You see Bridie, with time people learnt. There are no drunk drivers. Since it is a bridge and the police is ALWAYS waiting in one of the ends of it, people that do the "trip" have a designated driver.....

It would be interesting Willam to see the local statistics re accidents occurring between 2 am and 3 am as the drunk drivers s migrate across the bridge!

oh, I know! Politicians ALWAYS want more revenue.... So do I, do you think I can make a law so my employer has to give me a "show up to work" bonus every day I come in? LOL

I just do not get how a person can defend a law like this with a serious face. The whole thing is ridiculous...

They want more revenue. The call it a licensing fee so when election time rolls around they can, with a straight face say they didn't raise taxes.

Willam, in the nearby city of Pasadena liquor can only be purchased in a particular area of the city. This goes back to the days that the Baptist ruled and dancing and alcohol was against the law. Those same fine upstanding Baptist just travelled for their fun.

I think it is really amusing that here the night clubs have a time to close (in fact, having a time that is not allowed to buy/sell alcohol is even more amusing than that) so, here in Tampa Bay we have a curious situation. On this side of the bridge (Clearwater/St Pete) the clubs close at 2 am while in the other side (Tampa), they close at 3 am. Yes, there is a very interesting migration on the bridge around 2 am.
Now, claiming that closing at 3 am causes disturbance and problems to the city, they want to change the closing time to midnight. So far, so good. I can understand that (kinda). The thing becomes ridiculous when the proposed law, changing the closing time, allows the clubs to remain open till 3 am, as long as they pay “an special license fee”.
My thing is, how an extra fee will solve the problem with disturbance? Did we get so pathetic that our politicians not even try to disguise their greed anymore? It is the cigarette tax philosophy all over again.
