Walked in the morning with hubby and in the afternoon we went to the gym, when I ran and he walked on the treadmill. Ran 3.5 miles. Using the treadmill to try to increase my speed.

Got up a bit earlier today, so ran my usual route, picked up hubby for his morning walk and then did my weight lifting, all before breakfast. Since it was a bit earlier in the morning, it wasn't as hot, so the run was better than yesterday.

Got up later than usual, but ran 2+ miles, then talked hubby into walking with me for another 30 minutes. After dinner, went for another walk with hubby. It was hot for the morning run and I hadn't been running the last few day, so it was harder than usual. I was also testing my new Heart Rate Monitor. My Polar watch of 7 years died unexpectedly. The Chest band unit is functional, but couldn't find the watch to match it, so had to buy a complete set. It's a little different than the old one, so have to get use to how it functions. I do appreciate the large numbers with the new watch.

I've finished the w5d3. Did my 5k run. I was feeling a bit under the weahter this week so I had to skip 1 day. It took me a bit more time to run the 5k than the last time. But I did it again!. this morning I am going for a 10k walk with some friends and next week I start the 10k program. I have about 12 weeks to get ready for the 10k run I registered to so I should be able to run it.

I have decided to try for a full marathon next year. I should have plenny of time to get ready to do it. I just have to see I to deal with winter, snow and running.

Have a great day all!

Lima,
Thanks for the input. I am an early morning runner as well. I have been having a small cliff bar and then running a half hour later. I've always heard you should eat something after going all night but was wondering. Today I was thinking next run I would try without eating but definately getting up and hydrating. I'm pretty sure I need to slow down. I just get going..... :)

Today was an early 30 minute run on the treadmill because I needed to pack and depart.

Tracey5280,
Are you eating and then running or running on an empty stomach. Lots of opinions about running on empty and after eating. I usually run on an empty stomach. If I eat, I will usually wait at least an hour before running. I don't do too well running right after eating. But since I usually run very early in the morning, it's difficult to eat, wait and then run, thus I run on empty.

You may also be running too hard and too fast. Try slowing down and see if that helps.

Keep running.

Skyfrog - I love your observation on the triathalon!

Good run today. Hills are becoming a little easier. Does anyone else have trouble with nausea when running. The times I stop to walk a bit are because of that. Can't stand the feeling!

Happy Friday!

Was my first day of run 4 and walk 1. The last 2 intervals were a bit of a struggle, but I made it! If it works out like my 3 and 1, it will be easier next time.

Did more walking than running today. Walked a Civil War Battlefield this afternoon and then back at the hotel I ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes before lifting.

Yippee - I did day two of week two and made it! I'm so amazed at myself.

There was a triathlon that went through my neighborhood last weekend. The truly amazing athletes led the way, then a mountain of wonderful athletes and then there were the ones that weren't going to win but would never give up. That might end up being me in August - still, this is one t-shirt I'm honestly going to earn and wear with absolute joy.

It is exciting to see how we can improve and do things we never thought doing! I didn't think I could run 5k without stopping.. I did last weekend. This is my last week of training for the 5k your way running Program. then I'm starting the 10k program since I registered for a 10k race in September... who would have thought!

Good run today. I've incorporated a hill workout to get ready for a 5k in September that I know has a good one to conquer. I did the whole hill without stopping! Ran a total of 3.25 with a little walking ('ll blame it on the hills) but still a 11:33 pace. Never thought I'd be doing this!

Ran 3.75 miles today. Yesterday I ran 3 miles. Running on the treadmill at the hotel. Wednesday and Thursday of last week I ran outside, which is what I prefer. Will be running outside again when we get back home at the end of the week. The weather is very humid.

Yesterday was 40 minutes. I run outside. I am happy because at the 35 minutes mark, I was almost a block further than when I ran the previous 35 minutes. I am less scared to go a little faster. The first 35 mintues I ran I was so afraid of not making it, it held myself back a lot.

So yesterday 40 minutes gave me 5.1 km. Now I will be able to work on getting faster. next week will be a bit easier and will end with my 5k run. I'm looking forward to see if I can improve the 39.28 minutes it took me to do 5km.

As soon as this is over, I am starting to train for a 10k. the race is September 25th so I need to make sure I do not skip a week of training.

Today was 35 min at levels 5 & 6 for 3.1 miles on the elliptical. I do my running on the elliptical 2 days a week and outside maybe once on the weekend. I don't really like running, but you never know when I might be talked into another 5K.

Been a week since my last post. Well the leg's are still not right. Think I must have got a small pull on the hamstring in that spinning class the other week.

Doing lots of stretching and just running at a comfortable pace. Thur - treadmill 10 mins and steady pace no intervals (unlike programme should have been) Sat 2.5 mile run, but had to walk on steep hill as hamstring was not having it, Tues interval training on sea front (week 3 C25K) much slower than normal but leg getting better.

Hope to be able to do that interval training on the treadmill tomorrow if the leg carries on getting stronger

Motivated - if you are not quite up to the 35 min run yet, there is no shame in repating a week or breaking it down a little. You sound like you are not far from it managing 30 mins so don't beat yourself up you have come so far. I must admit running that long on a treadmill bores me. I am lucky and can run outdoors at the moment most of the time and that does make it more interesting as I can vary my routes some flat, some with hills etc.

Valerie, hope you feel better soon, ease yourself back into it though.

did my last interval training this morning. It was warm and sunny but it wasn't too bad. I did 5k in 41 minutes. Last time I did a 5k in interval I had done it in 43. I'm glad I shaved a few minutes off it.

Next week; running for good! can't wait!

