This is for my DH, who has pre-D. I do not tell him what to do. I prepare the meals and cook from scratch as much as time permits. Homemade means I'm able to control sodium as well. Many recipes call for too much salt.

The one thing I am doing is joining this challenge. Looking for info on how to get on track and get my A1C below 7. Not on any meds. Doc's advice was look on internet for help. Have serious hip & SI joint problems so cardio has taken a dive since April. Also away from home for 3 weeks
Eating on the road has been a challenge. I know what to eat but sooo much temptation. Help!

An important thing is to eat green veggies, veggies that grow above the ground. Root veggies have a lot of starch and that becomes sugar. If you choose to eat grains, whole grains, quinoa, steel cut oats. I have gone Keto recently and my blood sugars have Ben awesome. No grains. Meat, nuts, veggies, and dairy. Find what’s most doable is the best advice for you or your friend. And give it time. It gets easier in time.

Hearing the testimony from a friend whose been ignoring her diabetes for years & may possibly lose her toe or foot? She posted about it on FB and implored others not to ignore their diabetes. While I feel horrible for my friend, her testimony is a good warning to everyone. DH is now reading a list of foods to avoid. Of course, it doesn't help when many of the fave foods are on the "avoid" list. The frustration at being told not to eat everything one likes are often the reasons one chooses to do nothing about it.

What are your favorite foods/meals recommended for a diabetic?

I've changed my eating and following Keto guidelines.

I've also been starting my day with a beginners tai chi 5 minute workout and then fitting in an SP cardio interval workout video (it's been raining a lot).

And taking my meds.

One week until first follow up after diagnosis!
Fasting blood glucose from labs was 196. Today the meter read 131 when I first woke up!!

I test often, but when I write down the numbers in a journal, I also assess was the insulin enough from the last meal and write down what I think should be done. If it is severe, I call my on call nurse from my health plan to discuss it.

I'm eating more beans with my meals - great fiber and slows down the meals' digestion, giving my second insulin release time to kick in gear and cover the meal. For most of we Type-2ers, it's the first insulin release that's no longer effective. Anyway, this strategy is keeping my blood sugars even and under 140 at all times! No more spikes!

All things are possible.

Making DH put all sweets out of sight. He has a big sweet tooth

New business opened up and he brought home a HUGE delicious
Cinnamon roll. I ate the whole thing, it was so delicious.

Testing my blood sugar 1 hour after starting my meals to check how high my blood sugar is going in response to the carbohydrates I'm eating...good news is I've learned how my body responds to different carbs and am now able to keep my blood sugar under 140 at all times; the level above which diabetic complications start to develop. My A1C is 5.4. I'm eating plenty of carbs...the low glycemic ones with beans being a wonder worker for me.

All things are possible.

On advice from, and with support of, my doctor, about a month ago I started following the high fat/low carb/moderate protein way of eating as well as intermittent fasting (eating all my food for the day within a 4- to 6-hour window and fasting the rest of the time). I'm trying to eat more carbs with each meal; I've always tried to eat low carb, high protein but a coach told me to get those carbs in for my blood sugar keeps rebounding. emoticon
I joined a challenge to exercise.. that's my downfall.. I love tracking my foods though!
