There are various ways to bathe the eyes, and different things to bathe them with. I started off with an organic rosewater which came in a spray bottle - so I used to just spray each eye and hope that some went it. Then I came across a pretty ceramic eye bath, made by an artist, with a painting of the herb 'eyebright' on it. Now I do two sprays of the organic rosewater into the eye bath, and then put the eye bath over my eye, tip my head back and feel the little drop of rosewater go into my eye. I find the two sprays are enough for both eyes.

Other people do more of a wash - and there are different things you can use - depending on your dosha. I use rosewater as it's cooling and I'm basically quite a dry, hot person.

I did find a little video on YouTube which, although a bit whacky, was very instructional.

Hi Sweeties!

Gill, I would love to hear more about your morning eye routine. Do you open your eyes when you use the eye bath? What materials are you using? Last year I was on/off eye steroids for infections so I'll do just about anything to have clear bright healthy eyes again.

Julee, How are you doing?

Still digging my Ayurveda Morning routines. Most days it runs on pure habits, until I get to the weekend. Then I seem to forget all my good intentions.

Did anyone else sign up for Chopra's Free 21 Day Meditation course? That is one habit I need help with.

I started using an app called Fabulous - and the habits fit really well with ayurveda - they encourage habits like drinking water first thing, eating earlier, lighter dinners, getting to bed earlier, getting up earlier, doing some movement first thing in the morning. Cool!

I was awake in the early hours this morning - probably because I knew I'd set my alarm for 5.30 am! I didn't get up until 5.30 am though. I did my teeth-brush, tongue scrape, eye-bath - then did 5 mins Standing Like a Tree, then drank 500 ml (which is twice my usual amount), then made coffee, got dressed, and did my morning chanting practice. That took me an hour.

Yes, my hair is fine too. I did do the massage with a little oil last week, then washed my hair - I had to shampoo twice to feel my hair was free of oil. I think perhaps the oil-massage on the hair is more suited to people with Indian hair perhaps - all the Indian people I know have thick, dark hair. I think the dry scalp massage is good enough.

I have three different oils I use for my face at the moment - one is a pure, organic sweet almond oil; the other two are based on sweet almond oil but have additional oils and essential oils in them. They are from a local company called Kernow Spa:

Soothing Wonder Oil which has some eucalyptus in and is surprisingly refreshing and gives me a nice clear-headed feeling - I'm hoping it might protect me from viruses too (using it in my nostrils).
kernowspa.co.uk/product/soot
hing-wonde
r-oil-150ml/

Uplifting Wonder Oil which is citrus
kernowspa.co.uk/product/upli
fting-wond
er-oil-150ml/

I don't suppose they're particularly Ayurvedic - but they are nice oils, they get me to massage my face every morning (and sometimes in the evening too) and they make me feel good!

I'm good with the skin brushing and tongue scraping. I'm also continuing with bathing my eyes with rosewater - I now have a little ceramic eye-bath and just use a couple of drops of rosewater. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm doing it anyway!

My evening habit of turning off tech by 9pm and getting into bed 9.30 is going well (except on the work days when I don't get home until after 10pm).

ELD is going well too - that's more or less become my habit now. I turned down an evening meal recently because I didn't want to have a three-course meal with wine in the evening! It wasn't important enough to relax my habit for that event.

I've just had the luxury (on a day off) of sitting a reading the whole of the Habit 3 chapter, and the workbook etc. So am off to post on the Book Club thread.

I like just going through this book again and again - there's so much to learn. I've now got a lot of good habits that I didn't have before.

Gill - What kind of oil do you use on your face? I am doing a dry scalp massage most days. My hair is fine and even with washing it, oiling would not be a great idea. But maybe your idea of doing it when my hands are mostly dry and before I wash it would be ok. I am tongue scraping in the morning and at night, after I brush. I like it. I haven't dry brushed in awhile. I want to add that back into my self care routine.

