I use some MSM/glucosamine too sometimes. Remember MSM is an antioxidant and should not be taken with other meds, so you need to plan when you work it into your schedule. Probably several hours before your regularly scheduled meds (high blood pressure etc) would be the best time. This could be a problem with the people already on meds every couple of hours.

Depending on what your problems are, you might be in the group with me who just has to get started on our regular schedule. Doing stuff makes mild to moderate chonic pain easier to ignore. Some of us start of stiff, but get better once we start doing stuff. I guess it is the endorphin effect or something like that.

A hot bath in epsom salt when my muscles are tightening up and very painful. It doesn't take away the pain completely but it sure does ease it.

Hey all, I started taking 3 supplements that are helping with my pain levels. MSM, Turmeric, and Gluclosemine/ate.

I am taking nearly 2000 mg of Turmeric, and 4,000 mg of MSM, and I personally am just starting on the Gluclosemine/ate.... So I don't know what level will add to the pain reduction.

Ohhh what a help these have been!! You may want to try them. Now I do have to say the Turmeric is known to drop blood sugars so if you are diabetic you may want to test and play with it a bit to see what is safe for you... if at all! I have one friend who is on 4,000 mg who used to be on Morphine daily and is not anymore. She worked with her Drs to get off the Morphine and then added the Turmeric.

I know finances are always an issue.... and I put off buying supplements for a long time due to cost... but I finally broke down and decided that I am unable to NOT buy them....

Hope this helps someone!!

Hey all, I have been having more problems than usual with my back pain from compression fractures of the spine. I am to the point I can no longer sweep the kitchen floor, and I have a tiny kitchen like 3' by 5'! I can do about a 1x3 area then must rest for 30 mins. so taking all day just to sweep the house and I am a tidy freak so major issues here. Anyone have any tips on helping me get thru the housework? and no, I have no one to help me and can not afford to hire a housekeeper. Wishy.

Every thing is possible, what slows you down is the probability factor. So why let that get in your way?

Bren I answered you over on the other thread. hope you get your answers soon!!

had a meltdown of my own monday. went for my normal 6 month checkup and the doc was waiting for me with a handicap tag application filled out and insisted i get one. felt like my whole world fell apart. i refused, she said you HAVE to. i feel old and a failure. Kevin has one but its due to cancer not being too fat on a bad knee. i'm hoping the horror of it kicks my ass into gear on staying on plan.

Sorry Bren, I don't know much about them.... Yet I know that some of my friends have had them done and about 1/3 feel a difference.... Speak w one of your Docs re how many actually get relief. My stats are just from personal experience not formal stats. Hope this helps a little.

Hi guys,
I'm having my own crisis here and am lost. Has anyone ever used sodium channel blockers for nerve pain? Apparently there are more than a few. My neurologist, rheumatologist and pain management doc's all say I need to start a regimine ASAP, but don't know a lot about them.
Being that this is MY body and all, I would love some feedback.

Thanks!

thanx Nightskystar :)

I am still battling pretty badly with pain... but that's cuz well... they took me off all NSAIDs, and didn't give me anything to replace it with. I have an appt with my Behavioral Health Dr on Tues to speak to her about upping either the welbutrin or the Cymbalta or both... or adding another Fibro med... or if i need to make another appt with my PCP and get a referral to a new Rumo who actually believes in treating Fibro.

Anyhow... Have a great week!

so since the last check in, I have had more headaches and migraines than not... I have been dealing with a lot of low barometric pressure. I am loving the rain, as our area really needs it... but I am not loving the pain..... I had a lighter day today... but still pain.

I did make it to the pool, and I am glad I got to exercise! But other wise, it was a down right busy day, with lots of pain... (between 5-8 on the pain scale)

I been MIA too, so You aren't alone... Life just got complex and busy here too!

Son is no longer hurting self, I am not sure his meds are where they need to be, but they are better (we reduced his anti-depressant) . .. We have all been busy, and he has been going to the pool with me, and doing homework, and playing on his new computer/mini-laptop (for school and play).

