I'm 60 and just starting to exercise. i started walking just a little at a time and now I'm up to almost a mile a day (or almost every day). Just stick to it. Today was my hardest day to walk and I don't know why but I just walked slower.

Today I did 60 minutes of water jogging. This is the first time back in the pool for a week. I've had a rash, but the dr. cleared me for the pool.

Today I did something a bit different than normal, all cardio and I think I'll take a page from my friend Bikerchick :) and alternate cardio days and then cardio/weights. I wasn't sure I could do a full 60 today so I did 15, then an hour later another 15, and then a half hour later finished 30. Like a mini marathon but done and feel great.

Today I did 10 minutes with my 5 pound hand weights. I'm alternating weight lifting and treadmill days to make my exercise more well rounded.

Did my treadmill workout yesterday and will be doing it again today. The fact that I'm using the treadmill so regularly was noticed by my husband. Makes me feel good!

not yet for me but quite soon. The water is calm and warm and beckoning. I'll be doing a 45 minutes swim, breaststroke and back stroke. With the heat I expect there will be more than one session in the water, cool off and burn calories at the same time, yes! emoticon

Thanks! I need all the encouragement I can get right now. Sounds like you're being more realistic in your exercise regimen. Good for you! As we age high impact exercise just isn't wise especially for extended times. I may invest in a Fit Bit down the road. Right now I'm just focusing on 10 min. per day with my treadmill set on 5% incline at 2.5 mph. Wimpy, but I'm SO out of shape. I haven't gotten back to weight lifting on our Bowflex but I will. That is a wonderful low impact machine. Very smooth.

Hi there Susan and all from before......Susan you are just getting back into it, it took me awhile to get through baby steps to now, and though it won't be like the workouts I used to do 3-4 hours which was a bit insane and to be honest hard on the old bod. Now I prefer walking to running, swimming and everything low impact. It's just been about 10 days now that I can get an hour in the mini gym I have upstairs. Exercises I used to do with heavy weights I use light 3 lb weights and do them until the muscle tires. But I started back with no weights just the movements and that was plenty. I also invested 69, for a Zip Fit Bit and find it does make me take more steps, I park further away from the stores, and thinking about setting the timer every 50 minutes to just remind me to move until it's habit. I spent almost 3 years in a chair and am ever so grateful for everything I can do now.

I know that was a bit wordy, but that's me. Today I did do 65 minutes in the gym with cardio and weights, cardio on spin cycle 30 minutes and upper body and core for 40 and with the cool day here was quite comfortable. Still hoping to get a swim in later.

Happy Sunday everyone.

I'm speaking for yesterday and my plans for today. Lovely weather, so yesterday did a 45 minutes back stroke breast stroke swim with my hubby, likely did about the length of 3 football fields in the lovely sun. Also went shopping and put in over 4,000 steps so a lot of activity points yesterday and more today as it it workout day and swimming. My typical gym workout lasts for an hour and a little bit, including spin cycle for 25 minutes on moderate tension, upper body weights, some core and stretching. Then I'll be jumping into the ocean for a refreshing swim for about 30-45 minutes. I plan on beating yesterdays 4188 steps as well :)

Have a great workout today if you are, love to be able to take it outside as well.

I did not exercise today...I hate exercise, but I know I'm going to have to change my ways. My husband and I have a very nice treadmill and a Bowflex weight machine. Both make ideal clotheslines! I'm new to this group and was wondering if you all have "challenge" threads. I need the accountability of an exercise challenge to help keep me on track.

Walked the entire cemetery yesterday, sounds like a lot but it's a small cemetery. But I thought larger than 1000 steps, which is about the number my activity tracker logged. Today, the park and back.

Miss MOLLY I still haven't ventured out for exercise other than mowing grass. But today, sunscreen and a hat whilst I walk Georgiana Cemetery, looking for long lost relatives for a fellow graver. Ed & Mary Hainlin, both there since 1930. Good exercise, plus get to do a favor. That cemetery is well recorded but the hope remains that possibly one of the illegible stones skipped in the past belongs to them.

50 minutes calisthenics + 20 minutes walking

How is everyone's diet and exercise going?
I'm about to get my grocery list ready to go out to shop tomorrow. Does anyone else besides me have a notebook of grocery lists and the prices written beside each item? It is very handy for me.

I keep my grocery store receipts and when I make up my grocery list I write the prices beside each item, then total it up before I go so I know if what I plan to spend fits into my budget. I use the household budget amount for groceries that the IRS has on their web site for a guideline on how much I want to spend of my limited budget.

I'd like to hear how other team members are planning their meals and what their favorite foods are.

I like the Spark People meal plans, but also I play around with the tracker by entering foods to see how they would work out on the pie chart. I like goat milk, walnuts, salmon, cottage cheese, homemade yogurt, frozen blueberries thawed, canned oysters, almonds, meats and fishes, citrus fruits, canned fruits in their own juice, V8 juice, root vegetables, real butter, cream, and cow milk.

If something is expensive I use small amounts in a meal. Same thing if it is something with a lot of fat...I use a small amount. Dried beans are something I use alot.

I've been slacking off the last two + weeks. Had a reversal on the weight loss track when company came to visit from out of state. It was lovely having company but controlled eating quickly became a lost cause. Going to hit the sun screen, grab a hat and walk the streets, this time for exercise instead of profit.

Jim, your walking to the store and treadmill exercise are encouraging to me to keep going.

Bern, I agree about the scooters, but....wait a minute...what is the fastest you can go on them? Hope to hear more about your walks to the park.

I walked my hips off yesterday, just like I was in a Rumba competition. Over 9,000 steps for this fat boy. All in an effort to get the guest quarters up to snuff before the invasion. Although happy to have company for a change.

Not today; but I lost another 1/4 pound, my waistline has a new bend in it and my knees have new dimples from actual muscles. I'm very, very surprised that I am loosing weight slowly & surely and am changing shape. emoticon
