Oh my. Santa's sleigh not only knocked me down, but has run me over! I am researching and planning for the FMD starting after Christmas, or maybe after New Years!

Merry Christmas! emoticon

I put up the Christmas tree while babysitting my 1 and 3 year old granddaughters today. Simone actually helped me put together (very old model of 50 pieces) the tree. She would not quit until the ornaments were hauled out of the attic and all put up. I was sweating! The bottom branches are loaded.

Tomorrow she will probably help me make a wreath.

She is really into it.

Get a good start for your week tomorrow!

Good morning!

We had a very nice Thanksgiving, although, it wasn't the one we planned! We were supposed to spend the day with some friends, but that morning they called to say that two of their family members were sick and running fevers. So, we stayed home and took a chicken out of the freezer, stuffed it with the stuffing I had made to take with us, made a small sweet potato casserole to go with it and that was our Thanksgiving dinner this year. It was wonderful - and we didn't overeat! We spent a nice relaxing day at home putting up our Christmas tree and decorations. In spite of our very low-key Thanksgiving, I managed to put on a couple pounds in November. I'm doing pretty well now though, and as of this morning was 173.2. My water aerobics pool just reopened after a couple month's of renovations so I started back there yesterday and I'm sure that will help. The instructor said she gained 7 pounds during the renovation! I'm eating low carb to no carb for as many meals as I can this month, and considering any Christmas parties/activities as 'treat' meals, then right back on plan at the next meal. I'm just trying to focus on moderation and not get into a 'blow it' kind of mentality. Our son/DIL/Emma will be here for 5 days over Christmas - that will be the most challenging time - but, at least I'm in control of the cooking and will do my best to stay on track.

Sharon - I drank coffee with cream and stevia for sweetener the whole time I did the FM diet. I just didn't think that part was totally necessary and did fine. I think your decision to wait until January for that diet is a good idea. December would be the hardest month of the year to follow a strict plan - after new years day you'll be much more in the mood to handle that challenge!

Sharon, really? Giving up coffee? I know folks that were thrown into major depression dropping coffee cold turkey. Take care that this is not a slide into a bad Holiday season.

I've been pretty good all month without much to show for it but staying out of the 170s.

Come join me, lets upset the body stall.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and now we are on the slide to Christmas and New Years! I am about to give it up -- my body LOVES the 170's....I have the Fast Metabolism Diet book and splurged to buy the protein powders for the program. I had a false start this week...discovered I need more organization around the kitchen! So I will take a break and start on January 2.

Giving up coffee will be the worst for me! emoticon

Anxious to see how you guys are doing! Sharon

Nice to have you back Cruise, I was looking for you right after Halloween. Getting back into the water aerobics should help you pull pull together the focus you are going to need. I like having targets but my body will respond only to my good eating habits.

A good four day streak is going to help me get over a three day lapse.

Laying plans today for Thanksgiving. My daughter-in-law sat down and took over a couple of the necessary dishes that can be done ahead. She is a super young woman my son is a lucky guy!

Hi, ladies - it looks like both of you have really been doing great - I'm so proud of you! And even through your birthday, Sharon - way to go! I hope it was a very happy one!

My body seems to have happily settled in around 172. I can't entirely blame it on a plateau, though, as I know I've relaxed my eating and exercise, too, and just feel comfortable here holding my loss of 23 pounds from this year. But, ultimately, my goal is to double that amount and I need to crank the heat and get moving again. I would be thrilled if I could reach the 160's by Thanksgiving - that's my first goal, then reach 165 by Christmas. It always helps me to post a holiday weight loss chart each year - so I'm putting one up here from Halloween til the New Year to help me stay motivated, focused and accountable. If anyone else would find that helpful - please join me in copying my chart and making it your own. Let's see if we can't continue to lose weight in SPITE of the holidays!

My hip has been acting up, so I've really laid low on the exercise the last month - I'm sure that hasn't helped. My WA pool is closed for 6 weeks of renovations, and from Oct 1 - Nov 15. I'm looking forward to getting back to that and I think that is the best form of exercise for me at this point.

HAPPY Holiday Weight-loss Chart:

Well my lifestyle was a bit high on carbs today but I was on the bike over two hours for 1300+ calories. Just think if I had not had the half sub, arg. Choices choices.

I should do okay Thanksgiving because I will be busy cooking. I'll just have to refuse the drinks.

Thank you for the birthday wishes! I am happy today, down 1.5 since last Weds. weigh in. My goal is to hit the 160's by the end of the year!!

I am getting use to no sugar in my coffee and am not craving desserts...I have some cookies I like in the cupboard, but they are not calling my name!!

I will eat what I want next weekend when out with family and on Thanksgiving, but I think I can keep it under control in between celebrations! My old mindset was that if I couldn't make it 100% then I had to wait till I could...that obviously does not work!!

Linda - what an active weekend you had! And 1 lb. a week -- that is great! emoticon Yes, we do need to get serious as we head into the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays!

I have been off sugar/desserts for a few days now except for a Birthday treat on Sunday. I did not gain on our trip to VA last weekend, and have since lost 1#. Did not seem like much till I looked back at where I was in September!

We can do this!

Wow what a weekend! Nice long bike ride Saturday then a Mexican dinner with friends and then we decided to take a hike today and that was a good up and down hill hike of 2 and a half hour then we decided we had enough leftovers from last night so we had Mexican again. Nice weekend with friends probably too much food but not easy to count. Hoping for a swim tomorrow to give the legs a break.

I'm expecting some of you to jump in and get serious here! LAY OFF the the Halloween candy!

KizzyM - time to let us know how you are doing? It's always time to start over!!

Mom - congratulations on the weight loss! Are you swimming again? I just started wearing my new Fitbit Flex 2 which is swim proof! Wore it today in the pool, It recorded my steps (distance) but did not pick up the minutes of exercise - I am still learning how to set it up!

I am back from vacation and glad to be home. No more traveling for awhile! I did maintain my weight so I am glad about that. My new plan: next 2 weeks, no sugar or desserts. I will allow one day for birthday cake as it will be my birthday! Then 2 weeks after that I will maintain the sugar-free status and go low to very low carb for two weeks...that will take me to Thanksgiving. I am not going to track food or water. I will swim 2X week and try to walk at least 3X week. I will update on SP every day to hold myself accountable!