Pain is "within normal limits" but it is about a 7 today.... Usually between 4 and 7 is my "norm" . . . I am on the high end of it.. but I will be going to the pool at the 4p class (Mt time) and I will hopefully relax a bit... (and I have yet to take pain meds... so I will be taking those soon too!)

I am here, and I have had more chaos, but not so much with me, as with my son. He was having a rough weekend, and we had Seth trying to self - injure himself... thankfully he never broke skin, but he was beating himself over the head over and over again with a stick then also ramming his head against the door.... We are familiar with these symptoms, but had not seen them for a long while.

We have dropped his dosage, and we are doing better. I am sticking to the new dosage. We see son's Psych on Thurs. And we will deal with that.

I woke up this morning, in pain as often is the case the monthly starts. I am frustrated with this, but I know it's all I can do. I did go ahead and took some Excedrin even though the Nephrologist has told me not to... cuz it is one of the few things that works on the monthly pain.

Hope you all have a great week ~ today is my only "Down" day (at home) ... Wed, Son has group, and School's Open House . . .. Thurs, Son has Psych appt, Therapy, and Cub Scout Pack Meeting . . . . Friday is a typical Friday with the girls coming over, and on it goes

Bren: Nightsky mentioned on another thread she drank her max / limit of water the whole time, but I just think that much stress and heat are enough reasons for water weight.

As for me.... I am doing better cuz I have a new laptop!!!! And a new TV too! Yes, I got my back pay! The Tv has to last us the next 10 yrs.... and the New laptop at least another 2-3 yrs LOL
Having bills paid and able to buy a couple extras is sure nice! We even went to Red Lobster last night... and I did *not* skip the butter :) WeI don't do Red Lobster often, so I decided I would eat it as I enjoy it . . . and I only ate 2/5 of my plate (half a pound of snow crab legs and a Maine Lobster Tail plus soup and 1 biscuit).

And Pain wise I am mixed... I don't think I got enough sleep last night I was up past Midnight and then up again by 6:25 . . . So soon I will need a nap to help with the pain.

NightSkyStar: Breath and get some rest today -- I hope :)

Hope you all are having a great day!

Hey guys!
CONGRATS NIGHTSKY!!!! You DID make it! And I agree with ARIA, a lot of this is water weight. I'm guessing that you were sooooooo busy that you weren't hydrating enough. You know how i KNOW this? Because the potty was likely a porta potty, and I personally under hydrate just to avoid using one! : )
3 wedding cakes? I hope it't not hot out where you are at. Whooey! Congrats on the orders though! If you made gluten free cakes I would call you in a second! Ooh I sooo miss real cake : )

ARIA - I hope you are feeling slightly better today, and that your computer gets back to 100% soon! be glad that it currently shuts off and doesn't fry itself. We had that happen in the past. No fun!

Have a great night everyone!

NightSkyStar: Yep yep Yep, it is done... !!! You got through it! Remember part of the weight you "gained" is stress weight... and water weight....!!! You done good!!!

Bren: I am hanging in here. I am off all NSAIDs now, and I am hurting about 30% more than I was when I could pop 2 excedrin sometime during the day.... But I gotta Baby my Kidney.... So I do what the Dr tells me....

I just got my back pay from Soc Security. We will be paying bills, and updating my laptop (with one that doesn't shut down without warning at times - due to a fan problem)... and then there will be all the set up that it requires... UGH! But I will be glad to have new technology!

Hope you all have a great day!

Bren,

Sadly today is a pretty bad flare day. I was up all night last night until 8a. When I could finally sleep. I got to sleep until 5p . . . and I am sorta rested... but the pain flare is still here. I took my max of pain meds last night... and had to wait 4 hrs to be able to take more... I hate chasing pain!

Nightskystar: I don't know how you press on with the shows, and the bakery and all!! I am so glad you are able to do all that with the pain and issues you have.

Hang in there, you all...

Hey guys!

Glad you checked in NIGHTSKY. I hope all is still going GREAT!!

