Trying to fast today but have been nauseous so I ate breakfast so only 300 calories left but even if I end at 600 I will be good with that. Big thing is trying to get my blood pressure down I don’t know why it’s acting up today.

Good morning.
I took a total break from using the computer while I was in NJ babysitting my DGD . I just relaxed, knitted and read a few books while I away.

SPIEGY - I am finding I like following a plan that allows me to eat everything much more than being very restricted and having foods off limits. But who wouldn't. Doing it this way I need to watch my portion sizes so closely. I am finding i am so glad to have some of my favorite foods back I am eating less that I usually world, so it is working.

I have made very health exchanges regarding all my foods which I feel is a good compromise. No white foods. All whole grains. Only fresh foods. NO red meats.
80% veggies some fats and a very small animal portion.

I am still using the fasting days per 5:2 diet and I have not gained- which is amazing since I am eating everything I want but small portions.

PENNY - So nice to see you again. I hope all your troubles and stress are over and you are back on the fast track. Good luck pulling it all together and we are here for you.

Thank you Spiegy. Today is a fast day and I am having trouble what to make for dinner. I do well if I already log in my dinner calories. I reall need to think of some different meal ideas. Got in my walking video and feel better that I have did that. I had to wait a bit as I had my favorite exercise outfit in the dryer.

Good for you for avoiding the junk food!

My fast day was about 600 yesterday and I'm down another pound this week so 1 more pound to get to where I was 2 weeks ago! Yeesh.

I had a nice piece of salmon fillet last night and I really have to make an effort to eat more fish emoticon - I enjoy it so much and it's so healthy! I seem to not eat it for weeks or months at a time, then eat it consistently for a few weeks, then... back to chicken. emoticon

Thanks I will be on the train tomorrow. Spent most of my morning coming up with an activity for children’s liturgy this Sunday. Ended up cutting and pasting because I couldn’t find a page that would work. I got so stressed I was tempted to eat junk, but managed to avoid it. Eating a late breakfast and then going to do another walking video and wait 90 minutes before I eat again. Read an article that eating before a workout and waiting 90 minutes after helps women burn fat. We shall see. You will lose those pounds again.

Redidication is where it's at!

Shelly, it sounds like you're doing great!

Fast day #2 today. I went over my calories a bit yesterday but nothing too disasterous as in the end it was still under 1500. Whew.

My plan is to see how the ski machine feels on my knee tomorrow and if it's ok I'll start that back up again.

Penny! So great to see you!!! I hope everything is better or is getting there - we missed you! Sadly I'm with you on the weight gain - I'm about 20 pounds up from last year - so... yeah... It's a struggle. But we get back up and do it again, emoticon right?

So how do you like eating this way compared to keto?

I had a 600 calorie fast day, as a mini kit kat was calling my name after dinner! We didn't get any trick or treaters at all so I think we now have 2 bags of mini's left.

THURSDAY FASTING DAY emoticon emoticon HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

A good fasting day.
Calories 450

I am doing very well. DH & I are following a Mediterranean style food plan.
Which means fresh unprocessed with lean protein and lots of veggies. Chicken, fish, beans with very very little red meat. ( once every two weeks-if that)

After following a Ketogenic diet for two years I was sure that I would gain weight by following the new food plan - but I haven't. My big change is that I have increased my carbs all week but I am staying away from all white items. I am eating everything but not white foods - only whole grains. BUT the one item I totally gave up and I think that one item has made a big difference is...BUTTER!

KETO likes butter - Mediterranean NO BUTTER!
So I think that is why I haven't gained weight.

Spiegy , I hope you feel better. Back pain is the worst. I am doing my final fast for the week, unless Halloween gets in the way, then it will be Friday. I hope I continue to lose. This week has been a good one so far. Deep cleaning rooms to keep me busy. I may stop to eat a boiled egg to tide me over. Good luck today.

Thanks, Kathleen! It's getting better but still not normal so... hopefully more rest this weekend will help. I'm doing a 2nd fast day today. Yesterday was around 580 and I'm going to try to be closer to 500 today. I'm back up 3 pounds from 4 days of not keeping my calories in check but hopefully some of that is water weight as I'm still feeling pretty bloated.

How are you doing?

I am fasting today - I didn't do my Monday fast and am considering doing a back to back today and tomorrow.

I pulled a muscle in my back on Sunday and was out of work Monday and Tuesday so I ended up not fasting or counting calories and over ate out of boredom and generally feeling crappy about things. But the rest and advil helped my back and I'm trying to get myself into a better space....

Today i went to a catered 60th birthday party for a friend.
There was so much food and my plan was not to over eat.

Well I should have skipped the cheese cake ( like I planned too) but I just couldn't resist.
other than that it wasn't too bad.

Okay- that is over and I am back on track.

Good job Speigy and good luck today Katherine. My weigh in showed a gain but my measurements showed a loss in my hips and legs, so I will take that. I did start working out more and I am back on Nuerotin which caused a gain in the past. But it helps with my shoulder pain so I will take it. Could be the sauce I had with my zucchini noodles had more sodium too. Busy weekend planned so I should have more walking in. If things go well, I will do another walking workout today.

