Good Evening, Team Keto!!!

I wanted to stop by to say emoticon for this team ... for always being so supportive (especially with members like me that have restarted quite a few times already).

In addition, I wanted to let you know that I have been skimming the chat, I'm not in a very chatty mood right now as a long-time family friend passed away early Monday morning and I'm just sad about it. She was a ripe-old age of 90, but, in many ways was a 2nd 'mom' to me. I did visit her on Sunday afternoon, less than 12 hours before she passed. It will be OK - like I said, I'm just sad. I know that she was old and now she is finally not suffering (although she wasn't sick very long) anymore and is probably in a better place, yet - I will miss her a lot.

BUT - before the clock rings 'midnight', I wanted to stop by and wish each and every one of you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I'm looking forward to participating here more and continuing to learn more about the 'Keto Lifestyle' with the guidance that you all so freely give. Many, MANY thanks!!!

Hello, new to the team. I've been LC for years but struggling a bit lately. I decided to check out this Spark team for additional learning and support.

I've been reading about your egg cooking with interest. I have the Dash egg cooker that does 6 eggs, I love it. I've been minimizing my "stuff" lately so didn't really want another appliance but it's so small and I've found it useful. They definitely peel easier using the Dash. I know you can also do eggs in the Instant Pot but I haven't tried that yet.

Dash also makes a mini waffle iron which I bought last month. I'm not sure if this team has discovered Chaffles yet, but they are also a game changer, made with mozzarella and an egg. They are great for topping with just about anything you can imagine.

One of the most important keys to Success is having the discipline to do what you know you should do, even when you don't feel like doing it. - Unknown

I went to Walmart they did not have the Dash egg. Just as well I gave it a go, Put my metal steamer in the pot, filled with water like I was steaming veges, Did not add the eggs until it was as full boil. Put the lid on and set timer for 15 min. Did 9 eggs. Drained the pot and filled with cold water. Let it sit. Peeled effortlessly!!!! Each one perfect. The last egg I pulled from the pot, its shell slid off in two pieces!!! So happy. I took pictures of the ones I boiled Sunday and the ones I steamed today. Freaking amazing. I think it all has to do with that microscopic skin between the egg and the shell. It was loose as a goose- no sticking. I'm a believer for here on!

Eggs make me happy

emoticon NIGHT Ive only used the Dash twiceit steamed out 5 oz of water. Compare that to a boiling pot of water on a hot stove burnerplus the stove burner is on while the pot comes up to boil and then the burner stays hot after you are done still adding heat to the room. The amount of steam emitted from a boiling stove pot can steam my kitchen window. The Dash has a small hole that emits steam. When you remove the cover some steam comes out but not a ton compared to some appliances. I was too busy doing other things while the eggs were steaming to know if I could feel heat from it. I suppose there is some. The air is so dry in the houseI welcome moisture this time of year. This almost sounds like a math equation for JAMES!

As for the eggs being hard boiled, yes, both times they were perfectly hard boiled but not to the extent a green ring forms and absolutely no runny parts. I expect a learning curve with anything new since I have no mechanical ability but both times the eggs came out perfect for my taste. For those who like softer eggs, the booklet that comes with it explains how much water to use for different cooking methods. I like to have hard boiled eggs on hand for salad or an easy meal so that will be my main reason for using it. I do like my eggs cooked differently at times so I am interested in the omelette feature. I can give a better review after I have actually used it more. LOL JC PS Sorry about the vinegar mix-up.

HOLLYCA good for you doing the research! I bought mine from BJ's. Just remember if you ike to do a dozen at once, the deluxe model is the one you need...it can also do just one egg. My first time I did two then four. The Dash comes with a tiny nail on the bottom of the measuring cup to puncture the egg before steaming. I wonder what the reason is, can some eggs explode when steaming or does that just make the shell come off easier? I just have to make sure the egg doesn't cook with the hole side down or it might leak! :-) JC

Read- Happiest day of birth to you emoticon !!!!!!!!!

JC- The Dash Egg, I've never heard of. This is brilliant information. I wonder if Walmart has it. Yeah! So excited. I googled the steamed hard boiled eggs and saw three methods all very similar. My cousin swears by it. Going to practice one egg at a time. Thank you for telling us about it.

Lotus- Have a Happy and Safe New Years Eve! Ill be in bed by 8:00 and read until 1:00 am. My neighbors get loud, but then I will know when its midnight.

Kathleen- Sugar is the devil, it sneaks into everything. I'm hyper aware of it. It can ruin a whole day, making you hungry when you shouldn't be. Carbs make me hungrier Sugar is the worst. Good job being so careful. You are doing fantastic my friend! Crochet hooks are intimidating I need instructions ( for a young child) for me to understand!

Fiin- Happy to hear you are home safe and sound!!!!! There is NO place like HOME.

Holly-NY- Neighbors are the best!!!!! I'm sure they appreciate you and the baked goodness you share with them. I have a weird 3:00 pm hunger symptom!!!!! I can almost tell you what time it is without looking at a clock, listening to my tummy. Its not every day, but when it happens first I drink some hot tea or just hot water, my go to snack is 1/2 of red bell pepper and a string cheese. This holds me until dinner.

Everyone be safe tonight. Looking forward to a new Year with all of you.

JC thank you for the kind words!! i may look into the dash..i dont need more on my counters either, but if i dont have to put all the steam from boiling into the air in summer (i eat a LOT of hard boiled eggs) that would be good.
so..2 questions...1. does it heat up your kitchen and 2...does it truly hard boil them. i need the insides hard...NO good or i cant ..i just cant. amazing seeing as i enjoy fat shakes with raw eggs, and half my daily nutrition used to come from cookie dough or cake batter (ok i am exaggerating on that one) but i cant even look at someone eating runny eggs let alone try and eat one. so those two things are game changers for me...

as for the vinegar..that was Kathleen not me..i go the other way, as egg shells are permeable..the only think i enjoy vinegar in is my salad, and i put it in my gingerbread men of all things..but otherwise i stay away. i never needed it..like i said mine peel perfectly and easily with plain boiling water.

just got done my weight circuit, worked on my pantry, made a list for tomorrow. off for lunch
(beef log and cheese) then lucy and i are going to put our feet (and paws) up and take a much needed break.

emoticon Happy Birthday READ! Love you in red! Welcome back FIIN! URBAN I wrote a post about using the Dash egg cooker after reading HOLLYCA's post...it steams the eggs. With the deluxe model you can do a dozen eggs at once. Before steaming the eggs, you puncture the fat end with a teeny needle on the bottom of the measuring cup and be sure to put the egg so that the hole is facing upwards during the cooking process. It might sound complicated but was very easy. The egg seems to separate from the shell during the cooking cycle so the shells practically fall off. There are many videos online showing the various uses of the machine (poach, omelette, frittata, soft, hard, medium boiled). I am not trying to sell anybody anything just sharing my excitement. I have cooked hard boiled eggs all of my life and generally have had no trouble peeling the eggs using the same water source and same pots for years. I never tried the vinegar in the water like NIGHT and KATHLEEN suggest maybe that would have helped the peeling. I have a small kitchen and my counter space is so limited I was not looking for another gadget until I started watching the videos. I finally bought myself one for Christmas. I've only used it twice...once for 2 hard boiled eggs and once for 4 eggs and it is already a life changer. I love that I can walk away from the machine while it cooks my eggs perfectly. Enough of that!