Maureen - It is all starting to blend together. So my daily practices are growing, but they are mostly from Body Thrive. ELD is working pretty well, soup season is here. emoticon Getting to bed by 10 is working but sometimes I read too late, that is an issue. Back to working on daily meditation and yoga and planning on doing a detox later in the month. I do self massage and tongue scraping but I want to get back to oilpulling.

Dry massage on the scalp is nice. This morning I did massage my head with oil, then washed my hair.

I'm looking forward to watching Video 4 of the Chopra thing today. And reading the section in Body Thrive that we're working on - getting to bed on time!

Ha! Right, I did my tongue-scraping after brushing my teeth this morning. Then I massaged my face with oil (which I do every day instead of using creams and stuff), then massaged my scalp when there was really no oil left on my hands. It was nice. I can do that. I also thought, I can do the oil massage on my scalp when I'm planning to wash my hair anyway.

I listened to the guided meditation downloaded from the Deepak Chopra video - it was nice. I'll do it again today.

Thanks, Julee.

I watched Deepak Chopra and Dr Patel's video for today - about detoxification.

I already do the tongue scraping and self-massage. However, they suggest doing the tongue-scraping AFTER brushing the teeth - I've been doing it first thing in the morning. What does anyone else think about this?

Same with the massage - I tend to do (1) dry skin brush (2) wash (3) oil massage.

I don't want to massage my head with oil every morning either - that's too much work for me at the moment. But I do massage my face and ears every morning. I try to remember to massage my feet at bedtime.

I checked out the recipes for detoxification for the different doshas and fancied the Kapha one which was a creamy broccoli soup! The Vata one is pumpkin soup - I avoid pumpkins because they're so large and hard to handle! We don't tend to have canned organic pumpkin on the grocery shelves in the UK. Maybe I can use butternut squash instead.

Hello Sweet Ones!

Chopra's Dosha Quiz resulted in what I suspected. On other quizzes I usually get Pitta but I do have Vata tendencies so it's nice to know that you can be a two-dosha type person. For me, I believe Vata symbolizes my body and Pitta my mind. Vata 32; Pitta 32; and Kapha 26

Julee, Ughhh... I forgot to listen to her meditation. I watched her live at work and then got busy working. ::lol:: How did you like it?

I downloaded Talya Lutzker's Ayurvedic Vegan Kitchen from the library to see if I'll enjoy any of her recipes. The Kindle format is hard with a cookbook, but she does have intro chapters for each Dosha, with lists of acceptable foods. Can't wait till I get to the recipes.

What is everyone incorporating into their Daily lives from the 2 courses so far?

I've been consistent with the nostril breathing and sat for 10 minutes this morning in meditation. At lunch I'll try the grounding again. Forgot all about it this weekend. Oh, and I drank water first thing this morning.

I am trying to catch everywhere. LOL I like alternate nostril breathing, although it can be a challenge with a stuffy nose which I have today.

Gill - Breaking toes sounds very painful. I can see why you avoid going barefoot. I need ideas for grounding when it is too cold outside to go barefoot. I am fine standing or sitting in the grass but I cut myself more than once while walking around without shoes.

Maureen - What did you think of Talya's Day 1 meditation?

Sweet Dreams Gill!

I enjoyed the first seminar and during lunch grounded myself by walking in the grass. I'll try the alternate nostril breathing before meditation tonight.

Thanks Girls! I've joined both challenges, Chopra's and Talya's. I'm looking forward to getting back on track.

Hi Helen and Dianne!

Camping was a blast and I'll be joining the cousins next summer to explore the Rocky Mountains. I'm a minimalist and they are so over the top, generator and outdoor TV, but I embraced it and had fun.

Hello!

Maureen - emoticon Do you have book you would like to work through? Or a challenge idea? I am open to pretty much anything, right now. emoticon I am running though Body Thrive again trying to reestablish habits I let go of during the chaos of my summer. We spent some time in the Adirondacks this summer and I found my happy place. emoticon It was beautiful. Hope you have a wonderful time camping. We are going camping, this weekend, in a state park on Lake Ontario. emoticon

Dianne - It is nice to see you! emoticon

Helen - Hello! emoticon We are all exploring here. It sounds like you a have incorporated quite a few Ayurvedic self-care practices! Do you have any favorite books or websites? Please share. emoticon Would you be interested in going through a book as a group? Or a challenge of some kind?