I am fasting today and just completed a 20 minute indoor walking workout. I was surprised I was four minutes in cardio and 20 minutes in fat burn all while side stepping my grandson. I am making zucchini spaghetti for dinner and have sliced cucumbers and red bell peppers to snack on until dinner. I still have about 109 calories to play with so we shall see.

How is everyone doing? I am down 1 pound this week which means I hit my minimal goal of losing 10-15 pounds before Thanksgiving week. I really hope that I can get another 5 down by then but I am concerned that not being able to do cardio is going to have a big impact on my ability to lose weight as quickly as I would like.

Thanks to you both! I was unhappily surprised that it was bothering me more this morning than it has since I hurt it so that's not so great. But hopefully it will eventually pass. Shelly I hope you get your hormones fixed and feel great soon! And Kathleen, I know you have had your knee/leg issues also. Boy, this getting older thing isn't for the faint of heart!

I'm still doing fine with my calories. It's a fast day today and I should come in around 515. My pants are still snug but they are starting to lose their death grip.

SPIEGY - Hope your knee feels better quickly. I know how that feels. Just a little bend the wrong way and - BAM!!

On Sunday I went to the NYS sheep & wool festival with DG & DGD and we walked and walked I walked way too much. The next day I could hardly move a muscle and had to take two Alieve for pain. Up & down hills is just not good for me any more.

Yesterday's fast day ended around 525. I overdid the sushi and wine on Friday night but kept my calories under 800 the next day to balance it out a bit.

I finished my 2nd week of c25k walking/running program on Saturday but stepped funny at one point and I have been having knee pain ever since so I'm giving it a break for the week - or longer depending on how the knee feels. I tried other exercises but then decided that it would probably just be smart to rest it as much as I can rather than risk it getting worse. Hopefully some rest will help and I won't have to go to the doctor for this.

I also have muscle spasms if I cut back on my Magnesium. I found if I have something salty it helps. I always have salty dill pickles as a snack before bedtime.

Successful fast yesterday and the scales look good. Of course my scale seems to change it mind on how much I weigh, but it looks like I lost a pound and an 1/2 inch around my waist. I will take it. Started a cholesterol medicine because my overall was 211. I still had good cholesterol readings, but I may go off it next week. The last time I was on it, my muscles ached and spasmed and this one is not supposed to do this, but I already have aches in my shoulders and a spasm in my back. Nothing hurts worse than a spasm. I wonder if its because the fat is leaving my body is why I have bad readings. But, I will give it a few more days before I make the call. I may double up on my magnesium in the mornings. Going to a placement meeting for my grandson. I have to put my retired sped knowledge to work. Good luck to everyone this weekend. With the rain coming in tomorrow, I hope to get some inside work done.

That's great, Eco - sounds like you are really on track for this month! And Kathleen - your ticker keeps going down, down, down! Wow - I am both impressed and jealous! You are SO hitting your goal soon!

We're going out for sushi tonight and I have been trying to plan my calories ahead of time. Wish me luck for sticking to the plan! emoticon

emoticon Time slips by too quickly. Thanks for the reminder letter!

An update? My weight has been going down ever so slowly but the number on the scale is a better number than it has been for a long time. I take that as a success because the number refused to move downward for many years.

I wish I knew what I'm doing right. Because I've been breaking just about every rule.

A team challenge has motivated me to track my food for October. Since the first of the month I've tracked every day except for one. During 2+ weeks, I've had 7 Fast Days and the rest have been low calorie days. I'm focusing on calories because I find that keeps all possibilities in check automatically. I could easily eat way more than 500 calories at one meal if I didn't pay attention. I recently discovered that basically eating one meal a day is a real IF plan. So I'm kind-of sort-of eating dinner for my one meal and if that is around 500 calories then it's a Fast Day. If I get hungry earlier in the day then I eat and keep it low calorie. Today ended up at 509 calories with no planning.

It takes a long time to grow young. - P. Picasso

Hi Shelly. Sounds like you have a solid plan worked out. Nice to see you here and good luck in your journey.

I have learned through the years that I always hurt myself in someway when trying to do too many different exercises. My favorite exercise is walking as much as possible. I wear a FitBit tracker and try to walk 10,000 steps ( 5 miles) every day. I do keep active. But I walk indoors on the treadmill at a local gym.

I started logging in my fasting foods here under the thread, "What are you eating on fasting days". It keeps me accountable to post. I have made a big adjustment in my food plan.
I am now eating 1200 calories a day for 5 days and no more than 500 calories on each fasting day. I have learned to never go below 1200 calories daily otherwise it jeopardizes my hair & nails. That is how I came up with the daily numbers.

Sounds like a good plan. I can't do pushups at all anymore, even wall pushups. I did something weird to my shoulder a couple of years ago when I was doing them and now whenever I try to push I get a pain. But I can do plank and downward dog yoga poses with no problems so I just do those.