I've been on Team Keto about eight months now....I have learned to enjoy butter (shocking), eat more bacon than ever before, use more olive oil and no canola oil! Fried cabbage in butter, yum! Eat pickles and olives without worrying about the sodium! I make delicious meals with heavy cream and eat cream cheese freely. I know what fat bombs are and am not afraid to eat them! In January I started my food plan by reducing all junk food, then focused on eating low carb, then I slowly moved into Keto. Compared to old Atkins, I found the moderate protein with Keto appealing since I am not much of a meat lover. My triglycerides are at an all time low and my A1C is much lower than when I started. I am down three clothing sizes from last year at this time! I weigh and measure everything I eat and I track my food using a free app that makes it easy and is usually accurate. I love being able to scan a product and have all the macros that are important to me appear on my screen. I set it for Total Carbs. I do have trouble tracking some recipes with multiple ingredients. I have to improve in that area. Sadly, I do not have the support from my medical professionals for this woe (way of eating) so it does give me conflict. If I include all food groups, we all get along better. I can't see myself ever going back to my old way of eating because I know I would put the weight right back on. I don't use the scale very often because it can throw me off track...my clothes tell the tale. I think I would like to go down one more clothing size and then maintain so I dont have a scale number in mind. I would like to move my body more this year and learn more about nutrition.

Finally I want to thank our leaders JAMES and NIGHT for their dedication to this Team and quick responses! Big Thanks to the rest of you because I truly believe I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for you. I love reading your Posts and I think of you throughout the day when I cook, when I see quilts, homemade cards, talk to teachers, see farm country, grandbabies, hear on the news stories of or movies about Canada, NY, CA, PA, Australia, Alaska, Texas, Hawaii and when I hear or see the words JUST BREATHE...I have learned a lot from all of you, and I know I have much more to learn! Thank-You again and Happy New Year 2020 to all! JC

glad you are home safe, Fiin! whenever that kind of thing happens i think well. there will always be those people. and maybe, just maybe, my continued doing things for them, too, may someday spur them into doing something for someone else.
my neighbors are all pretty far away. we all have pretty good sized driveways. a couple years ago we got a 4 foot snowstorm. i'm last on the plowing list, mostly because the bakery is right across from my house and i tell my plow guy i can wait. but i couldnt even wade through this. i was inside, needing to go to the bakery, my leg was bad from the damp, and i heard a loud noise and Lucy started barking. i look out the window and there is my kitty corner across the road neighbor, with his snowblower, walking down the road. the bank at the end of the driveway was over 5' deep due to the town plow boxing me in worse...and Danny was here 3 hours cleaning me out. he got my driveway done (its a 3 car driveway..he did just one car width so i could get out of the garage if need be....then went over and plowed me a walking path to the bakery. i was so, so grateful to him. the next Chrismtas, again a deep snow on christmas eve...and i had a ton of pickups. i went over to shovel just a pull in at the bakery...and my other neighbor, Dominic, saw me shovelling when he was doig his driveway with his little tractor...came down and did the bakery for me, and one car width at the house as he knew my son was coming. so blessed to have kind neighbors. and they loved the baked goods that got showered on them afterwards!!

READ~~~ I am Glad you were BORN!!! YYYIIIPPPEEEEe!!!
emoticon

It took me 5 hours to get out of MN!!! WI was much better!!! I'm glad I got out yesterday. Today may have caused me more challenges.

Last day of the YEAR!! I thank everyone for sharing your REAL life on this Thread. YOU each guide me and warm my heart which warms my AURA!!! I find I look forward to each event in your daily lives. Hugs to ALL!!!

Snow shoveling today with two of my neighbors from down the hill. The family that shares my driveway with 3 boys did NOT come out to help. Neighbors didn't want to clean off her side and I reminded them that I had 3 boys (older than hers) and sometimes it was just me. BUT, the point they made was that all of us hopped out of our homes with shovels in hand to HELP. Not all people have the neighborly drive to be part of a community!!! Breathe in . . . breathe out!!!

Life is good!!! I'm very lucky that I maintain my strength so I can still shovel, push, lift. True I'm down to lifting the 40# bags of H2O salt but I can move the 50# of sand for a small distance. Use it or LOSE it!!! YYYiiippppeeee!!!!

Hugs to Surround Us All as a Group! Connie, in WI
The pleasant thought for me today is LUCKY.

Happy, Happy Birthday Read!! emoticon emoticon

Lotus...any of the challenges are to do just that..challenge you. if you normally have 2-3 snacks a day..try to improve by having one or 2. then try to go without..
each of the coaches that i've worked with..4 of them, said the same thing. IF you think you are hungry, which, if you are eating enough fat and cals you shouldnt be, wait 10 minutes. DO SOMETHING in those 10 minutes. write a friend a letter. clean a small area in your home. knit a few rows...in your case, make a card or a component for it. If, after 10 mins, you truly are hungry, eat something, but make it a fat. a piece of bacon. 4 nuts. something like that.
and what i found was. when i wait i dont want it any more. its boredom, or, in my case, 3 pm. when for my entire life i thought my 3 pm snack was a priviledge owed to me. so my body sounds an alarm. IT 3!! EAT.!!! even at work, i always had a 3 pm break. i never ate at the 10 am break...but always at 3. i had to break the habit.

KD my one and only trip to hawaii was in 1979. i went with my dad to visit my sister and brother in law..he was an officer in the navy there. i want to say it was Jan 10-20...and i remember leaving albany, ny in a snowstorm. when we got off the plane in oahuat 10 or 11 at night..i looked at my dad..he looked at me..we both said uh oh. it was humid, and 96 degrees. My sister said it was normal..and also that january is a bad time to go..because its the rainy season. that all could have changed, but i had a month break from college and we hadnt seen my sister in 3 years. Maui, i thought, was much nicer. at least there was some sun, and a breeze so you didnt swelter.

Lotus..on the rip...it was a little scary...i remember actually thinking it was fun. what wasnt fun was it created a vacuum and the rocks from the bottom were being tumbled around, and it hurt when they hit me. I also remember thinking well it wants me to go out, so going in will be counterproductive i'll go sideways. when i got out there was a guard coming down the beach..he asked if i was ok i said of course (i never once felt in danger) i was 12 or 13 and he said you grew up here? i said no this is my second time in the ocean i grew up on a lake. he said how did you know to swim across? i said..just made sense. he laughed and went on looking for other swimmers..i didnt realize until i watched the Australian shows just how dangerous the rips are. and how it wa stupid dumb luck that had my situation turn out ok.