It is cold and wet today - large, thick, icy raindrops that hinted of snow! emoticon

Yea! Weight loss! Weigh in Monday who's in?

No swims this past week. I had my dermatologist do a freeze treatment on all my old age spots and I look like I was hit with buchshot. I will resume the swims next week after all the scabs fall off. Aah aging!

Lovely day for a bike ride on Sunday even into the wind.

Hello Kissym, welcome. We can always use another supporter here.

I weighed in today at 170. No real loss. I'm sure going to have to start squeezing the calories out like I'm not supposed to have to. Join me!

I'm frustrated.

Thank you for the welcome! Today at the start of the week I weigh in at 212.6 Ibs from previous week I gained a little but this week is a new week....I will challenge myself.

This week I will drink at least 33 oz of h20 everyday. I can do this because I have a 33 oz h20 bottle at work. I haven't tried it but today is the start of a new week that I WILL start it today. I'm also going to keep better track of what I eat. I didn'track a day or 2 last week. And if it's not raining I WILL walk home from work this week.

Hi - I'm back! The week has flown by! We spent a wonderful 4-day weekend at a friend's lake house - the day before we left was spent cooking and packing for the trip and the day after was spent unloading and unpacking it all - then work yesterday. I took all the food and made things that we could eat most of the weekend, with a few things that were not on our plan. I think I did really well overall, although, it was still more than I would normally eat and as I expected, the scale shows it for my weekly weigh-in today - up 1.6 to 171.8. But - I'll take it and move forward - getting back to eating more carefully and exercising again. I am really focusing in on reaching that 169 - I want to see that number in the next week or two!

Sharon - I'm glad you had a good time on your vacation! Don't be discouraged - those extra pounds will fall right back off once you get back to what you were doing before you left.

Linda - scales can do crazy things sometimes, that's for sure! Keep fighting the good fight - I know you'll be back in the 60's soon! I'm not buying any Halloween candy - we've lived here for almost 30 years and I think we've had maybe two kids come by in all that time! My street is kind of set back from the main road and I think the kids go to the bigger neighborhoods . Whenever we buy it, we just end up eating it, and wasting our money! Since I'm the only one left in my office, I won't have to face anyone else's candy there this year either, thankfully!

Well, my vacation did me no favors with a 5# weight gain! I am reading and planning for the Fast Metabolism program to begin October 31!

Cruise...sounds like you have a solid weekend plan for the food. S4aying on track should be easier with your own cooking. Line dancing is fun, that was a creative idea by the folks who run your workout site.

My weight went up by a half pound this week. I don't know why.

Hi - I enjoyed reading about your families and the war stories!

Linda - congratulations on getting back to the 160's! That's a great accomplishment and one I'm trying very hard to reach myself! You have blazed the path and I hope to follow you there soon. Keep up the good work!

Sharon - it looks like you are doing well, too - even though you had a small gain, your general track has been going down and that's what counts. The scale will have it's days of slight ups and downs along the way, but it's the overall trend that matters! I hope you have a great time on your vacation. Stay strong so you can maintain your progress!

You are right - the Fast Metabolism Diet book is very strict - I have not been as strict with it as she is, but have just used it as an general guide for rotating through the various high carb/low fat, low carb/low fat, and low carb/high fat meal mapping idea. I'm sure you'll lose lots more if you follow it more strictly though. But, even doing it much more loosely, I've lost a couple more pounds this month, so I'm happy with that.

The wellness center where I go to water aerobics has shut their pool down for the month of October because they are going to be resurfacing the pool and the area around it. Instead, they are offering some other classes and types of exercise. I'm excited because one of the offerings is line dancing, which I've never done but always wanted to learn. So, I went to my first class last night and it was really fun - and I DID work up a sweat! I'm hoping this 'change up' of my routine will be good for bumping up my metabolism and knocking off a few more pounds!

My hubby and I are renting a friends lake house this weekend, and our son/wife from TN are going to meet us there. I'm really excited! I'm bringing and cooking all the food, and have picked things I think they will enjoy, but that also go well with our new way of eating so we can stay on plan. I offered to do all the food because I knew it would allow me to be in control of what temptations are brought into the house. I'm planning to take some long country walks for exercise and the rest of it will just be relaxing time on the pontoon boat, fishing, sitting by the outdoor fireplace, sipping coffee and playing games! We'll be gone Friday through Monday and I won't have access to a computer, but I'll let you know how it goes when I get back!

I've been in IN for over 20 years and stll haven't gotten to Clifty Falls! That is a pretty part of IN.

I have gotten to the Middlebury area a few times. They have a nice Pumpkin vine Bike Trail there.

What great stories from our parents! You are in Indiana, right? We travel thru often. DH has cousin in Middlebury...we like to visit Clifty Falls State Park in Madison. Brown County is beautiful.

My dad started taking flying lessons as soon as he graduated from HS. That way when the war started he was able to breeze into the Air Corp. I think they recognized what a hard ass he was and made him an instructor trainor for B25s. So he was state side taking his chances in flight with all the beginners. In '45 mom joined him after they were married. After the war he went home and started out as a milkman flying a box truck.

I was always going to retire to Michigan.

My grandfather got a job at Ford - there were no jobs in the South. Not sure if they did war production or not. My mom worked for Mr. Briggs of Briggs Stadium (changed to Tiger Stadium). My grandfather had poor vision in one eye so a friend of his took the physical for him and then gave him the date and time to report for work! My DH family also came to Michigan from Pennsylvania when his dad joined the Navy... so the war actually brought us together!

My dad enlisted and had to have his dad's permission - he did not finish high school. He told me that he was certain he would never come home. Patriotism was so high at that time! He served in the South Pacific, he never talked about it but I think he went in after a skirmish to "clean up"... though he did get a medal (not sure which one, just below Purple Heart). He died in 2009 at 85 with Lewey Body Dementia. Mom just died last year at almost 91. She did not see him once he shipped overseas...he sent letters and cards home but they were heavily screened and many things blocked out...she did not know where he was. No cable news, that's for sure!

