Yes Lynn, glad you made it through and I totally agree on the swimming for old bodies! I am so close to retiring and getting back to the pool! I am on a stationary bike now and it's not nearly as fun! We are going to the coast of Portugal for lots of warm water swimming at the end of this month, so that's exciting! Plus in April we go spend a couple of weeks in Hawaii with lots of swimming. I can't wait! Semi-retired isn't quite as good as the real thing...though it certain pays well ...

Jen - Yay for going out and totally understand coming back early. Our first outing my sister came to watch our son and I pumped...but he refused the bottle (sigh) so we came home early.

Glad you made it through the depths of the freeze ok!

We had a good night out though we did have to come home a little early for the fussy boy. He settled down for a decent sleep though. The band was fantastic - nothing beats music that rattles your bones in my opinion and New Orleans jazz has the best energy :)

It's supposed to be pretty mild here this week so I'm hopeful we'll get to venture out during the days.

Those of us who went through that cold need T Shirts that say: "I SURVIVED THE POLAR VORTEX OF 2019!" What a week! We are now well above freezing, in the 40s, possible 50s tomorrow but with rain. All will help with the big snow melt. We have about 15 inches of the white stuff on the ground from accumulating winter storms. We lost a lot, but still have a ways to go.

I've been swimming on a regular basis and am so thrilled! I can't WAIT until tomorrow to go. It is making a difference in this aging body as I can tell, bing in my early to mid 60s, the energy level dropped, disruptive sleep, aching joints....are all going away! Yeah! Still recovering from a stress fracture so not running and will try in a couple of weeks in a walk run walk and see how I feel. That will be at six weeks. Takes an average of six to eight weeks.

Carol....Your daughter is beautiful! Sounds like she is doing great! Jen...Good to hear you got back in the water again as well and doing well with the baby. hope you had or will have a great date! Heather....Hoping your show goes really well! Best wishes.....

Jen - Email me your address so I can send a baby gift!!! Where are my manners? I'm at lompocfox@hotmail.com if you don't still have it.

Either tell me what you want (not necessarily need) or do you want artsy or practical?

We had the most amazing jog stroller that had a mesh cover with a plastic viewing "window". My junior Houdini would get out of her straps and press her face against the window and cackle! She loved bouncing around (free) in it. (A true testament of what was to come!). My son would stand on the cross bar in the front, holding on with one hand and we'd run down dirt paths with the two of them laughing their heads off. That was soooo fun!!! Now I don't see anything like that now...probably not safe...lol lol

Yeah Laurie, I love your commute...but when I had my business out of my house I tended to work way the heck too many hours! I think buying the exact same car but newer is a great idea! I'm hoping my next car is a self driving one...or a self driving community car!

Jen, YAY for going on a date with hubby! Getting a job that's part time and near your house is a great solution.

Heather - Good luck on the upcoming show! Do you do candles that are stand alone (outside of glass)? I was wondering because I saw a couple of really cute ideas that people around here did...though what goes over in one place often doesn't go over in others. Like when I make jewelry for my brother-in-law's store in Colorado I have to make big showy pieces because they are typically rich Texan's. Anyway, I saw some that were "dressed up" with hearts and chains that were cute enough that I thought I would make some. My daughter and I like using the soy and bees wax with essential oils and put them into things like shells...because we are Californians after all...

So we're supposed to get dumping rain and huge winds...what the heck?!

A lot of things have closed or delayed for the cold here too, the heater in the house was working hard yesterday to keep up. I haven't left the house since Monday but I think we'll need to go out today for support group - I need to check the boy's weight. But like Heather said, it's a short cold snap and it'll be warmer tomorrow.

Tomorrow night will be our first night out since the baby! My dad and step mom are coming to watch RJ while we go see the rebirth brass band play. They're going to be at the hall where we got married, just 10 miles from home - it was too perfect to pass up on tickets :)

And Monday I'm going to go chat with the operations director at a cool little print shop around the corner from home. I'm hoping maybe I could do part time, and that it's a better group of people to spend my time with. We shall see!

It was -4 when I left the house at 6 am!! Wow, it's so cold!!!! But tomorrow the high is predicted to be 35 and Sunday 41, so the cold snap only lasted about 3 days. That's fine with me. We've had times where this goes on like this for weeks.

Even though I worked from home two days this week, I'm so unbelievably happy it's Friday. I never have what others call relaxing weekends, but this one should be the best one in a while. And next weekend I have a craft fair to sell Valentine's candles!!! Woo hoo!!! I'm pretty excited.