Read I hope you have a really wonderful day!!!!

and KD I too am thankful for this team...and the willingness for people to learn, and to question. because we all learn from the questions!! and things do change sometimes!!

i will probably be in bed at 9 pm tonite. holidays alone stink, but i was never much of a new years eve partier. my best memory was somewhere between 10 and 18...my mom had all our huge family over for new years eve...to eat up all the holiday food..and just have a nice time. one of my cousins was pregnant and i SO wanted her to have the baby that night. she didnt....but we had fun with that. it was just a lovely night full of family and good times. I miss those days!

be safe tonite everyone!! i might add in one no carb drink to toast 2019. and bring in 2020. at 8 pm..haha!!!!

Hi. My name is Jen. I am fairly new to low carb living. I've been trying to do it for a month now. I seem to learn something new every day. I am WAY OPEN to any and all information on Keto as I have just decided to move into Keto living.

Well Happy Birthday Read!!!

I'm sure 2020 will be a wonderful one for you - what with retiring and all!! Hope you have a grand time at the cabin.

Thanks Urban for the picture - it looks like Hawaii!! Speaking of... DH says people over there are complaining it's so hot. In the 80s, which is unusual in December. It's 35 here today - the weather in Texas in the winter is unpredictable. I just know you some days need both A/C and heater...

I am very thankful for this team and the friendship and camaraderie I feel when I see a team post pop up here.

Everyone have a wonderful and safe New Year's Eve!!

By the way - I started my weights program yesterday, and I'm already sore. But not too much, so that's probably a good place to start!

Good morning team! The end of 2019-not sorry to see it go. But still a time for reflection. Kathleen and KD, I like both of your goals. I am going to keep them in mind as I think about how to reach my target weight and plan to feel my best in 2020.

Hard to believe I have been "doing" the keto woe for almost 10 months now. I can honestly say I have never gone through the holiday season without sugar overload EVER before, and not even craving it. It is feeling very natural by now.

HollyCA, I made the cauliflower yesterday the way you told me-delicious!! Taking that and Brussels sprouts for veggies. I also made a roast with potatoes and carrots for my guys-they love that. Sausage meatballs this morning for me. Then bacon, eggs, bacon/pork burgers for lunch tomorrow, and none of us should go hungry lol.

Night, I hope you get all NYE orders delivered/picked up and can relax. What a busy time this has been for you.

Urban, thanks for the pic! Someday I hope to get back to Australia. Still praying for rain for your country.

62 years old today and feeling good. Thank you team, for all your support and good advice in 2019! Have a wonderful day.

Never, never, never, never give up.-Winston Churchill

Night, that would have been frightening to me, being carried away in a rip. But sharks and crocodiles come up high on the list too!

KD, good for you, being so organised about fitness. I have no real plans other than to get back on strict Keto once our road trip is over. I am doing alright but I am not sure if I am catching ALL the carbs. My DIL for example, bless her heart, thought she was serving a low carb blondie. I ate one, trusting her. Then she said it had coconut sugar and some other high carb ingredient in it. I know there were lots of carbs in the one I ate and felt ill. And don't talk to me about mixed roasted nuts. There is carb creep there, I know. So I just want to get back on track. Enjoy your NYE party.

Read, your trip is gong to be wonderful too! I will add some photos pf The Strand in Townsville for you and KD at the end of this message :)

Night, I will check out the challenge thread. I wonder though, are you allowed ot eat something Keto if you get hungry? Or is that still considered a snack? Talking about weather, well, we still have horrendous fires happening in Australia and very little rain. Whether it is the end of the decade or not, we wish it would just rain....

James, I think the last day of the year is today here. Lol! It's definitely Dec 31st here already.

Kathleen, that's a good idea, to be more vigilant about sugars in ingredient lists. I zero in on the carbs. Adding a look at sugars will also be a good idea. I might join you on that little change. I think you will get to your goal weight in 2020 at this rate! Yay!

HollyCa, I have never heard of steaming eggs! Do you stem them for the same amount of time as hard boiled ones? If it makes them easier to peel, I am in! Lol! It seems everywhere in Australia the water makes hard boiled eggs hard to peel. I also love tuna and hard boiled eggs. And I learn things all the time in here too. It's great. It's hot here which means we are not really tempted to look around. So it's a win all around. We'll have an early night tonight too and welcome the New Year in in the morning.

KDGIRL Love those casino parties. Have fun.

I will look into that Dash egg cooker. Sounds like an easy appliance with no guessing.
But I don't have any problem peeling eggs. I always buy a few extra dozen eggs and let them stay in fridge at least a week until I need to boil them. Cold water and 1/4 cup white vinegar and boil them. Shut off, cover with lid and let them sit there for an hour. I peel when ready to eat one and they peel very easy- shell falls off.

January is a great time to start some kind of Keto challenge. What ever it may be I am in.

JC the egg cooker sounds great!!

I have to say I never have trouble peeling eggs. I put them in cold water, turn burner on high.when they start boiling I set the timer for 13 mins. When they sing I run under cold water to stop them cooking.
And that’s it..except I NEVER boil eggs until I’ve had them a week.
I still think it has to do with the minerals in the water.
A while back there was a thing going around about baking them to “hard boil”. People swear by it. Me? No. Just no.

Kathleen great way to go about things!!

emoticon HOLLYCA and KD For Christmas I gifted myself with a Dash Egg Cooker...the Deluxe model...a cute red one. So far I've only used it to cook hard boiled eggs but it also soft boils, poaches and has a tray for a small omelette. For hard boiled eggs, just pour 5 oz of water into the bottom, turn on the switch and when the eggs are done it signals with a nice tone. I haven't done a full dozen yet but the time was the same for 2 then 4 eggs. In the meantime I am busy doing other things and no need to watch the clock..it shuts itself off. When they were done I ran some cold water over the egg as I usually do and the shells practically fell off! Like you, I had been getting so frustrated with eggs that wouldn't peel! I envision a lot of deviled eggs and egg salad in my future! Hope this helps. JC

I've never heard of steaming eggs to hard boil them Holly CA - let us know how it turns out!! And I love tuna/egg mixture. Yumm.

I love your "check the sugar" idea Kathleen. I have dipped my toes in the real sugar world a few times during the holidays, and my stomach is paying the price.

James I think Sunday should be the first day of the week - but with rest. I understand the concept of resting on the 7th day though, but in North America calendars, Sunday is always the first day.

I'm going to a New Year's Eve party tomorrow - it's a casino party!! Can't wait - usually I'm behind the table dealing so this will be fun. Hope I can make it 'til midnight....

I just learned you can steam your hard boiled eggs! I was complaining to my cousin that I boiled 12 eggs, only 8 were peel-able. The rest the shell stuck on and it fell apiece in chunks. So pissed. She said she steams hers and they peel beautifully. I'm going to try. Am I the last to know this? Like making tuna with hard boiled eggs? I had never known such a fantastic thing existed!!! I've learned so much in here!!!!!!

Feels like it was just summer and here we are - tomorrow the last day of the year!
I don't make any New Year resolutions.
I do make plans for eating healthier and include exercise as part of the plan and just do my best. My Plan - Less sugar and more walking.

My big change will be to really hone in on the "SUGAR" ingredients in foods. As a rule we don't eat sugar on Keto. But I am going to closely read all ingredients and if sugar or any other forms of sugar are listed in the first five ingredients I will not eat it. I won't even buy it! I said I was going to do this last year but I never really was strict about it- this year that is my focus.