My dad was in the Army Aircorps....at his 95th birthday he was wondering while he is still around. Your mom was lucky he made it back. Did your grandparents move to Mi to work for the war machine factories? My mom was testing guns on a line in Grand Rapids.

I guess I am showing my age...World War II. Dad joined the Marines when he was 17...they got married when he was on furlough in 1943. He was gone for 3 years. Mom moved here with her parents.

Good day.....whenever I try to reduce my meat eating I seem to have a low protein day and inget hungry in the evening. I'll go to bed early to try to cope with it. My first 10ndays were within my guidelines and that is great.

Sharon after which war did your family move to Mi. I findnthat statement a little curious since wenhave been innso many wars! Brighton is a nice area but I love the west side of the state.

Linda - glad the scale is moving the right way! Keep up the good work. I was born in Detroit and now live in Brighton, which is about 2 hours from Grand Rapids. My family moved here from Kentucky during the war and most of us have remained here.

CP - I have browsed the FM book and look forward to hearing how you are doing. It is a very regimented program and I am planning to give it a try starting October 31. That is after vacations and my birthday. The last 3 days will be over Thanksgiving but I think I can manage it. I host dinner so no one will even notice what I eat! It would be easier if my DH would join me, but he doesn't even want to talk about it! I have a good friend who goes to water aerobics with me and I am hoping we can do it together. I think that giving up caffeine, sugar and wheat will actually be good - I am touting it as an "elimination" diet rather than weight loss!

So far this week I have lost the extra "salt" weight I gained and now I hope to just maintain through my vacation. We will be leaving this weekend and home on the 10th.

Sharon I look forward to hearing any Michigan stories you have. I grew up in Grand Rapids and spent summers at a lake near Newaygo. It was a great life, I always thought I'd do that with my family but we have lived in OH, WI and now IN. I have sisters in Kalamazoo (also dad) and Big Rapids. We were at South Haven the other day and Lake Michigan is still warm enough to swim. The area was taken over by Boomers and very pleasant.

Welcome Linda - I am looking forward to knowing you better. I live in Michigan, where does your dad live?

CP - you are just doing awesome -- I just ordered the FM book on Amazon and will have it by Friday ... love that Amazon Prime! I am not doing so well. I have tried going low carb twice and after 3 days I get totally out of sorts, then crave (and eat) a lot of carbs. Of course my weight goes right and up stays there!! I think this 28 day program will work for me. I am going to start right away, even though vacation is coming up!

My WIFI here is not cooperatimg so getting info out is a problem. Ive been sharing meals out with dad so that saves me quite a few calories. Not as easy to get workouts either...I'll try to get walks in.

Linda - great to see you are off to a fresh start! You'll be back in the 60's in no time flat! I hope you enjoy the time with your dad. I lost my dad 30 years ago, but I still miss him like it was yesterday!

It was a good weekend here - still hot in GA - 90's...so you northern girls need to send some cooler air our way! I went to water aerobics (WA) on Saturday and hubby and I went to the gym after church yesterday. Because I started the FM diet on a Monday, for the next month I'm going to include a Monday morning weigh-in to reflect my progress with that. Only a 1/2 pound this first week - but, I'll take whatever I can get as long as it's moving in the right direction!

Have a great week, ladies!

Thanks for the BIG greetings! I lovenyour plans. I am coming in without a plan. I especially like your high metabolism routine. I find that when I go meatless my diet is high carb and lower protein. A friend of mine pretty much eats that way and she dropped the weight and has keptmit off for severalmyears now. It is just routine for her now and she doesn't feel she is missing out on foods. I may try and follow something similar. I'll label them so I know what the mix is. I don't think I will be planning meals a month in advance. For the next few days I'm visiting my dad in MI so I'll work at finding something that works on the road. He won't be making any big chocolate cakes though. Today was great! Except my weight is 171.5. One and a half pounds over my stop and get a grip number.

Linda - it's GREAT to see you. Sharon and I just recently came back and we'd be thrilled to have you working with us again!

Sharon - it sounds like two nice trips for you in October. I'm sure your brother will be so happy to have the company. You will just have to let your friend in VA know in advance that you are trying to lose and to please not fix any desserts. I'm sure she'll feel relieved and grateful not to have to make something special! Congratulations on losing another 1/2 pound - that's terrific - keep up the good work!

I've already lost a couple more pounds that aren't even reflected on my chart yet, but I'm excited - this morning I was 171.2 - a new low! I don't know if I told you yet or not that I read a book last month called The Fast Metabolism diet. It's a 28-day plan to heal and speed up your metabolism. I laid out a 4-week menu to go along with that plan and started it this past Monday. Basically, the structure is this:

Mon and Tues - high carb/low to no fat
Wed and Thurs - protein and low-glycemic veggies (low carb & low fat)
Friday thru Sun - low carb/higher fat

She said this switching up of fuels, keeps your body's needs met, keeps you satisfied, but also keeps it looking for and switching up fuel sources, which speeds up your metabolism. Having done the 'thinking' part to make up the menus, now all I have to do is follow them and see what happens! So far, so good!

Happy Friday, and have a good weekend!

123MOM - we're glad you are starting again - that's a big secret to overall progress.

CP - emoticon on the weight loss! Keep it up!!

I did lose 0.5 pound this week - it was a rough start with only one all GREEN day! Moving forward though. Water aerobics started today and it is a great workout. I would like to get 5 GREEN days each week for the next two weeks as we head off for a vacation the end of the month. We are going to see my brother in Missouri the first week of October. It is his birthday on the 5th. If you remember, his wife suddenly died last January and he lives about 6 hours from his daughter. He is doing well and we communicate daily -- The third weekend in October we are visiting an old friend in Virginia - she is also trying to cut down her eating so I am hoping she doesn't bake a big chocolate cake like she did the last time!!!

I just had a new 10 day weigh-in - and lost 1.6 pounds. I'm happy with that! I want to get to 169 by October 6th when we go to a lake house for the weekend with our son and his wife.

Off to work I go - wish I could stay here and chat! Have a great Monday and a week of progress ahead!

