I'm doing pretty well with my morning routines. Tongue scraping . oil pulling . drinking warm water with lemon . quick dry brush before shower

However, I still need to work on being more consistent with morning meditation.

Haven't even tackled night time routines yet. Would love to sleep 7+ hours at night.

I managed to 'oil pull' with a little coconut oil for about 5 mins this morning. It's a start.

I'm doing good, thanks. I hardly dare say it, but I do feel that the energetic rhythm of my days has improved now that I've got some of the basic habits going. There's still plenty of room for improvement, but I notice I have much more energy throughout the day. I woke up at 6am at work this morning, and although I did make myself a coffee and skip my usual routines, I wanted to get some work done and was really into it!

emoticon How is everyone doing? What is working for you? What is not?

I am back on track with the routines I had in place before the holidays. I am still working on daily daily yoga, meditation and breath work. Not sure why I am finding this so hard. I feel really good when I manage to make it part of my day. I will keep working on it. emoticon

emoticon Dinacharya - January

Self care Activities:
The self care activities that have become routine are early waking, drinking water first thing, oil pulling, tongue scraping and Abhyanga.

For January I will be working on adding in gentle yoga, breath work, meditation and oiling my ears and nostrils.

My intention for the season is to rest and restore. My intention for January is to continue working to automate my self care routines.

My progress:
Traveling through the holidays was wonderful and fun but exhausting. I am looking forward to establishing routines I can and will take everywhere with me.

Don't let Gill fool you, she is awesome at this and an inspiration to me! emoticon

Gill - I was just looking over the January food guide from Life Spa. emoticon

Maureen - I use organic sesame oil. I have allergies so nut oils are not an option emoticon but I think Gill uses an almond oil. Love your intention for January!

Dianne - Glad you are back! You are not late, we are just getting warmed up. emoticon

Hi. I am a bit late getting here. Some things have been going on and I am just beginning to rise again. So, my first 3 items are Basics to get some momentum going.

Dinacharya - January

Self care Activities:
1. Meditation/Prayer
2. Exercise, particularly to get back to QiGong or Tai Chi at least once a week.
3. Eat more plant based food. I am making some progress already.

My intention for January
My body deserves to be well cared for by me.

I'm relatively new to this too - but have got some of the habits down now.

I can't start my day without bathing my eyes with rosewater, scraping my tongue, massaging my face (sweet almond oil) and oiling my ears and nostrils, drinking a glass of water. ELD (earlier, lighter dinner) is now my normal routine. Making lunch my largest meal is regular.

Those things are robust habits now.

Dinacharya - January
Self care Activities: daily yoga; skin brushing; massage feet before bed
My intention for January: pay attention to hydration via water and oils during the cold weather; use the LifeSpa seasonal guide for Winter foods.

My progress:
1-6th - doing well and getting them all in - water takes the most effort!

7-13th - I think I've done yoga 6/7, skin brushing about 4/7, massage feet 7/7, trying hard with water, adding a little oil to meals (currently have some walnut oil which is nice)

14-20th - I haven't had such a good week. After a yoga class on Monday, I haven't done any yoga! I have skin brushed before bathing, massaging feet before bed is 7/7 - I can't go to sleep without doing it now! Starting today, I'm getting yoga back on the menu!

21-27th - Despite my intention, I still haven't managed daily yoga. I did to to yoga class on Monday. I love yoga - I don't know why it's so difficult to take the time to roll out the mat. I've had variable success with hydration - and even had one day when I drank herbals teas at work instead of black tea or coffee. That was good. Skin brushing is hit-and-miss; I don't have a shower so haven't figured out a 'yes, and.............' trigger to piggy-back it onto. I did brush this morning before getting dressed.

Hi everyone I'm new to group and new to Ayurveda concepts and thoroughly enjoying all the links provided. Some of the Daily suggestions I already incorporate, waking early, yoga, mostly plant-based eating, but I'm looking forward to adding in more activities throughout my day.

Is there a special type of oil that you all use for the self massage? I thought I might pick up some almond oil. Thanks!

emoticon January, a new year and a fresh start! As we begin the year we will continue to build and solidify our Dinacharya. You can choose to add new things to your self-care routine or continue on with what you started last month. emoticon

If you are new to our little challenge, emoticon please just jump in where you are! If you have questions, just ask. If you have resources to share please do that, too!

..........................................
.

Ayurveda is all about timing and cycles and seasons. Ayurveda begins with self care. So that is where we will begin, with dinacharya . What is dinacharya?

From Wikipedia:
"Dinacharya (Sanskrit:"daily-routine") is a concept in Ayurvedic medicine that looks at the cycles of nature and bases daily activities around these cycles. Ayurveda contends that routines help establish balance and that understanding daily cycles are useful for promoting health."

Daily routine. We are going to build our daily routines. Our dinacharya. Our challenge for the month of December is to continue building and automating our routines. You can choose to add one or two more activities or just keep working on what you are doing. We will continue to build and add on to our routines, at our own speed. Below you will find articles that describe dinacharya and what is included.

***(Some of the articles below involve sales pitches for classes or products. I am never going to tell you that you should buy this or that. There is good information in these articles but you DO NOT have to buy anything to do this challenge. There is so much information available in books, (that you can borrow from the library) and from reputable online sources, there is no need to purchase anything.)***

emoticon emoticon January Dinacharya Challenge: emoticon emoticon