ARIA, happy Sunday to you. Duh, Happy Sunday to you all of course! Sorry... : ). How has your sleep been lately? I have my finger's crossed that you're going to reply that you are well rested.

My EM didn't wake me until 5:45 this morning, which really beats the 4;00 AM wake up call with pain from yesterday (ouch!). It's hard to be awake that early, in mucho pain, and not make any noise to accidentally wake up my hubbie...

: )

I survived it... and seemed to get everything we needed. It ended up being a 3 store trip, and we still have one more to go -- Chicken is cheaper at one of the mom & pop stores locally, so We will get that probably next week, when I take Son to go to school to see his teacher (and find out which teacher he will be "mainstreamed" into this year). as it is on that end of town.... and that's 10-15 miles from our home.

I didnt sleep well night before last after shopping... It was part pain, part nausea. (shara had been experiencing nausea too, so It may have been a small bug, but it I only threw up once... and shara had only threw up once the day before. Anyhow, I am feeling better, but don't have a ton of energy right now. I still plan on going to the gym (so long as my headache doesn't bloom anymore than it currently is...) and getting some exercise soon!

Ohhh and i got my new Cpap for the one that was under warrantee. So :) no changes... just the same machine, with no errors in the memory. I feel like I have fallen off the good eating wagon, but that's just cuz I haven't been eating *enough* When I am sick, I sleep a lot, and don't get a lot of food intake in! oh well, I will be back on track soon!

Hey ARIA! How did shopping go?
I felt pretty good post massage for a few hours. I was happy. My husband wanted us to walk around the neighborhood since we have lived in our new home over 9 months and never did that so far!
it was only about 6 slow blocks but I was pooped...

BTW, your photo looks great!!

Bren: I been not too well on the pain scale the last couple of days.... I soooo understand what you mean.... When I have massages I have to let the massage therapist know about my trigger points too.... The Massage Therapist usually just tell me to let them know when they get close, or when I need it to change - and if I know what kind of pressure needs to change or lighten or what ever i need. I hope your Massage therapist is as attentive.

Today is shopping Day, so I will be flat the rest of the day probably... and I am already plan for it.

Hey Gals,
I hope this weekend has been a low pain one for you so far - and that you are all HYDRATING well and emptying that bottle! : ))))

Yesterday I was hurting a lot from my miriad of health issues, so I was not too Sparkly : (
But I got a gift card from my inlaws for my bday, and I have booked a massage for this morning in an hour. I know I'll need to give the poor gal the low down on my broken-ness, so she knows NOT to really touch my left foot, and to explain why my my hands and legs/foot are so red and hot to touch, and I am making a promise to myself to not get down because of that. I am simply educating her for future massages if this one is helpful, right? It's at my old yoga studio, so the peeps are really great.

My hubbie asked me to make his favorite roasted chicken dish. I have not really made anything impressive for a long while, and especially since my complex regional pain diagnosis, so I am kinda dreading it - ack! I am keeping positive thoughts that I can cut and chop, etc. and not aggravate my pain. Perhaps I will ask him to help me with the prep work. That's the worst part right next to the heat of the convection oven. I love the idea of convection roasting, but it seems like our whole house gets non stop forced heat from the fan! Wish me luck!

Bren You aren't alone... heat aggravates mine, but low pressure, and storms does more so... and we are now in Monsoon season (getting big storms (hurricanes) from the Pacific coast over land)...

I am keeping up with my water bottle, and making it empty....

Hey Guys!

ARIA, so happy for you to get at least some relief! I am sure everything else will fall into line soon.

I am on day 5 of wearing both my shoes = awesome!
After the first 2 days I swear my nerve condition just laughed at me, and started to turn my foot all Barney purple. yuck. so I was back in the boot for another 2 days. Baby steps!

ARIA, how are you healing??? ~~ I am healed up... but I am now in "Monsoon season" and that means lots of low pressure in the evenings... UGH

Today I am going to try out wearing a shoe in my left foot - sooooo excited! We'll see how it goes. It's been 11 weeks! ~~ Glad you are "healed" enough to be able to try on your shoes again...

