They're supposed to gain 5-7 ounces per week. Poor boy fell off the growth curve and only gained 7 ounces in 2 weeks after his 2 month checkup. So we're playing a bit of catch-up.

I love that picture, she was such a round little thing!

It's been too long for me to remember how fast babies are supposed to gain weight, but I do remember this......Sydney was 4 lbs. 11 oz at birth, was 4 lbs 7 oz a week later; by the time I went back to work at 13 weeks after birth she weighed about 10 pounds, and by her first birthday, I kid you not, she weighed almost 30 pounds. We could hardly hold her. People would ask to hold the baby and I'd warn them how heavy she was!!

The doc had us take her off formula at 12 months so she wouldn't get so many calories. She then stayed at 30 pounds until she was 3. So, she was super healthy then, she's at a healthy BMI now, and we've never had any real health issues at all.

The picture is her at 11 months. I miss the baby days.......she was a pumpkin!!!!

Heather - I would LOVE for you to be in a position of comparing two offers. Also, needy husbands (ESPECIALLY when you’re already stretched thin) are tough. *hugs* I hope you got your lunch walk.

Carol - man you take such fun trips!

Michelle - *waves* welcome! Bit of advice as a former swimmer who took a looong break - do NOT compare your current times to your old times. Rather focus on week-to-week improvements. :D It looks like you’re off to an awesome start!

Jen - HECK YES BABY WEIGHT GAIN!!! :D :D :D So happy for you guys!

Hi all!

We’ve been getting into the swing of things and a bit of a schedule with teh baby. Mike seems to be adjusting ok to being back to work as well. Definitely ready for the weekend, though.

Amelia had her 1 month visit today. She’s a tiny chub and has gained a little over 1/3 of her birth weight.

I’m trying to get things done around the house today. I ordered new curtains for her room (I felt the others clashed with the fabric on the glider lol) and accidentally only ordered enough for 1 window. So now she just has mismatching curtains.

I’m pumped b/c my pre-pregnancy jeans fit me now. :D My maternity jeans don’t fit *nearly* as well w/o the baby bump, so I’m happy to not have my pants falling down constantly.

Aaaand the baby is waking up. xoxo

Michelle, good for you!! I think your progress is amazing. Just stick with it, as everyone has said, it gets easier as you get stronger! I've recently gone back to swimming after a few years of not being able to, and I found that if I just keep going, I get a little stronger every time.

Sydney still has bumps on her legs, no diagnosis yet. I got her better shoes for gym and hopefully that helps. She has brand new, very fancy cleats for lacrosse, so maybe the new supportive shoes will help.

The interview was amazing. I will really have a decision to make if they make the offer and the current temp job counter-offers. The opportunity is tailor made for me, which is kinda fun.

I bit the bullet and asked the temp agency for a raise. It's ridiculous that they are making a 40% margin on me. The recruiter I was talking to yesterday, the one who has gotten me this interview I'm a finalist on, couldn't believe how little I'm being paid. He told me to ask for a raise! So I did. What's the worst that can happen? They'll say no.....and then what? I keep working because I need the pay, and they need me as the financial statement audit is about to start.

I found out that it's very likely the employer has no idea what the temp agency is paying me hourly. And for sure the new CFO doesn't know. I think I'll let him know that as soon as I can, but definitely by tomorrow.

So, chugging along with work and family stuff. I keep getting people interested in hiring me to be their accountant or bookkeeper, but it doesn't pay enough to quit the full time gig, and the stress of working non-stop is a bit much. What a crazy 5 years it's been.....

I need a walk at lunch!!!

I had a very productive night last night, swim-wise.

I swam competitively in middle school, so I have all this crazy muscle memory that tells me I can do things that my overweight middle aged body doesn't always successfully accomplish.

Some highlights from my night:

1. Had my husband time me to get a baseline. My 25 time was: 26.5, and the 50 was: 59.3 (which I was actually pretty happy with as starting times)

2. I was complimented on my form ( I was swimming crawl) and told that I had good form.

3. Last time we went swimming my 7 year old asked me to show her how to do a somersault under water, and I got extreme vertigo dizziness. (I lost all concept of up/down) So last night I spent some time in the deep end acclimating my head to various positions / directions until I could successfully do somersaults in both directions, and then worked on flip turns.

4. I gave into my brain telling me that my body knew how to do butterfly. (I was to embarrassed to try all the other times in the pool, feeling like I'd look like a fat floppy fish). The swimmer who complimented my crawl was finishing his workout (he had taught stroke cliinics when he was younger), so I asked him to critique my butterfly. I didn't think I could do a whole length, but he said that he would if I would (neither of us had swum fly in decades). So I actually swam 25yards of butterfly, and my arms and breathing was great, but my second kick is pretty weak.

