Pen pals I can do. I know it is nice to get actual letters through the postal service. I live out in the country and we never get visitors. It is so nice to get something in the mail
I am terrible about checking my spark mail but I will check my email all the time because I have sisters that have moved from the ward that emails me.

I too like others am struggling with cash but I can afford a couple of stamps a week to help someone.
Hope everyone had a terrific Holiday weekend
Brenda

I think cards, postcards and letters would be the best way to go. Kind words of encouragement are worth far more than things.

However, I'm not interested because I swore off secret friends when I was young. I always ended up with the secret pal who did nothing. I'd rather encourage and be encouraged by people I know.

Your idea is very sisterly and sweet emoticon , however, my budget is so tight right now that the gift part is not an option at this time, however, I do have lots of pretty cards and I bought lots of stamps in the spring and then recently bought penny & .03 stamps for the ever increasing rates emoticon .

I am not interested in the gift in the mail both because I am all ready nickel and dimed to death and have too much stuff as it is but what if we modified it a bit and instead of sending gifts in the mail did it with spark goodies. That I would enjoy. I love getting a giving goodies. I don't have to find a place to store it and can always go back later and enjoy it. Ohh ~ I guess that wouldn't be anon. though.

Really, with all the ideas floating here, we could accomodate everyone. We could set up a 'list' for people who would like to do packages now, one for packages later, letters now, emails, etc.

I think it's a great idea, and I'd love to participate!

Hi. I am not as active as I would like to be on Spark, much less with this group. That said, I would love to have an email buddy and maybe switch around each month. $10 gifts are too much, and I don't need more "things" however kindly intended. I could use some one-on-one encouragment and sharing of ideas.

And I know this may sound really lame, but the extra effort to put a letter together or get to the post office sounds overwhelming at this time of my life.

If you did something where you assigned online buddies, I would be interested. Thanks to all of you who put a lot of time and effort into this community.

I think it would be a fun idea to have a "Spark-pal", but I also hesitate because of the cost during this time of the year. Maybe go with the letters with a option to send a package thru snail mail until the first of the year and see how that works out. Sometimes we get so busy with everything that it would be nice to have a excuse to just sit and read and relax.

Pen pals I can do. Like those that mentioned earlier, I also don't have a lot of money to spend plus I don't like sending things across the border. (Any Canadian sisters what to participate?)

I would be happy with a scripture pal, where you send messages with a scripture you read and maybe comments about how you feel about that scripture, or something similar???? Just a thought.

I know it is nice to get actual letters through the postal service, but I belong to another team where we have on line buddies - each month we sign up for that month, and send emails to our buddies, get to know them as friends, etc. I still email my very first buddy and enjoy getting her emails.

This might be a way to participate for those people who are struggling with cash and can't afford stamps. Of course it would not be "secret" but still a way to communicate with other team members.

I, too, would possibly be interested in it in a few months, but for a different reason. Being low income, I can't afford much, but for reasons I won't go into, our finances are really stretched this time of year, and we can barely afford the neccessities for the next couple of months.

I can see what so are saying about the holidays. it can be such a busy time of year. However, there may be some sisters who would really appreciate getting a package or letter during the holidays. (I do like the idea of letters this time of year. I don't know if I could do it though b/c I'm putting off buying stamps unless absolutely necessary b/c it's an expense we can't afford. seriously. Being the daughter of a retired postal worker, I know a book of stamps is less than 10$. But that's 10$ we need to be able to put other places (unless, of course, we absolutely need to buy stamps)).

I agree with Jen. I not only have Christmas, but seven birthdays between now & Christmas plus my first grandchild being born later this month. I had pen-pals growing up as well & it was a lot of fun.

I think it would be great! Maybe COUSINCAROL is right though. Maybe it would be more fun and easier for people from January through say Easter. It would probably be fun then because those months can be sort of cold and long. Just a thought! Maybe we could start out with pen pals for the next couple of months and then switch around after Christmas? Trying to add ideas.

My best to all my dear Sisters!

Jen

Peace and Many Blessings!

I think I will pass on this one because it is so close to the holiday's.

However if you start up another one after Dec. I think I would like to give it a try.

I would be interested in this.

I am a little confused though, are you sending one "gift" type package once a month or three "gifts" once a month? If we are sending 3 gifts I am sure I cannot afford to do that. But I think I could handle one gift a month and then a letter/correspondence one other time during the month.

On another sparkteam I belong to, they sign up monthly for a "secret pal challenge" where the team members sparkmails the team leader about joining. The team leader assigns each member who signed up a secret pal to send motivations to through snail mail. They commit to sending a small package two times per month. In the packages there a hints about who the person is that the answers can be found by reading their posts, blogs and sparkpages.

I have never signed up, but as a youth I used to have several pen-pals and I used to love getting mail from exotic places around the world. I have been thinking about joining the next challenge on that team.

The concept intrigues me, and I was wondering how you ladies felt about starting something similar for this team?
I would change the rules slightly, because I don't know how hard it would be for the teamleader to get it going.

I would ask that you commit to being a secret pal until the end of the year, and send three SMALL packages no more than $10 plus postage to your secret pal one time per month instead of two.

We would re-evaluate in January how successful it was and whether or not the challenge should continue, and how it should be tweaked.

Are any of you interested?
I know the rules of Internet safety say we should not correspond with those we meet on the Internet, and I will respect that if you don't want to participate.
I on the otherhand have already broken those rules with members of this sparkteam.