It was back to work for me yesterday. I work 3 days a week - usually M, W and F. However, my boss is semi-retired and when he is out of town, I can work from home. Between him being gone for the past two weeks and the holiday weekend, I hadn't been to the office since August 22. It's kind of hard to get back in the groove!

Today is my weekly weigh-in and I weighed in at 173.6, a loss of 1.2 pounds for this week. I'll take it! I'm working toward reaching the 160's by the first weigh-in of October. 4 weeks to go!

Ah, Sharon - those leaves starting to turn sounds nice! I'm originally from Minnesota, so I can relate to your Fall descriptions. It's much different here in GA. Our leaves won't start turning for at least another month or so, and they peak out about Thanksgiving, but the colors are not as brilliant as up North! September will still be a pretty hot month, but, at least, every once in awhile, we'll feel a little coolness in the air about 6 a.m. and that's an encouragement that in a few weeks (October) we'll start to see Fall! :) Good job on avoiding that chocolate cherry cake - it sounds delicious and I'm sure that was a huge temptation! Way to go!

We ended up going to the lake yesterday for Labor Day (about an hour away) with our little fishing boat and puttering around for a few hours. It was very relaxing and fun. We grilled some pork chops, had a salad and 1/4 of a baked potato for dinner last night. Yesterday, the scale had dropped to 173.8 - a new low, and this morning, I was happy to see it holding pretty close to that at 174. I hope these numbers will stick around until my weigh-in on Thursday! I'll start trying to count my water's better today. I'm heading out now to my Water Aerobics class - have a great GREEN day!

Happy Labor Day! We have had beautiful cooler weather for a few days but hot and muggy starting tomorrow. It won't last long though and soon will be remembering these days! Maple trees are beginning to turn orange already! I really do love Fall...we are planning two short vacations in October, one to Virginia to visit old friends and then to Missouri to see my brother for a week or so. Yesterday was spent with my younger brother and family - it was a nice visit and I made a wonderful chocolate cherry cake and did not have a single bite! Major victory for me. Though I did mess around with some tortilla chips and dip! Too much salt.

CP - 6 pounds for this month is a lofty goal...but you do inspire me. I also want to read through the Bible so will make a note each day to keep myself accountable.

DAY......DATE...... FOOD ..... ACTIVITY
1 ..........9/1/16...... Yellow ..... GREEN
2 ..........9/2/16...... Yellow ..... Yellow
3 ..........9/3/16...... Yellow ..... GREEN
4 ..........9/4/16...... Yellow ..... Red
5 ..........9/5/16......

START WEIGHT 9/1/16 - 179

CODE: RED means eating off program and little to no exercise
YELLOW means efforts just ok, but will only maintain current status
GREEN means eating on program and at least 20 minutes of vigorous exercise

GOAL: Five all GREEN days each week!

Good morning and happy Labor Day weekend! We aren't doing much other than just enjoying a long weekend at home. I hope to get caught up on some things that fell behind while we were on vacation in August, and get a menu made up for the month of September, then do a grocery list and get to the store. We didn't end up getting much rain from the hurricane - we were just on the edge of it, so only got 1/2 inch whereas towns only an hour away got up to 6 inches! But, I'm thankful for what we got - we needed it!

This is a five-week month for me (5 Thursday weigh-ins) and I intend to make the most of it! My goal is to lose 6 pounds and get into the 160's! That's a lofty goal, but I'm going to strive for it! Have a good weekend!

Good morning - it's September 1st! To me, that's the start of Fall and I'm ready to start seeing some cooler temps, although, here in GA, that might still be awhile in coming. It's supposed to be a very rainy day tomorrow with Hurricane Hermine heading our way from the Gulf of Mexico. Up to 6 inches of rain they are saying - but we really need it, so I'm thankful! It's been so dry and hard to keep the grass green with just a sprinkler!

Thursday is my normal weigh-in day, and I'm happy to report I lost -1.2 pounds for the month of August - in spite of 2-weeks of vacation! Woohoo! I weighed in at 174.8 - which is just a tad over 25 pounds lost since January of 2015, and 20 of that lost since the beginning of May this year. Still another 30 to go to reach my goal, but I aim to get there! I really want to kick it into high gear between now and Thanksgiving. It would be fun to be in the mid to low 160's for the holidays this year! I've updated my chart below and will keep recording my weight here every 10 days and leaving the 100 day increments that tracks my long-term progress since I started this streak in January of 2015. I thought about just starting a new one, but I promised myself back then that I would quit starting over all the time - instead, I want to focus on FINISHING, no matter how long it takes!

Sure, Sharon - you can put me back on as a leader if you like - wouldn't hurt to have two people covering it - we both need to stay active that way, right? :) Have a great day - and Happy September to you - let's make it a great one!

Happy SEPTEMBER! I am happy you are joining me CP -- I slipped up this past week! Back up to 179 but I am not going to record it....Like you, I am starting over today! I am going to the pool this AM and will shop for fruits and vegies while I am out. Congratulations on keeping that weight off during vacations! That is a great accomplishment. I will send out the e-mail...do you want me to add you back as a leader? The weather here is cooler and we did get out for a walk last night. Have a great day!

Hi, Sharon - it's good to have you back! I would love to work with you again. Thanks for taking over the leadership of the team. I had decided during a stressful time to cut back and work with only one private team with a couple local friends. I was also having trouble posting as my computer was very slow and didn't seem to want to load all the ads that were popping up. I was happy today to see the new 'premium' option for a one time fee that eliminates all the ads. Now things pop right up and I think I can handle getting back on board here as posting will be so much faster and easier.

Congratulations on your huge success last week! You said 5 pounds, but on your chart, it looks like 6? Either way, it's wonderful and I'm so happy for you!

While I've been away over the past few months, my husband and I have gotten on a good track together - changing the way we eat and starting to exercise together. We have cut out all sugar and processed food and are eating more protein and less carbs overall. We started going to Planet Fitness three days a week faithfully - no excuses allowed unless we have a fever or are throwing up! From May through July he lost 24 pounds going from 218 - 194 so he has already reached his goal. I lost 20 pounds from 195.4 - 175.4! Anyone on this team who knows my history of slow to non-existent weight loss, knows that's really an accomplishment for me and I'm thrilled!

