I've gotten in a couple walks, and I've been working on my eating plan. AGAIN!! My resistance has been low - as far as food goes. But I know I can do this and I will do this. I need to plan and prepare better.

Hope everyone is having wonderful holidays.

I'm trying hard to get mind into challenge mode. I've been here before with a different username so have some idea what's what but getting the rear into gear is proving difficulty

Looking forward to pushing myself for the exercise minutes

This is my first 5% challenge so I am trying to get to know all of you and your 'stories' that you choose to share.

Page: I hope your trip was fun and I think the fact that your Mom would have loved to have joined you is a neat idea. It is like she is looking down and smiling while you are having fun.

Brenda: I think there comes a time when we are moving forward in taking care of ourselves where we have to stand up for what we believe and feel is in our best interest. If your friends do not support you it might be time to find new friends. Scary about the sleeping at the wheel. So glad all went well.

Earnie: I agree with you. In order for me to truly absorb the full meaning of this holiday season I need some alone time to reflect and prepare for the New Year. You have a great attitude.

Lisa: I love that idea of the dice and small gifts. My family played something similar to that when my Mom was alive and I enjoyed it.

Rachelle: I understand your loss at this time of year. Last year I had lost my Dad so I went through a tough time since we buried him on November 8th. It will get better.

To everyone else who are still celebrating some aspect of this time of year, I hope the food will be favorable and kind to your waistline.

Here is my word. I received some coloring books last year for Christmas and I managed to color 6 books. I have enjoyed it so much that I asked for some new books, a new pencil sharpener and pencils for this Christmas and Santa obliged. I must have been a good girl. emoticon So, this was my first picture and I will choose this as my word.

I put it on my refrigerator freezer door this morning. Grateful. Which I am. 2016 was a good year and I look forward to 2017 and what lies ahead.

Good morning everyone. Finally dug out after a monster snowstorm on Xmas Day & Boxing Day, so heading off to town for some groceries & do the laundry, probably this afternoon when the temp is supposed to reach a "balmy" minus 13 C emoticon We haven't been off the farm since church on Xmas eve, so had a quiet 25th, opening gifts, calling family far away, eating turkey, listening to the Queen's message & Handel's Messiah and doing dishes. emoticon Tomorrow, we're taking a belated turkey dinner to dh's uncle in the city, and may do some other visiting on the way home.

Brenda - quite a scary experience falling asleep at the car wheel. Glad you're OK.

it's the last week of the year and counting down to the 5% challenge start. Must check the team page to review all the information & start to get ready.

Betty, welcome to the challenge!

Rachelle, I'm glad you were able to have a good Christmas. It was also a good one here, despite grandpa no longer being with us. We still have the extended family Christmas on Saturday, so that will be the true test. I did pick up my grandma and take her to my immediate family's Christmas gathering this afternoon. She had a good time and was thoroughly worn out after being at 3 different Christmas gatherings in just 3 days.

Everyone is choosing strong words, and I find that both encouraging and awesome! I think choosing strong words helps build our strength and character, too.

I went to bed 3 hours ago, as I could no longer keep my eyes open. My grandmother lives 40 minutes from me, then an hour away from my mom. So, I was on the road for 3 1/2 hours today. After dropping my grandmother off, I felt like I needed to stop and get coffee or hot chocolate or something to help wake me up. It was a rainy, drizzly day. The kind where one could sleep all day. Well, about 10 minutes from home, I literally fell asleep at the wheel. Luckily I was in the middle lane with no one around me. I woke up as I was drifting into another lane. I called my mom to have her talk me the rest of the way home, and that did work. But that scared me. I have not had that happen in over 10 years.

Anyway, I am safe and at home now. Of course, I feel like I'm wide awake now! LOL!

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

I finally got on this chat today and had a marathon session reading all 6 pages of posts so I could familiarize myself with everyone:) This is my 1st 5% challenge and I'm really looking forward to it.