Today is a fast day for me, too and my planned foods will take me to about 480 calories. I exercised for 30 minutes on my stationary bike this morning, too, so we shall see if that makes me too hungry or not, or if it's something I can continue on fast days. Previously I used my fast days as rest from exercise days, but I've been feeling good so I think that I can handle some moderate exercise as long as it doesn't make me too hungry.

Wow, Kathy that is a lot of stress. I have been doing this since March of 2019. I lost 10 lbs and have been gaining and losing the same five pounds since. I am also glad of the email because I am serious of getting back in my old clothes. I am not worried about fitting in a size 10, just a comfortable size 12. This week I have started doing some light exercises. I have a bad rotator cuff injury so certain things hurt too much to do, but a video series on UTUBE that consists of thirty seconds of walking in place and 30 seconds of a calisthenic exercise. Any push up are modified for me. So far its doable and I am sore from working out so it is working. I am determined to see 179 before Thanksgiving. Once I reach that goal, I hope to be able get my second goal of 169. I plan to journal on my nonfast days as I don't seem to do it as often.

SPIEGY- Thank you for the motivational Spark Mail. It is just what I needed.

I have been MIA for a week because my DH thought he was having a heart attack on Friday morning and when he complains I listen because he never complains about anything..He was being treated at the ER as if he were having a heart attack. We were at Newton hospital while all testing was being done to make sure he would be okay, Then a cardiologist decided he would need a angioplasty procedure to see if there was any blockage to the heart. SURPRISE!!
They transported him by ambulance to Morristown hospital for the procedure. He had two blockages 99% & 45 % - he is a lucky man! They put in two stents in the arteries. The others are being treated with medication. So two hospitals an ambulance ride and a procedure and 43 tests later he is home a week later and okay.
I was totally wiped out. I couldn't even eat. Just a little soup for dinner and early to bed and back to the hospital next day

So they recommend he follow a Mediterranean diet. After a week without food I did drop a few pounds so I am watching my foods closely so I don't regain. This has me really shaken up. He is a healthy person sees his DR every 6 months he is average weight- how did this happen?? You just never know.

On another sad note: While my DH was having his angioplasty done his brother in South Carolina passed away from a major heart attack!! We knew his brother had heart problems and needed a bi--pass operation. But it was not soon enough.

Your message came at the right time. I am definitely on board with getting this weight off by the end of this year. I am committed to doing the 5:2 diet more than even now. I think if I eat good healthy foods ( Mediterranean) and fast two days a week I will finally get on track and reach my goal.

My plan will be to limit my carbs all week and fast on Monday & Thursdays.
Thanks for the push and good luck to everyone here on the 5:2 board. emoticon

Nikki and Kathleen - how is it going?

I sent a message out to the entire team so I hope we see some new/old faces on here dropping by to say hello! Helllooooooooo?????

I did something smart yesterday - I looked at my food diary for 2017 when I was KILLING my weight loss and figured out my trends/calories as well as what I was eating and I am going to base my next few months of food on how I was eating then. Sounds like something I should have done awhile ago, huh? Better late than never!

In some ways I'm on track but in others it's still a work in progress. Today is a fast day - anyone with me? I planned my meals to hit just under 500. I'm doing it a little differently today with a small breakfast of 1 egg and 1 toast because I exercised this morning and thought I would get too hungry to wait until lunch to eat. So lunch will be lighter than usual, just 2 ounces of chicken and some cooked cabbage, and dinner should be ok with some lox, toast and cucumbers and tomatoes.

Yesterday was a beautiful day and my husband and I were both off of work so we decided to have an afternoon beer on the terrace of the public golf course nearby. We shared a salad there and 3 beers (1.5 each). So yeah, that ended up not being great for my calories because I was hungry when we got home and ate more than I wanted to yesterday and I came in around 1600 calories. Not awful but not in line with my plans.

How are you guys doing?

Can you believe that, after all that hard work? It's SO hard to stay on top of it all the time. My natural inclination is to eat like an active 17 year old boy. Well, a French boy, because I do like my wine, too. I guess I am always going to be fighting that battle.

Good for you that you kept it pretty sane, though. And Nikki - for keeping on top of it before you go haywire like I did! Do you think you will stick with the fasting days?

I have a 6 week short-term goal of 10-15 pounds. I know that will be very difficult but I'm going to do my best. We're seeing family I haven't seen in 2 years at the end of November and I was SO proud of how far I had come since the last time I saw them and now.... not so much. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I'm back to weighing every day so there's no hiding from it!

Hi SPIEGY- Wow you have been up & down since I have been here. Me too! Congrats on the recent 6 pounds lost! You are again on your way.

I just lost interest. I stopped tracking all my foods and just fell off the low carb wagon.
I did gain 5 pounds but I managed to get two off so I am three pounds up.
I haven't done any fasting days lately. I just started out cutting back on the "worst" carbs.

Good luck to you- emoticon
I am trying also. emoticon
