I have hurt my knee but it is doing better everyday. I took a long walk with out pain but in the night it started to hurt again. So I took two days of rest and all is well now.

Heart doctor finally released me to fo exercise after 6 months. Sunday i asked the church to pray for a favorable outcome without surgery. They laid hands on me. When the doctor did the ultrasound he was amazed. He said there is no damage but the ultrasound from last month showed that the heart was deteriorating. I told him ain't God grand and the power of prayer.

I haven't been as active as I should. I have been dealing with heart related issues since February. I have had two stress texts and found out that the top of the heart is deteriorating. So in four weeks I go in for a heart Cath to see what the damage is.

I have been told no exercise except for walking 5 minutes a day.

Since last August I have lost 54 pounds while working out with a trainer twice a week.

But now I fear that I might gain some of that back.

I hope whoever reads this has an awesome week.

Wednesday was another five mile day. Busy but felt good when I could have my walk!

WooHoo! Way to go LindaF49! I have a knee replacement and at times it seems to give out unexpectedly, so I prefer the treadmill when I am really attempting to jog/run because it is guarded! Check out "Fellow Flowers", they are a group of women supporting other women who are walking/jogging/running (I find most are runners). They have virtual races at times. If you "enroll" you get a tee shirt and a medal for finishing. I just completed the "Joy" run - only I walked it. I am hoping to improve my time and start jogging more than walking, but as you know..... it is a process!

I did my 5K my way... pushed through all the "can't do it because..." and gave it my best shot.
Knee and hip both gave out at half way mark and was thankful I was on the guarded treadmill setting so no fall - just stopped. Was making good time for me and feeling good and heart was doing great and lungs doing well but not ready to try it with one leg!! SO I did a" HALF 5K " = am proud and content but don't get the T-shirt.

You go girl!!! SO happy for your health and strength!!

Two more days till my planned race day - It will be done in our home on the treadmill and results sent in to leader of the real thing happening in the city. So planning a test walk today with my shoes on for part of it and my usual support socks for part and decide what to do on Saturday. Rest tomorrow and will be glad when the commitment is met and on to daily living again. This cold weather has the pain levels higher than I thought they would be this late in February.

Agreeing with the heal down first and roll up DOES get the knee into that "feel better place" - I notice it more when I first stand and start to walk across a room that I do when walking distances. I need to take more advantage of the videos here at Sparks - I always enjoy then when I do but tend to forget them in the busy-ness of life and routines of my machines here at home.

LINDAF, I use videos here on SP for lower body and my bike is the best PT according to my trainer from 2007.Lunges are good and especially when I walk I am careful to make sure I get the heel to strike the ground first. Sometimes if the knee doesn't feel good just walking for a while with striking the ground with the heel and making sure to roll off the toe makes it slip back to the "feel good place".

Would you share some of the things PT has you working on? I am so thankful for the weeks of PT I had this past summer and still do some of the activities - main thing is getting in steps, stationary bike for range of motion nd some motion and a little endurance. Balance is so important - walking in the hall while rotating head back and forth and up and down is a simple effective one. The rebounder is excellent but I have not been using it - need that routine back in my life!!!

One week till the planned date for my 5k - will still see how far I can go on the treadmill,

LINDAF, thank you for the kind words. I know the time will come when I have to slow down. I just have to keep pushing or it will be sooner than I want it. Spent some time in 2007 when I could barely walk or stand more than 15 minutes. Surgery and physical therapy got me back after several months. Still doing PT of some sort every day to stay healthier now.

GolfGrandma - I have always been amazed at how many steps you can get in - so happy for you!!! My daily amounts keep shrinking with the progression of the neuropathy and it makes me sad - Doc says I have got to concentrate on activities of daily activity and be content with safety first and use machines rather than challenging the great out doors. SO will keep working at it and being thankful for the ability to walk in our home and do enough steps to go to the different levels of the house daily

I am getting my steps in by doing 15 minutes, 30 minutes or whatever time I have when some other chore isn't needing my time. Easier this way for me to go over my 10,000 daily goal.