I am still waiting for my Cpap, but got the Medical insurance finally figured out, and ironed out with Social Security. I love being on all my medication now... and feeling a bit better cuz of it... Only thing i don't have is pain med / Vicodin ... I haven't had it for a month at this point... and that's fine... I need to go without it once in a while to reduce the risk of addiction... and it works better if you take a break from it. ... I am hanging in here... I have an appt with the PCP the last week of the month... and an appt with the Rheumotologist the first week in Aug.

And Yes, My power Adapter for my Laptop is dead, so i have to share with shara (borrowing her universal adapter) when she's not on it... as she has school and work that take precedence.

Hi guys - how are you feeling?

ARIA, how are you healing???

Today I am going to try out wearing a shoe in my left foot - sooooo excited! We'll see how it goes. It's been 11 weeks!

GREAT news from the Pain Management Clinic. The doc told me that I might only need to be on the nerve drug therapy for 1 year, and not my entire life! I will need to get the intra spinal nerve block procedure done every 3 months, but I can deal with that. I am optimistic. It's nice to know it's not getting worse. I can only deal with one disease at a time! The did tell me that they have had a patient with Erythromelalgia like me - I have still never met anyone with my disease- but when I asked about treatment options, she said that sadly, none of their treatments worked, and they ended up using strong narcotics for his pain. Sorry, no thanks...
So for now, I am jazzed that my current treatment for my Complex Regional Pain Managent IS holding it back from progressing. Small victories!

Bren, You asked about my fall....

I fell while taking my son to one of his Therapies on Thursday. I was walking and had a step up onto the curb from the parking lot, and my foot slipped off the curb. My other foot was already up on the curb but down i went... it was a gravel area, so i skinned my left knee up, and ended up in a fetal position on the ground (almost a crawl position). I was able to get myself up... I dropped my cane, so i could catch myself in the fall.... Still don't quite know *how* it happened ... but i am still sore... it pulled my back, and my sprained my left foot a bit...

I am quite ok, but was embarrassed and shook up... at the time

MALKS, for me when the rain and cold comes I feel so much better. I guess it's the reverse for you? bummer!

I am FINALLY at the max dosage for my neurontin and so happy. I felt like I wa starting over every 3 days with each increase, and sooooo sick each time. Yuck.
When do I lose this awful taste in my mouth? I swear I fell like I am licking a dirty telephone pole 24/7- blech!!!

Ooh, so sorry you are not feeling well either. oi am urrently lying down in our office gym since I am woozy from my Cymbalta and neurontin.

Looks like we both need some relief!

I will be ramping up my dose to the max amount and am a bit nervous since i'll be alone on Saturday when hubbie is out of town. I have 2 friends coming to check on me at different time tomorrow to be safe.

And I will be checking in on Spark often tomorrow to keep my brain as sharp as I can. Oh boy!

Hey you!
Well then you totally understand my brain fog. This is insane! Did you bump into stuff too? Call people different names? Drive?
I cannot drive at all, so hubbie has been driving me to/from work. Bless him! And I can fall asleep anywhere. Great at home (since it's so hard to sleep with pain as you know)_ bad for work! : )

Have you gotten your walk in today? I hope so. Walk some extra steps for mee too, OK?

Welcome back Bren~
I don't know, with both i got pain relief...

but the nuerontin made my head too fuzzy, and i lost a lot of my short term memory on it...

I am currently on cymbalta and it is an antidepressant that has the side effects of reducing pain... I do better on the cymbalta then i do on the neurontin but i know many of my friends tollerate both well...

Hey There! Sorry I have been MIA. These nerve drugs have me so wonky! Every 3 days I ramp up the dose some more, and more of my brain seems to get fuzzy with each dose.
I learned the hard way to wash my face no later than 90 min after taking them, otherwise I bang my head on the faucet! Oy!

Tomorrow will be the max dose if the drugs, 3 x a day. Today the doc said the loopiness would fade eventually. I work in an office, and need to focus, and everything is blurry and confusing. I hope he's right! Seriously, I called the fridge a washer...

