Actually she is facing charges for evading, reckless endangerment and possession. The officer was just suspended.

Val, while I do agree you have a point, I do not like the continuous transference of responsibility that is done in the US. People should be held accountable for their actions.

Myrea, thanks for the update. Obviously, I disagree with the decision.

Now I wonder what kind of action was taken regarding the woman who put the kds in danger.... Probably nothing.

Then the internal affairs division must have found his behavior irresponsible. That being the case, no choice beyond termination..

None of the adults including the Mom were acting safely or responsibly, IMHO..

I respectfully disagree. The cops knew there were kids in the vehicle. Just by her fleeing they knew she wasn't acting safely and responsibly. It's up to the professional to act safely and responsibly.

Should cops shoot into a crowd because one alleged criminally flees into them?

It's a cops responsibility to protect the innocent even if that may mean temporarily letting the alleged criminal go.

There. I think that now the link will work....

so, having kids in a car should be a deterrent to police work and a free card to behave the way one wants? I do not agree with that.

It seems to me that the woman, as well as her kid, have a serious behavioral problem. Unfortunately, different from what kids are taught nowadays, one cannot do anything they want without consequences...

So the police officer was fully aware of the children in the car. Are children just "collateral damage?"

Sorry, I couldn't get the link to work.

They should not have to. An idiot like that should be thrown in jail to cool off and learn how to behave with responsibility.

Internal affairs has to investigate. They have no choice, for their own protection and due to public expectation. What's interesting to me is the way the headlines on this event were presented.."Officer fires at van full of children" It could as easily and accurately have stated"woman refuses to comply with officers at traffic stop, flees scene and resists arrest. Officer assaulted." However it didn't..more cruddy sensationalism masquerading as journalism, and manipulating public opinion..

I do not see why the police officers are under investigation. people have to be accountable for what they do, and this woman should go to jail for at least a couple of decades....