Gill - You continue to inspire me. I love your new profile photo! How are you? Is your weather fall like, yet? emoticon

So Glad to be back! During Summer I continued with a light morning routine of tongue scrapping, body brushing, and oiling the skin, ears, and nose. Would love to dive back into more Ayurveda routines. Are we starting a new study soon? I'll be camping the next 2 weeks in Sequoia and Yosemite but will have my phone with me.

I did buy a buy container of oil for my skin, but I don't like the stickiness of it on my clothes too much. It's summer now, so my skin isn't as dry. I just use fractionated coconut oil with essential oils, especially geranium for menopause symptoms and I rub it on my belly and under my arms. I also will rub some on my neck and shoulders with essential oils for pain as my neck and shoulders always seem to ache. I'll try to do the oil rubs again in the fall/winter.

It's nice to meet you!

Love,

Helen

Hiya, Helen - nice to meet you.

My day now starts with tongue scraping and a bit of rosewater for my eyes.

I skin brush before a bath or shower - not every day.

I've changed from lotions to oils for my skin care - face and body.

I have also adapted the earlier, lighter dinner regime and my last meal is usually between 4.30 and 6 pm. I sometimes have a hot plant-milk drink in the evening if I need it.

I have benefited a lot from learning a bit about these healthy routines.

Hello! I've been away from spark for a long while and thought I'd check back in.

As far as Ayurveda, I do daily tongue scraping. I do dry brushing with silk gloves when I feel like inspired to do it. I also have switched to eating in an 8 hour window, so I eat from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, but usually finish eating by 2. I made a lot of ayuverda spice mixes and add them to my cooking and to my hot drinks. I do a little yoga routine in the mornings, about 10 minutes long. I also eat whole foods, plant based, with occasional fish.

So, that's my story! I have a lot to learn. :)

Love,

Helen

I'm now fully switched over to having my main meal at lunch-time and having an 'earlier, lighter, dinner'

At first I really missed cooking that evening meal. I missed having the evening meal to look forward to!

Now I love having a larger packed lunch when I'm working, and I love cooking a midday meal at home if I'm not working.

My evening meal is now, most often, yoghurt with fruit and seeds. Today it was soya/coconut yoghurts with black cherries, blueberries, blackberries, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pine kernels. It is lovely. I ate it around 4pm (to fit round my shift work) and am not hungry now (9pm). Amazing!

I don't practice much pranayama - only when doing a guided meditation really. But I do use a kind of Sitali breathing when I'm running and get hot - I remember that the sucking air over the tongue is cooling.

Hello.
Because I believe I have a distorted view of what constitutes a meal... I went searching for information on what a meal looks like in Ayurveda. (I could get up on my soap box and go on and on about food in the United States but I will spare you that rant. emoticon ) Anyway, I came across this article and info graphic by Dr John Douillard, which I found helpful. I will be back with more information as I find it.
Be well.

Gill - I hadn't realized until I read your post what I have been doing. LOL The "picnic-atmosphere" is what is happening with me, too. We have been camping a few times. The problem is I keep eating the "picnic" foods when we get home. emoticon Time to get back on track. Hope you are enjoying your summer. I will be taking a look at the summer ideas in "Your Irresistible Life". Thank you for the reminder. emoticon I am maintaining my morning routine! I have even managed yoga while camping. LOL emoticon

I'm finding that the picnic-atmosphere of sunny days is leading to more sandwiches and crisps and fruity fizzy drinks, alcohol even. My weight is higher than in the winter - which seems wrong!

I am maintaining my morning tongue-scrape, eye-bathing, drinking water, pooping (most days).

I am also having the bulk of my food at lunch-time and eating an earlier, lighter, dinner.