So all in all, a really good night. I got 30 minutes of straight lap swimming and 60 minutes of general swimming.. I am exhausted and hungry today, but feeling pretty happy.

Hi Michelle! Welcome! Sounds like you have some good regular opportunities to swim :) I will mostly echo what Carol said. After a bit you'll be amazed at the increase in stamina.

I'm one of the ones with a baby, he's about 3.5 months old now so still pretty new. I'm only getting sporadic swims right now, but we'll get there.

Baby boy had a weight check today with good news! He gained almost a lb in 2 weeks.

Heather, I hope the final interview went well? I understand not having the bandwidth for needy.

Hi Michelle! Welcome to the team! It may take a bit to get to know us all here, but it's worth it. We're a very supportive bunch.

I think the most important advice that I can give to you is stick with it because the look back is amazing. Try to keeping swimming, when you stop, count to ten (but not too slowly) and start again. At first it's really, really hard, but if you keep at it I promise it gets easier. You'll hit a wall and think you're dying, but if you can work through it, eventually you won't need to take a break. Six months from now you'll be amazed at your body and stamina.

Oh Heather - Casie danced her senior year and she was so very pleased that she did. It was the best year ever. I'm so happy for you that Sydney has decided to do it! How are her bumps?

Good Morning :)

I'm new to the group and new to fitness swimming. Mostly new...it's been 30 years since I was on the Y swim team in middle school. Which means, I have some amazing muscle memory, even if my middle aged body has a hard time keeping up.

I'm been at Spark since 2006, and in that time I've managed to lose 90 pounds twice. After I regained it the first time I was diagnosed with PCOS, lost the weight the second time and had a surprise pregnancy at age 36. She's 7 now, and so I decided last year that it was time to try for round #3.

I lost 50 pounds last year doing Keto / low carb. But I didn't have the time, energy or the ability to think about exercise. I gained 10 pounds back over the holidays. We recently joined the Y, and I found that though I find every minute of exercising in the gym excruciating, I love to swim. (I burn double the calories for a quarter of the pain, so it was the obvious choice!)

I've been trying to go twice a week on my lunch hour (where I can get 30 minutes of swimming in), and twice a week we go as a family (I get 45-60 minutes). I swim mostly freestyle and breaststroke. (I use breaststroke as a break when I am feeling over-exerted or oxygen deprived).

Any suggestions or advice to someone just (re)starting as a swimmer?

~Michelle~

Yay for the grandma visit and yay for her going home! My mom was supposed to come for a week with my first but she got the flu and couldn't!

Heather - That sucks! You have really had pretty rotten luck when it comes to jobs! I wish you could have mine because these guys are awesome! My replacement started on Monday and it will be interesting to meet with him when I return. It's soooo nice that it doesn't matter if I like him or not!

We are in Marrakech today and tomorrow we head for Casablanca. I didn't really like the shopping in the old town because there were motorcycles coming through and donkeys and such. We burned out pretty quickly. I did buy some beautiful wood pieces and a new purse.

Three more nights in Africa and then back to Spain!

Hey all. I know we're not as chatty now what with people on vacation for a month, and other people with babies!!! But, I have to throw this out somewhere, and here is my safe space.

I'm not so sure this is going to work out with the new boss. He seems, somehow, less than I had hoped for. Like, needy and not as strong as I had hoped. The interim CFO, the one that hired me as interim, left here last Friday and so these are the first few days without him here. I'm not loving it as much. I think also I'm feeling a bit unsettled because there is so much to know here, and I don't feel like I know enough. Ugh.

I have a final interview today with a great company, so maybe that is coloring some of my thinking.

And my hubby is being very needy. I don't have bandwidth for needy right now......

My mom has been in town for the last week and heads home later today. It'll be nice to have some just me-and-Mike (+ baby) time again.

Good Morning! It's a beautiful sunny day here in NYC. It's a bit chilly, but not really cold, and we can feel spring in the air.

So I got to the Y on Saturday and it was a madhouse. I couldn't deal with how difficult it was to get to the pool, so I just got on the treadmill. It wasn't great, but I got a 30 minute workout. I felt good about at least getting that done.

Our big personal news is it seems Sydney is going back to dance for next year! Her senior year is going to be a bit easier academically, and she'll be driving herself around, so she's going back for two competition dances. I'm pretty excited I must say! It'll be fun to be able to see her one more season. It's a bonus! And since I was so sad last season, I kinda got that out of me, and this will just be fun extra dance for us! Woo hoo!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE week!!
