I'm embracing Cate Stillman's ELD = no problems with that. I'm not into all the workbook stuff to be honest - well, not at the moment anyway. But I am really enjoying using the seasonal eating tips to limit the choices I have to make about what to buy and eat!

I have a couple things to share this morning.

I am still working on making my main meal at noon and a lighter meal in the evening so this should help me focus.

I am trying to adjust to an 'earlier, lighter, dinner' as suggested by Cat Stillman. I watched John Douilard's video on March today - he explains that the start of Spring means our appetites reduce, and suggests having smaller breakfast & dinner, and having a larger lunch.

This has happened for me because I have had a bug and lost my appetite!

I have it quite challenging, but have enjoyed planning my meals around the seasonal recommendations from the lifespa website - John Douillard. I've loved having figs which I don't generally buy, and more root veggies, including beetroot which isn't something I often buy either.

I've experienced a benefit in having some warm spiced milk at bedtime - using some chopped dates, cardamon, coconut, almonds etc.

I've been reading some of the blogs and videos from The Aryuvedic Experience - and noticed today that the skin around my fingernails is dry (winter, Vata). I've been putting various Aryuvedic books and recipe books on my Amazon wish-list!

I had a helpful email back from The Aryuveda Experience explaining why their diagnostic quiz found me to be Kapha-Vata when all the others found me pitta-vata. I am looking forward to being able to figure myself out!!!!

Gill - I think it is because some pungent foods can be drying and you don't want to increase Vata (cold, dry, light, etc) winter, which is a cold, dry season. So for balance to the cold and dry season, you would be looking for moist, heavy and warming. Did that help? This article might be more helpful. emoticon

No, scoring low in Kapha just means you aren't Kapha. Whatever you scored highest in is your dosha. You can have tendencies to more than one. I am Vata Kapha and I have too much Vata right now so I have an imbalance which I am trying to rectify with diet and lifestyle.

I went shopping yesterday and only bought things that were on the winter shopping list from John Douillard. I am confused as to why pungent (spicy) foods should be avoided in the winter, but chillies, ginger, cayenne, mustard, horseradish, black pepper are all on the winter list? it seems illogical.

I had a lovely soup for tea with corn, cabbage, onion, tomato, chilli, ginger, garlic, lime - then some red grapes for dessert. It was lovely.

I have no idea what my imbalance is! I'm also confused about the dosha thing - if I score low in kapha, for example, does that mean I need to strengthen that dosha? Anyone know?

I'm thinking of getting myself a couple of book "Aryuveda for Dummies" and also the John Douillard book on the 3 seasons diet.

Fall is coming. emoticon Making changes seasonally appeals to me. I am still working through Body Thrive but I am planning on changing some things up for fall as well as a detox.
emoticon I am reading Your Irresistible Life: 4 Seasons of Self-Care through Ayurveda and Yoga Practices that Workby Madhuri Phillips, Glynnis Osher.

Welcome. Even If you are just dropping in to take a look around, I invite you to pull up a cushion and stay awhile. If you are curious and would like a place to explore, learn and discuss Ayurvedic practices, you are in the right place. Reclaiming my health and finding balance in this crazy world of ours is why I am curious about Ayurveda.

If you have ideas about what you would like to see here, let me know! I am still considering the restructuring of this team. I would like there to be discussion, a book club, a library of resources and maybe even some challenges. What would you find helpful? Let me know.

As I have said, I am not an Ayurvedic practitioner. I have been looking for a way to incorporate Ayurveda into my life for quite a while. Playing at the edges for years. Anyway, Cate Stillman's book, Body Thrive, seems like the perfect place to start. One habit a week for 10 weeks and no one is looking for perfection. This is about learning, trying new things and listening to your body. So if you would like to join me I am starting a Book Club thread for this book. Hello,
Welcome.
My name is Julee. I took over the leadership of this team because I wanted a place to learn and discuss Ayurveda. I am not an expert. I am working my way through several books at the moment and an introductory class online.

Do you have a favorite book?

I have several. But at the moment I am working my way through Cate Stillman's Body Thrive. It is about taking Ayurvedic practices and making them habits. It is a process to incorporate Ayurvedic practices into a modern life. Cate Stillman is trying to make it accessible for us.

I want to reorganize this team page but I want to do it in a thoughtful way so I haven't made any changes yet. Is there anything you would like to see or find useful?
