Hi Kim. The puppy is not mine; it belongs to my brother. I forget the breed, but it's a boy and his name is Apollo. He's about 2 years old and very frisky--a great watchdog too.

The After the 8 Weeks forum is in the 8-weeks discussion forum I think. For sure it's in the Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge forum. I just clink on the link from my start page. Hope to see you there!

I haven't weighed myself this week ( I need a new battery... that or I lost 120 lbs in 2 days ;) ) but I can safely say I've lost at least 15 lbs.

I went from A1C 7.8 to 6.8
my triglicerides are down 258 points, LDL is ONE point from normal, HDL went up 2, cholesterol is down 33 points
:D

Charledia- BTW - what an adorable puppy dog!! What kind? Is it a girl or boy? What's it's name? how old? I love puppies, and have a 16 year old puppy myself! a lhasa apso named Bitsy.

The 8-week diabetes challenge really works! I started the challenge at the beginning of August, and I lost over 10 lbs, lost inches on my hips and thighs, lowered my A1C to 6.3, and have FBGs consistently under 120, actually closer to 110 usually. I lost and gained weight over the 8 weeks too, having lost 15 lbs. at one time, but now closer to 13. The doctor was talking about putting me on insulin before I took the challenge; now we're talking about maybe lowering the dose of some of my meds.

Since the 8 weeks ended, I'm still checking in in the After the 8 Weeks Forum to keep myself accountable. I'm still exercising 4 days/week and watching the carbs. I'm still trying to implement some of the strategies I learned while on the challenge more consistently--like taking some of the bread off sandwiches when I eat at restaurants and not ordering fries. All in all, the challenge was successful and I'm so happy I took it!

Thank you everyone! And let me say that this challenge and all of you involved and that are posting to it, have been such an inspiration to me! Nellinator - I tried to follow what my doctor planned for me. Although, I messed up alot!! I basically ate lower carbs, whole grains, fruit, veggies and high protein. I had two hard boiled eggs, two slices of turkey bacon and coffee every morning for breakfast. I also had 3 meals and 3 snacks a day. I find that as long as I have something every 3 hours or so, it staves off my hunger, and keeps me from going nuts and having a couple of ding dongs!!

Okay - I tried to post this the other day, but forgot to put in a subject, so I don't know if it really posted or not. So, here I go again! Although I didn't really lose any weight during the challenge (I lost and gained the same 5 pounds), I DID have some really great results! It just goes to show ya that you shouldn't pay sooooooooo much attention to the scale! I lost a total of 12 inches off my entire body in 8 weeks! Fantastic!

Also - most importantly - my HGA1C levels have come down! In January 2011 they were an abbysmal 11.2! Then, I lost 30 pounds, and in Aprill 2011 they came down to 7.2! My doctor was really proud of me. Late last week I went for my doc appointment again, having not lost/gained any more weight, and the doc was still proud of my accomplishments! I have a good doc, don't I??!!!? Anyway my HGA1C levels are now at 6.7! Yeah, me! At this rate, I could be below 6.0 sometime in 2012! Also, my chloresterol levels were at 172, with hdl at 68, and ldl at 90. This after having 2 hard boiled eggs almost every day for breakfast for the past 10 months!

So, I just wanted to make sure you all know that taking care of your diabetes is definitely worth it. Hang in there. It may be tough at times, but it's worth living a better life!