But, I have not only NOT cried from body pain -as I often do since it's so widespread with my Erythromelalgia and this new complex nerve thing- but have not really wanted to give in to that. What do you think of that? Is that from the nerve drugs or the Cymbalta? Intersting...

I am wishing you a day full of beauty and NOT pain!

Museum was ok... been there a lot of times... but it got me up and moving... for a bit, then i found a bench... and plugged in my Cellphone to the Headphones and listened to the "Letters from Two Brides" audio book i am listening to... got through a chapter before the family got back... LOL a whole 34 min.... to my own world....

Yesterday, I pulled out the stability ball and blew it up (not as much as i would like, but it took forever to get what i got)... and then sat on it... working on balance and core like i used to do in PT years ago....

Hey guys!
PICKLES!!!! Totally forgot about those suuuper low cal greeny little spear suckers, Ha! Thanks for reminding me!
All of those snacking treats were great.
I will def need those suggestions today since today I am to double the Px for the nerve drug. I really hope my brain does not wander away again, and that the appetite monster stays home!

MALKS, how was the museum? I swear I thought of that Ben Stiller movie when I read your post (Night at the Museum), ha! I hope te weather is being kind to you today.

NIGHTSKY, how are the knees? Hoping those beautiful horses were a treat to see. Gorgeous!

a happy, low pain day to you all I hope!

I did a pilates mat workout (sitting on my bum). Nice to do something...

Ouch Bren!!

I have been there... and done that... but yeah i agree with NightSkyStar -- Find some "no" calorie or low calorie foods for that mega munchie side effect....

A cup or 2 of vegetable or chicken broth, Veggies: Cabbage, Carrots, Lettuce, Leafy Veggies, oatmeal, popcorn (without much on it) etc ;
drink a cup or 2 of water... , Pickles, apples, and some 'professionals" even suggest a Fiber tablet or 2...

I bet you all know more than i do the list... :D

Hope you all are having low pain days... (barometer is very Low today... 30.35 ... and was flexing in the low to 31.?? area...) So I been struggling most the day.. but i did go to the Natural History Museum and walked about an hour... (a slow take in the info pace)

Hey! I totally blew it last night with food. The dreaded side effect of the nerve drug hit last night - increased appetite - Doh!!! It hit a good 90 min after dinner, growling tunny and all, so I knew I was hungry for real, but sheesh! I made entire meal and then some, crazy! This sooooo doesn't help my weight loss goal of 30 lbs to lose all I gained while down in the dumps being depressed frm my EM.
Not fair! But I am trying to be kind to myself, only day 4 of the drugs, and since I was in the Emerg Room on Monday, i've come far already, right? : )

Wait, you run a bakery? Wow! How cool is that? But ohhhh, your knees! Hope you are feeling better and enjoying the horses!!!

Hi Bren!!
sorry about the extra heat but glad you slept!! i DO know that one!!!

i did my 3 miles this morning and it all seemed ok..my daughter went to the closest larger city to sams and got me supplies for the bakery while she was there--and i carried them into the bakery after i picked them up (she put them in the car for me) it was about 50 pounds of crisco and flour and vanilla and sugar andi should KNOW better than to do it all at once. My knee is screaming and i SWORE i was off the vicodin from weds till tomorrow..i'm going to tough it out..i try to take 3 or 4 days off every month so i dont get addicted to it.
argh!! and tomorrow i have an all day horse show so cant take any till evening. i should be fun to work with tomorrow, huh? LOL!!

Hey Gorgeous ladies! : )

Umm, well, the acupuncture didn't really do much, and I am afraid that the infrared light that she placed my feet under really overheated my already painfully swollen foot (+ 1 toe on the other). So that really stunk. But that calmed down a bit later.

I am super happy to say that I finally slept last night!!! I did wake up in lots of pain as usual, but just getting that chunk of sleep was such a gift you know? Ah, the simple things....

