Just some sharing about halal food, if you want to give something to your Muslim friends.

All kinds of food are considered halal except the following, which are haram:
Swine/pork and its by-products .
Animals improperly slaughtered or dead before slaughtering .
Animals not slaughtered in the name of Allah .
Alcohol and all forms of intoxicating and hazardous drinks .
Carnivorous animals, birds of prey, and land animals without external ears .
Pests such as rats, centipedes, scorpions and other similar animals .
Animals forbidden to be killed in Islam e.g. ants, bees, spider and woodpecker birds .
Animals which are considered repulsive generally like lice, flies, maggots and other similar animals .
Animals that live both on land and in water such as frogs, crocodiles and other similar animals .
Blood and by-products of blood .
Foods and drinks which contain any of the above haram ingredients or contaminated through contact with any of the above products .

www.halalcertificate.com/

Also the equipments that you use for preparing the food, shouldn't used with the non-halal food.

I know it's quite a lot to remember so the best way is to get something with the Malaysia halal logo and others certifiied halal logo :D

Hmm, little gifts for the nurses?

If you plan to give something in Ramadhan, I would recommend dates as it's recommended to break fast with dates first :D But don't go that Yusof Taiyoob brand, some people don't like them.

For Hari Raya, how about nicely wrapped kuih or biscuits - I suggest get something with halal logo, not bake yourself as no offense but some Muslim are very particular with the halal logo, especially if given by non-muslim. Anyhow, for food, go for dates in Ramadhan, that usually works :D

But if I'm not mistaken, you do sewing projects, right (can't remember what the exact word, crochet or something), how about you make something like a small bag and fill in with goodies?

I will be back in the States by the time Raya is here. Besides, I do not have any Muslim friends over there.

I plan to buy little gifts for the nurses in the dialysis centre. There are 5 muslim nurses there. Nothing too bit or fancy or costly, just some little thing that they'll like. I haven't figured out what to give them yet, any ideas?