Brenda, I had been thinking about a word for 2017 and as I was reading you and TCDragon54 words I realized what my word is. I'm going to choose "Joyful" for this year. My prayer has always been that I would have a joyful spirit.

Our Christmas was great this year. After praying for my DILs since my sons were in the womb, out of the 3 boys we will be getting a DIL in April (#1 son) and #2 son has a really sweet girlfriend who has 2 darling children. So my cup runs over:)

My mom & step-dad, 3 sons & their girlfriends, the children all came for Christmas. My sons asked for a Polish dinner this year so it was definitely a high fat, high carb meal, but it was good. Now to get back to a close watch on my eating!

Have a restful night and a great week!

Brenda,
You're on to something. I chose the word 'revival", because it is time to revive the spirit that once was so strong. It seems like many were challenged in 2016, based on so many of the posts. I am ready for a change!

The past few days have been busy and filled with family, which made this first Christmas without my mother easier to face. My daughter gave me a beautiful ornament with a picture of my mom; I could feel her spirit (and my dad's) with us throughout the day. We had some cardinals at the feeder, so the day seemed complete.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts. Wishing all of you a wonderful new year! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I think it is a powerful word to go into the new year with. Especially with the nightmare that was 2016.

Happy Monday, hope everyone had a great Christmas and weekend. Our was quiet but nice, went to church in AM and just completely relaxed, no computer, no nothing, didn't exercise but didn't over do in eating and got my water in. It was a wonderful day. Have a great week.

Good morning, Brenda! We're doing pretty good; had a little blizzard go through yesterday afternoon and into the night. Not much snow but the wind blew it into the shed and the barn.

I got in 40 min. of exercise yesterday in spite of the weather. I hit the elliptical 3 times and planning to do that again today and do a ST video.

I'm glad I have another day off.

Loved the poem, Jen! Thanks!

Brenda, good for you! Im glad you stood up for yourself.

Earnie, that sounds like a very peaceful way to spend the holiday season.

Well, our Christmas celebration is over. Turned out really good! We had a smaller crowd than weve had the last few years and have a one-year-old and an infant to make things interesting. Ive got a hunch that those two boys are going to have us all running in a couple years.

We changed our gift exchange to a bring one, get one kind of thing rather than everyone buying for everyone. That was much less stressful and less expensive.

My niece put together a game that I have never seen before, but was really fun. She took all kinds of little items like key chains, plastic jewelry, little bottles of alcohol, chap stick, etc. and wrapped them up in a ball of saran wrap. Then one person starts unwrapping it and someone else starts rolling a couple dice. The person who is unwrapping gets anything that comes loose before the person rolling the dice rolls doubles. Then the dice roller gets to unwrap while the next person rolls. What a hoot!

Im ready for a detox! I need to eat veggies for the next week; I feel like crap this evening! I actually got out and walked this afternoon and did 10 min. on the elliptical. The only thing I brought home to eat, other than what I took or got as gifts, is carrot sticks. Homegrown by my cousin, mmm!

Merry Christmas!

Earnie, that sounds like the best way to spend it. I am alone, too. I went to dinner by myself, went to the movies by myself (both tonight for Star Wars and last night for Sing), and will be spending the morning by myself tomorrow. I have bought something special to have for breakfast, then putting my traditional roast on for dinner. I'll probably go to my parents and watch movies with them in my jammies (which mom bought for me today). It has been a good day so far. I did get a little depressed about doing this alone again (I wasn't alone last year, I was in a relationship this time last year). But I'd rather be happy and alone, than miserable with someone I should not be with. I have a wonderful family and friends. I'll be picking grandma up on Monday (we're all trying to keep her preoccupied this weekend since it is her first without grandpa) to take her to my family's Christmas exchange. So, I won't be alone all weekend.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

Wishing everyone a Very Merry Christmas. May God have mercy on you. May he comfort and keep you safe.