This was a good year for me weight wise. Never believed that I would actually lose as much weight as I did here on this team. I still have a ways to go before I am finished. Slow and steady will get me to my ultimate goal weight this year- for sure.

Subject: Last day of the week?

The international standard is that Sunday is the last day of the week. Canada, the USA and a few other countries do have Sunday as the first day of the week. I know from my German connections (relatives and having lived there) that the German calendar does have Sunday as the last day of the week.

I'll leave you with a few thoughts on that. Genesis 2:3
"God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all the work of creation."

Creation on days 1 to 6, and then a rest. Not a big rest and then work.

But then the Hebrew calendar has the last day of the week as Saturday. Huh? But their holy day of rest, the Sabbath, is Saturday not Sunday. I lived there once too and remember Sunday morning was like Monday morning in other places ... back to work. At least you quit work early on a Friday afternoon, sort of a one and a half day weekend.

The world is so confusing. Isn't the last day of the year tomorrow, December 31?

Hi all—finally was able to sleep last night!! I think I just got so tired my brain blocked the pain and shut me down. No matter why I’m just glad.
KD I think last January I posted the squeaky clean keto challenge. It was hard—I did it but didn’t like it. And said never again haha!!
People stopped doing the challenges so I stopped posting them but I think a no snack one for January is great!! Very attainable and a good one to start the year with..I’ll head over and post it shortly.
I don’t do resolutions either, and I never wait for a first, or a Monday, etc to start things..I just do it.
I did decide to track for at least this week—like Read I do the night before, put it all in the tracker. If I change it during the day it’s easy enough to modify.
And I slacked on my weights last week. So they are pre set for Monday workout and as soon as the cakes are finished that’s where I’m heading.
Read have fun at the cabin!!
Oh..and I’m going to attempt to post my days eating in that thread, too. I’m quite boring..I tend to eat the same thing till it’s gone, every day. But oh well!
Happy last workday of 2019 KD!!

We are having an ice storm and the weather guys were arguing about if tomorrow was the last day of the decade or if it’s next year. The one presented data saying technically it’s next year. The first got all huffy said you know how I feel about THAT!!
Silly boys...

Good morning! Nice day yesterday just puttering around. I got the laundry done except for sheets to take with us tomorrow, and finished ironing. Then spent a pleasant couple of hours with DM and two DS's at the beauty salon my one DS owns. The two always do each other's hair, and Mom gets her hair done weekly. She was in the hospital on her normal day so got it done last night. We just talked, but it was fun. Came home and ate some leftover wings.

HollyCA, started from the beginning of Call the Midwife last night. I think when we watched it on PBS we came in on season 2. So this will be kind of fun. I am going to try your roasted cauliflower to take with us to the cabin. Going down to school today, but will be cooking tonight. The appetizer at Old Chicago had parmesan also.

Kathleen, your trip sounds great! Right up your alley. Such talented people in this group.

IWANT, good for you on the tracking. I was pretty diligent at first, but haven't for awhile. I hate it.lol. But you and HollyCA have inspired me to start doing it again. I do like the idea of putting in exactly what I plan to eat for the day. I think several others on the team do that too.

Fiin, are you home? And hugs back at you! I love your positive spirit!

Urban, thanks for the updates on your trip. It sounds wonderful.

James, you provided good info for MEER, but obviously this wasn't what she was looking for. Hope she finds it.

KD, good for you on the fitness plan. I don't make resolutions either, but I need to come up with a schedule to get to the gym and utilize my membership. No snacking sounds like a good challenge.

Better get to moving here, I have a full day ahead. Have a good one!

It's my last work day in 2019!!!

Thought I'd stick with the beach theme...

I don't do New Year's Resolutions anymore, but I do try and organize myself and amp up my good habits after Christmas.

This year I'm going to do a different work out program every month. I have plenty of different DVDs in my workout room, a treadclimber, weights and bands. I scheduled my workouts on an Excel spreadsheet, and I feel I'll be a lot more organized this way.

Also - last year we did a "no snack" challenge in January. I'm not going non-dairy this year, but I am going to pin things down with the no snack idea again.

Anyone else have health/fitness plans for 2020?

Argh second time my phone sent before I was ready!!!
Lotus once I got caught in a rip in Massachusetts. I would rather be in water than on land..and I guess instinct just took over. I afraid of sharks than that drag.. I just swam sideways and floated and eventually came in a ways down. 5 minutes after I got out they closed the beach due to the rips..we aren’t used to them here.

Thanks for letting us know about Meerkeral James. I wonder why she even posted if she didn't want an answer. I guess that is her prerogative.

Night, I can understand rips being responsible for people getting drowned. I remember one particular day when I was swimming between the safety flags (in my 20s then), being smashed buy a few 'dumper' waves and then a rip took me 'way down the beach. I had no idea about dumpers or rips then.. once I learned I was so careful I almost don't swim anymore.

KD I have not forgotten about the photos of the place we had lunch the other day. There are some lovely ones. I just have to download them to the computer as I can never upload photos to Spark with my phone.

Subject: Keto and other ways of eating.

I think I may have incorrectly said that I didn't think one could be Keto and a vegetarian due to the larger amount of carbs that are taken in when you eat plant protein. That is true, ... but if you are willing to eat processed things, like consume whey protein, then getting enough protein without many carbs at the same time is possible. Plenty of plant based fats too. So this is possible combination.

Likewise for pescatarian. What is out is meat from animals. But you can eat fish and other seafood, and eggs, and dairy, like whey protein. This is also possible.

If you don't want to eat plants, carnivore keto might be a possibility. I'm not sure if this has more protein than I'm comfortable with, or if all of the nutrients can be obtained without eating any plants. I suspect so, I just haven't looked into this one.

Conclusion... Keto is restrictive (no sugar, no high carb plants ...) and combining Keto with another way of eating at the same time makes it yet more restrictive, but very often possible.

Hope he’s feeling better soon, Lotus!!
I know when I watch bondi rescue a lot of their first aid is from blue bottles. Yuck I wouldn’t like that. And the netting discourages the sharks but doesn’t keep them out. I wouldn’t like that either!! My coach and I talk about our lifeguard days..I say yeah well mine was easier..no tides to deal with, no surf. He says..frankly I think yours was harder..there’s only a couple places we lose people and they are all rips. So that’s what we watch..you never knew where you’d lose one!!
I guess, like with keto and everything, people will have their strengths in different areas.

Night, most people in Australia live around the beach areas as the inland is like a desert. So many do have access to ocean swimming, as long as there are no sharks, stingers, blue ringed octopus, sea snakes, stone fish, crocodiles etc. Lol! It is often not worth swimming in the ocean in other words, unless it is patrolled and netted. Many do have swimming pools, but we don't. Our son had a blow up pool for the little girls over Christmas. It is now packed away. We live about 30kms from the ocean and rarely go there. Our house is in a normal suburb. Few people in our area have pools. Aww, sorry DS is gone, but how lovely of him to make sure you kept the brisket!