I've been reading the Summer section of "Your Irresistible Life" and was pleased to find that I'd naturally chosen essential oils for my body lotion which were suggested for Summer. Also naturally now eating more fruit and salad, and almost no nuts. These little things encourage me to trust my intuition more and more.

I've been spending more time outdoors, of course, and moving more slowly through my days - more relaxed.

Thank you for the beach towel goodie - it would have been useful today mopping up the melting ice when I was defrosting a freezer at work!

The beach, and summer, feel a long way off right now - it's grey, raining, miserable weather! I've had hot cocoa for supper (with cinnamon, chilli, vanilla in oatmilk)

I like the idea of adding lime, salt and sugar to my water to make 'limeade' - I'll try that when it gets warmer.

I just had a very off-plan four days away from home. It was IMPOSSIBLE to stick to my plan or my routines. I slept on a couch and was in company all day, eating the food provided.

Back on-track today.

I totally agree about the physical book versus the kindle version - the electronic bookmarks are kind of tricky - flicking through pages is much more memorable and engaging!

Joyful Belly's diet recommendations for May. Not sure why they wait until now to send them out.

I hope you are all well. I am feeling a bit out of sorts. Unsettled. I love my sons and their soon-to-be brides but their weddings are making me want to head into the woods and stay there for the summer. LOL My husband has promised lot of camping in between the weddings so we will see. Hoping we will get to hike some of our old favorite parks while we are in town for our youngest son's wedding. Be well.

Gil - I love that book! I have a paperback copy.

Maureen - I have a paperback copy of the book and the kindle version to take with me. I like the paperback because I love the feel of a book in my hands BUT with this book, I have so many pages marked that it is easier to flip back and forth in the book than to use the kindle bookmarks. Well, that might just be me. LOL

I'm not far enough into the book to know whether you should get hard-copy of kindle version. Mine is a paper-back. I always prefer hard-copy if I can afford it.

I've run out of rose water for my eye-bathing, and really missed that morning habit. I have it on my shopping list.

The other things are still pretty strong. I'm giving my dental care more time, and looking at my tongue when I scrape - which I wasn't doing before.

Hi Girls! Sorry I've been missing, which is a shame since I really enjoy this team. I'm still reading through Body Thrive, and doing pretty good with my morning ayurveda. I especially like oiling my nostrils, they just seem stuffy without it now.

Julee, Congrats on the future weddings. My, you are going to have your hands full this summer!

Gill. Thanks for the book recommendation "Your Irresistible Life: 4 Seasons of Self-Care through Ayurveda and Yoga Practices that Work" Should I get hard-copy or kindle?

Great to hear from you. Good luck with the cleanse - interesting about overweight Vata....... I still don't really 'feel' the dosha thing, but I can sometimes spot a really obvious kapha, vata or pitta person. The analysis that made most sense to me was the LifeSpa one where it gives different dosha strengths in different areas.

Doing our own thing over the next few months and looking for a book to do together in Fall sounds like a good plan. Two weddings (and no funerals I hope!) you are certainly going to be busy.

Gill - Yes, I am doing a cleanse. emoticon I signed up to do one that starts tomorrow but started this weekend with an elimination diet of sorts. Mostly liquid, soup and teas. I feel pretty good so I will keep going for awhile. I have had no energy lately and lots of anxiety so hoping this will help with all of that.

I took the Banyan test dosha test. Taking those tests confuses me. Trying to remember who I have been throughout my life and separate that from what is going on now, is difficult for me. I have been alive a looooong time. LOL emoticon I came out Pitta/ Vata with high imbalances in all three doshas. It rang true. I have always thought I was more Kapha but I listened to Cate Stillman talk about overweight Vatas and had an emoticon "aha moment". That was what convinced me to do the cleanse. I need to calm my system down, do a reset.

I am not up to going through the book again right now, either. I am still working on my creating habits and automating them, but I just don't have the energy to do everything I want to do. emoticon Maybe this fall we can find a book to work through together? With two of my sons getting married this summer, possibly moving and all the other stuff we want to do, I won't have the energy until fall.

