Better today, hopefully I can stick to it. Dietitian says I need to balance my food throughout the day so I dont binge in the afternoons. Apparently not eating enough at breakfast or lunch, so working on that at the moment.

Had a" bad" day last Friday and it took a few days to feel confident that I am back on track. This was triggered by a close encounter with an on-line scam artist. Fortunately, nothing was stolen, but I was mad at myself for being taken in. I tried to bury the feelings by eating everything around.

I've learned it usually takes a while to work out the layers of guilt and blame, when I mess up on my eating. I believe the calories from a binge are not as harmful as the emotional turmoil caused by unhealthy eating habits.

That's why I put "bad" in quotes. I am working to think about this as a process. There will be ups and down in the weight journey. But even more, there are ups and downs in the emotions associated with eating, with the scale and so on. I believe that this is the most important lesson I can learn right now. Something happens. Learn from it. Let it go.

Came home from my sister's yesterday night. She had a lumpectomy and the surgeon took all of the lymph nodes on her right side because they looked "suspicious". She ended up staying the night because they had to put a drain in. She felt great yesterday so we brought her home and I hung out with her for a while. She does not want my mom involved at all and seems ready to take this on. It's very scary for me. I guess the next step is chemo. New and scary territory for me.

Things went better yesterday eating-wise. I found out that my sister has to be at the hospital at 7 am on Monday for her cancer surgery. That being the case I will have to go to her place on Sunday to get her where she needs to be on time. Not sure how long I'll be there, but I know it will be tough.

Yesterday evening was not so good for me eating-wise -- classic emotional eating after some "difficulties" with my husband.
All better now, though, and regrouping today.
I hope everyone has a great day!

Happy Hump Day!
So far so good for this week.
I purged almost all of the junk food from my pantry, but there is a bag of Lay's reduced salt potato chips staring me in the face every time I open the cabinet. I hate to waste food and my husband should still be able to have them, so I am leaving the bag right where it is. It is a battle of wills and so far I'm winning.

Good Morning to you!

Hopefully back on track today. Another rainy and cold day. and the office was freezing when we came in this morning! Hopefully it will warm up soon. Brought a muffin for break and brought toast with peanut butter for breakfast this morning. I am pre-diabetic so I have to be careful with spacing what I eat. I am waiting for my sister to let me know when her surgery is so I can make sure I get everything done before I take off to take her. (She lives about 3 hours away and I may have to stay with her for a few days.)

Have an awesome day everybody!!

Good Morning,

Was calculating how long it will take to lose weight and reach my goal and it was eye an opener to see just how many calories I've been consuming everyday (the calculator shows how many calories to eat to maintain current weight too). YIKES! For me tracking exact amounts of the foods I'm eating is a must.

Blessings on everyone's day~

Got thrown off a little yesterday because I was invited out to breakfast with my son. Had eggs, but skipped the home fries and meat. I did have a bagel though. I really need a routine in the mornings food-wise, otherwise it throws me off for the whole day. I did OK for the rest of the day, though, and baked a batch of apple spice muffins (an old WW recipe). I throw them in the freezer and take one to work for a mid-morning break. Also, did lots of housework and laundry. Today is a lazy day. It's cold and rainy I am paying bills and spending lots of time online Sparking!
I hope everybody is having a good day!

Hi team, I haven't been on top of my food game the past two weeks and I've gained back a couple of pounds. I've been aware of some emotional eating here and there but mostly I just haven't had the energy to grocery shop and cook...which usually leads to poor choices. I am proud to be walking most days and tracking my food, even if I am WAY over on my calories (yesterday.) I think one of my biggest emotional eating triggers is fear/stress about money. But then ironically I sometimes deliberately overeat when I DO have money, like celebrating with food and more specifically dessert. It's definitely an interesting phenomenon that I am simply observing without (much) judgment right now 🧐

Feeling a little better about things today. My sister found out yesterday afternoon that although she does have breast cancer, test results indicated it has NOT spread to her lymph nodes which the surgeon was worried about. She will have a lumpectomy soon.

Got a nervous sick feeling in my stomach. Lot of stuff hanging over my head that I don’t feel I can make quick progress on; also have that sense that I don’t know what to best thing is to do next. Will NOT eat over it!

Started some decluttering in the kitchen. I will hold myself to 90 -120 minutes on the kitchen and other areas, in approximate 15-minute segments.

Tooth brushing soon after a meal is one of the strategies proposed by the Mindless Eating folks. Good job actually implementing it!

I don't find that certain foods match any emotions with any regularity, more so just my old binge foods.