Read, I love your new photo! Enjoy your time with DGD!

KD, I have not heard of the books you mentioned. I'll have to add them to my list of good books to read.

HollyCa, we were afraid to travel alone the first time too. We actually went with another couple around Australia, and that was a wonderful way to travel. All of us felt safer being together and two vehicles and two vans is way better than one of each in lonely spots. Sometimes friends will want to do what you want to do. Maybe that will happen for you when you get to the stage where you can travel! I hope so.

Finn, hugs to you too!

I need to start tracking again for awhile too. I think there has been some carb creep for me.

Meerkeral, sorry, I don't know about pescatarian diets but I am sure you will get good advice here on the team, if you so want to give Keto a go and haven't already decided against it.

Today it looks like we will move a couple of hours up the road to the north. Hubby is still not feeling the best and we don't want to inflict germs on other family, so we may stay a couple of nights at a van park elsewhere. Son and DIL are slowly recovering form their colds. Not sure who gave who what in the first place. Lol!

I think that is the true definition for a Pescartarian diet BUT you can adapt it to Keto by just using the fish as a protein and you can also eat the dairy.
( forget the fruit and the abundance of veggies- not necessary)
To me- Pescatarian implies only eating fish in place of other meats etc.
So it will work if one is broad minded and versatile in food selections.

If you get a chance I would like the headband pattern- sounds pretty.

oh Kathleen that trip sounds like FUN!!

and i dont see any reason a pescatarian cant do keto. I know nothing about a pescatarian diet so looked it up and found this: (from VeryWellFit)
To follow a pescatarian diet, you'll consume meals that include fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, and seafood. A healthy pescatarian diet will often include flavorful foods such as olives, whole grains like farro and quinoa, spicy peppers, nuts, seeds, vegetable oils, and other nutritious, filling ingredients.

so you would have to delete the fruits, most veg, grains, all legumes. you can do the seafood, olives, some nuts, olive oils (Inot canola or veg oil)
i intenseley dislike seafood, so it wouldnt work for me, but for someone that loves it i dont see why they couldnt make it work for keto. reading on i found this:

Compliant Foods
Seafood

Fruits and vegetables

Grains

Dairy products and eggs

Non-Compliant Foods
Red meat

Poultry

Wild game

so, if you can have dairy products, eggs, and fish, then you can have cream, cheese, butter, which are all basics of keto. so yes..take out the grains, fruits, and most veg, and i think you could do very well indeed and keep it keto!

Meekeral...if the above is incorrect on how pescatarian works, please correct me. as i said i know nothing about it, so had to rely on what i found on websites, and as i said earlier, and Kathleen backed up, theres lots of misinformation out there---i like learning and would like to learn more about pescatarian especially if we have a team member that is one!!

I think MEEKERAL may be a little over whelmed and confused about starting KETO.
I didn't fully understand her but I think it is quite possible for a person to be pescatarian and do Keto.

I myself have exchanged all red meat for large amounts and more often meals with fish. And I have limited myself to four eggs a week -limited cheese and no other dairy and I still can get the proper macros doing that. So it can be done.

Too much misleading information out there now about Keto. Confusing and flooding all the facebook pages and other places of advertising. They are showing pictures of ( their versions) of proper Keto meals ( which are NOT) They have rice on the plate and tons of fruits. It is not surprising that many people would be totally confused by this.
I think the only impossible option of being Keto is trying to be VEGAN. Definitely a challenge because of the NO eggs.

HOLLY CALI- Pick up that crochet hook and start making headbands. You can't eat and crochet at the same time! LOL Although you are doing fantastic with your foods.

After breakfast every day I fill in the spark tracker-I track every day- no big deal for me. I don't slave over it - just type it in and that is it! Later just tweek it if necessary.
If I didn't I wouldn't have a clue about what I was doing here as far as carbs. I really tend to mix up my foods daily.

We don't have any big plans for New Years Eve this year. An evening dinner out with another couple at our favorite restaurant and home by 10 PM. Then watch the ball fall on the TV.

I just finished hacking up the last of that turkey I made. Tonight dinner is creamed turkey with mushrooms and 1/4 cup peas casserole ( peas are NOT Keto) . Had enough left to make a turkey/mayo salad too.

Did I mention that I am going on a bus tour to NYC Vogue Knitting in a few weeks? Going with DD & DGD. Hoping to find some unual yarns there.

Every morning I complete my food tracker for the day. I may mix things up, trade a few things for others during the day, but end result is always good, Funny, when I click on my "Recent" foods I see all the bad things I ate AND the quantity of each. Cant hide from the truth. Really keeps me honest. I even go back a few days and look at a really GOOD carb day and use as an example for another day. I so appreciate this website and all the information given.

Read: Love your beautiful photo!!! You sparkle. I've been roasting cauliflower on top of Parmesan cheese (which is all on top of parchment paper so all the cheese is saved) 350 for about 25-30 min. (a little brown) delicious!!!!!!

Kathleen and Holly NY: I am a knitting and crochet "drop out" but the Ponchos you talk about sound lovely. I adore ponchos!!!!! and my hair is so short I love the headbands too (keeps my ears warm). I need to try again.

Urban: You are my kindred "Traveling gypsy spirit"!! love your traveling by van. A secret desire of mine for years, but honestly would be afraid to do it alone. Someday.

Last couple days of the year. Cant believe 2020 is around the corner. Hope you all have safe plans to bring in the new year. Love you all my friends. emoticon

Read nice pic!! Kathleen thanks so much for the pattern!!

KD agree.lots of info on keto on the info..the problem being so much of it is misinformation. some old and outdated and they dont take it down when new studies are done. some just plain wrong from day one. so difficult to be new and not know which is good info and which isnt. I'm always glad when new people come here and ask questions we have a good, knowledgeable group and if we dont know an answer we can at least steer people to good places to find it if we cant!!
the very definition of keto backs up what James said:
VERY low carb
high fat
moderate protein

i did make the protein mistake when i started. i think i was having between 80-100 g a day. it was the first thing the coach spotted when i hired him.

my boy has left. and with him all the leftover cookies, potatos, rolls, etc. he was kind enough to refuse any of the smoked brisket ( i froze it all in individual servings,) and the prime rib. he said MOM..i have enough lasagna for 4 meals. and all the sides. you cant have any of that you keep what you CAN have. bless him!!
I'm very sad to see him go and the house is way too quiet. already did one laundry one to go. All the christmas wrapping stuff is put away. cookie tins washed and drying. fridge clean, new years cake orders baked and ready for decorating tomorrow..all are being picked up tomorrow night or tues am for new years eve parties. so i'm going to take Lucyfur for a walk then work on a puzzle and knit and try not to mind the quiet too much. it was a really wonderful visit..and once i know hes home safei can say it was just about perfect. I'm a lucky girl...

MEERKERAL did say she eats eggs and dairy in the "PESCETARIAN" topic.

So rather than 10 ounces of fish a day to get 50 grams of protein, if one had a 3 egg omelette for breakfast that would be about 20 grams of protein right there, and fish with supper would go down to about 4 ounces.

