All of us have been there..I know I had a rough day too...I did go and have an icecream.. and it was emotional,but well have the chance to start fresh every hour, you will succeed and so will I...have a better weekend.

Just some thoughts I have on why I do it. I so it when things are going great. My exercise and food is going well, my clothes fit and I am enjoying shopping for new clothes. Or I have an event coming up or meeting someone I haven't met in a long time and I want to look good. As soon as I start thinking like this I sabotage all my efforts by eating anything and everything. I don't think there is any trigger foods and it does not have to be junk!

My theory is that somewhere deep down we don't really believe that we deserve to reach our goals and be happy! That is for other people who are luckier, stronger etc than me. It is the only thing that makes sense to me.

So the solution as I see it is to see yourself for what you are - a unique human being that has so much to offer and are every bit as deserving as anyone else to be happy and achieve you goals! You are too good and far too important to be sabotaging yourself with food.

So pick yourself up and dust yourself off (I have had to do it often enough) and be true to yourself. Only you can be the very best you on earth!!

I know for me, there are certain foods that are like "Lays Potato Chips, you can't have just one". For me it is the whole bag, or the whole container of ice cream. What I do, is not have any. This has been a life long problem. I just don't have any. If I do want some, I have learned that instead of getting the 'more cost efficient' large size, I get the smallest size and can eat it all. That works for me. It took a long time, and no matter how much weight I lost and good changes I make, that is the change I have to make so I stopped binging. Keep your head up. Buy small, eat all for me on a rare occasion.

May I suggest that you start writing down your feelings when you want to overeat. There is an emotional part to this training that you are not looking at. Maybe by writing instead of eating you will find out the reasons.

not that its going to make you feel better immediately but the great thing is we can start over immediately :) true we might have over eaten however that is in the past even if it happened a minute ago, it over and done with and nothing we can do will change it..all we can do is move on. I know that won't make you feel any better right now but it does help me a little to know my slate is wiped clean as of right this minute or anytime I decide to. Keep your chin up kid....we will make it through this together :) Your in the right place

Maybe fear of the unknow. I know I went through it. But 1st get rid of all the junk food - not there, can't eat it. Plan all your meals and snacks. That helps too.

I know that you're frustrated, but you are here and working on making yourself better, that is a big step in itself. This is a process and it isn't always easy. I have had my share of binges of the years that have made me look back and go "what the heck was I doing?" but you can get to a different place in time. Have you ever had a journal to keep track of what is happening when you do this? If not it might be a good idea. Then you can look back and see what you were feeling and doing that may have triggered the mood to eat and eat in the first place.

Please don't be too hard on yourself. Try to think what you would say to encourage a good friend who made the same choice & then take those words to heart for yourself.

I know that right now you are feeling pretty low; however, there is hope that your choices can be changed over time with some pre-planning of things you can do before hand to ward off such situations as overeating to the point of physically hurting.

Please make a list of things you know will hold your interest & use that list so you don't go overboard with the eating next time you are tempted to do so.

I know one thing a lot of folks here at SP do is to visit their teams - reading threads & getting involved in encouraging others. Also, reading the wonderful articles here at SP can help one get past the urge to start on a binge eposide.

There are lots of things one can do - the thing is that we each have to make our unique to our needs list & then follow through with using them when needed.

Each time you have a success in nipping the urge to overeat before it takes route, it makes it all the easier to change direction the next time the urge to shows up. Over time you will be able to look back & realized how far you have come in changing that behavior choice into healthier choices.

I share from personal experience. Looking back - that old binge eating Ima seems like a person from the Ima of 2012's past - a gal I don't want showing up in my life again. emoticon One thing I wish with all my heart is that I hadn't been so down on her while she was dealing with something she really didn't understand & something she felt overwhelmed by & that she honestly thought she had no control over (even though 20/20 hindsight says that she had total choice about what she chose to put into her body).

Love yourself - forgive yourself - don't ever give up on yourself - there is hope for change as long as you realize that there is a concern that needs to be addressed.

Dear Laura,

I ask myself so many times what makes me really happy. I know same as you know how stuffing myself with food is decreasing my self esteem. I find lot of pleasure in playing alot with my kids and take other works less serious. I think was my mistake to overload myself with too many responsabilities and deadlines.

I joined the gym a month ago, I am running a half marathon this weekend and have been running twice a day for the last week and a half to prepare. But I just keep messing it up with my eating!!! I literally just ate as much as I possibly could and anything and everything I could find...now I feel sick and I don't know why I do this to myself. I feel like crying because I keep doing this no matter how much I tell myself I won't, I don't know what's wrong with me! emoticon