I love that book! emoticon "Your Irresistible Life..." I should dig out my copy and get some ideas for this cleanse.

Are you doing a Spring cleanse, Julee? I've kind of accidentally done a sort of cleanse I realise - I've been trying to prepare low-carb vegan meals, which means a lot more chia and flax in my meals - it certainly having a cleansing effect on my large intenstine!

I'm also really making an effort to drink more water.

I don't think I can do another round of Body Thrive at the moment - it's a very good book and I've learned a lot - I'll come back to it.

I've dug out Your Irresistible Life 4 seasons of self-cafe through Ayurveda and Yoga practices that Work by Glynnis Osher and Melanie Phillips. Starting with Spring, I'm going to explore this book. Anyone else got this book? There are so many, I know!

I can't find anything about bathing the eyes at the moment - no idea where I first read about it!

I came across this - and almost didn't watch it because he seemed a bit whacky - but I'm glad I did watch it!

emoticon I signed up too for the 21 day meditation practice. Thanks for posting!

Julee, I'm waiting to do Deepak's dosha class after we finish the Thrive book, since I'm a bit behind on that. Hopefully it will be posted on Groupon again and maybe we can do it all together.

Gil, Before knowing about the benefits of oiling and oil massage, I used it consistently to get rid of dry patches/bumps on my eyelid and one of my ears. I guess it was just intuitive to me.

I just got back from camping at the Valley of Fire, about 40 minutes outside of Vegas. I had no idea that Nevada had such great parks. The scenery was stunning, and I was able to hike each day.

These were my neighbors in the camp ground. ::lol::

An article that came through my email today. I love Claudia Welch so I thought I would share it with you. It was posted in 2015, but it is relevant to our dinacharya challenge. The subject is decision fatigue and how dinacharya can help.

Gill - I am going to try a face massage oiling my nostrils after using the neti pot, this morning. It has been really windy here since yesterday and my sinuses are making me miserable.

I've noticed a couple of benefits since incorporating a short face massage every morning.
I have no painful spots anymore - my eyebrows and behind my ears used to be tender, now they're not.
I have not had any blocked ear problems since putting just a little oil in to lubricate the orifices!

I also, touch wood, have not had a head cold for quite a while which I think is partly due to liking my nostrils.

I'm considering oiling other orifices!

Maureen - That is exciting! The course sounds like it will be good. I love Deepak Chopra. I tried to get the groupon but it says it isn't available. Hope you got yours. I feel your confusion over "treating" your doshas. Please let us know how the course is and if you find it helpful.

Ohmyword! Groupon must be spying on me. I just received an email about Deepak's 20$ class on dosha. A little too timely I think. ::lol::

Okay, the email was posted at 9am so maybe just divine intervention. :)

The Deal
Unlimited access to an online mind-body wellness course from Deepak Chopra ($59.99 value)
The online course, known as Discovering Ayurveda, comprises over six hours of video lessons featuring Deepak Chopra, guided yoga and meditation, and a quiz to determine your dosha.

The course contents are rooted in Ayurveda, or traditional Indian health practices. Students will learn how their mind-body type affects their diet, sleep patterns, stress, and activities; then, they can find ways to improve their health and daily well-being.

emoticon Happy March!

I think after I finish Body Thrive I'll find a beginners book on doshas 'cause I'm pretty lost, most of the quizzes have me elevated in Vatta and balanced in Pitta and Kapha.

Gil, While using the rosewater eye wash does your eyes sting? I've been off and on steroids since last year for eye infections and the rosewater seems to be helping but it does sting a bit. Less than the steroids but still would like to hear how it affects you?

I just finished reading Deepak Chopra's fictionalized live on Buddha. I found it really interesting, since I knew next to nothing on Buddhism, and really looked forward to reading it each day.

OK - yes, I'm probably pretty much in balance according to that. The only thing might be at tendency to fatigue mental and physical - so mostly vata stuff I think. The next blog in that series was helpful too.

