Depends on what doshas are deranged or even what ones you start with that you need to get back to. If you are in a hot climate, have mostly Pitta constitution, you can get away with raw foods like bagged salad and that is why a lighter diet in summer makes sense. If you hate to cook, I think a dish exchange makes sense. There are ways to tailor dishes to your constitution without too much trouble. Try some of the websites dedicated to ayurvedic living and see what works for you.

One of my favorite books is A-Z Healing by Nancy Bruning (they have a used copy on amazon.com right now for a penny )and it recommends other ways than food to start practicing ayurveda--what colors you surround yourself with, daily routines, scents and a lot of other practices are sometimes an easier way to step into the ayurvedic lifestyle than immediately and drastically changing up your eating habits. It says in the Charaka Samhita somewhere that making drastic changes away from foods you grew up eating can be bad and shock your system...

I recently attended an ayurvedic luncheon. I had no previous exposure to the ayurvedic lifestyle, foods, etc. The purpose of the luncheon was to provide information about a cleanse being offered, starting at the end of July. I am interested in the program, but my hesistation is that there are no "shortcuts," so to speak. I don't like to cook! The food we sampled was absolutely amazing and this seemed like a very reasonable eating plan. (The Eat Taste Heal Book/Cookbook).

But, I know myself and I know that I am not likely to cook on a regular basis for the full four weeks of the cleanse (or the rest of my life for that matter). It's not like I can just run to Kroger and pick up a bagged salad and stay on track, you know?

What recommendations do you have for not only getting started, but using this to make lasting changes? I was thinking I might talk to other people in the cleanse and see if they might be interested in doing a "swap" - where I make two dishes a week and they make two dishes a week and we exchange portions? I don't know . . . please help.

I would love to see this forum ACTIVE again so I can get support from people with more knowledge/experience. Thank you!