Smiling at your note and then read your "signature line and you were doing exactly what it said!!! "Looking out for the needs of others" - good work gal!!!

By the days of the challenge I would be doing my race tomorrow but mine is three weeks away and I knew that when I started - so will just continue my routines and gain strength and endurance in the training. Lovely sense of contentment in my efforts and I am thankful!!

Today was difficult for me getting my steps. Hosted a baby shower at our home with help from my sisters and daughter. We all attended church , had just enough time for lunch and then the last minute food and decorating time kept us busy. We had guests until 5:00 PM. I managed to get 30 minutes exercise on some very tired feet. So tired now.

1/17 Day 13 - feeling more real with the progress - 40 minutes on stationary bike and 10 miles but even better is the pedometer hit 4000 steps again today - must keep increasing that number - and muscles are doing nicely and no pain so am thankful!

Didn't write yesterday - did get in the 15 minutes on the bike at the very end of day. Just not having any energy and struggling to keep in the exercise aspects of this goal - But will plug along - sure wish I had someone doing this with me on the team - it really encourages me just to have one person even, paralleling my efforts and comparing notes.

Fridy 1/12 15 minutes on the treadmill and keeping pulse in my safe area - so much harder to do this with the neuropathy advancing and not feeling much in feet. just lifting and putting down stumps but will keep it up if it means I will be able to walk a little longer.

Day 6 - walked a lot in Walmart today - seriously questioning if my arthriti hip and knees can do another 5K - but will continue to train to the best of my ability and have talk with Doc as date gets closer. Experimented with resistance band - one of those red cords with handles on it... really feel weird doing this but will keep trying till it is real!

Day 4 - struggling to get the feeling of being in training for a 5-K - have kind of a tummy bug affecting my energy and attitude - wanting to eat more that day's food plan. Not really hungry - just wanting comfort food with the need to settle into a good plan.

Hi Kathryn, Always the encourager - You are a delight!!
Day 3 Sunday is my day of rest from food tracking and from exercise machines. but we have a large church with double flight of stairs so I do those stairs and walk a circuit of the halls and fellowship hall. Then we go to the local grocery store and I purposely walk every aisle.
Ready for plan tomorrow

Linda well done.

I walked to the supermarket today and really looked around. My neighborhood is lovey so many nice old homes in walking distances of new buildings and stores going in to high rises. Mid town Sacramento is really some thing.

Looking forward to my walk tomorrow, walking up town to the main library.

Day 2 and I am scared!!!! What have I committed to??? I did one therapeutic 5K and said then...never again ... I just want to live and sustain my mobility and health and live fully....
Water under the bridge since then and as I try to build strength and find more balance and mobility, my peripheral neuropathy seems to get worse and yet I m also learning safety measures for walking and training my weak feeling-less legs and controlling pain levels - so I pushed the stationary bike an extra 5 minutes yesterday and drank a little extra electrolyte water and no leg cramps!!! Forward ho!!! now to add 2 minutes to the treadmill today... keep rotating and evaluating and see how the heart issues hold up too - Cardio Dr encouraged pacing myself up a bit - I have learned to observe and care for me thus far - I THINK I CAN!!!!

I have not been able to walk this week, first with the storm Friday night and power outage and then with the continuing heat and humidity and my asthma. I have been active though.

I am frustrated b/c the weight comes off so slow these days and I am disabled so there are a lot of exercises I can't do. But... when I remember in Spring 2010 I weighed almost 250 and had diabetes ... then I am proud and grateful for how far I've come. I've only lost 4 pounds so far this year, but it's a heck of a lot better than gaining 4 ... or 40! emoticon

Good day everyone,

I just started the training with the first 15 min walk. I usually do more but I want to stick to the training format because I need the discipline.

Hi,
Morning is the best time to get anything done outside. Be glad when I weigh what you do.
6 days a week I get up around 5:00 have my devotions, feed my dog, plus now have a wild bird the children at church found yesterday. One had died, they didn't see any nest where it was, but did see the one on the otherside of the drive threw. So I am feedind it until it is big enough to fly.

