That next cold blast that's expected next week looks to be wicked! Take care in staying warm. It's supposed to be very cold here too, but I'm further south so at least it should be above 0.

I did make it to the pool this morning and swam 1000 yards. It felt great to be back in the water, and I move quite a bit faster again without the big belly haha. I did kind of miss having my baby "with" me in the pool in a strange way. But feeling like I'm back to being my own person and relaxing in the steam room and sauna was really very nice.

Greetings swim friends... Was going to try and be more consistent, but it's a slow work in progress. HEATHER...Sorry your interview didn't take you as far as you hoped...But here's to hoping you find a better paying job soon. Sorry to hear about the one with diverticulitis. My last colonoscopy showed a pre condition of that....but not treatment plan. I'm due for another one this year sometime, so will be interesting to see if that is still there and if so....I need to be more assertive and ask what, if anything, I can do about it so it doesn't progress. My grandmother had it and while visiting family in New Mexico, she got food poisoning. It complicated the diverticulitis and she died!!!! She opened a can of Chef Boy ...whatever that's called, pasta main dish in a can...It exploded upon opening which should have been a signal, DO NOT EAT...But always not wanting to be wasteful, she ate it anyway. I think she had botchulism (sp?) which can be fatal in itself! This was back in the early 70s....But we were told between the two conditions, it was too much.... So take care of yourself!

Jen....Did you get back in the pool yet? I have gone 3X now in the last two week so slowly getting back into it. My arms were SOOOOO tired, I couldn't believe how out of shape I was. But I persevered taking a few days off in between. Last swim really went well and I seem to have broken through the super tired arm thing. At least I hope so.... I can't wait to get back in! Really missed it!!!

Talk about COLD....We beat Alaska, Iceland, Antartica, and even Mars as coldest spot that one day last week. Windchill as cold as -30. But even that won't begin to compare to next week. Some models have us as cold as -18 actual temp with -50 or MORE in windchill. That's just nuts! We are also in line for more snow....could be as much as 10 inches...or as little as 2. Depends where the storm center goes. Fun times in January!!!! NOT!

Awww, Jen, that's awesome!!! Making the transition to being a parent is tough, but it sounds like you're rocking it!

Lots of client work today, so yay!

Have a great day everyone.

Oof that sucks. Definitely a red flag that it probably wouldn't have been a good fit but still. I'm sorry :(

Today was a good break from being home all the time. I went to a local community center to fill out an application for an afternoon teaching position. It ended up being an on the spot interview which was awesome. And I had brought the baby with me, so the whole thing with a sleeping infant in his wrap carrier like a boss

Came home to feed and change the boy, and then went back out for lunch with my dad. My best friend from childhood also came by to visit in the afternoon :) I've been feeling pretty stir crazed so it was a really good day. Tomorrow morningI might get my first postpartum swim.

OK, so it's a no go with the other interview. The CFO interviewed me and the other finalist and decided neither of us would move forward and he wants them to keep interviewing. But there was no reason given why they are passing on me. So, that's annoying. Of course the recruiter is annoyed as well. And he said it's possible they'll come back to me after another round of interviews.

But who wants to work for a CFO who can't decide on an Assistant Controller who would report to his Controller? Given a perfect candidate, why would you pass? Because you know I could do your job? Who knows, but likely not a great match for me anyway.

Back to the job at hand. I'll just keep doing my best!! I honestly really want this job anyway......just financially it's difficult to keep bills paid at this pay rate much longer........

Haha Good call...it's a recruiter, so who cares how often you call them! They want the commission!

I couldn't stand it any longer, so I reached out to recruiter just to make sure I hadn't missed anything. He told me he hadn't heard anything yet, so it's not a no yet......so that's a good thing.

Yeah, sooo scary! Plus, I'm sure it's frustrating too.

I can't believe it's been that many bosses in such a short time, Heather! You've had about as many bosses as I've moved houses! lol not the same, I know...but I am so very happy to be living in our final little house! And I'll be so glad when you got your job nailed down.

If he's going to be there for a couple of weeks you'll get a really good feel for the situation and that pretty fantastic. Sorry to hear about the other job, but I'm sure you do have a solid feel by this time in your search career. Seems like that should help with some of the anxiety.

OK, well that made me cry...... emoticon This team is literally the most stable thing in my life aside from hubby and kid.

I'll look for that TED talk and watch on the bus on the way home.

We had the "meet and greet" meeting and Bill, the CFO, is still very nice. He's professional and has a very pleasant demeanor. It's going to be fine here.

I haven't heard yet on the other job if I'm the finalist, and the more time that goes by the less likely it is that I'm the finalist. I know, I don't really know yet, but I've been doing this interview thing for a while now......