For the last month, we've been on vacation for almost 3 weeks driving to TN and IN to visit our kids and our granddaughter, Emma, who just turned 2. We ended with a time at Tybee Island on the GA coast visiting my husband's brother's family at the beach. When I got home, I got a cold and so have laid pretty low this week. Thus, I only lost -1.2 pounds in August, but I'm happy just to have a loss at all instead of the 5 pound gain I would normally have come back from vacation with, so for me, that's a win!

I'm ready to continue on now that September is here - and aim for the 160's! I'm not counting anything anymore - just eating differently - and exercising 30 - 60 minutes a day consistently. I like your idea of red, yellow and green light eating days - so I'll use that, too, along with recording how many minutes of exercise I did, water intake and F/V eaten. I think I'll start my chart on Sept. 1st.

So, now it seems we are both at exactly the same weight - 176 each! It will be fun to work with you again and hopefully, some of our other old buddies will come back to work with us this fall, also! Maybe as the leader, you can send out an email to all the old members and let them know we are starting up again for anyone interested in streaking together this fall? Let's see what we can accomplish by the end of the year!

A good week with 5 pounds gone! Basically I have cut down on carbs and sugar though I have eaten well. I have decided not to track/log food or measure steps right now -- my goal is to establish habits that fit my lifestyle and that don't trigger my rebellion button! emoticon

A good first day...walking was more sauntering but better than sitting!

My plan is to eat moderately and exercise within my lifestyle -- when I lost and regained the last 20 it was all by eating so that is the key for me. I will use the "traffic light" scoring plan and give myself a code for each day.

Red light for a day that I know will cause weight gain.
Yellow light for a day when I will maintain.
Green light for a day that will move my closer to my goal.

Hello - I am more than ready to start Streaking again and hope someone will join me! I offered to be Team Leader and was surprised when I was instantly accepted - I am glad to help out. I have been completely off program since last Fall -- I had lost to my all-time low of 159 during 8 months of caregiving for my mom. After her passing last August, then loss of my SIL in January, I lost my focus and turned to food for comfort -- I have not been exercising much either -- any little excuse ... So I am now up over 20# and doing a LOT of sitting...my wake-up call is my upcoming 70th birthday in October...it is 73 days away from today. My goal is to lose about 1#/week or to be in the low 170's by the end of October and 160's by January. My plan is to keep calories at 1400 or below, walk or swim 5-6 days/week and track my streaks here.

June that cycling calorie weeks is interesting. I'm afraid on a week off id gain back all my losses. When I get a streak going I'll report. Just got back from treating my dad to a weekend of outings from the retirement home. We went out for a meal each time so that was a problem.

Welcome back Cruise. I guess March is going to have to be a barn burner for us to get back on track. My back is improving and i haven't had to cut back on activity, just the typenof activity, eat is still the problem. I've had three days of great eatingnin a row. So I'm streaking again but I haven't gotten my mantra of eat only when sitting and eating slowly in line yet.

Let's see if we all can pull some action together!

Hi, everyone - sorry for being gone so long. I haven't been tracking at all this month and haven't had much to post. Perhaps that means I needed to post more than ever!

Linda - it sounds like you had quite an adventure traveling across the country with your daughter! I'm sorry to hear you have been having pain with the nerve in your back - ouch! It's frustrating to have the 'want to' in your head to move and not be able to because some part of your body is acting up. I hope you feel better soon.

June - same for you. I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well - and I can certainly relate to changing your mind about what you are going to do. I think that's quite human to constantly be re-evaluating our options and trying to come up with a better plan. For me, I know what works best, but it's not always possible, so I need to have a Plan B in place so I know what to fall back on, instead of falling OFF the wagon completely. I think your plan of eating in your SP range and getting in some walking everyday is a good one. I lost the most weight I ever lost in my life following that plan (36 pounds). It works when you stick to it!

So, speaking of getting back on the wagon - I will probably have to wait until March because my sister is coming tomorrow and staying for a week. I always struggle when she's here with food and exercise. But, I will just try to keep my portion sizes small and get in a walk or bike ride whenever I can. I'll get back to my chart as soon as possible.

Uugh I am still not feeling completely well, and have changed my mind so many times about what I'm going to do, but I am going for a fresh new start, and from tomorrow I will be counting calories - aiming for the bottom of the range suggested by spark, but eating up to the top of the range if I feel I need to, and a minimum of 15 minutes walking a day, but more if I can

Geez...I over did it again last Friday and have an irritated nerve in my back. Swam today and that was okay but nipped the end of my thumb with a knife so now swim will be out for a few days. Arg. I'd better get the caloriesvdown more.

I'll check in again.

Will be starting again on Wednesday - just going to track minutes walked and number of snacks (aiming for none) - that will be enough to get started with.

Just popping in to say that I haven't forgotten this! Still not back to full health but did a 15 minute walk today. It was hard work and I'm looking forward to being back to my old self. Diet is also not too good at the mo. I will be so glad to get everything started again.

Swam om Thursday then over did the lifting at the ymca on Friday. I've been hobbling as my calves keep tightening up. Today I rode 25 miles and that eased up the pain somewhat. Ah the benefits of cross training.

Unfortunately girl scout cookies arrived and they are messing with me.

Hello, I'm back too.
SHARON so sorry about your SIL. Prayers for your brother and the family. I just found out my SIL's brother is ina similar situation. He has an aggressive rare stomach cancer and he is in stage 4.

June it sounds like you will be a sound partner here. We all need to get going on our quest to lose.

Cruise I enjoyed your cruise adventure, always wondered what happens on a cruise.

I just got back from a nice drive cross country with my daughter. She had to get back to Yosemite NP after her Christmas hiatus. It may be the last long vacation with her for a long time. We drove from Indy to Knoxville to visit a friend there. Did a day of touring and a down day there for a two inch snowfallnthat closed down the city.

Next we were of to Hot Springs and spent a day touring and enjoying the bath houses. I didn't know those existed.

Then we had two long driving days across the plains and landed in Flagstaff to visit another friend and hike the Walnut Canyon.