Bleagh! Too hot and humid today! And too much to do. 9574 steps on my pedometer, and it's late. Do I walk another 500 steps to make the 10,000? There's a four mile walk I had plans to do, but then our Family Member landed in the hospital, and that was that. Then we had to have our precious cat put to sleep. Just one thing after another. I intend to get this four mile walk in. I'm already walking a lot because I was on the Curves diet which involves lots of exercise and walking. I could walk the 5K tomorrow if I had to, I'm already trained. I just need some crazy stuff to slow down so that I can get my heavy-duty walks in.

I had such walking plans today! But I had to take my Sweetie to the emergency room, so there went the better part of the afternoon, and all of dinnertime. I only had enough time to get in a quickie workout at Curves, and then it was too late for the 4 mile walk I'd planned.

Hi,
I am not doing anything I don't have to, watered the garden & went to the chiropractor yesterday evening. He said I have a heat rash on my legs & all I do outside every morning, but Saturday, is water the garden foods, that are in pots this year.
Use a aircondistioner at night & turn it off when I wake up about 4:00AM. Then I turn it on about 8:00PM, so it will be cool when I go bed. It only cools the bedroom.

Have a nice day,
Irma

Good Evening Everyone,

I went to the gym today and worked out. I walked on the emoticon treadmill for 44 minutes. Attended the emoticon Silver emoticon Sneakers emoticon Class emoticon for one hour. Came home and did one load of Clothes and one load of dishes before going out with Robert. We went over to see how dad was and took him some peaches. He wasn't home so I left the peaches with the caregiver and she said that we have a celebrity in the house. She said that dad enjoyed watching the weather that Robert did on Channel 5.

We came back home and I started supper and now time to rest and get caught up with the teams and food logging.

Hope everyone has a good evening with whatever you do.

That is the way to get it, when you see it & most of all if you can get it at a lower price. That is really good, that you could put the things on layaway. Keeps them nice until they are needed & no one can be tempted to use them before time.

Good Evening Everyone,

Today Robert and I went to the gym and worked out. I rode the emoticon bike for 62 minutes. Attended the emoticon Silver emoticon Sneakers emoticon Class emoticon for one hour.

Then I took Robert to Hibbet Sports to get a basketball for practice and shoes he will need this next year. He wasn't too happy when he found out I was putting everything in layaway. I told him that he didn't need the stuff until August.

We then went 30 miles to Russellville to go grocery shopping. Finally returned home at 7 pm.

You are doing great. To answer your question I believe 1 mile is 1 mile no mater how you do it. so if it says you did so many steps on the treadmill I would say you had taken that many steps, when you walked to the hospital.

Good Evening Everybody!,

Found out yesterday talking to a neighbor that he was robbed last week. They had gone to Peru to see his wifes family. Usually they come over to tell us that they are going so that we can keep an eye on their home for them. They didn't this time. I don't know if it would have made any difference or not. I wasn't home much with having to take our son to basket ball practice and going up to the hospital every day. The person or person's got away with $700 that the family left for a lady to pay the utilities with. All the rx meds that was in the house. The wife used to be a RN so some of the meds were pain pills and diabetic pills. Took a cell phone and keys to the truck which they couldn't get out of the garage. The garage doors has to be open with a clicker and the clicker was in Little Rock at the air port.

I have a ? for you ladies. I made 9 trips to the hospital and walked a total of 2 miles each to and from the hospital room. The tracker wants to know how much time it took me to walk a mile. I don't know. I didn't keep track of it when Steve was in the hospital. Would I put down the same amount of time it takes me to walk a mile on the treadmill.

emoticon I lost 5 pounds this week. I like one pound getting to oneder land. I cannot wait.

Today Robert and I went to the gym and worked out. I rode the emoticon bike for 19 minutes. Attended the emoticon Silver emoticon Sneakers emoticon Class emoticon for one hour.

I then took Robert to wednesday emoticon bowling emoticon league where they won 3 out of 4 games. He received his 1st place team trophy and trophy for highest scratched scores for 11 and under.

I hope everyone has an emoticon day with whatever you do.