Have a great day everyone. I gotta get some breakfast now!

Yep...staying in as much as possible. Schools here were closed yesterday and today. Some courts too, which NEVER happens. Temps hovering around 0, wind chills down to about -30. I did go out a couple times, just short trips. You just have to be sensible and dress right and make sure your car is running right and has a full tank of gas.

Commuting.... get out of bed, go to the room next door. Hah!! emoticon But, I do plenty of other driving, so there's that.

Speaking of driving, I just bought a new car. Debated leasing again, but I got a better deal with a purchase. I pick it up Saturday. It's the same make and model as the old car, just 3 years newer. I really liked the old one, so why not?

Yeah, I've done commutes and California traffic can be bad...but it's got nothing on NY traffic...well, LA is probably as bad. I have friends that are execs in companies like Levy's and they just go "over the hill" ...but it can take 45 minutes to 2 hours and there isn't any public transit or trains that go the places you'd need them to.

I've had a company with around a 25 minute commute, with my husband, for years and years. My last two jobs I walked to work which was awesome and with this one I'm back to about a 28 minute commute that, if I leave Monterey at the wrong time can end up being up to an hour.

I am not complaining because soon I'll have no commute!!! We're still negotiating on my exit, but we've come to a current agreement that I will take a leave and come back at the end of March...which means my insurance stays active. At that point I'll meet with the new CFO and see what he thinks. I have an agreement with the owners that I will answer to them and not the new CFO. The big money partner told me I was completely protected and my husband said, "Darn!".

It's so sad that a major consideration in early retirement is the cost of insurance. My husband has medicare and I think I'm going to look for an expert to consult with. I can get COBRA from my job for about $450/month which is pretty darn good and it's because we belong to an agricultural trust that is self-insured. If we can get a year and a half under our belt then Covered California insurance will be cheaper, right now it's $700/month for catastrophic care.

Okay, I'm rambling - back to work. Have a great day you guys.

AND Lynn - stay inside! ...and probably Laurie too!

It's definitely a long commute, but there really are no employers with jobs like I need within about an hour of my home. So.......I do what I have to do. When we moved out here, I was working about 50 miles from the house and it took about an hour to get there. But I got to work 7-3 so I missed all the traffic. It's one of the reasons I stayed in that difficult job as long as I did. The perks of work from home, flexible hours and a nice salary made up for the drive.

Stay warm mama!! It's cold and snowy here today!

Holy crap that's a long commute... There's a lot of people who do similar length commutes where I live too (Philly traffic is no joke) but I'm pretty picky in not wanting to drive far for work.

We might get some snow here tonight, but probably not much - only forcasted for 1-3 inches. In any case, I'm not going anywhere today. I didn't sleep well last night (the baby did better than I did). I think I need to be more careful about my coffee cut off - I'm back on regular coffee again and I forget since I got used to decaf lol

Tomorrow afternoon there's a mama support group so I may venture out for that if the snow has stopped. We took a mall walk yesterday so I got a break from the house.

:) It was two hours on the bus, but it takes me 40 minutes just to drive to the bus! It's only about 60 miles door to door, but because it's NYC traffic, that adds a lot of time. The only way this works is that I don't have to drive in traffic. As I mention to everyone that interviews me, I chose to live out where I do, so I am willing to take on the commute. Anything less than an hour driving is a miracle commute for me!

But today I'm home due to the snow! We should get about 8 inches over the course of the day. I'm super glad I decided to work from here today.

Casie looks amazing!!! I hope she's enjoying her time with Sundance!!

Two hour commute?! Jeez...and I complain about my 25 minutes!

Lynn - Stay safe, it looks like a wicked, wicked storm headed your way...and it was already freezing cold there! Man, they're talking -60...what does that even mean?

You guys make me feel like I'm just mean spirited this morning lol! My windshield had ice two days last week and by the second day I'm wondering - what the heck?! Then it went away. It's just been so cold here, but wimpy cold coastal California ...did I say wimpy? Brrr 46 low and only 62 high, I know, stop whining, right. Your cold just defies my understanding.

My daughter has been living in Park City, UT working for the Sundance Film Festival and I had to send her better boots and snow shoes haha.

Wow! Long commute today. Two hours on the bus! No idea why, often there's no rhyme or reason to it. At least I wasn't driving!!

Another day, another dollar. Work is good. Not overly stressful, so that's nice!

I'll check in later!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day!!