A night in Lake Havasu was next. I didn't see the point of London Bridge but enjoyed the drive across the Mojave then through Walker Pass and on to Mariposa CA. We snowshoed in Yosemite and enjoyed hiking after all that driving. After a few days and birding some NWR we arrived in Sacramento to visit my brother and then fly home. It was a whirlwind but a good time spent with my youngest.

I'm back and exercising and eating healthy. My kiddo likes beer and pub food.

Hi - I'm HOME from my cruise! I was so happy to find so many posts were made while I was gone and to catch up with how the week has gone for you.

Sharon - I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL - my goodness, that was so fast! I'm sure your brother must still be in a little shock. And how sad he had to move into their new house alone. But, maybe it might be easier than living in the old familiar house without her. I will be praying for him.

Linda - I hope you had/or are still having a good time in AZ! I'm sure your daughter enjoyed having you will her for that long trip!

June - I'm sorry you've been sick and hope you will be back to health and strength again soon! That sounds like a good deal at WW - I can't wait to watch your progress on that 10 pound offer! You can DO it!

Well, where do I start? The cruise was just wonderful in everyway - we had such an amazing time! Here is a recap of it - I'll try to be brief, but it might still be long. You can skip reading it if you don't want or have time to!

Day 1 - Saturday - the first day, we drove 4 hours to Jacksonville. The boarding only took 45 minutes from the parking lot to the ship and we were eating lunch on board by 12:30. We got settled into our room, and did the safety briefing, then cruised slowly through the long canal which is always fun - I love the excitement of feeling the ship start to move! We ate in the dining room the first night and met our new table mates - three very nice couples. We went to the 'welcome aboard' show that evening.

Day 2 - Sunday - day at sea. We explored the ship, went to a class at the spa, played some cribbage in the library, got dressed up in the late afternoon, had pictures made at about 6 different photography places, then ate prime rib in the dining room for the formal dinner. That prime rib was the best meal of the whole week - it just melted in your mouth! After dinner, we went to the comedy club, and then stopped to listen to a good band for awhile on the way back to our cabin.

Day 3 - Nassau day - We found a wonderful man who took us on a 3 hour taxi tour of the island. Toward the end of the tour, it started raining, and by the time we finished the tour, it was a downpour. We had to walk quite a long walk back to the ship and got totally drenched and cold, so had to take showers and change clothes as soon as we got back to our room. Lunch that day was from the hamburger grill, and we got dinner from the buffet and then took our plates out on the back of the ship and felt the breeze and watched the lights of the island fade slowly for a couple hours as we pulled away. After dinner, we sat in the hot tub on the serenity deck - had it all to ourselves under the stars and it was beautiful!

Day 4 - Freeport day - this was our dolphin excursion day. The ship actually cancelled it, but then we found a guy outside the ship who took us to the same place for $120 LESS than Carnival offered it! It was a warm, sunny day and the entire time on that excursion was fun and delightful! The dolphins were amazing and we got to get in the water with them, pet them and get our picture made with them. We ate dinner from the buffet on the back deck again that evening as we pulled away from Freeport. Then went to an art display of Thomas Kinkaid paintings, a Hasbro Game Show in the theatre, watched the Newlywed Game after that, and then ate a little from the midnight Mexican buffet. It was such a fun day!

Day 5 - We got up early and went up to the top deck with a cup of coffee and watched the sunrise. Nobody else was there, just us - it was almost like a dream! After breakfast, we did a three-hour behind the scenes tour of the ship which was very interesting. At the lunch buffet they had a chocolate fountain - yum. We ate lunch outside on the deck and enjoyed the view. After lunch, we took a nice nap, then went to another game show, ate our final dinner in the dining room, went to a couple more comedy shows, stopped to look at/buy some pictures, and then had to get to our room and get the suitcases packed up and put outside the door....hating the thought that it was already over!

I know I walked quite a bit each day, but didn't really do the dedicated walking I had planned on. We climbed more stairs than I wanted to, and my hip and knees weren't too pleased with that. I tried to keep track of the food for the first couple days, but then I stopped - just too hard to carry my notebook everywhere, and by the time we went to bed each night, I was so tired and just fell asleep. In the morning, we'd get up shower and run off to do something. I weighed in this morning at 191.2 - which was up about a pound from last week's gain, so for the year so far I have gained 1.7 pounds. I didn't pig out, and tried to eat small portions, and to not eat unless I was hungry and stop as soon as I was satisfied. Yet, I know I still ate more than I would normally eat at home, just because we ate 3 bigger meals a day - full breakfasts, lunches and dinners with desserts and pastries, ice cream machines, etc. All in all, I think I did OK considering being in that kind of free (delicious) food everywhere - 24/7 environment! I would give myself a C if I had to do a report card. Far from perfect, yet didn't totally go bonkers, either.

It's a new week - a fresh page. It's what we do MOST of the time that counts, so be encouraged - the year has only just begun! I will begin my charts again today!

Hello - glad to be back. We have been in Missouri - my SIL died unexpectedly of a very aggressive cancer - she went to ER with abdominal pain on December 29 and died on January 22! She was 66 and diabetic, but otherwise in good health. We spent time helping my brother move as they had just bought a new house. His daughter and grandsons are about 6 hours from him, so we are all keeping in touch with him every day - he is going to stay busy which will be good.

I am starting my streak tomorrow!

Calories turned out a bit scary so I am joining WeightWatchers tomorrow as they have a "lose 10 pounds in 8 weeks and get 2 months money back" offer. I will re-start my streak after tomorrow's weigh in and meeting (when I find out what exactly I'm supposed to be counting - walk minutes and points I guess)

I'm in Flagstaff, AZ and trying to keep up my check in streak going. Eating has been in the healthy range u tilnyesterday. I've got digestive issues today so will probaby exist on yogurt as we will be continuing on to Lake Havasue then the Yosemite area. I decided to keep my daughter company on her trip back.

I'll check in when I get there.

Its been an interesting trip as we went to Knoxville first and got delayed by a 2" snow there. Taking our time and trying to make a vacation out of it. We stopped for a couple days in Hot Springs for the spas.

Good Monday morning!