Alternately my protein powder waffles each have about 5 grams of protein. Like you wrote KDGIRL, one can get enough protein if you are vegetarian, ... but eat some animal products like dairy and fish. But if one is vegan, no animal products at all, then plant based protein drags in too many carbs to fit Keto.

P.S. I don't want anyone to think Keto is high protein. It is very low carb, but it's not high protein,... it is just enough protein to meet government suggested minimums, not more really.

Read I like your new profile pic!! The red looks good on you! Your cooking club friends night sounds really good. I miss getting together with other couples. Congrats on your carrot cake.

I went back and looked at some of the Meerkat posts - I think there is a way to eat keto while being vegetarian/vegan, so I'm sure you could do it being pescatarian. It'll just take some research to do that - and You Tube is a great place to start. There is so much info on keto on the Internet it's crazy.

Might be in the 50s and rainy to start the new year - but still very lovely weather here.

Urban I'm reading a book based in Australia by an Australian writer and it's starting very Interesting. It's a debut novel by Benjamin Stevenson called "Trust Me When I Lie". I very much enjoyed the latest Armand Gamache book - if I didn't like reading new books so much I'd go back to the beginning and read them all over again.

Good morning! Such a nice evening last night. DH and I went to our friends home, planning to play games, but sat and talked until 10:45. We were in the cooking club together for many years, so got together regularly, but now that we don't do that, it takes more effort. But we were reminded that making the effort is well worth it. He is gluten free (celiac disease) and so I took the carrot cake, which he could have, and he really enjoyed it. They are very supportive of the keto woe for me, because they understand having to be careful about what he can eat.

Kathleen, I would really love to see some of your quilts. What a treasure for those you give them to! I have an old tied quilt that was a wedding present, and two beautiful ones that my dear aunt and cousin made.

Night I'm so glad you had a wonderful time with your DS! Hope you don't lose power! We got the rain yesterday, and today very windy, but no snow as of yet, and the roads were wet but not icy.

Fiin, I hope you have no trouble getting home safely!

Today will be a quiet day after church. Finish laundry and ironing. maybe clean a little and start gathering stuff together for our two night stay at the cabin. Looking forward to some time with DGD! Have a good one!

MEEKERAL,
Everyone needs about 50 grams of protein a day.

An ounce of sole fillet has about 5 grams of protein, so one would need to eat about 10 ounces of fish each day if that were your only protein source.

But however one gets it it's still about that much. If one eats lentils to get protein, ... it can be done, vegetarians can get protein even if they don't eat fish or meat, but then they get a lot more carbs, and they are out of the Keto range.

I didn't understand your comment about produce. In my case I eat a moderate amount of low carb produce.

I'm not sure what foods you feel you'd be neglecting eating Keto? Rice, potatoes.... ? I think about foods in terms of nutrients. What nutrients would I be missing if I didn't eat some higher carb food, ...where can I get those nutrients and consume fewer carbs?

Read that sounds good!!! Lotus hope you can get some good pictures. Australia fascinates me. i will admit,,,there are some guys i follow on youtube. they play horrible pranks on each other and their families..if they were my kids i'd kill them but they are so bad it makes me laugh and i need to laugh. but i digress...they live in these gorgeous homes..with pools and all..go to the beach, and it makes me wonder if thats how all of australia is. I've only ever really seen Bondi, and the stadium the major rugby games are played in. the beaches are beautiful...oh and i've seen the wentworth prison footage..love that show!!

Kathleen any ideas for what i could make? i'm in a rut with hats and socks. i need a new project..and now i have a ton of yarn. i dont know how to crochet so it has to be knitting....i do have that lovely headband pattern..might make one of those out of a skein.

@NIGHTSKYSTAR, I think keto is not for me. It's hard enough getting protein with nothing but fish once a week, but eating little to no produce at all is just not sustainable on a pescetarian diet. And focusing only on produce to the neglect of other food categories won't help me get protein either, as I am already allergic to soy, peanuts, cashews, almonds, and peas. And I've already mentioned why I won't do intermittent fasting.

Read, sorry for the loss of your friend but glad you could enjoy reminiscing. That roasted cauliflower sounded nice.

KD, we both get to travel, don't we. I love hearing about Hawaii and Alaska. Today we are having lunch with friends in a place overlooking the Pacific Ocean. If there is a good view, I will take a pic for you. Lovely to have found a massage technique that seems to help. Hubby and I treated ourselves to neck and shoulder massages the other day after driving so far. We were all knotted up!

Night, enjoy today! So nice to hear you have a bit of time off with DS and Lucyfur! I hope the storm isn't too bad. Nice to have a knitting project to prepare for :) Thanks for the Ketovangelist coach's warning.

Kathleen, what a marvelous Christmas you had. So glad your grands loved their quilts too. That Swift sounds so useful!

Fin, glad you have a warm place to weather out the ice storm. Yes, do stay safe while traveling!

@-JAMES-, we can't get $100-300 worth of groceries and it all be produce that we eat for 2 weeks-1 month. Are there better ideas than just eating produce? Ashton Kutcher was in the hospital within 2 days of eating a fruitarian diet. That's not what I'm interested in.

Oooo Kathleen I always wanted a swift and a yarn bowl!!! How wonderful!! You’ll laugh..I put the skein over my knees and pray I don’t have to get up till it’s done. And it STILL tangles!! Enjoy that!! And thank you for the edenpure info!! A friend has one and loves it too.. so far mine is great!! Well done on the food, and glad the quilts are well loved!!
My mom lives half a mile from an alpaca shop..that’s closing. All their yarn was 75% off..my mom bought me a huge bag of different purples..there’s at least 10 skeins. Now what to knit out of them!!!

Fiin glad you stayed put! It’s supposed to hit here tomorrow night. I don’t need anything, not going shopping, just hoping the power stays on!! Safe ride home to you!!!

Hello Team! Icy & rain in MN. ALL events this morning were cancelled due to ice. So, all 4 GK’s, their parents & myself are camping in this huge house. Lol!! We attempted to go to store & changed our minds.

College Bowl games are entertaining me. My son is a Sain with all the screaming, fighting & crying.

I brought most of my own food but there are plenty of eggs & cheese. I brought the Biscotti when I want something sweet. I’ll attempt that recipe again in a couple of weeks.

Stay safe!! We have Winter Warnings from Dakotas to MS. I hope to be on road Monday. I’ll ask my Angels to watch over my ride home. Once I get home I’m staying close to home. Wwwhhheeewww!!

Hugs to all!! Yyyiiipppeee!!

Hello Everyone. Welcome to all new team members!

HOLLY CALI - Congratulations on the new grand baby!! What a cute way of letting you know.

HOLLY NY - You will love the Eden Pure heaters. I have two of them and they work great.