Today, a feeling of irritation is welling over procrastination. I may not take the best steps, but it is only 90 minutes until dinner time, so I will tough it out and keep to my general plan, or close to it. (I've been pretty much maintaining for most of the last five years and no longer track nor plan detailed meals ahead.)

Today, I must keep a reign on my emotions. I've just found that if one is craving crunchy and salty, then it's a mental craving. If we crave sweet stuff, then it's an emotional need. Gotta try and get a jump on that or my 'numbers' will be going up and what I've lost will be all for nothing.

Cheers! emoticon

Feeling guilty about not finishing a project I know a friend is waiting for, though we didn’t set a deadline, but it’s not driving eating. I was tempted a little going through Costco, but not by the sweet stuff. It just doesn’t seem worth it. Had birthday cake yesterday; even have some left over in the freezer; I thought a friend had agreed to keep it in hers because she keeps hardly anything in her freezer and I have a lot of stuff in mine but she misunderstood what I was asking and later said she wasn’t comfortable with having it. I am content right now. If I start thinking it’s too risky, I’ll throw out the extra pieces that were left.

I am out and about on a Sunday afternoon and that is often a time I would have talked myself into eating something, but I know I’ll be happier if I wait until I can eat the quality of food I have at home and save eating out for a more social or celebratory time.

Yesterday, the old right leg wouldn't lift so high and had to be helped to get into the shower, but I got there nonetheless. There are days I feel like 17 on the inside and the body says "no, you're 71."

Tx. Yesterday wasn't as strong though I can't say emotions were the driving factor. I've gotten into an unsupportive habit of stopping for snacky foods at nearby markets after a weekly meeting for clutterers. No big obstacles today.

Yesterday a lot of anxious thoughts kept whirling around. I used all the strategies I know to deal with them, but my mood remained low. However, I did not let it be an option to eat in response. I kept to the approximate meals I had intended and definitely felt good going to bed.

Wishing everyone well in either having good moods or not eating over bad ones. There's always something better to do in response, even if it doesn't lead to better feelings.

Today I've decided that my efforts are going to count for something. My health has been in decline for some time now. Age is no respecter of persons and the aging body just checks the heck out on ya. If you've lived a long and hard life, then expect a lot of physical breakdown after age 60. We can only work with what we've got and to have the pie in the sky idea that you'll get back to where you were at 17 is a big joke. Taking your health into consideration and age, you will find that you won't pay as much attention to that BMI calculator.

I've decided to work toward what's right for my body and to heck with a target date. If I lose 1 or 2 pounds a month and no more, well that's just what it is. I'm not doing anything wrong as far as my circumstances are concerned. This life is a journey, not a destination.

Cheers!

Have not been around in awhile. Had a rough few months but seem to be heading in the right direction again. What I usually need is getting the right thoughts going before the can do what I need to do to stick to my plan, though that is evolving in response to age and new information that I have decided to accept regarding healthy aging. I had already made many adjustments to my eating over the last nine years, but the beat goes on. It is getting easier as I accept the concept of the damage so many of the foods we take for granted can do. I think I have come up with a broad category of situations for exceptions. It will still be a challenge to keep to "reasonable" portions. I'm training myself to believe that I can get through any urges, no matter how uncomfortable. It's rarely for more than a few hours. This kind of thinking is how I combat emotional eating and other stimuli, too, Since for me there are many other reasons to feel like eating then just because of emotions. I don't track calories but I do have general plans in place, and I know I always feel better when I stick to my plan.

Hi again. I am still fighting the emotional eating monster. Keeping my hands and mind busy when I want to grab something to eat seems to help alot. I either crochet (making nose warmers) or work on 1000 piece puzzles. I just finished a puzzle with two little girls angels and am working on another with a little boy angel giving a little girl angel a peck on the cheek. I have a friend who will frame them for me. My weight is fluctuating 1 - 2 pounds a day. I need to break this plateau. Have a wonderful Thursday everyone and God bless.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

Yesterday was an incredibly emotional day. I was able to feel my hurt, name it, talk about it, and I noticed that my appetite disappeared when I was feeling. I under ate yesterday instead of overeating. I had to force myself to eat dinner and listened to my body. I was able to stop eating when I was full. I am grateful for the opportunity to see that I can have emotions and feel their affect on my body. I can pay attention to what needs to be paid attention to in the moment.

Today I am still sad and grounded in acceptance of what I cannot change.

Every time I practice gratitude I feel better about what is happening in that moment.

Some days I can eat breakfast because I'm starving, and then there are days I'm stuffed halfway though. This morning was the latter. Go figure...