And, she's OFF - go, June!!

I read a good article on SP this morning - it was the first thing that popped up when I opened up the website today. It was actually a question that was in the 100 Days of Weight Loss book I mentioned yesterday. Are you INTERESTED or COMMITTED? Lots of good things to think about in this article so I'm posting the link to it in case you want to read it, too? I especially like the thought that the difference between the two results in failure or success. Most everyone is 'interested' in getting healthy and losing weight, but a 'committed' person will work their way through it even when it becomes difficult, inconvenient or frustrating. Wow - that's so true! Isn't that when we usually give up? I'm going to print this article, read it multiple times, and mark it up until I get this concept imbedded deeply in my brain!

June - WELCOME!! I'm so happy you are going to join us and have already set up your tracker! I'm looking forward to getting to know you! I noticed you said you are going to track for at leat 100 days. Have you ever read that little book called '100 Days of Weight Loss'? It's a great little book with 100 little daily lessons/encouragement that you might really enjoy. I look forward to seeing your progress over that 100 days! Enjoy the journey and may it take you far!

Oma - Sounds like you are doing really well on your new plan. It's so encouraging to see results like you are and actually feeling changes for the better in your health - that's great motivation to keep it up!

On our cruise, we are going to the Bahama's - leaving from Jacksonville, FL which is a 4 hour drive from our house. We will leave our house about 7 a.m., get to the port about 11 and hope to be eating lunch by noon on the ship. The cruise is 5 nights. I will take your suggestion and cut my food in half, and I plan to get in lots of walking and go to the gym and do some bike riding, too. We have booked a dolphin excursion that I'm really exciting about, too!

My company's annual shareholder meeting is next week, so this has been a crazy busy couple weeks at work. In addition to that, we have been looking for a new couch/recliner so I've spent a good bit of time searching through furniture stores. With those two things on my mind and consuming my time, I haven't been as focused as I should have been lately as my chart reflects below. But, we did finally find some furniture we really like and it's comfortable and a good price, too, so I'm excited about that!

CP, where are you going on your cruise? We went a year and a half ago. It was wonderful. One suggestion, there is so much food and it is fun to try it, but divide it in half and don't eat any more. There were 6 course dinners every night, plus food, food, food, so be careful and make a plan. I gained 8 pounds and it was only a week!

I'm on week 3 of a gluten free, dairy free, soy free, sugar free, coffee free, diet. I feel GREAT! It really started to make a difference this week. I've started to sleep through the night after 20 years of struggles. I just can't get over the difference. So thankful.

I had gone to a natropath while in the States and he gave me some good ideas, a new diet, and some suppliments. It was hard to stay perfect on it, but now I have kept real close on it.

I am also getting ready to go to the States, again. My DS is graduating from basic training on Feb 4th, so we are going to be there for that. Only one week. I get to go through jet lag twice in short order!

In CHRIST I can!

Hi - Saturday morning now - the sun is shining and it's a beautiful day!

Two weeks from today we'll be leaving for Jacksonville to board our cruise ship! I can't wait! My bag is already mostly packed - and just a couple more things to buy like a couple new nightgowns. Going to Walmart this morning for some final shopping.

I didn't get in any exercise yesterday - worked all day, then went straight to a friend's house or a game night and didn't get home til 11:30 - so the day was shot - but fun! I have to work on another shareholder mailing from home today so won't get to WA I'm afraid, but I will take a walk around the neighborhood instead and enjoy a bit of this beautiful day!

Hi, friends! It's been a super busy week and I've had a hard time finding time to post everyday like I want to. I've done fairly well though, and the scale has come down a little. I have two days left of this 10 day stretch, so hopefully, I will have a good number to report to you on Saturday morning!

I have some good news and some bad news...bad news first. Our church announced the dates for our annual women's conference with a really great speaker and it falls on the day of the 5K I was planning to do so I won't be able to do it now. The good news is that the special speaker is someone my sister and I just love, so I've invited my sister to come down from Indiana for the conference and to spend a week with me! She's looking into plane tickets now and hopefully will be able to come. It's just a week before my birthday, so it will kind of be like a special birthday present to have her come and be able to go to the women's conference with me. I'll have to look for another 5K to do. Having my sister here will be a major challenge eating-wise though as she is heavier than I am and not at all interested in weight-loss or exercise. She likes all my favorite foods, and expects me to cook up the things we both love, and I enjoy doing that for her, but it means a week of very tempting and not-so-slimming foods. But, I'll meet that challenge when it gets here! For now, I have a cruise coming up as my current challenge. One day at a time!

CP - mostly ran them, but the 10K was super hard as it was in the mountains, so walked half of that one. I worried about being last my first race too, but I have never been last. But main thing is to finish. You will do fine.

It's Monday and a new week begins! Yesterday, I left my Fitbit on the charger and forgot to put it on all day so I don't have a number for my steps. I hate it when I do that - I feel lost without my Fitbit on!

Oma - that's a LOT of races - wow! Do you normally run or walk them? I hope there are other people only walking, because I am NOT a runner, to be sure, and I hope I'm not the last one to finish!

Linda - so nice your hubby will exercise with you some - I think that's terrific. My hubby is a very hard worker, but he's not an 'exercise' kind of guy. He doesn't walk or ride bikes, things like that, but I know he does keep busy in the garage and doing yard work, so hopefully, that counts for something.

I would not consider it a successful weekend as I didn't plan, track or exercise much. I had to bring some work home from the office and spent all day Saturday working on it. I will try to get with my plan today - no, better yet, I WILL get with my plan today - starting with a short walk this morning before I go to work. It's COLD out there, so I'll have to bundle up in my heavy winter jacket and mittens! Tomorrow, I will get back to WA. I'm finding it really hard to get started on some of my plans for the new year - old habits are so established and it's hard to break out of my old routine and the things I naturally fall back to without thinking. I guess that's why they say it takes 21 days to make a new habit. It takes a lot of thought and discipline at first, and then, once it's a habit, it's easier. I will keep working on being more INTENTIONAL this week!

The race sounds great and the workout schedule should be helpful but most helpful will be the buddies you are doing it with. That is GREAT!