My Christmas was wonderful. The weather here Christmas day was absolutely beautiful.
We went to our DDs house for an early morning visit and a breakfast prepared by DS-I-L. We opened gifts with them and then we all drove over to our DSs house around 1:00 . Son's house was already in full swing with friends and his wife's family visiting.
It was gift opening time again with DGS. Then lots of foods put out buffet style and it all was delicious. It was not hard to stay on Keto because they eat that way. Main dish was baked Ham, little hot dogs wrapped in bacon , scallops in bacon, shrimp cocktail and numerous other carby sides for non-Ketoers. Lots of desserts. The Kahlua cake I made was a hit.
All three grands loved their new quilts!!

The only food that I ate that was not Keto was a few tablespoons of Applesauce which I ate with my ham. And two glasses of white wine. So not too bad. It was a fun day.

One of my gifts I received was something I always wanted. It is for knitting- my DD & DGD gave me a Swift, a ball winder and a wooden yarn bowl, The Swift is attached to a table (a large wooden object with arms) and then it twirls the yarn around and rolls it onto & into a yarn ball ( ball winder). I usually put the hanks of yarn on my dining room chair backs and roll by hand. Most of the time tangling it beyond use. The wooden bowl keeps the ball of yarn in place when knitting instead of it rolling away.

Then Thursday evening my two DGS came here for a sleep over until Friday evening -
We played games and there were Legos all over the house but I enjoyed every minute of it.

Glad everyone had a nice holiday.

i am hollycali!! he went to lunch with a friend so i took lucy for a walk, cleaned the smoker out he just needs to put it away for me, took everything back to the bakery that needed to go, and took the empty christmas boxes upstairs so my house at least has room to walk again!! now i'm going to go relax with lucy till he gets back.
so glad the timing worked out as it did. we are supposed to get hit with a really bad ice/snow storm tomorrow. they are already predicting power outages and evacuations. last time this happened i had no power for 18 days. anyhow..just glad he will be back in CT long before it starts or i'd be worried sick!!

Good morning Team Keto! Welcome MEEMAW - keep coming here to the Chat Page and you will get lots of helpful advice.

Read glad you had your church group over and everyone got to see your decorations! Sorry about your friend... my transcriptionist lost her father in law on Christmas Eve. What a tragic time to lose someone - your memories will be affected forever.

Fiin you have some stories, that's for sure! Glad you are feeling better.

Holly it is a true blessing to have something so beautiful hand made especially for you. I'd love to see a picture of your wands!!

Urban, your travels continue. It's nice to get to come along with you!

I'm sewing on the beaded monstrosity dress today, then out to take care of my cousins' dog then back home. Cheeseburger soup sounds wonderful. I had a mayo fascia massage yesterday - supposed to release the fascia that gets stuck together throughout time. There was a Christmas special, and I got a nice bonus from my boss, so thought why not? It's a 3 part series concentrating on the 3 portions of your body (lower, middle, upper) and 2 hours each session. My legs felt so warm and tingly afterwards, and I slept like a rock last night. I will have the next one done sometime in January, and then the last one done in February. The guy is with a mobile massage company, and travels to your house and it's so relaxing. It's along the lines of Rolfing, but not so hard. More directed I think. Anyway, I'll see if it ends up making a difference.

I think it's like what that one therapist did to release your fascia when you had plantar fasciitus James... or was that rolfing?

Good morning! Welcome MEEMAW74! This is a great team, and I will echo what others have said-you don't need to buy anything special, like exogenous ketones, or really anything. There is a free tracker here or on MyFitnessPal. Find out what your macros are, check out the food list, and the recipes thread. I have been doing this since mid-March and I feel so much better. I spent a lot of unnecessary money at first, until I found this team.

The coffee at our house was very nice. The carrot cake was delicious! Everyone enjoyed it. We got the chance to talk about plans for the funeral of a longtime member, which doesn't sound great, but really was, as we shared stories and laughter. The funeral isn't until Jan. 9, which gives us time to be ready.

Coffee in the local shop this morning with a friend, then home to do a little cleaning, then off to friends for games and snacks. I am taking the little smokies wrapped in bacon with brown sugar Swerve on top and buffalo wings. Unfortunately the big storm has hit here, but rain not snow, and hopefully not freezing rain. But I have to go out in the garage to grill instead of right outside. We have enjoyed such a stretch of nice weather, it's hard to go back to winter lol. But it still sounds decent for our stay at the cabin.

Have a good day!

Night, thank you! We have decided to start north on Monday so all being well, we should have a good trip. We won't be in a hurry.

Read, I hope you enjoyed your church coffee morning at your house. Fun! Yes, we had fun times at Christmas and it looks like some of us will be together again for the New Year.

Welcome to the team and to the Keto way of eating, Meemaw74. You will get so much help here. You won't need to buy any gimmicks either, just follow a food list of ordinary things you can get at the grocery store. James keeps the list up to date beautifully and provides targeted coaching when asked specific questions. And Nightskystar is wonderful too about coaching and advising. It's a great team.

Hugs back, Finn!

MEEMAW74,
I can cover your meal plan for breakfast ... eggs are great, maybe an omelette with cheese, maybe just sunny side up, and about 4 strips of bacon, and coffee with heavy cream. Where I live it says whipping cream and is 35% fat.

At some point you may get sick of eggs. Then try these self made protein powder based pancakes or waffles, you just need to buy some protein powder:

Welcome MEEMAW74,

You don't need to buy anything on line, or at any specialty store. If you want to track quantities of things you eat, which can be a real eye opener in the first weeks or months, perhaps you'll want to get a digital scale. You can then weigh quantities of things you eat, and later you can figure out the nutrition of those things.

The main thing is to cut carbs as low as you can. No carbs is a near impossibility, but your body can manage about 20 grams of carbs without issue. In fact one part of your brain needs carbs (the rest doesn't) and your body would make carbs from protein just for this bit of the brain. You can't accidentally go to low and in any way "hurt" yourself. Your body will do fine.

There is a list of foods here:
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/t
eam_messa
geboard_thread.asp?board=0x58
536x6
6679431x3xfirst

It lists dairy products, like cheese, meats, vegetables. I had the idea of putting a rating of what fraction (percentage) of a foods weight is carbs. If it gets low enough, like in the 4% range, it gets hard to eat too many carbs. Lets say zucchini, with 3.3% of its weight being carbs. If you got all 20 grams of carbs from just eating zucchini, that would be about 600 grams of zucchini. About 1 and 1/3 pounds of zucchini. Nobody eats that much zucchini. So eating a "normal" amount of zucchini with supper and you've probably eaten 4 grams of carbs or something like that.

A good start is to shop from that list. What you will find is that the meat and vegetables on that list are fresh and around the outside of a typical grocery store, and are fresher and perishabe. The things not on the list tend to be in the middle of the grocery store, don't need refrigeration, and can sit on the shelves for weeks. If the bacteria don't want to eat it, ... well maybe you don't want to either.

Don't go for lean cuts of meat, fat trimmed as much as possible, or lean chicken or ..., no look for bacon, chicken legs, steak with marbled fat in it.

For fresh produce that doesn't have a nutrition label you can choose from that list before you go shopping. For things in the interior of the store, with nutrition labels, take a calculator with, or if you are good and a little mental math, then do it in your head. For example, here is a label from a can of tomato soup:

It says 120 mL (millilitres) has 20 grams of carbs. A millilitre of water is one gram, so lets say 120 grams of soup has 20 grams of carbs, 20 of 120 is one sixth, or about 17% of the weight of it. This is well over the 8% mark where I get cautious. Don't buy this tomato soup.

