If someone told you that you should lose weight, who would you rather hear it from?

In my case no one said anything until I was having a conversation with a new male nurse at my drs. We were talking about how it was when we each quit smoking and what we turned to in place of cigarettes. He said "I turned to food and when I realized I was obese, like you, I knew I had a problem." Up until that point I guess I was in denial, and yes I remember going through many emotions with in seconds! At that point I didn't say anything else until I got in the car. Then I asked my husband and my kids about my weight. I didn't get a real answer, I got things like "your fine the way you are mom", "we love you", "maybe you could lose a couple pounds." So when I got home I went in the bathroom and pulled out the old dusty scale and saw that at 5 foot 4 I weighed the most I have ever weighed, I was 268 pounds YES I was OBESE!!! Then I was hurt because I felt like my family should have said something, my dr. should have said something long before a nurse I just met did, long before I reached 268 pounds!

My doctor
My spouse or significant other
My best friend
My parent(s)
My child(ren)
None of the above: It's no one's business!


For me.....My husband and family because I know they would be genuinely concerned for me. If it was from my doctor than I would know it was a serious problem.

I really love to go hiking and walking along with other outdoor fun. I also love to go on picnics but I donít get a chance to do that often since my husband doesnít like eating outside.

Most of the time I dont think of food... I am hungry in the mornings. But my DH says I dont eat enough through the day and then I am go hungry at the evening meal.

Are you obsessed with food or eating?

Definitely!! I constantly think about food.
Probably. I think about eating a lot.
No more than anyone else who is trying to lose weight.
No, food is the last thing on my mind.


I think in a way I am because I see what others are eating and I start thinking about food. Not the fact of eating but just the food itself.

I watch what I spend. Money doesn't go as far as it used too. Wages are not keeping pace with price increases such as fuel and food prices.

I like working out with people in general but it is better then doing it alone but sometimes you have to do it for youself...you know what I mean? I used to work out with my partner but she got badly injured then I just had surgery and now I am getting back on track. I love working out with her when I did. Now If I go to the gym and there is a class I don't mind taking it because I know that we are all sweating it out and not judging each other. emoticon

I am like a turtle, slow but at least I am getting there.