Thanks for the tip about the drug I'm on. I'm doing lots of Spark quizzes to keep my brain going at full speed. It was so nice to not feel so mushy in the head as of yesterday.
Now I am just hoping (hoping hoping) that the increased appetite side effect of this drug completely missed me. I REALLY don't need that. I need to lose, not gain!

How are you guys doing today? I hope you are all having a low pain day and will check in soon.

Be your best today!

JITZUROE: Gabapentin = neurontin

I have a list of why i can't take things...
neurontin is that i lose most short term memory... so i can't function day to day....
Lyrica = haven't tried due to no insurance
Cymbalta = no insurance can't afford it.. helped a little while, but after about 3 weeks stopped working.. yet i am willing to try it again...

Right now I am waiting on my Social Security Disablity, and SSI and my Medi-Care so i can go back on meds i had to quit taking due to funds....

Hope you all are having a great day!....

and I could go on and on and on....

Hi NIGHTSKY! Thanks for the info! The docs tried Lyrica on my for my Erythromelalgia last year but since I don't have Fibro and EM works differently, it didn't work on me. It sure made me a lot of fun to be around though apparently - I was loopy! My husband thought it was hysterical! I became very smile-y and VERY chatty, like with strangers. And I couldn't drive or anything, so we quit that.
This new one is called Gabapentin. I am on day 4 now, and I guess it takes 7 days to saturate the system. 'Saturate' seems like I am steeping in it - strange!
My hubbs asked me to go see my old acupuncturist. Even though it didn't help my EM, he thought maybe just maybe it would help relieve some of this intense swelling. We went, and she knew she couldn't really touch my foot since it was about to just pop, but I swear, she somehow gave me the most gentle acupressure - like a squirrel massage if that makes sense? And was actually able to get needles in the foot - ACK! She then proceeded to argue with my foot- in Chinese :)))))

It didn't relieve any pain, but I am headed back in a few minutes for another round to at least give it an effort.

So sorry you are not able to keep the Lyrica going for your husband. I hope he is doing better. I really appreciate your post and hope you and your husband are having a low pain day.... Bren

Hi guys - I am so bummed! My foot started to swell massively last Thursday, and would not go down. Hurts sooooo much. The doc sent me to the ER, and after another trip to the podiatrist, I was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Disorder and thrown on some nerve meds. Has anyone heard of this condition? It's so painful. I've been referred to a pain center and am trying to wrap my head around this. Any ideas?

hey guys - such good ideas!!! Thanks so much.
Wow Aria, I've never seen so much helpful info in one place - awesome!

Heat triggers my EM pain big time, so I am on ice packs often and have the window open all the time, even when 40 degrees out. My poor husband wears ski socks and thermals and hoodie sweatshirts but he knows it helps, so he tries not to shiver too much... : )

I am in this big black boot for another month at least (since the fractures are not healing well so far after 7 weeks), so I can only dream of the wonderful walks (ahhhhhhh), but the idea about heavy pillows since interesting. I need to get some!

Strangely, pain meds do not work on me at all, and mess up my already messed up belly, so I will be continuing to drink lots of tea.

Here's to a low pain day to all of you guys and I will check in later today.
Off to see a movie with a pal - that's another thing to temporarily distract me from pain - no popcorn please! : )))