I have enjoyed spending the Christmas holidays in my own home this year. Yes, I am alone, but I have spent precious time, laughter, food, and drink with friends and family during the season. Christmas day dinner will be with friends, but Christmas Eve and Christmas morning will be spent home with the dog enjoying the decorations, the Christmas Eve mass service from Rome on TV and reviewing the past, looking forward to a new year and being thankful for all my blessings.

Brenda I am so sorry to hear that. Hugs my friend and now we all need to do what is best for ourselves and if someone wants to offer advice it should be constructive not demeaning.

Merry Christmas

I hate to say it, but I had to get nasty with a group of people who were supposed to be supportive of what I need to do to get healthy. But they didn't. Instead the chastised me in a very petty way. I had told them that I had planned on doing a program I had done in the past. Because I had gained weight, they said it didn't work for me and I was stupid for doing it again. Even if I did lose a lot of weight on it before. So, I'm angry at them and felt the need to tell them why I'm angry. I've not heard anything yet. But we'll see. It is Christmas Eve and I hate it that I had to get ugly today.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

May the Memories be GRAND
May the Memories be GREAT

May we lose all these inches
May we lose all this weight.

May our thighs be tight,
and lose all that jiggle.

May our pockets be full-
of money GALORE

May our houses be clean
and a shine on the floor.

May our shelves be full,
of food, staples, and such
and the fridge-have fresh fruits and veggies
Full of ripeness and with no MUSH....

Presents topple under the tree
popping out of our stockings-
for all to see.

May we have unlimited fun, friendship and follies
May the NEW YEAR Begin too- and we all will be Jolly!!!!

I echo what Kurtzie said. The main thing is to be safe and happy this last part of December so we can start out the New Year ready to make some of our goals a reality.

Karen and Mauri, my condolences as well for your recent losses. emoticon I buried my Dad (my second parent to die) last November and Christmas was tough. Time does indeed heal all wounds.

Music2HisEars: I read your blog entry. I am glad you are looking forward to this coming year. I understand what you are going through and yes there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There really hasn't been anything that I haven't experienced in my 63 1/2 years and again 'this too shall pass'. You will lose the extra weight again. If you did it once you can do it again. emoticon so relax and take a deep breathe....

Not much on this end here. I am at the tail end of a head cold that I have heard is going around. Not surprisingly considering the crazy weather we all have been having including us. One minute it is 70s, the next it is 30s and then back up in the 50s. I don't know to dress for that. Does anyone? Especially when I am menopausal on top of that. LOL. emoticon

Lisa, thanks for the offer of housecleaning. I would definitely take you up on that. I kid you not. LOL. I do like a clean house. In spite of my back and left hip going in spasms I worked on one room yesterday and made some progress. I just want the main rooms we enjoy on Christmas to look nice. The rest can wait. LOL. I am definitely serious though about hiring someone after the holidays. I am retired and looking at dust bunnies just plain bugs me. emoticon LOL.

Have a great day, all Pam

Hello everyone! I'm a little worn out this afternoon and getting ready to go take a nap. I've been up since 6am (I'm determined to keep getting up at my normal time), had brunch with one of my BFFs, went to both Kroger and Walmart Marketplace (love that place...don't have to go to Super Walmart to get food or the hassle). I then went to my mom's to pick up my swimsuit from this past summer and a suit she couldn't wear (still had tags on it). My suit is a size 18, and the new suit is a 22...and it fits. It has me bummed out, because this is the heaviest and largest I've ever been in my life. And it is depressing to think that this time last year I weighed 30 lbs less and 70 lbs heavier from 2 years ago. I'm determined to lose that 70 lbs by this time next year. And I know that I can do it. So, starting tomorrow, I'm going to start walking laps in the pool at the gym. Then when I'm released to, I'll start going to Aqua Fit again. And, by mid-February, I should be able to start Onion Camp ( www.onioncamp.com ). I did Onion Camp 2 years ago and lost over 50 lbs in less than 4 months. I started out as a size 20 and dropped to a size 12 by Valentines Day (I started at the beginning of November). It wasn't easy, but I did it, and I plan on doing it again!