I pointed out to hubby that today I start working for my 9th boss in 4.5 years. I think if I think about someone who isn't keen on changing jobs, that could give me a little insight as to my anxiety today.

Almost time to go home. Yay!!!

In the search on ted.com you can type anything and something fun will undoubtedly come up!

Good luck today Heather! Take deep breaths and relax ... even if it's forced

Oh - and Heather, how about Robert Waldinger's TED talk "What makes for a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness" I love that one!

I always say that my life may not seem amazing to people outside of it, but I am happy and content, I am married to the love of my life, my best friend is a very true and wonderful friend and my children are incredible and always bring me happiness. I try to work at this as often as I think about it.

To that end, I want to say thank you to all of my fellow teammates because this team has always brought me joy.

New permanent CFO starts today at the place where I'm interim. I should hear today if I made the cut as the finalist at the other place. I'm honestly fighting some anxiety this morning and feel like I could start crying at any moment. Ugh. I need some food I think!

Hi Folks!

Been out of the loop again. I was dealing with diverticulitis but 5 days into the antibiotics I felt I was going downhill. Doctors office didn't get back to my Friday call until late Monday. I was about to head to the ER when they called and said just that...go to ER and ask for a workup for diverticulitis and my GI doc would like to see CAT scan results.

Well, CAT scan showed I did have the diverticulitis but also had an inflamed colon and a small abscess. The abscess, while small, was a major problem and I was immediately hospitalized, NPO even water wasn't permitted. I spent a week in the hospital and just got home Friday night.
I have 2 more weeks of antibiotics, have to see the GI doc to be cleared of the diverticulitis and then I see a surgeon to schedule surgery. So I have a process ahead of me.

Missed reading your chats. Seems a lot has happened.

JAHINTZY: tell me about the baby! Boy, girl? How much did baby weigh? Post a pic too.
You must be exhausted right now.

Heather: did you get the job?

Hubby and I watch very little tv and mostly are on Netflix or Prime for tv viewing. There's so little worth watching on regular tv. What do folks watch on Netflix? I haven't done TED. How do you find what to watch? Give some favorites.

Hope all are doing well!
Lapperoo

Jen - Good luck on getting to the pool! Two hours away sounds lovely.

Heather - How'd the job interview go?

I guess my hubby and I are a lot alike when it comes to watching things...we've only had cable once in the last forty years, for a short time to watch Mr Rogers when my son was little, but we decided it wasn't a good idea after about three months. lol

Now with Amazon Prime we will watch stuff occasionally. We're both pretty die-hard readers so I guess it makes sense.

I do the same thing with thinking I didn't do much. Right now I'm still mostly just feeding myself and the baby. It feels pretty endless, but I know it's not :)

I've officially been cleared to go swimming again if I can manage to go away from the baby long enough... It usually takes me about 2 hours to drive to the y, swim, shower, sauna and return.

It's also time to test my fasting sugars to see if the diabetes has resolved. I tested myself a bit last week and was getting readings between 100-105. Not ideal, but not bad either. That's barely pre-diabetic numbers. I'm going to be more careful with my diet and minding the carbs again in any case

That's funny Carol. When I work for a few hours, do 5 loads of laundry, cook dinner, shovel the driveway and vacuum part of the house I still say, I did hardly anything today! I'm glad I'm not alone in that feeling!!

I love TED talks. Hubby and I are so different in how we watch TV or streaming that we can almost never agree on anything except maybe sports and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network. I could drop TV and just stream interesting things, but hubby is old fashioned and clings on to cable, even though there's almost nothing we watch.

I missed the eclipse too. Way too late for me!

Chugging along with year end work. Hoping it all keeps going smoothly. Have a great day!!

Haha - good call! I was waiting for you to start the thread since I've been on this 4 am wake up jag.

Yesterday I did almost nothing! Well, I worked for 5 hours, but then I went home and just watched TED Talks...I love those! I think I fell asleep around 7 pm and my husband was supposed to wake me to see the eclipse...but he slept through it. Oh well.

We are all set for our big adventure next month and now it will just be a matter of counting down the days! We leave February 25 and get back March 25! Woo hoo!

Hi! So, the interview went well. I think it would be a really good match for me. And if I do get the offer then I have a place where I might have some power to make a choice that makes sense for me. Yay!!

Wow, it's super cold today. It's -4 right now and with the wind apparently it feels -26. I haven't gone out yet. I'll have to go out later and get some groceries and drive the car to make sure it'll start tomorrow morning.

So much CPA work to do!!! W-2s, 1099s, year end accounting, tax returns, yikes!!! Busy day!!
