Joyce, where did you find your divided plates? I love it!
HICKOK-HALEY prayers are coming your way!
This week sure has flown by. Super busy at work and cold rainy weather. I was bad about getting my steps this week.

I like the color of the plates.

I had a biopsy done, and it came back stage 1 cancer. On the 15th I will have a lumpectomy. After that I can't do heavy duty exercise for a while. Just wanted to let you know, that I won't be slacking, just have to take it easy. After I heal I will be having radiation treatments, 5 days a week, for 5 to 7 weeks. They are not sure I can have that done where I live, if not then I will have to travel down to the Los Angeles area. So probably won't get in a lot of exercise then either.

An interesting discussion of not only plate size, but the color of your plate. Now I need to get out and buy a green 9" plate.

Just a quick drive-by to say hello. I have a 7 day work week so two days to go and a couple of the weekdays have been long ones. Same story, right? 'Tis the Hope Bus season.

I've tracked food on paper and have to enter yesterday's & today's on SP. Will try to do that this evening.

Hope you all have a great weigh-in tomorrow.

Here is one of the plates I use, the plate itself is 10 inches but the circle where division for food goes = 9 inches. I have a couple of these kinds, I like them.

Your very welcome Mary.

Wanted to also share this quote I got.

"If you fell down yesterday, stand up today."

This quote belongs to Herbert George "H. G." Wells (1866 - 1946).

Today is another day and the opportunity for a new beginning. It is a gift, and that is why it is called "the present." Do not let a bad yesterday, spoil a good today. Toddlers put this lesson into practice every day. We, as adults, can learn from them in this instance. Have you watched a baby learning to walk? The baby falls many times in the process, cries in some cases but never gives up. The toddler is back on his/her feet in a flash and tries again and again. Adults have a great deal to learn from children to stay focused on tasks at hand. Many times in real life, as an adult, we get sidetracked from the overall objective by other things competing for our attention. It takes a great deal of effort and determination to ignore the unimportant and focus on the important things in life. So, stand up today, and start walking/running towards success!

Thanks for that list, Joyce! I bought some avocados, broccoli, and onions yesterday, and I'm also taking a supplement. It's so interesting to see the numbers totaled, especially since I suspected I wasn't getting enough but didn't know exactly how much I was missing!

How's everybody's Tuesday going so far? I got my walk in and I'm trying to reduce my pace. Right now I'm at 19-20 minutes per mile when it used to be almost 30 minutes. It hailed/snowed a bit and there was a harsh cold wind, but I'd brought my umbrella and got through it. My left knee feels swollen and is hurting something fierce though.

2-3 Tums have 600 mg of calcium--I take the generic version of Centrum Silver and it has 500 mg, Citracal calcium supplement has 1000-1200 and a cup (8oz) of milk, doesn't matter if full or low fat, no fat, has 300 mg. Due to some health probs I've had, I have to take calcium supplements. The dr. said that when taking supplements be sure and take vitamin D. Vit.D is essential to calcium absorption. The way I read the rules for the challenge, supplements count in getting your calcium in.Hope this helps you meet the challenge without extra calories.

I didn't get to finish the winter challenge, and I was too late to sign up for spring. But I'll be buzzing around the airport as I love watching the planes. I'll definitely be back for the summer challenge if I don't miss the sign up. Good luck, everybody!

I cannot take calcium vitamins so I have to stick with foods. I had 2 milks, a yogurt, an orange, a few almonds, and kale and made my quota today. It just takes preplanning. Thanks for responding

Remember we can add in our vitamins in the spark tracker to figure out calcium intake.

Some foods that are high in calcium are collard greens, any leafy green vegetable, black-eyed peas, blackstrap molasses (add it in your oatmeal), fortified orange juice, oranges, salmon, beans, but most of all, dairy products pack the biggest punch. emoticon emoticon

This new calcuim challenge is going to be "challenging" for me! emoticon In looking over my tracking history most days I clock in with around 50% of recommended. I copied the sheet of how much calcuim is in a single serving of some foods and I did some research. The hardest part for me is including 100% of calcium without going over my calorie allowance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the reminder, Kurtzie! I am already on track with some of those. I find an hour of exercise comes easily when the weather is good, but an hour inside is a challenge for me. Even 10 minuets on my step machine is BORING. I need to use videos or something. Today is dreary and threatening rain.

