OK, here's the right wing Conservative weighing in.

First of all, the project is for BRAIN MAPPING, and it was only Likened to the DNA research. Neither did it have anything to do with micro-chips.

Pretty much anything mankind finds about how to do new things has, somewhere in the application, a potential for misuse. Right now, I'll take the chance of anything like that happening and I certainly won't worry about the worst thing that can happen.

Actually, I think this project is the best thing to come out of this administration.

If we can map the brain, maybe we can help heal those parts of the brain that have been damaged and that lead to depression, phobia's, syndromes, etc. I think with research we might be able to route information around damaged areas of the brain and return a person to society as a functional human. Furthermore, I think it will lead to research that might help people with crippling brain injuries like that suffered by Gabby Gifford and the thousands of American military that have suffered other forms of severe brain trauma.

Actually, the only comments I've heard in the Conservative sphere about this new program from Conservatives has been rumbles and mumbles involving another unplanned budget expenditure, and even those comments have been muted by the overwhelming positive response.

Since I have now put this out into the Internet, some idiot claiming to be a Conservative will certainly open his/her mouth and show how ignorant and unbalanced she/he actually is.

Paranoia? Nowhere I've seen. If they could find a way to regulate adrenalin to a normal level, re-program an out of sync hippo-campus and repair the damage to the thalamus caused by over-active adrenal secretions, I'd sign up to be a test subject! Chronic Depression absolutely sucks - as does being required to take 11 pills a day to try and keep the chemicals in your brain close to normal.

MYREALANA, The Right-Wing nuts certainly won't have anything even close to 50% participation in any paranoia resulting from this event.

DNA mapping can be a tremendous help for those who have underling, catastrophic health conditions.

Unfortunately most laymen would assume that just because they bear certain markers they are destined to be afflicted with that disease. Just as many would believe they are in the clear if they don't have the genetic markers.

How would we keep this information private? What if it affected one's ability to get a job, attend public schools or get health or life insurance?

OK,I made a mistake.I'm human.I am a perfectionest so I'm really bugged when I make a mistake.I didn't relize the chips were in ankle bands on the babies.I may have read paranoid information too.It has been several years since I read it.I have to be honest for about 10 years I have been most upset with domestic things and financial problems in the country.I sometimes think we need a 3rd.viable political party. emoticon

I did not read anything about microchips in that article. "Mapping" is not microchipping.

Shirley, you seriously need to put down the TEA and back away.

No one but paranoid wingnuts are talking about microchips for babies or old people - at least not implanted ones.

Actually, hospitals already "microchip" babies. The band they put on a newborn's ankle will set off an alarm if anyone tries to remove the baby from the hospital. They can do the same thing with elderly dementia patients to keep them from wandering off.

But any talk of implanted chips is just so much paranoid hot air.

I honestly don't know enough about DNA mapping at this point to make a sensible comment.I do think from what little I have heard and read about it that it might help some people.I'm sure much more research needs to be done.As far as the government perhaps I'm too conservative but I see too much control in our lives. They are pushing micro chipping babies and the elderly at this time. They'll never be allowed to do that too me and so far none of my great grand babies have been microchipped.Microchipping is alright for dogs and horses but we're humans. emoticon

I saw that article this morning. My first thought was: good, the US is going to work on leading in science. My second was what kind of protests the right wing would get into... LOL

Bridie, knowledge is power. If we want to remain as one of the major players in the international scenery, we need to invest in research. All kinds of research.

The DNA mapping and research did wonders..and will do more..their problem with this would be..? In my case, perhaps I am infavor of this kind of research because I have a son with a biochemical mental illness..and the more known about the brain, the better chance of a cure in the future for some other mother's child.

We totally need an emoticon of a chicken running around without a head, because I can imagine that's what every crazy right winger will do at the sight of that headline.
