Texas' redistricting is subject to federal scrutiny because they had a long sorted history of redrawing districts so to dilute minority representation. Federal courts stopped Texas recent attempt at redistricting before the last election.

Texas and other states that are subject to this federal law are challenging the federal govt and should go before the Supreme Court some time this year.

Yes, they are so ethical, aren't they? The Governor will probably sign the bill even though he made noises about it not being in the spirit of good government.

Gotta love the Republicans.... they don't have enough faith in the voting public to play it straight. I will say that both parties play games with redistricting, but this latest sham by the Virginia Republican white boys is really slimy.

It wasn't enough that Republican majority held states did everything they could to dilute the Democratic vote by limiting access to early voting, purging voter rolls and requiring unrealistic voter id, now it seems they are using trickery to redraw districts to further dilute Democratic held districts.

Virginia state congress is equally divided 20 Republicans and 20 Democrats. ON Monday one of the congressional democrats attended the inaugural in Washington on the official federal holiday celebrating the birth of Martin Luther King.

Congressional Republicans took this opportunity to present a redistricting map that would severely alter the representation of democrats and minorities. Because of the absense of the one Democrat they were able to pass the redistricting plan with a majority of 1.

Although the move was legal according to Virginia law, the party of "morality and family values" prove once again that those guidelines only guide their decisions "to a point." That point being "when it improves their chances."

The governor hasn't said whether he'd sign or vetoe this legislation.
