Welcome to the world I call "assisted sleep." Take heart - literally. Sleeping with oxygen is going to help you immensely. But you will have to be patient with it. Sleeping with something on your face may take a little getting used to. And your body has a sort of "oxygen deficit" it has to overcome. But it shouldn't take long. You may not feel as energetic as you did at age 25 but you will definitely find yourself more able to function for longer periods so you can start to do more things when you are awake and also stay awake for reasonable periods of time. I have slept with oxygen for more than 4 years now.

I was also being literal when I said "take heart" as my cardiologist was the one who suspected and then discovered the sleep apnea. He said that lack of oxygen at night leads to heart damage and early heart disease. You will be doing yourself a lot of good on several fronts.

When we moved from Colorado to Oregon (major altitude change) and I had lost some weight, my original doctor told me he did not think I would need it any longer. I tried to go without it. I only regained 10 pounds but the extended period (a few months) without it and I was nearly falling asleep at the wheel in the middle of the day if I had to run errands. I had a heck of a time getting the oxygen back - new doctors, new testing, finding copies of old tests - just awful. But I persisted and begged and finally got the documentation to get my oxygen back. It makes all the difference in the world.

Believe me, you will be very happy you did this. Good luck!

It's been a long time since I posted here due to a lot of new health issues. 3 1/2 weeks ago I did a sleep study. They said that I needed a C-Pap machine. Tuesday they called & asked what day did I want to come & pick it up. I picked it up this morning. Tonight is going to be my first night sleeping with the machine & I hope better sleep is finally here.
