Maybe try asking your doctor or nearest hospital. My doctor referred me to the one nearest to me.

Where do you find the local diabetes centers? I looked at the ADA site, but didn't see anything like that. Are they the ones at the hospitals?

Try your local diabetes center. I had my diabetes education class there. They supplied me with a freestyle meter. It only came with a weeks worth of lancets and strips but also came with a card to call them and get set up receiving lancets and strips absolutely free. A few girls at work use it all the time. The only thing they have to do is call their doctor for a prescription of how often they need to test.

Most States and counties have health & family services depts and they may be able to help. Ask your dr. if he/she know's of any financial aid programs...He may even have samples...

There are a number of things you can do... Walmart has a generic program where you can get most prescriptions with a payment of only $4 or so, and as far as I know, there's a little paperwork and that's it. There are also the programs you mention, as well as manufacturers' programs. You may want to have your father check with the local Medicaid office to see if they have a referral list for people in his situation... Catholic Community Services for example... you don't need to be a member for any of these, either!

... and check if there are any local education programs. A lot of hospitals and clinics offer free classes on how to manage diabetes, and they can be very helpful in reducing the need for medication through nutrition and exercise...

Good luck...

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!
P.S. I looked up enthusiasm, and it says the root words mean God within... interesting...!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But I don't think you have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too!

Hi All!!!

My father is newly diagnosed with diabetes. He has insurance through his employer, but does not earn very high wages. My mother(his wife) does not work and has a very expensive medication bill herself. I know there are PPA programs out there to help with paying for medications, but those seem to be for the uninsured.Im very afraid he may have to face not being able to buy what he needs to fight this illness. My husband and I are struggling to raise 2 kids so we are'nt much help.

Any suggestions?? Please??
