. Thanks for sparkpeople

I, too, go to the gym in my area using "Silver Sneakers" for a free membership. I only use the pool and hot tub. I keep moving and do exercises and pool dumbells for about 45 minutes 3 times a week.

Sandy, I also swim. The local YMCA has these classes in the mornings .. the first is for arthritis, the second is water aerobics and then another water aerobics for older people like me. Each class is about 45 minutes. All 3 classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday and then on Tuesday and Thursday it's just the first class. Since my heart condition proved to be disabling I could go to any or all of the classes but a lot of mornings I talk myself out of going and I really don't know why cause I really enjoy them. My son and his wonderful wife got me a Fitbit Charge 2 for my birthday this past February and I wear it everyday. I walk my 250 steps every hour between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm and I stay in my calorie range of 1330 to 1680 .. but unfortunately 75% of those calories are in the evening and therefore I am not losing ... yet. Last night I did better so I happy about that. I ate a late lunch at about 3:00 and then about 8:30 I had 2 scrambled eggs cooked with spray and not butter.

Anyway I am too long winded this morning. I hope everyone has a great day!!

well today was a much better day. I did my normal 45 min of swimming this morning then I added a 10 min walk at 10, 12, and 2. It actually felt pretty good. Just did a comfortable pace to start. I am going to try to add that as often as I can. I also drank 2 large water bottles so far today. When I am eating healthy I just don't get thirsty. But if I am eating junk I can't get enough. Weird. Another test from my DR. came back and all was well with that so no more worries with that at least. I am feeling pretty good tonight and again thanks full that today I made good choices. Hope all is well with all of you. If not tomorrow is another day. we have another chance to do better, We can do this!!!
