When I had hand pain, my physiotherapy treatment was stick my hand into a water bath with ice cubes until I no longer could stand it, then into a luke warm tub, then back again until 15 minutes were up.
If medicine or treatments that your Dr. prescribed are not working, you have to go back right away and get different ones. Arthritis is a crap shoot. My Dr. has tried so many medications to see which combination finally did something. There are a lot of them out there. And with a severe condition, you should probably be under a specialist's care. Physiotherapy actually does far more for me then medicine in many cases.

Nothing helps my pain. So I'm looking at you all for suggestions. Had my cortisone shots Thursday for hand pain. They usually work . But this time one hand just won't stop hurting. Help!

I take 800 motrin and sometime a muscle relaxer when it is really bad. Mine is knee pain also. I found that walking actually made it feel better. I started real slow and worked myself up.

Can't speak about knee pain specifically, but moist heat (packs or baths) helps my low back pain. I've also been told to ice. PT helps. Rx pain meds (Meloxicam, Diclofenac) quit working a couple of years ago, so I gave them up. Fish oil helps with inflammation (be careful to get one that does NOT have added cholesterol) as does an enzyme called bromelain. Fresh pineapple is high in it -- and there's a serving of fruit! Also try to get enough sleep. And communicate with your doctor. Good luck to you!

Sorry to read that steroid shot didn't work, call your Dr. and ask what the next step will be. Ice packs for inflammation, anti-inflammatory on a consistent level will help.

I use ice packs, tylenol arthritis strength when the pain is not to severe, Vicadin, and Meloxicam to relax the muscles. Some times , tho I know I'm not suppose to I soak in a hot tub of water just to relax the muscles and get temporary relief from the pain, then as soon as I get out of the tub and dry off I apply an ice pack to my lower back and one to my hip to combat any inflammation the moist heat may have created.

I can related to both of you since I'm having more pain, especially at night, since I regained about 40 lbs. I've been taking tons of Tylenol, but nothing else, and sleeping with a pillow under both knees. Most nights that works pretty well, but not last night!

I had injections in my left knee, and that was good for quite a while. Now, I'm hoping that taking off about 40 lbs will be a big help.

I assume you've had PT? I find the exercises the Physical Therapist gave me to strengthen the muscles around my knee go a long way to helping with the pain. I take aleve for night time pain.

I have consistent knee pain. Need knee surgery. They will not do mine due to being 100lbs overweight. I take 600 ibuprofen 2 times a day with Tramadol 50 mg. When the pain get so bad epically at night i take Vicodin 500. I had lots of the shots in my knee they seemed to help for a while. I sleep with a pillow under my knees at night that seems to help. I know how bad it can get. I hope I have helped. I am blessed I have a set down job.

If those aren't working do you need surgery?

re exercises - you could try chair exercises (less pain from the knee) or water therapy. At least that would help to keep your mobility up.