My buddy is mostly my husband so he is there all the time but he frequently is the reluctant one. He wants to clobber me everytime I say 'today is a good biking day'. We are hitting the workout centers in the area and have been getting some lifting in. A biking friend of mine broke a couple of bones in her foot on Christmas and petitioned me to take her swimming so she could get some cardio. She can swim but I'm giving her lots of stroke tips and how to use props so she doesn't have to kick that foot. It has been fun having her to swim with for the past two weeks. My DH has begged off a few times and I'm getting double time in.

I'm not doing great yet on eating sitting down or slowly. THat is a mindset I have to just DO.

Perhaps I could do a streak of that? I've already popped my hand into the nut jar for a walking snack today 'cause I was soooo hungry after the morning workout and had to wait for DH to get ready. I did do the right thing right after and sat down to half a grapefruit and a cup of milk. Sounds horrible but I don't get that at a restaurant....oh not counting calories today.

You will love doing a race.
I did a turkey trot with my daughter when I was in the states. I don't remember how many races I have done so far but I think 8. Most of them 5k but one was a 10K and one was 6K.

Good Saturday morning, friends! It was great to get on here this morning and see posts from all of you - love it! It sounds like everyone has a good plan in place and the key will be following through with that plan consistently throughout the year, but I'm going to just focus on one week and 10 day periods at a time! I can't achieve the long term goal without achieving many shorter term goals.

Yesterday I had to work and my biggest mistake was agreeing to go out for lunch with my co-workers to Old Times Country Buffet. I estimated the calories I ate were 1250 for that one meal - yikes that adds up FAST!! Then, I had to work very late and didn't get home 'til 8:15 and we ended up setting up our new TV, so that took up rest of the evening and I didn't ride my exercise bike as planned because DH needed my help and the living room was a mess with all the TV stuff (old and new) spread across the room. But, my weight was still in the 180's this morning, and I'm going to do better today!

The wellness center I go to for water aerobics (WA) has a 5K Walk/Run scheduled for the end of February that I want to participate in. I've never done one before, I don't plan to run, but I'd love to start doing some of these and this will be my first try at it to establish a base line and then I can try to improve on my times in the future. I'm going to pick up the training schedule they have today and get started. Two friends are going to do it with me and I'm looking forward to it!

Nice to see you all again.
I don't even want to look back at last year's weight. I am Sur I gained and I am working on taking care that the scale goes down again.
I gained about 10 pounds in those 4 months, and am down 9 of those so routine helps a lot.

I met with a naturopath while in the States and he believes I have adrenal fatigue. So now I am on a no sugar, no coffee, no dairy, no grains....surprisingly, it is going rather well. I am on some suppliments too. I am follies the plan, and then on Monday I am doing a 5 day juice challenge.

My goals are perminent healthy eating and pray the weight comes off as I honor God with my food choices.

Looks like a good showing for 2016. I hope the few here stay and find success. There is nothing like getting to know those you are working with.

I'm going to continue to work on a check in streak to SP. That really tends to keep me rockin' back to the program. I had a streak of 130+ days when I missed on Christmas Eve....Huh! What a screw up. I really didn't try and log food, it is too hard during the holidays to figure out 'what was that?' I did see a gain of about 5 lbs but have scaled that back quickly by 2.5 lbs.

My goal this year will be to do about what Cruise is doing as far as weight loss but I don't expect to lose 36 lbs. I will be really happy with 10 and extatic with 15.

I'm going to back to the no eating unless I'm seated at a table, and cut back on the fruit adding veggies. Of course my exerc ise level with remain high. I hope to get near 24,000 hours of exercise over the year.

Happy New Year!!

I am down more than 15 pounds since the beginning of last year. Good thing. I was down over 20 pounds in November though - so I did not do so well over the holidays. I am amidst some personal rebellion right now. Rebelling against having to diet. But I know that is what works, so I gotta do it.

Friday will be my weigh-in day.

1/1/16 156.8
1/8/16 154.4 (lost 2.4 pounds so far)

So far so good.

Happy New Year Everyone! emoticon

Thank you for the reminder CP - I am looking forward to getting back on track!

OMA - glad you are back home, I have been thinking about you! It was so nice to be able to meet up with you and your DH! I have the Dresden magnet on my fridge and it reminds me to pray for you when I see it!

I am starting this year 10# higher than last - I got to my lowest weight in years this summer but some was due to caretaking for my mom...it was not necessarily a healthy weight loss!

PLAN:
Record what I eat - try to stay within calorie range at least 6 days/week.
Cardio and/or strength training at least 5 days/week.

1/7/2015 - 168.5
1/8/2016 - 177.3

Hi, everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year's and that things have now settled back into a little less hectic pace!

We had a wonderful time with our son/DIL and little 16 mo old Emma visiting us for a week from Indiana! I'm just now getting things back to normal - and it's a week into January already. I really did work at doing better this year over the holidays and it went pretty well. I never threw in the towel and even though the scale went up on some days, I'd rein it right back in. As of this morning, I was at 189.2 which is 10.8 pounds lighter than I started off the new year last year! I'm excited to start the year at this number and see what I can do in the coming weeks and months.

Oma - it's great to see you and have you back! 4 months in the states - wow - that was quite a trip, and a long stretch to be away from home and your normal routine! I'm sure it was a wonderful time for you, but I'm sure you are also glad to be home again where you can get back into your usual routine! I feel that way after only a week away from home and can't imagine doing that for 4 months!

What are your goals and plans for this year?

My plan is to write down what I eat consistently in a notebook, whether I can count it or not. I want to eat about 1600 calories and do 60 minutes a day of exercise, 6 days a week. That 60 minutes can be done easily by going to WA 3 days a week on my days off, and on the days I work, I will take a 30 minute walk before work, and ride my exercise bike in the evening while I watch TV after work. I realize counting isn't always practical, but I will always write down what I eat, and if I can't count it, I'll CUT it in half! My goal is to lose 1 pound every 10 days for a total of 3 pounds a month. Done consistently, that could be 36 pounds for the year.

I wish all of you the very best NEW year - I look forward to working together to reach our goals! You motivate and inspire me, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone make progress in 2016!