I feel like I'm doing the 'right things' with Body Thrive - at least, I'm choosing the right things from the lists!

I just did the Life Spa quiz again because I think it's helpful how it separates out the aspects

Mental V6, P2, K1
Behavioural V7, P5, K0
Emotional V3, P3, K3
Physical V5, P5, K1
Fitness V4, P5, K1

Totals V25 P20, K6

Thanks, Julee. I retook the dosha quiz, and got the same results as usual 50% vata, 40% pitta, 10% kapha.

I still don't know how to feel or experience these doshas - I've not had an 'aha!' moment when trying to read and learn about the doshas. I can sometimes spot extreme kapha or vata in others. But less able to spot things in myself.

Hello. emoticon
I hope this post finds you well and enjoying (or tolerating) the last weeks of winter. I have been a bit quiet for the last couple of weeks but I am still here. I tend to go quiet when I have a flare. I have an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I haven't had a flare in a long time and I thought (hoped) I was past that. Apparently not. I am feeling better, good actually, although I am afraid to say that out loud. No sense tempting the fates. emoticon

Anyway, I have been thinking about digestion and imbalances and what to do about my issues. Below are a few links to blog posts on Cate Stillman's site. (She sent them in an email, maybe you got them, too?) I don't know if you have seen them before so I will share them here.

Gill - I am not sure but I think the goal is to balance the doshas. I mean, when your dosha is in balance, you are healthy and functioning well. When you are out of balance things go wrong. With Pitta, too much heat can cause things like skin rashes, stomach aches and irritability. So calming and cooling pitta would help to keep the balance, I think. I don't know what is meant by "strengthening" the dosha, maybe Maureen does?

I quite liked the LifeSpa dosha quiz because it breaks the doshas down into different areas - so I'm more Pitta in some areas, and more Vata in others. It made a lot of sense to me.

What I don't yet understand is what it means to 'strengthen' or 'pacify' a dosha. If you are very Pitta - do you strengthen it, or pacify it? Doh? I don't understand it at all.

Seasonal eating, however, is within my grasp!

Maureen - That tea looks very nice. I tend toward herbal teas. Right now ginger tea is keeping me warm. I keep meaning to make some chai. I think I will give that a try right now. We have the wind howling outside and my sinuses are driving me crazy. The only time that happens anymore is when it is windy. emoticon Spicy tea sounds nice. emoticon Thank you for the information!!! I have a Meyer lemon in the fridge that would be perfect to try in that recipe. emoticon

Since I'm drinking lemon water first thing in the morning, today I tried a cup of this too. It certainly warmed me up and the added honey was nice since I usually don't add sugar to anything. What type of teas do you guys drink throughout the day?

How Can Lemon & Spice Weight Loss Tea Make You Feel Great? tinyurl.com/yb4a9vs4

AYURVEDIC ANALYSIS
Lemon & Spice Weight Loss Tea combines peppy cayenne and zesty lemon for a tea that delivers gusto and verve. One sip of piping hot Lemon & Spice Tea will brighten your cloudy morning mind and warm you up from head to toe. Sour lemon and apple cider vinegar awaken your senses. Brightly pungent cayenne pepper will warm you to your core. Add a little honey for sweetness that also scrapes fat and toxins, and this tea becomes a metabolic boost that makes you feel great.

This is a classic, vivacious Ayurvedic blend to boost fat digestion and metabolism. After drinking Lemon & Spice tea, a warm sensation deep in your belly will confirm these effects.

Strong Metabolism for Weight Loss
Enthusiasm and inspiration are the effects of stimulating vinegar and spicy cayenne. They add an intense metabolic spark that improves energy, restoring your "get-up-and-go" that youve been missing. Together with warm water, they strongly stimulate digestion and clear mucus accumulations from the stomach. This has the effect of improving circulation and revving up metabolism, effectively clearing heavy fats from the blood as well. Honey is the only approved sweetener for weight loss. The secret behind honey lies in pre-digestion by bees, making honey the only 'warming' sweetener that actually improves metabolism. It's diuretic nature reduces water weight as well.

