Laughing a lot is good for KETO! It burns calories!! Glad to hear your party went well. These days at a restaurant I will ask for the burger to be bun-less. It depends on the restaurant. I'm still learning too!

She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.

Well done Bonnie!!!

As time goes on you'll find ways to modify, or make selections at restaurants. Many restaurants post their menus on the internet, so you can think about what to order before you go. You can think about possible sides to pick, or substitutions to ask for.

With that mental preparation it is so much easier to head towards a restaurant. Once you've navigated a few restaurants, the next return to one needs no planning ahead of time.

Best of all, after a while of eating low carb, or Keto, and your taste preferences change, and you actually enjoy what you eat more than before. So it only gets better.

Again, well done.

(I love any excuse to wear the short flirty skirt, LOL)

...and Jeremiah 29:11 is my favourite, too!

Dr. Jason Fung: "Holy consensus, Batman. With so many 'experts' from Michelle Obama to the USDA to virtually all of the medical professionals (including doctors and dieticians) agreeing that 'Eat Less, Move More' is the way to go, you might think that it is 100% unquestionably true. But here's a queer thought... if we all agree that we know the cure for obesity, and we've spent billions on educations and programs - why are we getting fatter? In other words, why does this 'cure' suck so bad?

When my Mr. and I go out we will often ask for extra butter, or mayo, just bring the fat percentage up some... sorry I forgot about that little tip when I posted initially, LOL.

Thanks James and Ramona! I survived the night with no major slip ups. My ratios aren't where they should have been, I was too high on protein and calories and a bit low on fat for the day. My ratios came out to 71% fat, 22% protein, 7% carbs and calories were 1587, but total carbs were 24, net carbs 12....so it could have been much worse! I had fun and didn't feel deprived! At least now I know I can go out and make reasonable choices and still have a good time!

I was able to get a rum and Diet Coke, no chips, and stuck with pork rinds with guacamole and a bit of Queso, and the grilled chicken salad. I think whatever I ate for dinner was burned off by laughing so much at the movie, lol....it was a fun night out with the girls!

Bonnie,
As a diabetic I'm very sensitive to what raises my blood sugar, and that is what kicks me out of Ketosis. The worst for this is:
- carbohydrates
The second worst is:
- excess protein (above about 80 grams a day for me)
But it is pretty hard to eat 80 grams of protein from natural sources, like meat. To get to 80 you need to eat a lot of meat. Like a steak that weights a pound would get you there, a 16 ounce steak is huge.

Dietary fat and has no impact on blood sugar.
Pure alcohol has no impact on blood sugar either, but other things in the alcoholic drink might. Beer would have other carbs, wine might have sugar. Best to do your research into alcoholic drinks before going down this path.

All in all, as Ramona wrote: "have a nice time, make reasonable choices".

My tip/advice is to go out and enjoy your evening! You've got a good food plan in place (impressive) and, most importantly, you're making conscious choices. That's the most important thing.

Your thoughts about the alcohol are in a good direction, too. It's really about what you mean by 'off the path' for yourself personally.

Very few paths are direct from point A to point B. All alcohol stops fat-burning for as long as it takes to metabolize the alcohol, but if you use a zero carb mixer, it won't interfere with ketosis (your body will burn the alcohol first, excess carbs next, and then go back to fat). Where the alcohol can interfere is in lowering your resistance to less than optimal choices, LOL.

Have a nice time tonight, make reasonable choices, and get right back to your daily plan tomorrow!

Our Bunco group has a ladies night out tonight at a Mexican restaurant followed by a movie. I have checked the menu and it looks like the best option is a salad with grilled chicken and avocado. I'm going to bring my own salad dressing because I'm afraid their dressing will have too many carbs. I'm bringing a baggie with pork rinds so that I won't be tempted by the tortilla chips. Does anyone know if Queso dip is loaded with carbs? Also how detrimental would it be to have 1 drink with a no carb mixer...like maybe a rum and Diet Coke...just one. I would normally get a Margarita but of course that won't cut it...way of many carbs! Would one low carb drink set me off the path too much?

I wish that I had not already committed to this before I started my plan. It would be so much easier to stay home and not be tempted! But I guess I need to be out there in the real world so that I can learn to handle challenges and temptations.

Any tips and advice?

Bonnie