There are a lot of things i do to get through the pain (besides the pain meds at time).... Some are a bit more "destructive" than others though... so I wouldn't recommend them all :D ...
1. Float/Swim if i can - It lessens the weight on my joints and where it hurts.... cuz of the feeling of less weight in the water..
2. Sleep - I probably sleep *too* much ... but when i hurt, if i can sleep i tune it out...
3. I often meditate, and also stare at a 3-D corner... such as where a corners of a wall meets the ceiling .... and focus on that one spot until I can "zone out" a bit of the pain
4. Smile - You would be surprised how much a Smile on your face -- even fake changed the hormones in your body... IF you can not "smile" for 2 min or so... bite on a pencil ... it is the same muscles...
5. Listen to Music... and Praise God for what I have.. and Can do...
6. Take breaks often.. but do stuff anyway... there are days when even in pain... i 'bargain" with myself... IF you do dishes through this TV commercial (a whole 3 min)... You can sit back down .... Often when i get started I won't stop til I finish it (usually a whole 7-10 min at the max)... but if I need to sit down after 3 min... I can and that's ok too.... and each Commercial I do similar.. I do this at times for Exercising too... 3 min at a time...
7. Get a Massage... That may sound like crazy... but if i can get someone to press on my pain for just 2-3 min... that sometimes is enough to change my mindset on "how bad it really is".... and relieve the intensity of it.
8. Have Sex with my Husband..... I am not going into Moral discussions about this one... but the big "O" can often release endorphins that help reduce pain.
9. Ice - which many has already said... Yes!! just do it!
10. Focus on something or someone that needs my help.... There are times I focus on my children, cuz they need me more than I need to hurt.... by knowing i am meeting their *needs* it often makes it a bit more "worth it"
11. Take a Shower -- and sit on a bench if you can... but the warm water can often help with inflammation and swelling- and allergies
12. Use a TENs Unit...
13. Muscle Rubs... I have found some that do not get rid of the pain.. but some at least *help* a small fraction or a touch... I mainly use the "Ice" type ones... but it also depends on the "type" of pain... sometimes in need tiger balm, or ben-gay.
14. Put Heavy Pillows/blankets on You... This causes your body to release endorphins and reduce the pain... I use my big floor pillows... or the cushions that were on the last couch that have now become floor cushions for the kids...
15. Go for a Walk - this one can be very catch 22'ish.... Sometimes the thing i need most is to get out and move my muscles and get them moving again.. other times this is gonna cost me more than it is worth... You be the judge.
16. Have a child sit / support you while you are laying on your side-- the extra "body heat" and extra "pressure" of their little hips and elbows often can be a bit of a helping difference-- There are times my child sits on me similar to heavy pillows /blankets.. and there are times they are my "back support-heating pads"... Dan is too at times (hubby)
17. Sit on a Yoga / Balance Ball - This at times allows me to move and adjust my back and neck muscles and strengthen my core a bit... and takes the stress off the *compressed* part of my back/neck
18. Push/Rub points on my feet or hands... You would be amazed how often points on my feet or hands can reduce the pain.
19. Deep Breath, and Tighten and relax muscles.
20. Drink a cup of Herbal Tea.. and add Honey... it has natural anti-inflammitories.. and antibiotics... I often use Peppermint or Cinnamon tea..

So I hope some of these may work for you....

sure!! i am what CDC has termed "in remission" from Lyme disease. I had it for too long with no treatment so i wont have a cure. I was bit in 1987 before they knew much about it so it took a long time to get diagnosed let alone treated, CDC stepped in, made the diagnosis and have followed me since.

Hiya - hoping this is still an active posting. I have a rare neuromuscular/neurovascular disease that currently has no successful treatment. It's called Erythromelalgia and puts me in pain constantly throughout the day, affecting my arms and legs.
So typing, writing, walking, driving, working, can be such a challenge. I also rely on ice packs to get through the days and nights to just plain exist, and realizing that this disease is likely the source of my emotional eating, I also need to lose about 30 lbs!

I am always looking for ways to cope with pain w/o drugs and eager to find anyone who deals with daily pain to support (and be supported).

I am so sorry you are in pain. Its horrible. While i have to take vicodin daily to deal with mine, I veto it at least one day a week, and in the summer when i'm not teaching, i take a week or 2 off from it. During those times, i meditate. i knit. i do whatever i can to keep my mind off it.
I used to feed the pain with food, and too late realized how destructive that is.
also..i'm not sure what kind of pain you are having, but mine is severe leg pain. i use ice packs alot and they really help. if it isnt somewhere you can ice, i would try the relaxation.
heres one breathing exercise that helps with tension:

take in a breath through your nostrils for 4 counts. release the breath for 8 counts. yes..you want to let out MORE air than you take in. I can literally lower my Blood Pressure 20 points using this technique. I start about 5 mins before my BP is taken.

Please..post often. feel free to sparkmail me. i will help any way i can..
I hope today is better!
