Once again, a goal revision: I now have decided to return to low fat pescatarian eating. It worked for me last year for 7 months. Maybe it will work again. Just ate my last meat oriented frozen dinner tonight. Starting tomorrow it will be all seafood and vegetarian. Glenn

My 2020 UnGoal: To meditate once per day. Sometimes I'm a little overwhelmed by the stress of caring for my wife and my dog (and myself). So I want to ease into getting in regular meditation.

DW and I were chatting last night about the "Rent dumpster and declutter!" goal. Of course we will declutter but we decided we don't need a dumpster, especially since a 20 yard one from Waste Management runs nearly $800. Instead, we'll bring the items we want to get rid of into the garage to stage them then rent a U-Haul truck to take them to the landfill. Much cheaper solution!

Our big goal for 2020 is going to be moving. Sharron (DW) and I have decided we want to build a new home in Southern Delaware. So hereís the sub-goals to get us there:

- Sell our condo in SC (I did get it on the market in December!).
- Get our home in Magnolia ready to be put on the market
- Rent dumpster and declutter!
- Box up items we want to keep but donít need and move to storage
- Get bathrooms remodeled
- Paint
- Hire landscaper to update yard
- Replace back deck
- Iím sure there are more...
- Sit down with builder to decide on options, price, etc.
- Build house
- Move!

Our goal is to be in our new home by Christmas 2020.

Looking back at my goals from last, year, I didn't do nearly as bad as I thought I did but I could do a lot better, especially on my fitness goals. I made progress in the first half of the year and then slid back the second half. So here goes.

Fitness goals:

Be more consistent in monitoring what I eat and getting to the fitness center.
Complete my "birthday run" - this year will be 60 laps (5.5 miles)
Join and complete "Run the Year"
Run more 5Ks (I just realized I only ran one race last year :-( so anything more than one but I am shooting for 4 races).

Non-fitness goals:

Be more selective in the projects I take on (i.e say NO more often)
Do a better job staying on top of my classes (saying NO more often will help)
Submit 3 more manuscripts

Since I moved, I gained 10 pounds. So my goals are:

Lose 10 pounds
Go to the gym 3 times per week
Do outdoors exercises (walking, hiking, golf) once per week
Get back on the golf course
Complete a section hike (at least 5 miles) on the Appalachian Trail

I would really like to lose 45 more lbs, but that goal is in the background, and I may not expect to get there in 2020. Achieving this goal would give me more energy and bring down my key numbers. To do that, the one change I will be making now is a form of intermittent fasting proposed by a dietician. That is, eat all of your food for the day in 3 meals, spaced 6 hours apart. You don't eat less. Just put it all together for three, large meals.

I tried this in the spring, and my numbers did come down, but my weight remained stable. Now, I'll try it for a couple of weeks, see how it is working, and then reassess. I plan to stay focused on bringing down my weight for the entire year (using various tools I have harnessed), if I survive that long. :-) Glenn

Lose a little more if possible, but job number one is to maintain, maintain, maintain!