If you did consume a cup of this tomato soup, about 250 grams, that would be about 40 grams grams of carbs, well over a day's worth of carbs on a Keto plan all in just one item.

I'm sure this will be an eye opener for things in the store, and probably for things already in your house.

We are always here to help.

Good morning! Coffee here this morning for church group. Everyone wanted to see the decorations after I posted a couple of pics on Facebook. Plus we really don't need an excuse to get together. It will be fun.

James, we need you to come and coordinate the electrical stuff at our annual bazaar! With twelve or more crockpots full of soup plugged in, it can be challenging lol. Glad it went well for you.

Fiin, goodness girl, you are running all over the place. Glad you're feeling better after accidentally ingesting some sugar. Your hot sausage sounds good!

Night I made the carrot cake! We'll see how it tastes. I can say for sure the cream cheese frosting is yummy. LOL! Licking the beaters like a little kid. Wow the gifts your son made for you sound really nice! I'm jealous of the elder wand! I just finished rereading the Harry Potter books. I have a student who loves Harry Potter as much as I do. She would go crazy over an elder wand!

KD, I had to laugh when I read that you are already planning your cleaning and organizing. You are on a mission!

Jen, welcome! This is a great group! You will learn so much here.

Urban, it sounds like you had a wonderful time with your family. I'm so glad.

Well, since I've got company coming, I better get going. Have a good one!!

I just said farewell to DDs family, who are driving 600kms back home today. It was so good to see them and spend a couple of days together. Son and DIL want us to stay a few more days so we will do that. We may drive up to see my sister before we head home again, as there is plenty of time to do that. Now everyone else is resting but I wanted to catch up here.

HollyCa, that is such a cute picture of your DGS!

James, glad you worked out all the power cords and enjoyed your day.

Finn, that was heartening about your DIL being nice, It's great to hear!

Read, the 'new normal' sounds like it worked out. I'm happy your DGD is still in your lives and you are doing all you can to keep it that way. You would remember your Christmas in Australia, in stark contrast to an Iowa winter!

Night, how wonderful your boy is, making such special gifts for you! Lol about the 10 minute heart attack.

Aww, KD, the calendar sounds so cute. I got given one with puppies and kittens on it. I like it too but it isn't as personal as Chewie's!

WW has all new commercials. Lord, breathe in — breathe out.

I’m eating out of my freezer. Hot sausage was the surprise for tonight. I smothered it in the skillet w/bacon grease, chopped broccoli & fresh spinach. My mouth is ALIVE!!

My DIL’s breakfast dish had brown sugar & I’ve stayed close to home until explosion ended. Lol!! TMI!

Feeling better tonight!! Whew!!!

Night, quick question. If a recipe just says almond flour, not blanched, does that mean use the regular? Or for baking, should you always used the blanched?

Jen (RPOOHBEAR35),
you deserve a lot of credit! Deciding to start eating Keto just before the holidays. Many folks would have pushed that decision out.

I'll start after the weekend, I'll start after the holidays, I'll start at the first of next month ...

Deciding to do that when you did .... wow, that shows character! Don't worry about not being perfect.

Jen...you can make wonderful keto cheesecake!!! tastes just like "real"...i'd just leave the strawberries off. I serve it when i have company, i dont make a crust...everyone raves about it!! good job with most of your choices!!

James...the only time i've ever had a problem with my power is if i have the tv, air conditioner , then try to vacuum or shampoo the rug. and the phone is in that outlet, too. then the breaker kicks. in my bedroom...the only power usually on is maybe the tv, and one small light with a 40 w bulb. i had an old space heater that looked like a radiator. used to use that if the room went under 35...never kicked a breaker. these edenpures use very little electricity...and no a/c is going up there,. or anything, so i'm sure it will be fine.

Hi everyone!
I'm new to this group and to keto. (I started December 15th). Thank you for accepting me and so far the few people I have talked to here are so encouraging.

I love the Keto lifestyle. I wish I would of found this a long time ago. I have been doing pretty well. I really thought the holidays would be rough. Even though I may have not made the best food choices yesterday. I watched my portions. i did indulge in strawberry cheesecake for dessert. But I kept it to a very small piece. Before I probably would of ate at least 3-4 pieces. But now i'm back on track today. I did find foods now high in carbs just seem to weigh me down and make me feel crappy.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Well testing on Dec. 24 went well. I checked with plug ins were on which breakers, so that we could handle all the electric devices on the table, 2 hot pots and 2 raclettes. Maybe 750 times 4 watts, 3,000 watts ?

Worked fine while testing. Guests came, ... it got dark, turned on the lights. With the lights on and 4 things on the table, that was too much. Someone said the hot pot wasn't so hot, and I noticed some of the lights were out too. I had to find another plugin farther away and another extension cord running across the floor where I didn't want it.

Small stuff compared to the joy of being together.

NIGHTSKYSTAR, I hope your new electric space heater doesn't push things over the edge. Of course you can always sleep in the dark if the lights and heater are too much at the same time.

aww thats nice KD!!!
My son is a woodworker as well as an engineer. hes new to it in the past couple years. I so look forward to see what gifts he will come up with..
yesterday he gave me two gifts. I collect boxes. mostly old, mostly wood. He made me a wooden cask...out of bocote wood..an exotic wood that has a gorgeous grain. it was his first try at dovetailing. he thinks its sloppy..i think its absolutely gorgeous.
and then he hands me ANOTHER gift. the box was more than enough..but the second gift..well i'm a Harry Potter fanatic. last year he made me a wand for my birthday and i love it...but yesterday? he handed me an Elder wand. that he made...and its exquisite. he got the specs from online...just the picture. found the length from something the author wrote,,,then fashioned this gorgeous piece for me. its literally a museum piece.
i am a lucky girl indeed...

I agree with Holly Read - keep up the love and communication, even if it is one sided. One day it will all be worth the effort.

I told my kids no presents for Christmas (I sent them $$) and I still got a calendar with my darling grand dog Chewie on every page. Love that little boy!! He's been with us since March now, so he's my very own puppy. Until the end of January.

Looking forward to an empty house and lots of time to clean up and organize next year!!

Read I am so glad you sent your other son something. I watched a family fall apart..and the only thing that kept that thing string together was the mom constantly doing normal things. presents at christmas. an invite for whatever. birthday cards and presents. nothing ever came back. nothing was acknowledged. until it was. and then slowly, slowly the family came together again. due to the moms persistance, (shich i call just plain old mothers love) and her willingness to be as normal as possible, and available when the inevitable happened, the family is now stronger than ever. Hang in. keep at it. its horribly painful...i do know that...but i think with the way you are handling it, things will come around. and if they dont..you know you tried everything....

Fiin, we must have been typing at the same time! Glad to hear about DIL. Someone making an effort makes all the difference! At least it was relaxed at my DS's. Funny how you don't realize how much underlying tension there was until it's gone.
