I've noticed it for a while now. Hadn't thought to adjust my height to trouble shoot.

I too have this problem. Pacer counts me at 6441 steps currently while Fit has me at 5810. I've seen upwards of 6000+ step discrepancy between Pacer and Fit.

Google Fit, unlike Pacer, doesn't allow you to pre-set a step length. The only way I've been able to get Fit and Pacer to get anywhere near each other is to shorten my height in the Fit settings. It's currently set at 5-8... I'm 5-11 and still shorting me on steps. Very frustrating.

Yup, I come up short, especially on the treadmill.

If I walk a mile on the treadmill, Google Fit has no way of knowing I did that. Since Google is looking for GPS data from my Polar Beat App, it has no way of knowing how many steps a user takes to complete that distance. I'm sure it relies on a calculation of sorts. For instance, if I tell it I walked a mile, then it knows that for an average stride, a person will rack up some minimum number of steps, and probably reports that. If I jog a mile up hill, like I do on my treadmill, I'll be taking a shorter stride and racking up more steps than usual, thus coming up really short on steps in Google Fit.

To get around this error. I walk or jog using a pedometer. I have two of them, one mechanical and the other a FITBIT ZIP. They both read the same steps on the treadmill, so that is what I manually enter on my workout. In Google Fit, I just edit the steps and it updates accordingly. Works for me.

Then after my workout, I just wear my phone and let it count steps cause I mostly just walk around the house doing chores and such. So, with the corrected steps and the steps counted at end of day, I usually rack up my 10K worth of steps. However, I do trust my pedometers. They report correct steps during my workouts.

If I'm outdoors on a walk or jog, the GPS does report the correct mileage. So, overall, I'm pleased with Google Fit when I make the step corrections.

Hope that helps.

If I log, that's it. If I do any walking after I am not allowed a second sync. So Now I am going to be sure to do it once at the end of the day.

I am not having the problem with the Google Fit but I also have the Spark Activity Tracker and yesterday it did not record all steps. My walks yesterday showed I had over 4,000 steps but the total steps yesterday said 2,000. It has never done this before and I have a new battery.

I have noticed for the last week Google fit is shorting me on distance. I walk 1.52 miles each day and it will track it as .9 miles instead. I've verified the actual distance in multiple ways, so I know I'm right. Google Fit even used to get it right. But now it shorts me every time. Anybody experience this and know how to fix it?