INGREDIENTS
2 pinch Apple Cider Vinegar
1 pinch Cayenne Pepper
1 tsp Honey
1/4 Whole Lemon Juice
1 c Water

PREPARATION
Squeeze lemon and add remaining ingredients into hot water and stir. You may use any type of vinegar although we prefer apple cider vinegar for taste. 10 drops of vinegar is perfect for this recipe. A 1/16 tsp of cayenne is equivalent to "a pinch".

Usage
Drink in the morning upon waking, a 1/2 hr before meals, or sip slowly after meals. You may enjoy this tea 1-2x a day or as directed by your practitioner.

Well Julee, You are definitely well rounded being a tridoshic. I looked at my results again and see that I'm Pitta-Vata, which aligns better with me. I honestly didn't agree with some of the Pitta food restrictions that were suggested, the Vata-Balancing tastes are the things I crave. Sweet fruits and root vegetables, sour pickles and grapefruit, and salty things like sea salt and celery.

Now I'm feeling much better about my Pitta-Vata type and my lifestyle recommendations.

Maureen - I just saw your post. LOL Great minds. I love the color in the food that I am eating. When I look at food/restaurant advertising, now, the first thing I notice is that all the food is brown and there are very few, if any, vegetables. emoticon It doesn't even appeal to me. It is interesting how your tastes and cravings can change. emoticon

With regard to my dosha, I come up tridoshic but I am not sure that is right. I should probably see an Ayurvedic practitioner.

Gil, I love it when our friends finally get us. ::lol:: No one worries about what I'm going to order anymore. Sometimes they are even envious when my food comes and they see all the variety and color.

Julee, I'm in the same boat when my mornings are hectic. I might skip a few self-care routines, but I try to pick up where I left off when things calm down.

I've taken a few Dosha quizzes now and each time it's a combination of Pitta and Vata, but usually more Pitta. So in my inbox a few days ago, I found February foods for Pitta from Joyfulbelly and tried one.

Yum, it was delicious! I definitely need to add more water next time if I want soup consistency but I loved it all the same.

Ingredients
1 cup Beets
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
1/4 cup Coconut Flakes
2 tbsp Coconut Oil
1/2 inch Ginger (FRESH)
1/4 tsp Salt

Preparation
Chop the beets and puree with equal quantity water in a blender. Add all ingredients into a pot and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for a half hour.

Gill - You are right about time moving quickly. I cannot believe it is almost February! How wonderful that you have friends that are supporting the changes you are making!!! I know what you mean about self care falling by the wayside when life gets stressful. That happens to me all the time. What is new about that situation is that I eventually come back to taking care of me. So I am not consistent in my self care routines, yet, but I do return to them. Progress, I think. emoticon It is very cold here today and a hot bath sounds like a good idea for tonight.

Thanks for posting Habit 4, Julee. The weeks go so quickly! I was good today - yoga class helped. Skin brushing and a nice bath this evening.

Nice thing today - I had lunch out with a friend and she looked at the menu board and said "I know you have your main meal at lunch-time, so choose whatever you like" - she had soup, and I had a lovely spicy veggie fajita and salad - it was delicious.

Well, seems like I've had a couple of very wobbly days this week too! I guess Winter would love me to have a rest and restore, but work and life pushes me on, and I've been quite anxious and stressed - which has led to more eating off-plan than I'd like, and less exercising and meditation. Ironic isn't it, that when we NEED these things more, we do them less?!

My basic routines are still in place - which is good. Self-care routines like tongue-scraping, drinking water, pooping!, face massage, foot massage. ELD. Early to bed (except when I'm working late).

Fall down seven times, get up eight, right?!

Maureen - It may have been olive oil that your dad used, sometimes it is called sweet oil.

GIll - I have had that happen to me! It really does reinforce how the ELD affects my body. I sleep much better when I don't eat at night.