Anyway, I hope you all are having a fabulous day!

Speaking of recipes, here is the Weight Loss Soup I made a couple of weeks ago (made 12 servings) recipes.sparkpeople.com/reci
pe-detail.
asp?recipe=3172152
. It is really good and hearty. Very filling and I didn't get tired of it. It is also less than 100 calories per serving.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

Brenda, good luck with the spinal block. I hope this second one is the last one.

Mauri, how awesome! I have been to Rome. That was in '92. Mom and I went and we did attend Mass at St. Peter's - not midnight Mass on Christmas - but it was special.

Yes, many of you have posted of losses. My sympathies and understanding are with you. It's a special time of year and it's special to each one of us in very different ways. In my opinion that's what makes it so 'special.' I tend to think back to my childhood and remember the fun we had. My older brother could not keep a secret and must not have known that whisper means talk quietly! Everyone knew what we (the 2 of us) were giving them for Christmas. I smile now as I remember my frustration. Fun, loving, family memories.

I'm off now for 2 weeks. I've been looking at different recipes here on SP. I plan to make a lot of healthy meals for my family and get in some extra 'fitness' time.

Good morning, everyone! Happy Thursday! I'm on vacation, but I promised myself I would not be a slacker, so here I am up and having a cup of coffee at 6:30 am. I've been up since 6. I used to be a chronic snooze button smasher, but I gave up my evil ways after nearly 1/2 a century of addiction. It actually feels good, but it takes 3 alarms going off at once to get me to get up and stay up, including one using an app I Can't Wake Up. It makes you do specified tasks in order to turn it off. Mine makes me do 4 math questions. And no, they are not easy ones either.

Anyway, I wish I could say that the spinal block was unnecessary, but it is. It will actually be #2, as the first was in mid-November. The doctor stated that it does take two to three before they actually start to allow the disc to heal. She is really good as I only feel a little bit of a burning sensation. Otherwise it is quick and painless. This time I will wait until my back is healed before I do any strenuous exercise, like heavy lifting or being on my feet (outside of water) for more than 5 to 10 minutes at a time.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

Good morning. Can't sleep so hanging out at SP.

Karen, condolences on the loss of your BIL. No matter the circumstances, memories, good & bad, surface. Sending peace filled energy.

Babs, I was blessed to be at Midnight Mass at St. Peter's Basilica in 1981. It was my first visit to Italy to be with my dad's family. My friend, Fr. Peter, came with me. He was able to get tickets for us to attend. So sacred!

For those who have had losses of loved ones, I understand & send you peace. Holidays are so difficult. My dad & mom both died at Christmas time. Though there is sadness in my heart, I try to remember their joy & honor them with my celebration.

I have found my 2017 Word of the Year to guide me. Now I need to find time to blog about it.

Two more days & I am on vacation. Can't wait!

OK. Going to try the sleep thing again. G'night.

Sheila, thats pretty tough! Prayers for you and your SIL. My 16 year old nephew was killed in a car wreck the day before Thanksgiving last year. This is our 2nd Christmas without him, but we were all still a bit in shock last Christmas and it is really hitting some of us this year.

Brenda, no spinal block sounds good to me! emoticon Is there any chance that you WONT have to have it at all? What can I do to make 2017 a better year for you?

Pam, if I lived closer, Id come clean your house for you, no charge! Its amazing the things we can ignore if we have to! emoticon

Karen, your DH seems to have a bit of a sense of humor! Sympathies to both of you, in spite of the circumstances. I dont envy your husband having to deal with all that.

I have been mulling over my goals (both short and long term) for 2017. 2016 was THE WORST year of my entire 48 years on this earth, so I'm ready for the year to be over and start with a new slate on January 1, 2017. I took some time and actually penned a new blog on the very subject (see it at www.simplicityclassy.com ). I just want to be happy again, and fortunately for me with the winter challenge getting ready to start, losing weight really did make me happy 2 years ago.

Here's to a healthier 2017!!!! emoticon