These are things we all know but thought I would share again as a reminder, info from Mayo Clinic

Bonus 5 habits
These bonus habits can help maximize your weight loss during Lose It!

The Add 5 Habits and Break 5 Habits in Lose It! are must-dos. The 5 Bonus Habits here are optional but recommended. They're all associated with weight loss. The more of them you follow — and the more closely you follow them — the more successful you’re likely to be in your weight-loss efforts.

1. Keep food records — write down everything you eat.
Record keeping lets you know exactly what and how much you're eating. It also allows you to identify problem patterns in your eating behavior. People who keep food records are more successful at weight loss.

2. Keep activity records — type of activity, duration and intensity.
Track the variety of activities and exercises that make up your day. Keeping a daily activity record for at least two weeks helps you to be accountable and should help you establish a regular exercise routine. Seeing your progress can build confidence and inspire you to set higher goals.

3. Move more — walk or exercise for 60 minutes or more every day.
Increase your walking or exercise to 60 minutes or more every day. This doesn't have to be 60 minutes in addition to the 30 minutes or more recommended as part of Add 5 Habits. It's 60 minutes or more total. Of course, the more the better, within reason.

4. Eat "real food" — mostly fresh, and healthy frozen or canned food.
Food is processed to make it safe, available and convenient to use, but the processing may add unwanted fat, sugar, calories and salt. "Real food" is loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients. Fast food is often filled with empty calories. Not everything that's processed is bad — but it's up to you to make the healthiest choices. "Real food" is often grown more locally and doesn't have as much packaging.

5. Write down your daily goals — what motivates you each and every day.
Your overall weight goal can often be met through a series of smaller performance goals that build on one another. Goal setting keeps you motivated and helps you stick with your program.

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a good Easter! Being at my husband's aunt's place really threw me off because she cooks for a dang ARMY and expects everyone to eat her (amazing) food and drink wine or Prosecco until practically exploding. I did okay, all things considered! :) Today I'm doing REALLY well and am about to take my exercise further.

I need to weigh myself again as it's no longer that time of the month and I'm HOPING the four pounds I gained last week was due to the intense bloating I always get from it. *Crosses fingers*

Success story is right. Bariatric surgery is just a small piece of the puzzle. I had a gastric sleeve performed over 5 years ago. I took off 35 lbs. before the surgery, 40 lbs. after and have kept if off only by consistent exercise, healthy eating, and daily Sparking. It has to be a plan for healthy living for the rest of your life or it won't help at all. NO magic bullet!!!

Think I found the entrance to Peter Pan's hide out while hiking the Great Cypress Swamp (4.12 miles) in Virginia Beach, Va.

Joyce, thanks for the link to the article. I try to be mindful but somedays I just eat with no thought because of my schedule.

Luann, congrats on working on being successful posted bariatric surgery. Three people I know gained it back and then some.

That's great Luann, yes my friend had that surgery and she has gained back much of the weight after a few years. Good for you for continuing to follow through.

It is a very good article. Thanks for sharing. Saw my bariatric surgeon today for my 5 year check-up. She was over the moon with what I gave done and am doing. 95% of the people who have this surgery gain it back plus some. She called me her success story.

Buzzing by just to say hi and I hope everyone's been having a fabulous week so far! I got exercise in today even though I didn't particularly want to do it, especially with a sudden onset of knee pain and also cramps from the ol' crimson tsunami. emoticon Despite the pain I know my body is thanking me today! :)

Thought I'd buzz around the airport to see how the teams are doing. Hi, all! I'm Lynn from Michigan, and I'm a proud Rowdy Rebel (aka Rookie, but don't let that fool you. Our team is AWESOME. Yeah, yeah, I know-- they all are!).
MERICANDO- Hope you're feeling all better pronto.
Tee- Burkas... I love it. You made me giggle.
Mary Alice- Thanks for the walking info and tips. We finally had 1 1/2 days of springy, non-rainy weather, and I've been trying to up my steps by walking around our yard (2 acres) instead of on the gravel road. Now it's thunderstorming, alas.
I also overdid the exercise a bit the first two days-- to help earn miles. I started today with some seated leg, calf, and core stretches. :)