It is indeed mental! Motivated, try adding 30 seconds to each 30 minute segment until you are up to 35 minutes... it's easier if you break it down into smaller goals...

I am having my last day of week 3 tonight. I am actually looking forward to the full run. I know it will be hard but I am ready for it. I think a lot of this is mental. I do only the runs from the training. but I make sure I do at least 17 miles total on foot each week. I walk a lot. maybe it helps I don't know but when I feel like I can't go further I go one house at a time... let's go till the end of that lawn then the next and it usually works for me.

Hang in there you can do this.

After successfully completing 3 Weeks of 5K Your Way I headed into week 4 where it requires non-stop jogging for 35 min. I was apprehensive about it. Tues. went to the Community Center and did 30 min of jogging but felt I just could not push to 35. I walked 1 min. then finished the last 4 jogging. Mentally it was so boring on the treadmill.

Yesterday I was determined to get the jog in but my schedule only allowed a noon jog in mid 90 degree temps outdoors. I only lasted 18 min jogging then had to walk/jog the rest of the way. I am beginning to think the plan moves me too fast. I have a mental block on jogging non-stop for 35 or 40 min. It feels like forever!

Monday's run was tough. I had brought the dog with me... unfortunately she was a bit to happy and was pulling sideways, backward, forward. my ankle took a beating.
NO MORE running with her. We'll walk together and I'll run alone!

Found yesterday's interval training run really hard after Mon night spinning class. Still feel as if my left leg muscles are really stiff and tight. Looking forward to Body Balance tomorrow night to stretch everything back out.

Last night managed to fit in 20 min interval training run on the treadmill. I missed Saturdays run as we were out all day and yesterday it rained all day long - too heavy for me to go out running in!

Off for an outdoor run tomorrow though. Spinning class tonight

Memoreira, you can try alternating ice and heat on the sore area... try heating a bit before you run and then icing afterwards....

I am on week 3 of training running 35 minutes straight and had ran for 2.76 miles in those 35 minutes on Wed, but I must have pulled a muscle in my thigh and it has been a bit of a bother. I still went out today for my 35 min run but was only able to get in 2.33 miles in the same time :(. No major worries thought a couple of days rest coming up and hopefully we will be good to go for Week 4.
Happy weekend to all!

I did my training yesterday evening. I'm not yet running all the way but I will soon. I had a nice cooling wind so it was nice. I went a bit farther in my 35 minutes training. doing 2.58 miles. I now know I will be running the 5 k in 3 weeks. Not an official race but I will do it.
I also have registered for the 10km run at Montreal's marathon in September. looks like I have the time to train for it and I find myself liking the runs more than I ever thought. Now I'm thinking maybe half a marathon next year....

Been working on my first week of the 5K Your Way Running Program, and have always run in my neighborhood (lots of hills). Went to the Y to run around the indoor track. It was sooo easy running on an even track, I could have run for the whole 32 minutes without walks!! Guess I'm getting in better shape than I thought, running up and down the hills that is.

Ran a 5K with my 8 year old yesterday. It's a very big event (1700 people in the 5K, about the same in a 10K, over 3000 in a half marathon!). We stayed together for the first 1.5 miles then he left me behind. He finished around 31 minutes and I finished in 33:34. For me, this was faster than the 5K we did 2 weeks ago, but slower than the previous two times I've done this race.

Went running this morning - was pretty slow and unmotivated. I really want to increase my speeds, but I'm not sure how to do it on my own. (The 8yo doesn't really like running for training, he just likes running in events!)

Went for 3.77 this morning! Had to walk a bit as my calves are still sore. I'm hoping this is something that goes away as time goes by and my body gets more used to jogging. I tend to be an early morning work out person so the heat (which in Colorado is nothing compared to so many of you) will be less of an issue.

emoticon LIFELOVELAUREN.

Yesterday did my 12 min treadmill routine. Found it very hard and think it was down to eating too much on Sat eve. Hope to flush everything out by tomorrow as that is my next offcial run!

Just came back from the best run of my life! I've finally found a buddy to help motivate me, and we're both around the same level of fitness which is useful. We only ran for about 30 minutes at a slow pace, but we're both really pleased with our progress :)

Saturday was hard but I'm glad to have done it when I finish!
Couldn't sleep so I got up to read @3:00am. When the morning run time came I was tired before I started. Jogged and walked 3 miles. emoticon

I'm going to have to start getting my runs in early! It's getting hotter and hotter here in Atlanta and by 10am I just don't wanna!!

I bet it'll be so much better first thing in the am.

Hugs!

Just some advice on the heat and humidity (from someone who runs in it year round!)

If you go early in the AM, before the sun rises, it will be cooler, but more humid. If you go in the evening, the sun will have burned off a lot of the humidity, but it will feel much warmer since the pavement has been absorbing the heat from the sun all day.

Pick your poison!

NJ gets very hot and humid in the summer. Weekend = very early walks in the park with my dog (2 mile loop) and major exercise indoors in the a/c.

tomorrow should be absolutely beautiful. love those early mornings with Molly and hopefully seeing wildlife (deer, turkeys, chipmunks...)

Yesterday went for a run at 2pm in the heat (England style!) included a couple of hills. Found it hard, but felt good to finish it.

Next race Tue 7th June 6.45pm so hopefully it will be cooling down by then!

Yes, it is getting hot in Central FL as well. The afternoon rain cooled a little but I went out about 5:00pm and sweat a huge amount. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day!

The heat is gonna make this hard! I run at night to help. Went early last night and still had lots of heat but didn't have the sun beating down on me.

Well, it's getting hot and humid here in South Florida, but I am getting out there early! How is everyone coping with warmer temps?
